Who said it?

A regular feature on MLB.com's site called "Wild Pitches," which can be found on the magazine link in the news pulldown from the main menu, Ben Platt does off-beat Q-and-A's with big-name major leaguers about things unreleated to their craft.
Read this quote and try to guess who said it:

When I have time to watch TV, I watch...
The History Channel, what else? I also grew up hardcore Catholic, so I do like the Eternal Word television network. I think they have a lot of really cool spiritual stories. I've really enjoyed connecting with my faith the last 10 years or so, it's been fun for me. I visited Rome a few years ago and met Pope John Paul II, which was great. So I enjoy spiritual stuff. I also want to add that Pope Benedict has really emphasized the importance of sports and entertainment and politicians who are faith based, who can make an influence on people. Be proud of your faith. I know I am and I'm hoping to meet the new Pope. I think it will be an amazing experience.

The answer is ....

Mike Piazza, who last year married former Playboy Playmate Alicia Rickter. According the account of the 2005 nuptuals in People magazine , "Rickter wore a white satin Vera Wang gown and was joined by five bridesmaids, including maid of honor Angelica Bridges, a Baywatch costar, and Playboy Playmates Brande Roderick and Lisa Dergan."
Sounds heavenly.

Then, there was the June, 2003 interview that "Open Mike" did with Playboy magazine.
As ESPN.com's Page 2 recalled in its 2003 wrapup of year in sports-related sex stuff, Piazza, a year removed from that awkward moment when he had to hold a press conference to announce he wasn't gay, said he "has a a certain fondness for Playboy playmates (and) that he's slept with "More than five, fewer than 100" women."

Maybe the most interesting part of the interview, ESPN.com points out, is when Piazza says he believes premarital sex is a sin, and that as a result he regularly confesses to priests, who vary in their prescribed penance. This reveleation leads to a follow-up exchange:

PLAYBOY: Have you ever had sex and said, "That was worth 10 Our Fathers"?

PIAZZA: Of course. There's always part of a man that's ready to launch into animal instinct.
