2006 Rowland football schedule + analysis ...

Things haven't been this exciting around the Rowland football program since, well, most of this year's team wasn't a lock to make it thru the night without wetting the bed. So, it's pretty exciting.

Rowland broke through in a big way last year. Fans are now hoping for another step forward this season. Last year's success, believe it or not, was something most observers saw coming. Rowland sports one of the best soon-to-be senior classes around. These guys have taken great pride in turning around the program. It's amazing they stayed together and lived up to the promise.
What jumps out at me is that the Raiders' sked is chalk full of games worthy of seeing. The Glendora game is an odd matchup. Wilson as the league bye is another good one. And of course, the wars with South Hills and WestCo are priceless.

California (win)
Sonora (win)
Montebello (win)
Don Lugo (toss-up)
Glendora (toss-up)
Nogales (win)
South Hills (toss-up)
Walnut (win)
Wilson (toss-up)
West Covina (loss)

As you can tell, this team has a chance for a very productive season. Nobody can say right now which way the Don Lugo, Glendora , South Hills or Wilson games go.
I think 7-3 or 8-2 is a good projection right now. Rowland has a good QB in Chase returning, which is something I really like at the high school level. A good QB with experience is an incredible headstart at this level. RB Rene Small was hyped going into last year and he flashed signs of worthiness, but it was Mark Burgos who did most of the Raiders' damage on the ground.
The defense has some big shoes to fill with Gorb and Reagan Seui gone. Their loss can't be underestimated. LB Chad Norys must now anchor the entire defense. There is a new head coach in Snyder, but he was there last season as a coordinator, so it's hardly a sweat.
This will be a good team to see toward the end of hell week. But the potential is there for another big year.

Projected record: 7.5-2.5
League: Second place
Playoffs: Yes. Semifinals darkhorse.

Can't a guy have a gripe once in a while? Alright I'll get over the Rowland loss, anyways
131 tackles for a strong safety say's a lot for Chad Norys, looks like you have a couple of guy's with size comming back on the line according to last seasons program, it will be a tough game for both teams,I hope West Co. is as good as people say they will be.

dan,get off of it west co. lost and that was that,
its funny when yu here people say if this happened or that happened or we got screwed, the buttom line is yu lost deal with it,refs run off the field every game when its over. rene small did play running back last yr and he was better than mark burgos not to take anything from burgos who had a fine yr but rene got hurt for 5 games but hes fine and looks great so far in spring,as for chad norys he did play ss but with the defense rowland runs that like a 3rd lb and he to is bigger, faster this yr and for a guy to have 131 tackles at ss his jr yr well i dont have to say,but thats a dam good season.

West Co had some key penalty's at criticle time's during the Rowland game, I remember the West Co fans were mad because most of their big play's were called back,& then with a few seconds left in the game what seemed like a sack
instead I believe was called a forward lateral. [As the QB was being tackled 15 to 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage he attempted to lateral the ball as he was going down, to a player in front of him,the ball fell to the ground] I'm not sure of the rules but it seems to me it should have been a sack or a fumble, or some kind of penalty such as intentional grounding, anyway's after a long delay the refs returned the ball to the origional line of scrimmage which kept the ball
on the 30 instead of the 45 or 50yrd line where the sack would have been, this kept Rowland in field goal range and they kicked a game winning field goal. It was funny cause the instant the final gun sounded all three refs ran to their cars, they must have felt the anger in the crowd.
Weather the refs called a bad game or West Co.
had bad timing with penalty's both teams played hard and the game could have gone either way,so it was a good night of football.

good luck next year guys you come from a tough league with three good teams.however please do not over rate chad norys this earlie in the season no offense but you did not make enough playes last year
so unless your on steroids west co you know will roll all over you rene is strong and phil is chill but bro dont get to hyped then be a bust....oh and 64 was tight he played ot/og last year he was tight WEST CO YOU KNOW GO BULL DOGS

Joe, what happened to Small last season? Was he hurt or was Burgos the better back? Also is Norys
a LB this year, cause last season he was a DB wasn't he?

joe said:

dan, rowland might of lost the seui brothers but they still have the best lb in the valley in chad norys and in the rb position rene small is two steps ahead of burgos he well rule any valley rb.

I wasn't at last year's WestCo/Row game, but as I had it explained to me, WestCo may have had some excuses in a close loss. Turnovers and what not ... I guess the beat goes on.

I think you have this one right Aram,Rowland will be real good but the Seui brothers and Burgos loss is a big void to fill, I'll go with
West Co. in a close game, and South Hill's is a
toss up.

how is wilson a toss up when they beat them last yr,and they well beat west co ill put money on it.
