So Cal's All-Time Roster: No. 77

Anthony Munoz2.jpg

No. 77:
Our pick:
==Anthony Munoz, USC football (1976-'79)

Anthony Munoz1.jpgHow could Charles White not win the Heisman in '79 running behind the Great Wall of Munoz? Even for only one game.
He became famous in the NFL wearing No. 78 for the Cincinnati Bengals, for which he got into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was the third overall choice in the '80 draft, despite the fact knee problems limited the 6-foot-6, 280-pounder to a combined eight games in his junior and senior seasons. On a line during his career that already included All-Americans Marvin Powell, Pat Howell , Keith Van Horne, Roy Foster, Don Mosebar and Brad Budde, Munoz never received the national acclaim with honors or awards because of his limited playing time during his time at USC. Munoz is involved these days in his own foundation in Cincinnati.

First runner up:
==Ron Yary, USC football ('65-'67)
60055_1.jpgIt'd be easier to make a case for USC's only Outland Trophy winner out of Bellflower High, inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The No. 1 overall draft choice in '68 by the Minnesota Vikings, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in '01 ... What else more could he have done?
In a recent SI.com project naming the top college football players by number, Yary would have won at No. 77 if it were not for Illinois' Red Grange, who many consider the best ever to play the sport.
Should we reconsider this number?

Second runner ups:
==Paul Coffey, Kings ('91-'93)
==Lyle Alzado, Raiders ('82-'85)

Other No. 77s:
==Reggie Willits, Angels ('07- )
==Jacob Rogers, USC football ('00-'03)
==Pat Harlow, USC football ('87-'90)
==Ken Ruettgers, USC football ('82-'90)
==Jim McCullough, UCLA football ('83-'85)

Sports Illustrated's choice for the all-time No. 77: Red Grange, over Ray Borque.

Did we miss anyone?
