The Saints better toughen up in '06, or else ...

San Dimas was soft in 2005. There, I said it. This was a team that looked good in its uniforms, but wanted no piece of being aggressive - especially on defense. The Saints didn't like to tackle and there was just no nastiness to the stop unit.

San Dimas allowed almost 35 points per game. The defense was flat out embarrassed against Covina (55 points) and San Dimas (49 points). OK, those were both great offensive teams. But if San Dimas wants to be at a certain level, it can't get pushed around by comparably talented programs.
This year's schedule is deceptively tough. The Saints play two league champs (Gladstone and South El Monte) in nonleague action and also have the Smudge Pot game against Bonita.

Week 0 Gladstone (win)
Week 1 South El Monte (loss)
Week 2 Montclair (win)
Week 3 Carter (loss)
week 4 Bye
Week 5 Bonita (loss)
Week 6 Baldwin Park (loss)
Week 7 Northview (toss-up)
Week 8 Ganesha (win)
Week 9 Covina (loss)
Week 10 Pomona (toss-up)

Projected record: 4-6 or 3-7
Valle Vista League: Outside chance at third
Playoffs: Unlikely

Running back Roy Curry was San Dimas' best player in '05. He's gone as is QB Eric Samples and other running back Ryan Richard. QB Ricky Ochoa got some time last year, so he's not exactly a rookie. RB/DB Jacob Borzilieri was a good do-it-all player last year and probably the only Saint who appeared to like contact.
San Dimas has one of the better weapons around in receiver Jon Joe. He's 6-foot-4 and athletic. But lets be honest, he caught two TDs last year and how can he be properly utilized in coach Bill Zernickow's Wing-T?
I see more struggles for this program. I do, however, think Zernickow will turn this program into a contender. But when your league-mates have stars like BP's Aaron Harris and Covina's Mike McDonough, how much can you expect?

The only thing the Saints are this year is young! The speed and size is there, but unfortunately the experience is not.

This year will be better than last, with the offensive and defensive schemes a year older. Watch out for 2007!

I've never seen San Dimas play, but most Wing-T teams I have played and coached against were physical. Let me take that back. The successful Wing-T teams have been very physical. I beleive Lompoc runs a Wing-T. No, I am not referring to the Double-Wing smash mouth that Bloomington revitalized.

Truth, all is true, they are slow. As for can't hit, truth is right, being slow was the problem, they were aggressive, but people just ran around and by them. #32 is done. He was a senior. They have nobody. They aren't even big anymore.

"The Truth of the matter is" San Dimas is Big, But they do not have the talent to truly compete in their league next year. For the 7 minutes their coaching staff uses running their wing-T to score a touchdown, it will take players such as Harris of BP and JJ of Covina 10.7 seconds to do just the same. As for them being soft, that may have some truth to it as well, but slow is a better word for it! You can't hit what you can't catch!!! So how will the Saints do this upcoming season? The Truth is that they will struggle as they try to rebuild their program yet again. They will win 1 out of 4 preseason games, and at that point the parents will begin to throw their stones yet again at the coaches. They will enter league play and finish with a win over Ganesha. Covina, BP, Northview, and Pomona have something that San Dimas will be missing....... SPEED! Can't coach that!!! One bright spot for the Saints will be the return of their fullback #32. Not a very fast kid, but tough as nails and will be aggressive and runs hard. " Maybe the Saints can clone a few more just like him." Hmmmm, Yeah Right, that would go over real well ha!"

My bad, Swarm. You're right Koffmead won the leaugue and South El Monte went to the semis. It's strange, but I think most people feel like South El Monte had the better season even though they lost to Koffmead (minus Aguirre I believe). And it all has to do with the playoffs.

Swarm said:

Aram, SEM wasn't a league champ. Rosemead went 5-0. Other than that you were right... no hitters as a defensive unit. Looked like a team that didn't fit the system of the new coach. Perhaps, having a new class coming in will help the kids adapt to the system.

correction: South El Monte was not a league champion last year: they finished second.

Isnt that the same problem Soft Dimas has every year? They always have a problem with their coach.
it was the same case with the last 2 coaches. keep up the good work "Soft Dimas" parents, and boosters. we'll just chalk you guys up as another victory along with Ganesha. Try the Montview League maybe you guys could compete with Gladstone and Duarte."MAYBE"!!!!!!!

I think that the problem with san dimas last year was because the team was not accepting the new coach. Disgrunted players and fans were on prepca expressing there disaproval of the new coach. If that team they had last year would had worked as a team, they could've been alot better. Im not saying they would have won more games, but they did have size and speed in curry. I dont see much for them next year, I cant wait, south el monte opens the season against them.

I thought this conversation was about san dimas ,northview and baldwin park, you will get your chance to be picked apart, but for now ,let's pick apart san dimas!

TY said:

Northview wont shut down Harris this year, you didnt even shut him down last year 136 yds. keep in mind B.P. has a better offensive line and a much improved QB whos not a sophomore anymore.

aram, I saw San Dimas play against Pomona. They were horrible. The defense was like swiss cheese. With Curry gone the offense is hurting. It will be a few years before SD can get back on top.

their want be any toss up about who will win against northview and saints the vikings are for real this year you will seeand you seem to forget we shut down harris every year and covina beat us only because of a call back touchdown

Aram, isn't that the typical San Dimas year and team. They look like a monster of a team in their uniforms. They look big and physical in their pregame, but unfortunately for them, the game starts and they are soft as tissue. they might get 2 wins in league, "ganesha and pomona".
