50 years ago today: The final legal hurdle cleared in the Dodgers' deal with L.A.

1959_32_b.jpgEleven days after a 9-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in Game 6 of the 1959 World Series gave the Dodgers their first World Series title in their second year in L.A., the team cleared the last last legal hurdle in their contract with the city of L.A. to lead to construction of Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine.

The United States Supreme Court denied federal review of the California Supreme Court decision affirming the Dodgers' contract with the city of Los Angeles.

We learn much more about the context of the 50 year anniversary of the Dodgers' '59 World title on a new 30-plus-page presentation on the site dedicated to late Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley --- www.walteromalley.com.

1959_11_a.jpgThe tribute is authored by Robert Schweppe, the son of one-time Dodgers' minor league operations VP Bill Schweppe. Robert also was a long-time member of the Dodgers' front office team and is on Peter O'Malley's staff. Much of the information is culled from old Los Angeles Examiner and L.A. Times archives, with many references to calls that Vin Scully made along the way.
