Coming Friday: Warren Sapp, that Dancin' Fool
When he's not getting up at 4:30 a.m. to appear on the NFL Network's "NFL GameDay Morning" Sunday pregame show in Culver City, or jetting off on a red-eye to appear on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" in New Jersey, Warren Sapp has some downtime learning new timing on a dance step for ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."
Today and Friday, he's at an L.A. studio trying to master the Viennese Waltz.
"She (partner Kym Johnson) says it's all about being slow and graceful," Sapp said Thursday morning. "I'm going to find out in about an hour."
So far, it's been better than a usual sack dance for the former NFL defensive lineman, recently removed from that Oakland Raiders mess up north.
The quarterback killa has been killing it on the dance floor (according to those who know better about such things). We're just trying to figure out when he has time to fill his 300-pound frame inbetween TV stops.
"Eating and sleeping have been the easy parts," he said, after landing at LAX on a flight from Philadelphia last night, where he was taping "Inside the NFL" in New Jersey.
"No doubt, I knew how popular (the dance show) was before I got into it. I can't lie to you on that. One of the first things I got to do for the NFL Network was interview Jason Taylor (the former Miami Dolphins defensive end who finished second during last year's Season 6 of DWTS). We were in similiar mindsets about our playing situation. He's been texting me, telling me I've been doing a good job (on DWTS). That's a beautiful thing, coming from him."
Sapp is only at the NFL Net studios once a week for now, but his role will expand once the network starts doing live Thursday night games in November -- about the same time the DWTS comes down to the final pairings.
As for the upcoming "NFL GameDay Morning" show, here's a link to an interview Marshall Faulk has with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (linked here).
