So Cal's All-Time Roster: No. 43
No. 43:
Our pick:
==Troy Palamalu, USC football ('99-'02)
The two-time All-American was probably known more, and easier to identify, from his long hair out of the back of his helmet that often obscured his number. A three-year starter who flew to the ball like few others in the game had 278 tackles (29 for losses), six interceptions (three returned for TDs), 13 deflections, two fumble recoveries and four blocked punts. He played in, but didn't quite make it through, the '03 Orange Bowl win over Iowa because of an injury. He was a first-round draft pick by Pittsburgh and already played in Super Bowl XL.
Runner up:
==Raul Mondesi, Dodgers ('93-'99)
'94 NL Rookie of the Year, '95 All-Star, '95 and '97 Golden Glove. And then what happened?
Other No. 43s:
==Mychal Thompson, Lakers ('86-'91)
==Rick Sutcliffe, Dodgers ('78-'81)
==Dave Ball, UCLA football ('99-'03)
==Matt Darby, UCLA football ('87-'91)
==Greg Lee, UCLA basketball ('71-'74)
Sports Illustrated's choice as the all-time No. 43: Richard Petty over Dennis Eckersley.
