Can the Angels just get to the end of this thing without an injury?

Angels pitcher Trevor Bell lies on the mound after getting hit with a broken bat by Texas' Chris Davis during the fifth inning of Thursday's game at Angel Stadium.

A broken bat can ruin a nice leisurely trip to the playoffs for the Angels.

Forget the 11-3 loss to Texas on Thursday afternoon in Anaheim in the final home game off the season.

Angels reliever Trevor Bell (1-2) not only suffered the loss, he was hit by the pointed end of Chris Davis' broken-bat lineout to short in the fifth inning. The rookie right hander was flattened on the mound for a few moments but able to leave the field under his own power after that third out.

Bell came back for the sixth inning and gave up six runs, as the Rangers took a 9-3 lead.
