So Cal's All-Time Roster: No. 51
No. 51:
Our pick:
==Randy Cross, UCLA football (1972-75)
The former Crespi High standout played center and guard in his three season, starting 28 of his 34 career games. He was named the team's outstanding lineman in '75 and was on the '76 Rose Bowl team that knocked out No. 1 Ohio State. He also played rugby at UCLA.
The San Francisco 49ers made him a second-round pick in 1976, and as an NFL player (sticking with No. 51) from '76 to '88, he was linked to Joe Montana's success, playing in the '82, '85 and '89 Super Bowls. CBS uses him these days as a game analsyt, so he's not tough to find. Once and awhile, his own personal website is working.
Other No. 51s:
==Randy Johnson, USC baseball ('83-'85)
==Dave Kingman, USC baseball ('69-'70)
==Chip Banks, USC football ('78-'81)
==Terry Forster, Dodgers ('78-'82)
==Larry Sherry, Dodgers ('58-'63)
==Jonathan Broxton, Dodgers ('05- )
Sports Illustrated's choice for the all-time No. 51: Dick Butkus, over Ichiro Suzuki, Randy Johnson and Trevor Hoffman.
