I can't beleive that a 2.0 GPA maintains eligibility. I don't think a 2.0 will even qualify a kid for a college scholarship will it?
Respective of your opinion of blame, a Southern section minimum standard rule is pass a minimum of 4 classes with a 2.0 and not be on probation again. The individuals are ineligible when grades are reported back to the schools. The eligibility list is reported to the coach ASAP not to be hung in his/her locker or to remain in his/her mailbox. Therefore, the blame which is ultimately punishing the girls is the coaches responsibility! Kids will only do what they are allowed to do therefore the coach must maintain the highest level of ethics.
WAIT A MINUTE! When I enrolled my child in High School, I didn't remember the coaches enrolling my child, it was the attendance office. Why are the coaches getting the blame? COACHES SHOULD NOT BE WORRYING IF THE CLERICAL STAFF IS DOING THIER JOB? Coaches should just be thinking of coaching. ATHLETIC DIRECTORS AND ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL SHOULD TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING ELSE, I feel for the kids, the fact that they put thier trust in their Administration and they were let down. (Just my opinion)
maybe what should be focused on here is not how "tragic" the event is, but how this went unnoticed. its pure neglegence on the administration and coaching staff. the main priority of people in authority is to take care of the students, and knowing whether are not they have the grades should fall under that catagory. i think they should stop the name blame and focus on themselves. they are the one to blame. blame whoever they want, but it still doesnt matter, at the end of the day, she didnt have the grades, and you cant change that. its that simple. and its a plain cif rule. you cant aruge that.
and also, where is the integrity of the coaching staff and administration. fess up when making a mistake, be the bigger person in the situtation, and stop trying to get sympathy. that act gets old after a while.
Hmmm...isn't this the same school who just had a wrestling coach suspended for a year over another "clerical error" and had some other date confusion over wrestlers this season???
Maybe something CIF should look into as an overall issue or administrative issue??
