One of the things Orel Hershiser gave rookie Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis last year was a set of cufflinks.
It was in the shape of a chess-board rook piece.
“I won’t be flashing those on the air this year,” Davis said, who did put them up on his Twitter account last season.
It’s his second year doing the SportsNet LA TV play-by-play, but his first without Vin Scully at least in the neighborhood, having completed his final season in 2016 after 67 years.
For his 29th birthday last December, Davis’ parents delivered a framed photograph of him with Scully together at the end of last season in the Dodger Stadium main broadcast booth.
On the photo, Scully inscribed: “To Joe: My prayers for you to have a great career.” (seen above)
How Davis will approach the 2017 season — his first opportunity to call a game from the Dodger Stadium TV booth will be Monday’s opener — and more at this link.
