C'est la vie to some of the area's top baseball teams ...

Wow, the SGV got shocked! Los Altos (Miramonte League champ), Northview (Valle Vista League champ), South Hills (San Antonio League champ), South El Monte (co- Mission Valley league champ) all ONE-AND-DONE!

CO, of course, is still going.

Those league champs, Nogales and Damien all said adios. I don't know how many of you catch my TV show on Adelphia, but I was asked, in consecutive weeks, about San Dimas' chances in the playoffs. I said repeatedly that we often see teams that finish second but go further than the league champ does in the playoffs. That would be San Dimas. I said that before the brackets were released and here we are with Northview gone and San Dimas still playing.
I was also asked which team out of San Dimas, Charter Oak or Damien would go furthest. I said Charter Oak because the Chargers got one helluva draw. CO drew La Puente while Northview got La Habra. No offense to La Puente, but La Habra is a much more difficult first round game. The Vikes were handed a tough assignment, no doubt.

Bishop Amat, Charter Oak, Chino, Mountain View and San Dimas are all that's left from this area. Yikes!

Meanwhile, the Sierra League flexed its muscle in softball. Diamond Bar, Chino Hills and Glendora all advanced. Diamond Bar shutout the top seed in the division. If you like softball, then you're treated by having the Sierra League in this area!

Charter Oak baseball is alive and well. Strong pitching, good defense, great coaching, this is a team that will reclaim the leauge title and go deep into next years playoffs. The Jv went 17-2 and the team that went into the second round of the just concluded playoffs are littered with great players including tiffany, bailey, nyholt, etc.

The Quarterback at Amat is named Xavier but i can remember his last name. The running backs other than gaisie are juniors Bryce McBride and Marcus Wagner. The QB Coach is Sean Koelle and The DB Coach is Chris Devera and the Linebacker Coach is coach zenzola

Those Amat baseball teams were great. However, I always found it strange that Amat competes in lower divisions for sports other than football. But, I suppose that is one of the reasons why the CIF has realligned, right?

Do you measure good programs by CIF? If so, out of the programs listed in the poll, how many have won CIF championships in last 5-10 years? Umm, only one. Yes, only 1 and that was Amat in 2002. Amat is a good program, but only one that openly can recruit and accept kids from out of the area. That's a huge advantage, but don't get me wrong, Kenny does a good job and is a good guy. South Hills has struggled in playoffs (this year out in first round) and Northview is another one this year. I know they've gotten to second round a couple times and maybe a 1/4 one time, so I don't think it's a reflection of the programs that lose. Programs are also about what success schools achieve with what they have, can't expect same victories from Workman as you do with Amat. Do players move on to college is another one. That's how I measure programs anyway. CIF is tough.

How can Northview have the area's best program and gets ousted every year in 1st round. Good program though.

It's disappointing to see the top valley teams eliminated in first round. You are right about the playoffs and how certain teams get tough draws. If you look at the Miramonte League and Valle Vista Leagues, you can see that there's a glitch in the system. Los Altos got a tougher draw than second Place Charter Oak. I saw the St. Joes Team that played LA and they were a good hitting club. La Puente was no match for C. Oak. Charter Oak is below .500 on the season and gets the better draw? As for the Valle Vista, Northview came in with the 3rd seed in the division and drew possibly the best 3rd place team in the division from possibly the best league with Sonora and Troy as the other reps. San Dimas drew an average second place team in Santa Monica which came in second place to one of the worst first place teams in the division Culver City. How does CIF explain how this happens? There has to be a better way.

The rumors about the decline of Charter Oak baseball are premature. This team has a good mix of seniors and underclassmen.GO CHARGERS!

Dont forget that the Lady Knights at Arroyo High are doing the Mission Valley league proud. They advanced with a win over Whittier Christian.
