A reminder: Tonight, a "Kings Ransom" delivery

Peter Berg's hour-long documentary on the trade of Wayne Gretzky from Edmonton to the Kings starts ESPN's "30 For 30" project, but if today's 5 p.m. launch (on ESPN) isn't convenient, there are a couple of replays -- tonight, 8 p.m., on ESPN2, then Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ESPN, Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN Classic, and next Monday, 4 p.m. on ESPN2.
Watch 'em all if you can. No, nothing changes. Not even the goosebumps you get when you see Gretzky pull his black Escallade into the former players' entrance at the Forum, get out, and stand in the entrance of what used to be the ice rink where he started his new career in 1988.
Berg said he was with Gretzky when that opening was filmed, and he got the same kind of goosebumps.
"Everytime I watch it I get goosebumps, because for me, living as a hockey fan in L.A. and suffering in the pre-Gretzky days, I'll never forget the moment he stepped on the ice," said Berg in a recent phone interview.
During an interview that FSN West's Patrick O'Neal did after Saturday's Kings-Coyotes game, producer/writer Berg (sporting a NY Giants cap and a Taft T-shirt) explained that his piece that "with all the time that's gone by, Wayne can finally talk about it honestly ..."
Two things that Berg also confirms to O'Neal that aren't included in the documentary: Gretzky insisted that Marty McSorley come with him to L.A., and Gretzky's wife, Janet, suggested he go to Detroit instead because "it's a better hockey town."
Berg also made a plea to the camera: "I just hope Wayne comes back and coaches the Kings ... that would be a great thing for hockey ... If he's watching, Wayne, c'mon, get back here and coach our team. We need you."
Bill Simmons, ESPN.com's columnist, is the series host as well as an executive producer of the "30 for 30" series (as he explains at this link) and host of a podcast show (linked here), as Berg talks about having Peter Pocklington, Bruce McNall and Gretzky appear at a screening last week in Beverly Hills.
