The Official Hall of Fame All-Star Game thread (rosters inside) ...
The East's secondary is X-Rated

West Covina defensive back Xavier Tucker has a knack for intercepting the deliveries of opposing QBs.
IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING, ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT THIS GAME AS WE BUILD TOWARD THE MID-SUMMER CLASSIC, THIS IS THE THREAD TO DO IT IN. I EXPECT TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE.
Date: July 7
Site: Mountain View HS
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
It took a while for the organizers to get the rosters completed and mailed out, but here they are. The East has dominated the series recently, but I get the vibe that could change this year.
This is a great game for local football fans.
It's played a little on the dirty side, which gets some people sour, but I kind of like it. There was a bench clearing brawl in the 2003 game and some ejections in the 2004 game. There is also a good rivalry going between the two territories, with the East feeling as though it's jocks don't stink and the West sporting an inferiority complex. The truth is probably somewhere in between and the games are always exciting.
COMMENTS ABOUT THE ROSTER AND THE RIVALRIES WANTED.
Aram's comments:
1. The biggest question I have is where's Dominic Salmon (Arroyo QB) on the West roster? I don't see how he wasn't selected to play in the game.
2. Take a look at the East's running backs ... Combest, Winbush, Jackson and Hunter - WOW!
3. Can an all-star defense realistically expect to stop Muir QB Forrest Elder? This guy is worth the price of admission by himself. He's going to make life hell on the East defense.
4. South Hills DE Tobi Umodu was selected to play, but is out of all-star games to participate in. CIF allows only two and Umodu will conclude his career in the Shrine.

We dragged Ms. Botello in from watching the surf on sea cliffs so that she could type the rosters (she was actually happy to do it).

I noticed early in some of the posts the question came up .. why certain players were not selected for the all star game and what was the selection process. The way it works in the Sacramento area is the selected all star coaches select the roster of teams they want .. then they contact the players .. some will decline. The players themselves will decide to pass on the game for a number of reasons. Some kids don't want to chance injury and lose their scholarship .. others might have been discouraged by their new college coaches. My son was selected and declined because our game in Northern California is in late July and he will be with his new team in Missouri getting ready for the season. Although he had permission from his college coaches to arrive late to camp; he decided to be 100% at the ideal weight and strenghth and not all banged up from several weeks of practice and perhaps 5-10 lbs lighter. A college freshman wants to make a good first impression when they arrive. Believe me .. it was a tough decision for my son .. since he was a little boy, one of his dreams was to play in the "Optimists All Star Game" .. one of my dreams for him too. Hope I was able to give some insight. ....Malomalo

Salmon and Leon will not be playing in the game

Dont expect to see Salmon or Leon at the game i heard neither of them are playing!!

San Marino has always been the most expensive place to live in the SGV. The problem is more the current demographic. Also, the best athletes in the city don't go to SMHS anymore. Case in point, Henry Burge, the QB at Loyola this season, I believe is a San Marino resident whose brothers played at SMHS.
About the All-Star game ... Scott Stephens (St. Francis) isn't playing. I don't agree about Elder. He looked like the best thrower in the practices I've seen. We'll see.
Posted by: Aram | July 2, 2006 4:47 PM
San Marino football as changed tremendously because of the housing boom. Who could buy house in SM when most houses in SM are averaging $950,000? The same is true for arcadia and now TC. On another note, Forrest Edler is not a great QB, as people say he is. He's not a QB by any means, maybe a DB or receiver. He shot puts the ball & can only throw a streak pattern for his talneted receivers to out jump the coverage, kind of like that old game "three flies up". The best QB on the West side could be Travis Gowan 6'5" 195 from Arcadia who threw for over 2,000 yards and over 20TD. I believe he is the only QB who is headed to a school on a full ride (portland state). For those of you that have seen Auddarius Bailey play from Arcadia, you know what to expect. I would have to say his talnet level is between Desmond Reed & Reggie Bush. He is headed to Citrus College. If anyone disagrees let me know. Lastly, Scott Stephens from St. Francis, could be the X-factor for the West. He had 10 picks for the 2005 season. Richard Garner from Muir is a huge target at TE. Who will cover him? Enough said... West 28 East 21.... In a close one.
Does anyone remember Samson Jugaors from Arcadia, mis-spelled, that played in the 2003 all star game? He played LB at Western New Mexico, transferred as a walk on to Colorado, and now is the starting FullBack on a full ride.

Please don't forget to arrive at the game early. There was a big line at the ticket booth and it caused many people to miss the start of the game i.e. Walter Thurmond's monster hit on Sean Smith.

Maloney would do well on the New England Patriots staff. Maloney, Earnie Adams, Steve B. and Bill B. are all cut from the same mold.
Posted by: New York | June 30, 2006 2:40 PM
Uh ... no. I haven't seen any yet where I go "this guy is brilliant." The only two coaches I've seen in any sport that are just too smart for the other guy are Amat girls hoops coach Richard Wiard and Glendora boys hoops coach Mike LeDuc. Don't get me wrong, we have some very good football coaches around the SGV. South Hills' Steve Bogan always has his team prepared ... Los Altos' Greg Gano many times is said to have only had his success because of talent, but that's not true. Gano has a great offensive mind.
But when you talk about Maloney, you talk about a guy whose teams just never allowed points in the second half. They often played with a size disadvantage and it didn't matter. They often played with a speed disadvantage and it didn't matter. He was the guy that on equal or slightly less footing than another coach, he would win every time. I don't see anything out there like that now. Nobody will ever truly know how great Maloney was because he spent his career in quiet San Marino.
Posted by: Aram | June 29, 2006 11:23 PM
I assume physical dominance took over that game. One thing about Maloney's teams is that they would never beat themselves.
Aram, you get to see a lot of the current coaches working. Is there any "Maloney" for this generation?
Next thread could be about Hitchcock from Temple City...haha!
Posted by: New York | June 29, 2006 6:01 PM
Yeah, I was there. I grew up with alot of the guys on that SM team. I was hoping they'd take it all, but La Mirada with Mike Moschetti at QB was just too good. He went on to play at MSAC and Colorado. Now he's coaching at MSAC, last I heard.
That SM team did a great job to even make the finals. They won some close games along the way.

As a defensive coordinator, it is tough to account for a broken play offense. I'm not saying that is what TC ran that night, but in a way it can turn into that. Just like when Jeremy Bonwell from Muir completely gashed the East defense during the 1995 Hall of Fame Game. It's tough to deal with. You have a very fast QB drop back, the defense goes to where they are supposed to be, but then the gash. It also says a lot about the level of respect that Mooney, and a far more talented team, had for Maloney's defense. They took a big risk to go with a new offense like that.
I remember when Mooney was the SM O-Coordinator and Maloney the D-Coordinator. Those teams were very well coached and they made the best half-time adjustments (a sign of great coaches). In those days, SM usually had 1 star player (QB) (usually not even a true D-1 guy) and two to four pretty good high school football players. But I'm sure Maloney and Mooney instilled in them that they were talented enough to beat anybody they faced.
No wonder Maloney moved to Montanna. That is probably one of the only places that would appreciate such an old school coach.
Aram, did you also go to the 1992 CIF finals, San Marino vs. La Mirada?
Posted by: New York | June 29, 2006 1:00 PM
I went to the game in 1990 against Lompoc. That SM D-Line was very good ... Nate Olsen, Greg Ames and some others ... Nap Kaufman ran all over them, though. I think SM had moderate success in the first quarter, but that's about it. Kaufman was just on another level even though was a very good San Marino team. Having said that, I can recall during the 1988 season when Maloney faced South Torrance and now NFL receiver Johnnie Morton in the first round of the playoffs. Morton took two kicks back for TDs in the first half, but did next to nothing on offense due to Maloney's schemes. He would have this package against teams with stud receivers where he'd put a DB 3-yards off of the stud and then another about 7-yards behind that. So, the guy would get jostled at the line and if for some reason he got past that, he would be confronted by the second DB right away. Guess who I saw do almost the exact same thing in this year's NFC Championship game? That's right, the Seahawks did it to Carolina's Steve Smith and it worked very well.
I think TC coach Mike Mooney knew Maloney would do the same thing to Reed, so he just let him and stayed away from Reed for that game in 2001. TC won that game with its defense anyway. The following year, Mooney used Reed at QB, and the guy went crazy. I was covering that game and remarked to Mooney in the third or fourth quarter that I had never seen anyone dismantle a Maloney defense like TC had ... I don't think Mooney liked me talking to him during the game.
Posted by: Aram | June 29, 2006 10:05 AM
Aram, the story of Maloney's scheme shutting down Reed is opposite of the strategy he employed against Napolean Kaufman and Lompoc in the early 1990's in the CIF quarters or semis one year. Maloney realized Kaufman would likely get close to 200 on the ground no matter what, but he did not want the rest of the team to be effective. Essentially, SM removed the supporting cast. San Marino lost a close one, but they played well and were in a position to win. A trademark of Maloney teams was that they would OVER achieve, yet I'm sure Maloney was never satisfied. I know he was never satisfied with a close loss against a physically superior team. He coached to win. Not many coaches are known for over achieving.
Monte, Bill Maloney's game plans and coaching style were the X-factor as to why you guys were close every game that year. That team's talent level was good enough for Maloney to make it competitive, but very few high school coaches have the savvy and commitment to do what Maloney did. There are far more talented teams, than any recent San Marino team, around the Valley who don't win games. It's certainly not a knock against you and your buddies. If anything, you guys should be commended for buying into Maloney's old school system and work ethic. Sure you guys had a couple talented ball players. Your tall tight end was sure a mismatch for most people, and you guys always played with tremendous heart. Here's a direct compliment to the players on that team: not many (I really can't think of any) teams today would be able to commit to Coach Maloney's demands. The closest guy to Maloney I can think of in terms of commitment, game strategy, and taking pride in consistently beating teams with more talent is a guy I have worked with in the Bronx and New Jersey the past few seasons.
Posted by: New York | June 29, 2006 7:03 AM
San Marino in 2003 was 4-7 with Maloney wearing the big headset ... 'nuff said.
Posted by: Aram | June 28, 2006 11:14 PM
"Any other coach wouldn't have won two games with that team." Wow that takes some brass to say, I was on that team and if you look at our scores from that year we only got beat badly vs burbank, and south pas. every other game was close. Now i respect and love Bill Maloney like a father but what gives you the right to say anyother coach wouldnt have won two games? We had the talent we just came up short.
Posted by: Monte | June 28, 2006 10:28 PM
NY, you want to hear something? I was the ball boy for Maloney's 13-0-1/CIF champs San Marino team in 1988. Yep, true story. He is now retired and living in Montana or Idaho (I believe Montana, though). Uh, that guy is the best defensive coordinator I've ever seen. He came back as an assistant coach/d-coordinator in 2001 and San Marino started that year 6-0, but injuries ruined what was a really good team and they missed the playoffs.
Maloney came up with a defense against former Temple City weapon/current USC running back Desmond Reed and totally shut Reed down that season. TC won anyway, though.
Reed went off against SM the following year even with Maloney as the coordinator. But SM wasn't nearly as strong that season.
Maloney came back again to bail out San Marino's administration in 2003 as be head coach for one season. Obviously, the talent drastically has changed, but San Marino was always in the right place during that season. Anyway, the Titans beat Monrovia in the last weekend of the season (a shutout no less) to make the playoffs. They were out first round. Any other coach wouldn't have won two games with that team.
I left a tee on the field during one game and Maloney yelled at me something awful during the game. It was a great experience. He is an SGV legend, no doubt about it!
Posted by: Aram | June 28, 2006 9:25 PM
Has Coach Bonds from St. Francis ever coached in this game? He would likely do a great job. I think the West should bring Bill Maloney, the former coach from San Marino, in as a consultant. Brownfield is rightfully well known throughout the valley for what he did at Muir, but I have never seen a guy have as much success with such little depth as coach Maloney did at San Marino. I think he coached this game a couple times back in the day.

People look out for one of the most underated players in the game- Anthony Lopez from St.Francis. Tends to get overlooked because his height but when you see the legs and drive on this boy you know why other players are going backwards. Ant. was First Team All Mission League and for those of you that don't know mission league is top notch with the likes of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Chaminade in the mix. A-train lined up both ways on Offense and Defense and was the starting tail back and linebacker down the strech and into the playoffs this year. Good job Ant!!! Show these peeps what's up!

WHY ISNT DOMINIC SALMON PLAYING HE IS WAY BETTER THAN ELDER
Posted by: JACOB | June 26, 2006 3:50 PM
I CAN'T BELIVIE THAT DOMINIC SALMON, LEE AGUIRRE,AND BURGOS ARE NOT IN THE GAME YOU DONT HAVE ANY GOOD PLAYERS. THE EAST HAVE LIKE 20 FOOTGUYS AND YOU THINK YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING YOU GUYS SUCK THIS SHOULD BE THE HALL OF SHAME GAME
Posted by: JACOB SALMON | June 26, 2006 3:29 PM
I agree. I rarely see the best football talent from the West out on the field. Are there grade checks and eligibility requirements to play? Is "character" taken into account?
I can't believe Elder is not playing. Is that true?
Posted by: New York | June 26, 2006 10:25 AM
My son has posted a couple of comments on this website, he is twelve years old and he makes more sense than the people in charge of putting the rosters together. How can you call this an all-star game. If this was a true all-star game then lets put all the real talent together, the West should have Lee Aguirre and Dominic Salmon
along with Alfred Varela, Deon Sumler, Forrest Elder and Sergio Leon from Arroyo. Now that's talent. Go West and good luck to all the players, you have kids like my son watching you and wanting to be just like you, so play hard and show them how hard work and determination got you to this point.
Posted by: Charlie's dad | June 23, 2006 9:18 PM
I cannot believe that some of the areas BEST are not on the West Quad. Salmon.Agurrie, Sumler have been leading their teams for 3 years. Salmon would have a field day with some of the receivers on this team. He has been there for 3 years setting numerous records abd receiving numerous awards and yet he is not on the team. Agurrie proved this year that he is also at the top.If you want this LOYAL Fan to stick with this game you had better get it straight. It's called fraud when you say you have the best on the field when you don't. Check the stats. I will not be going to the game this year or if I do I will sit on the East.
Posted by: Jacob Salmon | June 23, 2006 7:43 AM
The latest from game organizer Jim Brownfield is that Santa Fe's Aaron Jackson and Diamond Ranch's Corey Nolan are OUT of the game. Also, the West lost all of the L.A. schools kids i.e. players from Garfield and Franklin.

could you e-mail me the Los Altos 2006 football schedule?-thanks!
Posted by: dennis maldonado | June 22, 2006 2:48 PM
Daniel Robles QB from Amat is playing in the Hall of Fame Game, do not know why his name was not on the roster. He was there for his physical and pictures, good luck to all of the kids (young men) who will play in this game. Stay healthly.
Posted by: gregg | June 20, 2006 11:00 AM
I spoke to game organizer Jim Brownfield today and he said some new players would likely be added after some original selections failed to show up for their physicals. He's going to get back to me later this week to let me know exactly who they are.
Also, the Valley hot spot this summer appears to be Bonita HS. The Bearcats are hosting a passing league tourney as well as East team practices for the Hall of Fame Game. The dates appear to coincide, so check for motel rates near Bo-Hi. SICKOS!
Posted by: Aram | June 19, 2006 5:39 PM
Don't forget about the best little receiver around, Alfred Varela from San Gabriel 200 catches, 2800 yards and 28 touchdowns. Not a bad career for a guy 5'9" a buck forty. Oh and he punts, kicks, returns and plays defense.
Posted by: Freddie | June 19, 2006 5:11 PM
So, these are the rosters for the hall of fame game? Does this mean that lee aguirre is not in the game , that is dumb... You can have 5-6 guys coming from el monte and north view, but you cant have Lee Aguirre playing in the game, he deserves to play in that game more than half the guys that are playing in that game. Lee Aguirre took his team to the semi finals on 1 leg. He should be in this game, hes one of the best high school football players i know.
Posted by: charlie | June 19, 2006 11:25 AM
Hey Matt,
Congratulations on making the game.
If you made it to the Hall of Fame Game, chances are that you can fight for playing time at one of the local JCs and eventually get a four year school (does not matter what division) to pay your tuition. Most people are able to make more money with a college degree than without one. Also, if you ever want to be a head high school coach, most schools require you to be some type of teacher, which also requires a degree.
Don't sell yourself short. Keep playing and keep going to school.

Can't wait to play in the hall a fame game and im ready im goin to work hard to start and be ready but its my last game of football so im goin to make it worth wild i want to jus make money and do my thing ya kno!

Hey Bad boy,
If Deon Sumler is so good how did they get knocked out in the 1st round ? If not for Aguirre being out for the Rosemead game, South El Monte would have won and been league Champs (it almost happened even with him out). You have to give credit to the kid, I seen a few of his games and I would take him over Sumler.
Posted by: knights | June 17, 2006 9:37 PM
is sumler going to college and if so were.
Posted by: joe | June 17, 2006 3:54 PM
When you say something about being and all-star. you can't leave out Deon Sumler.Lee From South El monte is a great player but come on now the best player in the valley. That hands down goes to Sumler he carried his team for two years with no passing attack, He was a hell of a DB..He's the best all-around player on the west team..
Posted by: Bad boy | June 17, 2006 10:59 AM
I'm glad Robles is playing. After seeing him play for three years and even playing with him, I think he could make a real impact. At AMAT, he was never given the real chance to explode seeing how AMAT was always trying to run the ball. But I think that if he was given the chance, he could put up some huge numbers. you better bet I'll be there....
Posted by: SGV Athlete | June 17, 2006 1:09 AM
Those numbers are pretty legite. Similar to OJ.
Desmond was definitely the real deal. He almost beat Monrovia single handedly, almost.
I dont think the East's recent success is due to the skill players. I think that the East has better coaching and does a better job on the line of scrimmage. For instance, there is a reason that John Muir puts out a ton of kids to this game. The West is deap in skills, but relatively shallow in the trenches.
Posted by: New York | June 16, 2006 10:12 PM
NY,
Believe me when I tell you that Sean Smith is the best athlete to come out of the west SGV since Desmond Reed. I went to several of the West practices last year and this kid tore it up. He didn't get a lot of notice because he went to Blair. He never left Blair, though, evern after supposedly getting a lot of pressure to go to Muir or PHS. He is now No. 2 on Utah's depth chart at wide receiver. He is a redshirt frosh and has been converted from RB to WR. By the way, he's 6-3, 215 lbs. Unreal!
Posted by: Aram | June 16, 2006 4:49 PM
That was a hell of a hit Thurmond made, it also caused a fumble
Posted by: Dan | June 16, 2006 4:04 PM
I doubt if Smith was the West's best weapon. Or perhaps he was the best weapon actually on the team for the West. I'm sure you could have found some bigger hitters who were not at the game.
Posted by: New York | June 16, 2006 2:11 PM
Per Swarm's comments, it's urged that fans get there early. I can recall there being a line of 10-15 people deep at the ticket counter in the first quarter. From what I recall, there weren't that many open seats, but I could be wrong. I thought the crowd was pretty good. It usually is. We're all sickos jonesing for football action at this point of the year.
Memory: I can remember West Covina's Walter Thurmond III wearing some funky argyle socks in last year's game and warming up with the rest of his teammates without helmets. Then, Thurmond blew up Blair's Sean Smith on the second play of the game in what was one of best hits I've ever seen in a high school game. An absolute explosion, and Smith, who was the West's best weapon, was out for almost the entire game after that. What a hit!

Lee Aguirre is the best player in the valley, he carried his team to the semi's with one leg. If anybody deserves to play in the game it's him. You just can't say enough about what he did for his school. Mt View & El monte having players in the game what a joke those guys wouldn't even get on the field at the top three schools in the league. How do these people pick the teams, it's an all-star game, it should be the best players around not just players from each school.

If Robles plays, look out! I think he actually was a much better QB than any of us know. But I always got the vibe that Verti never took off the gloves with him. He could've put up some major numbers, in my opinion, if he was allowed to wing it. I know, I know, that wasn't Amat's style. I hope Robles plays and shows himself to those who may have missed seeing him. Speaking of miss, Amat is really going to miss him this season.

There are only going to be changes to the roster because of original kids dropping out. You cannot tell me that Aguirre, Salmon & Mendoza are not in the top 40+ players on the West Side. Those guys having to get in as alternates? What a joke. Ask Bogan from South Hills if Salmon ought to be on the West Roster? But instead Mountain View & Keppel get a kid in? And Cantwell has 2 players? Is it an All Star game, or a "It's a small world" sing along? Bottom line is some very good players were left off the West roster. Got to the game last year late and there were still lots of seats available and that was in a small stadium. How can a game in July, in the heart of the SGV, featuring the BEST of the East-West not be more successful?

The rosters are good there is a lot of talent on both sides.Lee Aguirre is a very talented player he has a geat mentality for the game.i have seen him play a couple times.Mark burgos is also a player with the mentality for the game.I think these young men are great players.I would like to be as good as a football player as these 2 men are in high school.

Is Daniel playing?

Great job on the roster, but you excluded QB Daniel Robles from Bishp Amat.

You can always make money in the stock market. It just depends whether you are long a stock or short a stock. That holds true for just about any publicly traded security.
Indeed, oil futures traders have gotten very rich the past couple years.
If the stock market dips the way it did from 2000 to 2002, that would likely encourage the institutional money to stay invested in Real Estate, preventing any major Real Estate value declines. But I'm talking about BIG real estate. The housing market will likely be adversely effected by increasing interest rates.
It seems like the only thing we can count on these days is some great high school football in Southern California. I'm glad we have something to look forward to...

How has the market been? Bad? That's how I see it. Everything I own has either lost or is about where I bought it. Makes me want to vomit. Some of you stock market guys need to just sack up, come out and tell people they missed the run and there's no money to be made for the foreseeable future. Sorry, but it just ticks me off. I can't find a reason why anybody would be in the market right now. Stocks mid 90s ... real estate late 90s and early 2000s ... gold or oil mid 2000s. I missed all of them. Real nice, Aram.

With the market the way it's been, I'm not sure I can get away, not even for a great high school football game...
Nick, I have never heard of a blanket policy that had the DI-bound players not participate in the Hall of Fame game.
As hard as it is to beleive, some players may not want to play in an All-Star game. They may not want to risk injury and jepordize their opportunity to compete for a spot on their college team. They may have a family vacation planned. But definitely, there is no policy or practice that entails the D-I guys not participating.

Does anyone know why Los Altos DB/WR Chapelle Brown not playing? He's probably the most underrated player around, and would start for the east easily. But Im thinking that the D.I College bound arent playing in this game? Because if they did the game would be no contest with the east having Umodu, Cornell, Bennett, & Brown along with that talented backfield.

Just curious does anyone know if Audarrius Bailey, or Deon Sumler are playing ball anywhere next year?
Posted by: M | June 14, 2006 5:14 PM
Lee Aguirre and Mark Burgos definitely deserve to be there. I gotta call the other day from Jim Brownfield and he said there might be some changes to the rosters. I will post when I find something out.
Posted by: Aram | June 14, 2006 2:05 PM
The rosters' look great except for one thing. Why is Lee Aguirre from South El Monte not in the game ?
Posted by: Carlos Carrion | June 14, 2006 9:26 AM
That's a potentially scary East secondary ... Damian James, Matt Austin, Fred Glaster and take your pick from anybody else. I can't wait to see all these kids play together. I attend most of the practices, and I can tell you all, they're something to be seen. I am hoping Podley will let me know when he's going to take the gloves off and let these guys go out at it scrimmage style. I will post it so that fans can be at the right practice. I can remember when Cantwell coach Pete Smolin coached the East, he loved nothing more than letting these kids go at it. It was a site to see.

Wait til you all see Damian James from Northview lay some guys out. The best defensive player on the field will be this kid...He's a hitting machine...Saw him pick up the Covina QB from behind and slam his a.. to the ground. The kid can play qb too...human highlight film.

what is a yagi
Posted by: joe | June 13, 2006 10:25 PM
Where is Mark Burgos at? The most dominate running back that played in the valley!
Posted by: yagi | June 13, 2006 9:09 PM
How come Danny Miller is the only damien guy? Why not the RBs Patrick Coke and Dominic Brown? What about the defensive boys Ryan Farrar, Chris Lucero, Ted Fulham and Brian Malady? They all had great senior seasons!!!

ARM GOING TO MISS THE GAME. DAUGHTER PLAYING IN UTAH. THE EAST LOOKS REALLY GOOD. I REALLY DON'T SEE HOW THE CAM BE STOPPED. WITH COMBEST AND WINBUSH ALONE YOU HAVE A SERIOUS BACK-FIELD. THIS SHOULD BE REAL BARN BURNER!!
Posted by: Rod | June 13, 2006 12:52 PM
why isnt Mark burgos in the game? wasnt anybody at the santa fe/rowland game? aaron jackson and mark burgos were BOTH tearing it up. Mark helped put rowland back on the map.He and the Seui brothers together should be playing to represent the new era of rowland football. its terrible hes not playing

I don't believe there are any defined boundaries. The 605 perhaps? I know that Jim Brownfield likes to semi-explain the boundaries by saying the best players from the SGV and surrounding areas. So, they get players from Garfield, Franklin and Cathedral. Never seen a Loyola kid, probably because they'd have to consider where the kid is from. I will say this, you'd be entertained by the addresses that come with the rosters. I marvel at that every year. The East has had players from Chino and Chino Hills before and maybe a little further out. But the main cast is made up of SGV players.
I do not believe the Tribune, Whittier Daily News or Star-News All-Area teams are considered, so there's no instant entrance into the game if a player is on one of those teams.
I am not asked to help with the selection process, nor is anybody from our group and that's the way it should be.
NY, will you be making a special trip in from NY to attend the game?
Posted by: Aram | June 12, 2006 9:45 PM
What are the boundaries for the game? If the East team reaches into San Bernardino, no wonder they have been winnning...perhaps the West should draw from the Santa Clarita area. Nobody from Loyola?
Aram, do you know whether or not every senior who makes the respective All-Area teams is asked to play? I'm sure some people get overlooked.

don't anybody mess with the seui brothers thats if yu dont want big trouble.(those guys are beasts)

Tobi's picture was up and he was believed to be in the game before South Hills director of football ops James "Jimmy the E" Escarcega called to say he's not in the game.
The coaches and organizers, I believe, are the ones who pick the teams.
I know for sure that Jonathan Cornell was getting to Ole Miss ASAP after graduation to prepare for the season. Brandon Bennett probably was doing the same thing at UCLA.
Posted by: Aram | June 12, 2006 4:22 PM
Looking forward to the game,I will be there, go east!
Posted by: Dan | June 12, 2006 4:08 PM
I did not see Tobi Umodu on the roster did you leave him out because his pictuer was shown. I also agree with leaving out Dominic Salmon. What's up with that? But then again did not see LB - Cornell from Amat or his team mate, I don't know his name but he is that big offensive lineman headed to UCLA? I did see some kids from the IE, they are missing Ross from Rancho Cucamonga I know he was headed to Arizona to play corner, and the Running back from Norco who is headed to Stanford. What is the selection process?
