The Tilghman aftermath, II
More emails from this afternoon:
Mr. Hoffarth,
First let me say that I am sorry that I left such a hostile message on your voice mail. I had just read your article and found it to be very offensive and unsympathetic. I am no fan of Rev. Al but a broken clock can be right now and then. When many African Americans hear the word lynching, they picture a person who was dragged out of their home by hooded cowards and is hanging from a tree. You should see that too...
People in the media are role models that affect many in our culture. What they say and do does matter and should have consequences. Miss Tilghman's suspension is at least fare. When we park in the wrong place we get a ticket, if a player is late for practice he or she gets fined, the only way people see and know that there is no place for stupid racism in the media is for there to be a financial price to pay. The one color every American sees the same is green.

What if Rev. Sharpton would have instead said (On Air) that Ms Tilghman was a such a nice looking woman that maybe a group of young men should take her out in a back ally and rape her and then apologized profusely for his remarks. Would you or any of the women group accept his apology. Regardless of Mr Woods accomplishments he is seen by a lot of us in the Black community as the " HAPPY NEGRO " i.e. Larry Elder, Clarence Thomas and Ward Connolly After all he is married to a " White Women " and I would bet his so representatives are all White. Maybe it's not such a bad idea that idiots like you should hide under the covers and clutch your pillow. Praise God we need more leaders like Rev Al.

Tom,
After reading your column regarding the unfortunate statement of Ms. Tilghman about how to beat Tiger Woods, I still wonder why ANYONE would EVER care at all about ANYTHING Al (charlatan) Sharpton says.
Tiger is probably the best ever and nearly all Americans love him, but Sharpton will jump on any opportunity to prove his 'forever a racist' mindset.

How would like if Stephen A. Smith or Ahmad Rashad referred to the Princeton girls basketball team as some "stringy haired tramps"? What would your reaction be? You white guys in the media would be calling for his head immediately. And using rap as an excuse for Don Imus is flat out weak. You think Don Imus said what he said because he listens to rap? Get the hell outta here. He's ignorant and you guys are quick to stick up for your own and downgrade what they've done, but if the shoe was on the other foot, you'd be crying bloody murder. Were (sic) seeing it now with Roger Clemens, you got people in the media looking for every excuse to find this dude innocent.
If Greg Anderson came out and said anything about Bonds, you guys would've automatically believed it and ran with it. I don't see the same digust and hate towards Clemens that you have for Bonds and guess what? Clemens isn't exactly the good guy that you guys have made him out to be. Its been whispers about him way before the Mitchell Report but I didn't see you write anything about him. I remember your cold fish
statement on Bonds indicted...Liar...liar...liar.....where's that same intensity for Clemens?
How about Lance Armstrong, Mr. All America who everybody knows is dirty but he's walking away scott free. The Europeans know the real deal and know he's a cheat but the American media treats him with kid gloves because he's a "sweet likable white guy" who is your idea of a american hero.
To an African American, Mr. Hoffarth, the word "lynch" is to us what the "holocaust" is to Jews. Let an African American use a joke about the holocaust and see how fast he will be ran out the business. Not only
fired, but never work anywhere and rightly so. The shoe is not on the other foot so , but a word like "lynching" is offensive blacks.
Just because Tiger Woods was too cowardly to stand up for himself doesn't mean it it should just go away. She disrespected his African lineage. His dad is black, grandfather, great grandfather who lived during the era of "lynching". Yeah she might not have meant it that way, but she should pay the price. If you think its not that bad, how come you have never used that statement youself? I'm sure you do with your
little buddies in the media behind closed doors, but to say it on air is stupid and she should be fired.
As for Al Sharpton, if it wasn't for him, people like her and Imus would be getting away with these kind of statements all the time and people like you would be covering for her because you don't think it was "that
bad" or she didn't "mean any harm". You wouldn't let a black annoucer get a pass for talking about Jews so why should we sit back and let her get away that?
Holocaust and lynching represent people who were victims of senseless, violent murder "solely" due to their race or ethnicity. Those words are never ever to me be made light of by anyone period. You took the article
and focused your blame to Al Sharpton instead of placing the blame where it belongs which is with Kelly Tilghman.

I heard the so-called attack on Tiger and like Tiger, I heard no ill intent.
This I have come to realize - those who harbor hatred within project those feelings to others and interpert innocent remarks as something never even imagined by the speaker...The Rev. Al shills are a sad lot.
