Early 2006 Tribune Top 10 (FOOTBALL) ...
It's amazing how many people want to talk about football all flippin' year. I admit, it's never far from my mind. It seems to be what excites our office and readers most. I know it's early and this Top 10 is definitely subject to change. Here's what in my estimation is the top teams in the east SGV.

1. Charter Oak - How many sophomores got PT last year?
2. West Covina - First few Mater Dei fans have already arrived.
3. Bishop Amat - Supposedly talented, soon-to-be junior class.
4. Damien - QB Mendrun could be tops in the area.
5. Covina - Offense should be amazing.
6. Rowland - Dynamic senior class returning.
7. South Hills - Obviously, the Huskies will reload.
8. Los Altos - James Davis transferring out hurts.
9. Wilson - Not so sure the 'Cats shouldn't be higher.
10. Diamond Ranch - Don't want to hear it ... the schedule will take its toll.
I can find 99 reasons why I like CO this season. But one will do - DEFENSE.

You might be wondering where Ayala, Chino and Chino Hills are. I am going to re-evaluate our coverage of those schools and Claremont. I will ask the boss, aka sports editor Doug Spoon, if he wants to keep it going. Some people like it, some people don't. I know quite a few people are getting the Trib in racks out in the Chino Valley. For now, this Top 10 will include only the core Tribune schools.
As always, feel free to discuss. Tell me where I went wrong, even though I don't think I did. If you're sweating the email thing in the comment box, then make one up. This is an anonymous site in the true spirit of Al Gore's Internet.

Interesting thoughts on your blog, can i ask where you got your colors from?
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I agree. CO has built a strong program and will get stronger. I see them attracting players from other areas like LA did a few years when Gano was strong. I don't know if they will ever beat a team like Amat, especially with a former Amat/Bruin running the show. Finally the SGV will have more than one team to cheer for!
co always brings a tough team nomatter the tallent and schedule and division becuase of the coaching staff that i myself was couched under from 1998 to 2002 where we brought two championships and returned to finals all for years that my class played football under co coaching staff so watch out the chargers every year.
rowland well beat anyone co and la are a joke ps. weres the write up on them
Dont sleep on Covina, they do return the areas best player in Mike Mcdoungh..I mean look at his numbers last year...36 passings touchdowns and another 14 rushing touchdowns....I am sorry people but numbers like that have not been put up in this valley since a guy by the name of Mike Smith play this game in the early 80's.
One more reason for CO to continue as one of the areas top teams is the talent on this years Freshman Team which won the Miramonte Title. There are several players who will contribute the next 3 years.
Re: CO vs LA last year
It might have been the delay (Traffic on FWY) to start the game or it could have been that first play that caught LA of guard. CO started strong and didn't let up much. I have to admit the further into the game the more nervous I became. CO QB Carrion, was new to his position last year he should do much better and have a lot more confidence.
I had seen Los Altos put up 30-something points on Damien. Charter Oak was shutout by Damien. I figured that the Conqs would get what they wanted on offense and wouldn't have to be anything special on defense to slow down CO. The error was not realizing that Farrar and staff would only get better throughout the season. CO's defense was awesome that night against LA and the offense was very efficient, give or take a few plays. I think LA was kind of stunned that CO could stand up to them and not allow the big play.
Yeah exactly we'll avenge that 33-3 beatdown.
Go CO!!!
Ah, I remember last year when this paper suggested that Los Altos would win by what was it? 14 points?
Charter Oak has one of the best Football programs in the valley. Farrar has built a program that will continue to grow for many years. Next years seniors and the 16 Sophomores from last year will only get better.
So what you're saying is that Damien could get revenge in this year's holy war?
You should put Damien higher for sure, CHarter Oak has a decent sophomore class, but damiens is way better. Watch out for Mark Mendrun,Travis Eshardies and Daniel Harper of Damien. GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!!
