Oh, mother

Mom wanted to see a baseball game on Mother's Day. The Angels were in town. And from what I remember they usually give away good stuff to the moms on that day ...

But then, you've probably already heard about that lawsuit filed by the psychologist who needs to see a psychologist to find out why he was so miffed about not getting a pink tote bag giveaway at last year's Angels' Mother's Day game.
Mom read the yarn, had a good laugh, then still wanted to go.
I had to figure out what my plan of attack would be. Since that lawsuit, the Angels said they'd relax the restrictions and offer this latest tote bag freebie to everyone, but first ask the gentleman if he really wanted the thing. I was ready to turn it down, to make sure some other mom didn't get shut out.
So we enter the gates before the 12:30 game. No bags. Just a nice lady with a stack of cards. "Do you want a bag?" she asks. "No, I'm good," I reply. "Oh, no, get a bag," my Mom insists, even though she already has a card in hand. So I stupidly take one.
Then I read what's on the card:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, the Mother's Day Ladies Tote Bags have not yet arrived.
"This voucher may be redeemed for one (1) Ladies Tote Bag during home games on (6/9-6/18) (6/26-7/2) (7/14-7/19) at Angel Stadium, guest relations window, section 124.
"Voucher may also be redeemed by mail (see reverse side). Please allow 60-90 days for delivery.
"All voucher holders must be at least 18 years old. Vouchers may not be duplicated. The Angels are not liable for lost or stolen vouchers."

Bummer.

My guess is that, since this lawsuit has come out and hashed about, the Angels realized they didn't have enough tote bags to give away to moms plus anyone who'd be asking for one, so they decided they'd have to order more and give these cards to everyone at the game so no one was shorted.

But that's the dangers of guessing. Go to the source, team info expert Tim Mead, and he said:
"The truth of the matter is that we ran into a production problem overseas that resulted in the delay of arrival. We were holding out hope that they arrived Saturday but that just wasn't the case. It's pure coincidence that the lawsuit was filed earlier. The only change because of (the lawsuit) was the change in policy for first 25,000 fans as opposed to first 25,000 women. My understanding re: overseas was that some inclimate weather affected the production in some manner. We're expecting product any day now."

What an unnecessary PR mess the team has to deal with on this one. And they may even get more from this lawsuiter after having the audacity to put on the card that the recipient has to be 18 or older.

I even felt a little embarassed for the team's esteemed public address announcer David Courtney , who told the crowd after the game ended, whether he meant it this way or not: "Happy Mother's Day to everyone."

My goal is to find out who this guy is that filed the suit (his name has been mentioned in plenty of stories, but giving him more pub is worthless). Then I'll put his name and address on this card I now have, and make sure he gets send the bag that I never wanted in the first place.
Then he can put the bag over his own head when he goes out in public.

Now, if you read the first comment below, that's from my mom. Steven is my nephew who came to the game with us. Rhonda is my wife, who needs another tote bag like she needs another pair of shoes.

Hello Tom,

My comment is in regards to the L.A. psychologist Michael Cohn, who ought to see a psychologist himself! Should he ever become a mother, he should be entitled to receive the tote bag.
Some people use any situation to get sue crazy! I think it was a nice gesture to celebrate "Mother's Day". I think the Park should honor "Father's Day" too, perhaps with a manyly gift to each Dad attending.
My idea was to be sure that Steven got a bag for his mom, and that you picked up one for Rhonda. I thought that card was to be used to go to another location in the stadium to pick up our gift.
