OK, back to swimming for a sec ....

That's Walnut's Andrew Utama. Who are the top male swimmers in the area? I need you guys to keep giving the "heads up" on the good swimming to cover!!!
Is it basically a lock that Kirsty Ferrell and Rachel Grant are going to win CIF titles this year? I am getting pumped for finals. I know there is a lot of swimming between now and then, but I love it when our area has studs in the pool.
Kirsty Ferrell's mom, by the way, is one of my favorite parents. She always has great info for me and what Kirsty and Glendora are doing. It would be great to get her on here.

MARK KEPPEL Boys came in 2nd (Div. IV) last year and have had no coverage whatsoever! I am upset, especially after last year's 'nickel and dime' comment...the only recognition we received. Its unfair to those boys and their families. Why did the that reporter interview me for over 20 minutes about the boys and only publish the girls' comments, while focusing rest of the article on Gabrielino's boys...WE BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN INVITATIONAL! Expect more parent responses people. See you at Belmont.
I'm really glad there's a master meet that gives the talented Div IV swimmers a chance in the spot light.
I agree about worst chlorine at Commerce. And the air circulation is SO bad, even when they have those fans blowing at the entrances. My daughter suffocated while swimming there at the winter invite last December. And she was only one of many who needed the oxygen tank on that weekend.
Belmont is the best indoor pool in So Cal by far. The worse chlorine has to be in the Commerce Pool. Cerritos also has an indoor pool that can get to you if they do not open the top. Belmont is pretty good considering the alternatives. They have some nice outdoor pools but that brings alot of other factors into effect.
Re: fumes at Belmont
Those aren't all tears of joy on our faces. The chlorine there is so strong it stays in your skin for a week. And I'm just a spectator.
OK, I've always wanted to ask this - and I may sound like an ass - but do the chlorine fumes get to anybody else at Belmont? They jam us press types under the stands in what amounts to a storage closet where we all type in results. Once I feel I have a handle on the results, I usually hang outside by the sand. Then I go back in to watch the races locals are in. Maybe I am just not used to the swim scene enough to not the let the humidity and fumes get to me.
Also this weekend there are some past local high school swimming stars swimming in their conference championships at Chaffey college. Joseph Sutandyo and Curtis Cheng, both of which swam for Walnut last year are swimming there along with other alumni from local high schools. They had a good day yesterday and they will swim today and tomorrow.
The master's meet will be held at Belmont Plaza on May 16. Prelims will begin at 9:00 am until about 1:30, then finals will be from 6:00 pm until it finishes. Diving will be held in between. The meet will bring together the top 24 swimmers and relays in each event regardless of their CIF division. It should be a great meet and something that everyone in high school swimming should be excited about because we have worked a long time to get a meet like this.
Charter Oak's Swim Team (Division IV - Miramonte League)is doing very well. All four levels have just finished the regular season at #1 all are undefeated in league. Charter Oak's swim program has gone from last place four years ago to first thanks to the great coaching staff lead by Coach Howard Hyde.
League prelims and finals are next week at Bonita @ Las Flores park.
Thank you for the nice comments on Kirsty and myself. Division 1 sprints are sure to be exciting. Like Matt suggested there is also some great talent in Orange County in the Women's 50 and 100 free events. We also have heard nothing from San Bernadino County or had any results this season from senior Jessie Perazzo (Yucaipa High School) who won these events last year. She is a water polo player and signed with Arizona State to play there next year. Kirsty's coach next year, Stan Crump, from BYU is flying down to watch her and others (Matt take note) and it is my understanding that he will be staying over to see the Masters Meet.
Several items on the masters meet. Not only will the swimmers be needing to hold their taper for the extra days beyond the division finals, but the format for the meet is prelims in the morning and finals in the afternoon. For those standout swimmers, they could be swimming 4 events (or even more with relays if they have them) in one day. That is more swimming than they will do in a Conference championship in college where each swimmer typically contests one event per day, prelims and finals with relays. For Kirsty and Rachael, they will be swimming at least 4 events. It will indeed be exciting. Kirsty is excited to compete with the best and I'm sure I will be more nervous than she is! By the way, Sierra League is not really packed with talent this year. Scott Player, Ayala, is probably the best bet for a medal in the men's sprints along with Travis Loie of Diamond Bar. Michelle McCadden has really be swimming strong for Glendora and it will be interesting how she tapers. You could see a surprise swim from her. Matt is correct, her event is deep and she will have to pull out a great effort to final. Damien is really deep with good swimmers but not really any standout swimmers, so it will be interesting to see how they do. We had our dual meet with them this week and they easily won but again there were no real standout swimmers as in the past.
Thanks again for the interest in swimming. We will see you at Belmont!

I read about it in the LA Times. I went to the CIF Website and got this information http://cifss.org/uploadpdf/2006mastersswimbulletin_copy1.pdf
It looks like it will be held at Belmont It will be Tuesday May 16th with Prelims in the Morning and Finals at night. I was wrong it is the top 24 from all the combined times from the earlier CIF that get to swim. I would hope we have a good group from SG Valley that make it and hopefully maybe someone can even win it.
I didn't see it. This sounds great. Where will it be held?

I left a comment earlier about the new Masters meet for swimming that will take the Top 16 from all divisions and have a special meet for them the Tuesday after the CIF Division Championships. I saw this in the LA times. Did you know about it?
Andrew Utama has a good chance in the Breastroke in Division 2. Scott Player is looking really good in Division 1. He has a chance in the 50 Free and the 100 Fly. Travis Loie at Diamond Bar has a chance in the 100 Back. Look for Vincent Pai of Walnut in the future he is just a sophmore but has lots of potential in the 100 Breast.
Ethan Bradley would give it a shot in the 500 and he is only a Sophmore but because he changed to Charter Oak he needs to swim JV this year. I am not sure who the individuals will be for Damien but they always have lots of depth and should fare well as a team. It is tough to beat those loaded Orange County teams though.
On the girls side I think Kirsty and Rachel both have shots. Kirsty's best shot should be the 50 Free, I think she could also do well in the 100 Free and 100 Fly but they only let you swim 2 individual events. Rachel is nationally ranked in the 200 Fly and the 400 IM but these events are not offered at CIF. She won the 200 Free and 500 Free last year but this year there are two girls in the 500 Free with better times the her. She is also good at the 200 IM and won that as a Freshman so it is hard to know what she will swim. The 200 Free is right before the 200 IM so it would be hard to swim both as there would be no chance to rest.
Angela Kanigowski from Rowland is a good Breastroker in Division 2 but it will be tough to beat Stefanie Gabert a Jr. who won this event twice already. Michelle McCadden is Freshman at Glendora who could do well but it will be hard for her to win in Division 1. Same thing for Bellona Yuan at Diamond Bar. She is a sophmore and can swim all strokes well but it will take an real outstanding swim for her to win CIF in Division 1.
