Congrats, Los Angeles Ducks

The Ducks are in Anaheim, right? In the county of oranges, correct? And L.A. needs not to take credit, nor blame, for anything that particular NHL team accomplishes, you'd think?
Just checkin.
The voters of the L.A. Sports Awards named the Mighty Ducks' victory in the last summer's Stanley Cup finals the top Los Angeles sports moment of 2007, announced Sunday night at the Los Angeles Sports Council's annual shindig in Beverly Hills, and televised on FSN Prime Ticket.
David Beckham, who planted a football flag in L.A. and sometimes even played, was named the Male Athlete of the Year.
Allyson Felix, the 22-year-old former L.A. Baptist High sprinter who won three gold medals at last September's World Track and Field Championships in Japan, was named Female Athlete of the Year.
And to cap things off, Ducks general manager Brian Burke was picked Sports Executive of the Year.
Maybe the Kings stand a better chance at the Orange County Sports Council Awards dinner.

Here's how the top 10 list played out by voters who went to the L.A. Sports Council site and voted:

1. Ducks win Stanley Cup (June 6): Anaheim defeats Ottawa in five games to win its first Stanley Cup. Not at the Pond (the Honda Center).

3. UCLA returns to Final Four (March 24): The UCLA men's basketball team swept through the West Regional, defeating No. 1 seed Kansas to reach its second straight Final Four.

4. Kobe scores 50 in four straight games (March 23): In leading the Lakers to a win over New Orleans, Kobe Bryant scores 50 points, his fourth consecutive game of 50-plus.

5. Dodgers hire Joe Torre (November 1): The Dodgers signed Joe Torre, one of the winningest managers in baseball history, to a three-year deal to skipper the ballclub.

6. USC wins Pac-10 again (December 1): USC wins its final four regular-season football games to earn an unprecedented sixth consecutive Pacific-10 championship (actually, a share of it) as well as a sixth straight BCS bowl berth.

7. UCLA is first to 100 (May 13): UCLA’s women's water polo team beats Stanford to capture its third straight NCAA title, making UCLA the first university to win 100 team championships.

8. Venus Williams wins Wimbledon (July 7): Venus Williams wins the Ladies' Championship for a fourth time, defeating France's Marion Bartoli in the final at the All England Club. The L.A. area native's four Wimbledon singles titles are tops among all active players.

9. Garrett Anderson's 10 RBI game (August 21): Garret Anderson (Kennedy High of Granada Hills) collectes a club record 10 RBI's in a game against the Yankees, capping his performance with his eighth career grand slam, another club record.

10. Allyson Felix shines at World Championships (Sept. 2): San Fernando Valley native Allyson Felix stars at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Osaka, Japan, winning three gold medals, in the 200 meters plus the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.

Eighteen other awards also were presented to each of the major local teams and universities – plus golf, horse racing, motor sports and tennis. A complete list of winners is at the council's site.
