Your postgame NBA Finals options ... and our abandonment issues

Why would I keep it tuned to KABC-Channel 7 after the Lakers-Magic Game 1 of the NBA Finals tonight? Laziness, probably. We're not really paying attention to who's saying what anyway. We just watch the game, for crying out loud.

But we do have options.

Now, ABC has its "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show, which was actually taped before the contest, and shown before Game 1 on the East Coast (at 8 p.m. EDT). It followed the usually innocuous Rob Fukuzaki-Michael Cooper recap.

ESPN has its own post-game show. So does NBA TV.

Oh, right, and Fox Sports West.

FSW's interesting approach -- that's a polite way to say "curious, yet not sparking our curiosity" -- to covering the Lakers' playoff run has culminated in a crazy cross-pollination effort that eliminates the local crew of Bill Macdonald, Rick Fox and (still waiting on his DUI case) Norm Nixon and adds the Fox crew from Orlando that has no connection to the L.A. audience - and visa versa, with Stu Lantz, Joel Meyers and Patrick O'Neal representing this side of the country in the post-game efforts.

FSW coverage was already somewhat sparse during the Lakers-Jazz first-round series, then disappeared during the series against Houston and Denver.

Now they expect local viewers to tune in after feeling abandoned leading up to this?

Without cultivating the regular-season viewers during the recent playoff run, what's the payoff to turning into FSW during the money shot?

Besides, this show really plays it down the middle -- in this case, not getting too crazy over the Lakers' 25-point dominance, and not spinning it as a disheartening way to start the series for the Magic.

Pass the oatmeal.
