So Cal's All-Time Roster: No. 27

No. 27:
Our pick:
==Vladimir Guerrero, Angels (2003- )

300px-Vlad1.jpgThe stat came up during the Angels' Game 3 (and final) playoff telecast against Boston: Which two players in LMB history have had 10 sraight seasons with a .300 average and 25 home runs? The first was Lou Gehrig (1927-'37, 11 seasons). The other is Guerrero, who has done it every season he's been in Anaheim, plus the six seasons before that.
The Dodgers thought they had a chance to sign the free agent back in the winter of '02, when Frank McCourt bought the franchise, but it was Arte Moreno who got the deal done.
Guerrero's No. 27 is even featured in a Master Card commercial about the joys of baseball. The joy for Angels fans is if they team ever gets someone with some muscle to hit behind him in the lineup.

Runner-up:
==Scott Niedermayer, Ducks ('05-'07)
Skated away with the Conn Smythe Trophy after Anaheim won the Stanley Cup last year and hasn't been seen since.

Other No. 27s:
==Bob Davenport, UCLA football ('53-'55)
==Willie Crawford, Dodgers ('69-'77) Wore No. 43 in '64 and '67 and No. 47 in '68
==Kevin Brown, Dodgers ('99-'03)
==Theotis Brown, UCLA football ('75-'78)
==Mike Scott, Pepperdine baseball ('74-'76)

Sports Illustrated's pick for the all-time No. 27: Juan Marichal, over Carlton Fisk, Eddie George and Guerrero.
