Following up a story we did Sunday, Avengers receiver/linebacker Greg Hopkins cleared the first hurdle in becoming a Pennsylvania State House of Representatives member for the 50th district.

In Tuesday's Republican primary, Hopkins received 57 percent of the 2,416 votes to gain his party's nomination over Richard Yeager, who is the chairman of the local GOP. In November, Hopkins will face incumbent Bill DeWeese (D), who won his party's primary with 58 percent of almost 9,000 votes.
For more info on Hopkins' campaign, check out his website. Here's another link to the Avengers' report on the election, with another link below that to the local media coverage.
