USC-UCLA: Setting the table on ESPN Classic, Prime Ticket

| | Comments (0) |

I covered the Trojans-Bruins game 20 years ago -- the Rodney Peete measles game -- and after reading Jill Painter's flashback of it today (linked here) I wish I could see it again.

Neither ESPN Classic nor Fox Sports Net comes through. Close, but no.

Instead, the repeats starting today that head into Saturday's game at 1:30 p.m. (Channel 7) (a link to the rivalry here) are from other years, other times.

Such as:

Today, 11 a.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 18, 1967: USC 21, UCLA 20: As Chris Schenkel described the O.J. Simpson cut-back touchdown: "Sixty-four thrilling, captivating, collegiate-football yards!" Huh? (Wikipedia recap here).

Today, 2 p.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 21, 1981: USC 22, UCLA 21: Marcus Allen runs for 219 yards and two touchdowns as he heads for a Heisman trophy. (Repeated, Dec. 10, 8 a.m.)

Tonight, 10 p.m., Prime Ticket: Nov. 17, 2001: USC 27, UCLA 0: Pete Carroll's first crack at the rivalry.

Tuesday, 10 a.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 20, 1993: UCLA 27, USC 21: At the Coliseum, it's Terry Donahue's only career win over USC when the Rose Bowl was on the line for both teams.

Tuesday, 2 p.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 21, 1987: USC 17, UCLA 13: Peete leads the Trojans on a fourth-quarter comeback, hitting Erik Affholter in the corner of the end zone for the game-winning score at the Coliseum.

Wednesday, 2 p.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 23, 1996: UCLA 48, USC 41: Cade McNown engineers the fourth-quarter comeback and a double-overtime victory.

Thursday, 2 p.m., ESPN Classic: Nov. 21, 1992: UCLA 38, USC 37: The John Barnes game. The walk-on, backup-up QB guides the Bruins past Rob Johnson and the Trojans at the Rose Bowl.

Thursday, 5 p.m., Prime Ticket: Nov. 21, 1992: See above.

Friday, 10 a.m., Prime Ticket: Nov. 17, 2001: See above.

Friday, 2 p.m. ESPN Classic: Nov. 17, 1990: USC 45, UCLA 42: It was Todd Marinovich's 23-yard TD pass to Johnnie Morton with 16 seconds left that ended it at the Rose Bowl.
