Dr. Brandon Martin, about to complete his first year as the Cal State Northridge athletic director, has been elected to a two-year term on the Los Angeles Sports Council’s board of directors.
The Council, a non-profit group that assists with attracting sporting events and promoting Southern California teams to help with economic and community growth, included Martin among nine new members to the 84-person board.

Current board members include LA84 Foundation president and International Olympic Committee member Anita L. DeFrantz (serving as secretary) and past chair and president of the U.S. Soccer Federation Alan Rothenberg. Among the board of directors are Lakers executive VP Jeanie Buss, broadcaster and WNBA executive Anne Meyers Drysdale, former Olympic swimmers Janet Evans-Wilson and John Naber, USC athletic director Pat Haden, UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero, founding chair of Special Olympics Southern California and former Olympic decathlon star Rafer Johnson, and Auto Club Speedway president Gillian Zucker.
The Council recently installed Karen Brodkin, the Fox Sports Media Group’s executive VP or business and legal affairs, as its first female chairperson since the group began in 1988.
