If you're not excited now, you never will be ...
Check it: Our first glimpse of new Los Altos running back Ira Thomas

He came from Chino Hills on a mission. The mission is to ease the pain of James Davis transferring out.
I GOOFED AND PUT SEPT. 2 INSTEAD OF SEPT. 1 FOR THE WEEK 0 GAMES. IT'S SEPT. 1 (not my first screw up and certainly won't be my last).
Listen the hell up ... the www.sgvtribune.com home page has a new feature that shows the Top 5 most read stories daily with links. It's called "Click Picks." I know, the gimmick title needs work. Anyway, I am going to be quite sour if prep sports stories like mine from today aren't consistently in the Top 5 and mostly No. 1. All of you need to get re-acquainted with the sgvtribune.com/preps page. It's going to be off the hook this year. I'm telling you!
Next, if you're a South El Monte fan, you're not going to want to click on this thread and continue reading ... if you're an Amat fan, let me show you a group of guys who don't give a crap about golden As, Pat Haden and how bright Amat will shine ...

yup, there he is on the far left, linebacker Joe Morales. He would've been the cornerstone to SEM's team this year. Joe transferred to St. Paul where he will continue to be one of the top LBs around. And, I'm sure he's looking forward to a meet and greet with Amat RB Dominique Gaisie on Sept. 1.

You're not dying. You just feel like Aram after 15 minutes of Tae-Bo.
I spoke to four influential people on Monday.
1. Greg Gano - I got LA's preview info and Gano trying to pull a fast one (see below).
2. Mark Verti - I got Amat's practice schedule.
3. Bill Zernickow - I got a lesson in how the Wing-T can actually produce a receiver with good stats.
4. Freddie Robledo - I got nothing.
Back to Gano, I found out that there's two frosh on this year's varsity team who are going to develop into good players.
Gano was giving me his top returnees and newcomers and at the very end he does this: "Oh, and we got a couple of freshman. The first is Terrell Dulberry and the second is Donte Webb."
Huh? " What the hell is that?" I said to him with some bad words mixed in. "You go thru all these names and then tries to slide in two frosh who are going to eventually set the world on fire?"
I love it! Webb is supposed to start at receiver ... this year!
Hey Amat coaches, does this shot help your scouting any?

What's with the transfers? Why are people so bothered by it? So what if a kid wants to transfer if he feels, correctly or incorrectly, that transfering would help his chances 1) to play more 2) play in a better system 3) play for a better coach or position coach 4) use his athletic ability and parlay that into going to a safer school and college 5) just wants to be a pampered primadona? So what? The grass may be greener on the other side but you still have to mow it! Coaches move around, teachers move around, staff moves around, what's the big deal? For every kid that leaves pretend it's a season ending injury and LET IT GO! Sounds to me like sour grapes. Hell kids transfer in college all the time? Too many to list! If you were a stud (fill in the blank) and Mater Dei, Loyola, Damien or Oaks Christian hell even Esperanza offered their school for your (fill in the blank) stud and he was currently enrolled at an unsafe school or low academic school would you grant him the transfer? Life is about choices, good or bad, and learning to deal with the consequences of your decisions, is it not? My godson left AMAT because the Xcountry coach had him running 100 to 120 miles a week during his Freshmen/sophomore summer. He was breaking down with injuries. He was abusive in his tone and discussions with my godson. He was being raised by a single mother, Vice Principal at a local elementary school, with a dead beat for an ex- husband. He left the school because he wanted to be a normal kid and get out from under this jerk. Even after breaking all sorts of AMAT records he just felt like it was time to go. Does he regret it? He seems happier but he'd be the first to admit, "at Amat the teachers care more about you." It was a tough choice but HE made it. He's getting a full ride to a 4 year school and he mows the grass. Good luck Daniel, YOU ARE THE BEST!

I find it interesting that you have Ira Thomas' photo on this blog. I didn't realize that he had transferred again. LA is his third school in 3 years. Another bonafide transfer I assume. Garey to Chino Hills to Los Altos. Terry Roche must have told him he would be nothing more than a backup, so he found a new home. I hate all these transfers. It's still supposed to be about education first, athletics second. I'm sure his education has been lost in all these transfers.

I have no clue. I keep hearing about this, too.
Posted by: Aram | August 24, 2006 12:43 AM
Aram, where on the internet are the 4 amat games going to broadcast??
Posted by: SD | August 23, 2006 10:33 PM
It's at the corner of Rosemead Blvd. and Huntington Drive ... technically in San Gabriel, but it's really no man's land. It looks like a red boat and has great burgers among other things. You should go there the night of WC's game at M-Town. It's not exactly close to MHS, but if you're headed west on the 210 or 10, you might as well keep going. That's what I always say, anyway.
Posted by: Aram | August 23, 2006 6:04 PM
Hey guy's where is the Boat? I assume they must have some good burgers.
Posted by: Dan | August 23, 2006 5:33 PM
Actually not blurred its a fact. Westco tried shceduling them but amat wanted none of it so they took Mater Dei. I understand why Amat wont take them because if they lose 1 game they are done. Who would want to send there kids where they pay 5k a year than to a free school down the road. Dont get me wrong I am all for the catholic education as it serves a better purpose in regards to discipline and your catholic faith. You get better teacher to student ratios at Amat then anywhere close by so it is agood school but as far as them dodging local schools its a fact! Trust me I am in the know.
Posted by: Jmoney | August 23, 2006 11:31 AM
The Boat great place.......Aram whats your take on West Covina playing a D1 school like Mater Dei....?
Posted by: BA 24/7 | August 23, 2006 10:07 AM
jmoney,
wow you are blurrrrred, Amat has went to the local schools and I heard that from a number of the (powerhouse) schools in the valley. I would love to see the Los ALtos program step up, maybe with these blogs we can get it in their heads and call out for it. But Gano is smart, he won't jeperdise his little hold on the d-6 players that transfer in. Amazing
Posted by: john | August 23, 2006 9:53 AM
Thanks, man. Flipping burgers could be anybody, and by the way, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it if you're good. Speaking of which, I need to make a run to "The Boat."
Posted by: Aram | August 22, 2006 4:30 PM
My Bad Aram. I guess flipping burgers is not the same. we'll keep it clean.
Posted by: BA 24/7 | August 22, 2006 4:24 PM
BA 24/7,
Your comments are great and I like having you here as you seem to know something about the Golden A, but we can't have comments about corners, oranges and Zacatecas on here. I know Lancers and Swordsmen can't play nice with such a big game on the horizon, but I don't want things to degenerate. Keep the good takes coming.
Posted by: Aram | August 22, 2006 4:11 PM
PS... our new coach didnt go to St Paul get your facts straight.....
Posted by: Jmoney | August 22, 2006 2:13 PM
Once again your logic amazes me. Do you type and flip burgers all at once, hmm interesting. The rat, cool whatever his deal is no one really cares. No one is banking on Joe to do it all on his own, he wil have a bigtime supporting cast. Last year SP was senior layden and played most all of them because of personal reasons. This years juniors along with what could be compred to one of the best lines in school history will do you in. Throw in two D1 one backs and oh oh amat is in trouble. Nobody cares about overall records that is where you are in the wrong we are just worried about the game at hand. For you to say this years amats team is better than last year whoa you are really making stuff up. I know several coaches first hand and they have informed me otherwise. I know most kids at Amat along with Wagner and they all say otherwise. They arent real happy with Verti as coach so we will see. Amat has bigger problems to overcome internally then are being stated here. As for exposure Joe will get his fair share as SP has Grigsby, Richardson and Stiger all d1 type kids Grgsby up to 12 offers and more to come. Who does Amat have this year that will even come close, NO ONE. I respect Amat for its teams in the past as I played pop warner with Mcutcheon at Rowland and still talk to him. By you guys saying this is a great team you are in for a big let down. Both schools have new lead men and storied pasts but today is what matters. No one cares about the past its time to set the tone now.....Oh another thing why did Amat turn down West Covina and South Hills and this is fact complaining of Banning and Washington??? If Amat loses to one SGV team there done. I mean DONE they will not get any kids from the area as they will lose all of their prestige from there storied program....Im ready lest get it on. I love this game and to think my wife went to Amat, uuuuurrrggggghhh, lol.....
Posted by: Jmoney | August 22, 2006 2:12 PM
JMoney there is one thing for sure and I agree with you "The MIGHTY AMAT".........you said it!.........How can you think a team that went 2-3 in league and played .500 ball 5-5 overall last year is going to step it up this year. Especially after losing a legend in Coach Ancich and replacing him with "THE RAT"....yes your head coach was named that during his HS days at St Paul for ratting out his friend that was seeing two girls just so he could have a shot at one of the girls. True story ask around. He looks like a coach that coaches Jr. All American. Keep playing and winning those games against those powerhouse teams you schedule, Redondo, Banning and Washington. When it comes to playing AMAT wheather in the Pit or in Keifer, Amat teams just love to smash St. Paul. Check the overall record against each other and you will see you got a long way to go before you can step into our shoes and call yourself a great program. This years Amat team is better then last years with a wide variety of talent on both sides of the ball. I do not understand your logic on why this year will be any different then last year. I guess St. Paul is clinging to this kid from El Monte? Geeze the last time I checked El Monte was not sending any kids to the next level except Art Laboe and his killer oldies. Sorry JMoney same results as last year a Amat victory. From Greenleaf to Mulberry the streets will be quiet as your fans walk to their cars with their heads hung down again........It it September 1st yet? Mighty are the Men who wear the Blue and Gold!

Jmoney,
I was at last years game and it was good to see the excitement of the old rivalry. Lets get to it, it was not a few huge breakdowns. The first breakdown was thinking St. Paul could hang and come into Kiefer Stadium. There was no breakdown it was a complete meltdown and whipping by the mighty Lancers. I remimber the days of 10-12 thousand fans jamming into Kiefer Stadium and the Pit to see this game. It is coming back, any local schools that think that they draw a lot of fans come see this game. As for your big linebacker, I am glad to see he is thinking about his future. But going to a d-3 school doesn't promise anything, if he was as good as you are saying he should have gone to a D1 school which draws scouts on a regular bases, especially after Cornell leaves.
Posted by: john | August 22, 2006 6:44 AM
BA 24/7,
Put your money where your mouth is because if you think you are coming out of the PIT with a W it will be for the whooping you are gonna recieve. Since when does Amat play smashmouth?? Hahah if you think all the kids at SP are gonna lay down trust me. SP was down last year worst team in school history if your banking your season on that game be ready for a reality check. And by you telling me all those kids in the lower levels were on varsity wrong they all played in the lower level games. Man I cant wait the downfall of the mighty Amat begins at SP. As for last year if it wasnt for a few huge breakdowns the score doesnt indicate the outcome but this year is a different story. Hahaha freshmen on varsity u are hallucinating. Classic I love this rivalry....
Posted by: Jmoney | August 21, 2006 4:57 PM
JMoney don't bet money!........still bitter about your varsity getting trounced last year. well the same will happen this year. It is not Gaisie that drives this team it is a mixed combination of talent. Lower level wins I will give you all season long. Amats upper talented kids from freshman and JV were on varsity last year. WOW with that year under their belt at the varsity level these kids are comming to play smash mouth football..........Keep recruiting those El Monte kids out of D7 because come Sept. 1st under your horrific dim lighting the Scoreboard will still flash a Amat victory.........
Posted by: BA 24/7 | August 21, 2006 2:56 PM
Amat fans are in for a big surprise week 0. Hope you are as cocky on Sept 2 as you are on this board. SP is a team with something to prove and nothing to lose. Gaisie will run all over them like he did last year right??? What did he get a whole 25 yeards on 12 carries, umm, maybe he'll stride for 30 this year. He'll get hit in the mouth and stop running. Its a new year boys with all the new kids at SP should be a very different story this year. Who won the lower level games last year?? You guys are in for a rude awakening.

JoMo may have been great playing in the MV league last year, but has he ever had a taste of what it is like to play a D1 program like Amat.?.........if in fact he is this good the last time I checked it was 11 on 11 not 1 on 11..........
Posted by: pjc | August 18, 2006 1:06 PM
One of you JoMo fans better provide updates on how he does this year at St. Paul.
Posted by: Aram | August 17, 2006 5:30 PM
Joe Morales has been loyal to sem since his brothers played in the 1990's. He was a water boy for years. As a freshmen, joe was asked to play varsity and he did. He has given s.e.m three years at the varsity level. As a big fan of his, Im not going to turn my back him. Im actually very proud of him for taking his destiny in to his own hands. This is good for the mvl league, he is going to show that we do have ballers that can play against top programs.
Posted by: MVLCHAMP | August 17, 2006 5:27 PM
True Joe did what was best for him...Joe has my total respect being one of his friends for the past 5 years...TEAR IT UP JOE
Posted by: louie | August 17, 2006 1:53 PM
Listen joe did not transfer from south because he was not loyal. He did it to make up classes so he can get eligible for the clearing house. He did not want what happen to all the guys from last year to happen to him. South had at least four guys that could play at the next level but did not have the classes. During dead week, joe held a two week camp for the freshmen at sem. I think he is more than loyal. It was a personal thing for joe, his dream has been to get a football scholarship, he did what was best for himself. He has friends at sem, but for now he is handleling his business. Nobody is walking in his shoes but him, so if you have not walked in his shoes don't judge him.
Posted by: morales44 | August 17, 2006 12:42 PM
Joe Morales has no loyalty! He couldnt win a MVL Championship last year and now he knows that South is back down to losing, so he transfers to a D3 school? No loyalty at all. Just like the so-called SEM "fans".
Posted by: ur worst knightmare | August 16, 2006 2:40 PM
DANG, its time! time to strap-up and seperate the men from the ladies. Sept. 1 at "The Pit", cannot wait. AMAT may be young, but they have the talent to walk over the "swordsmen"....Gaise is just going to run all over them and Wagner with McBride are just going to clean up the mess.
RIVARLY WEEK, BABY!!! gotta love it.....
Posted by: SGV Athlete | August 15, 2006 10:50 PM
Gaisie's not who Morales & St. Paul needs to worry about ! They won't have to try & catch anyone. Mcbride & Wagner will just run right thru them !!!! These guys run straight up the middle.
Come get some !!! THUNDER & LIGHTNING.
Posted by: caballero | August 15, 2006 8:29 PM
Hey pjc,
Make sure that it is not the Amat players who mess with Keifer Stadium and try to pin the blame on the Swordsman like they did a while back. Vandalism, flowers at midfield.. ask around those "tarnished halls" they'll tell you.
Posted by: CBE | August 15, 2006 5:38 PM
Joe - That's my bad. That was me. I did that. Like I said, not my first mistake - just like putting Sept. 2 as the date of the Week 0 games in yesterday's article when it's really Sept. 1. And it won't be my last. Great news, he's actually a senior this year. Viva Swordsmen! Not really.
Posted by: Aram | August 15, 2006 4:55 PM
Don't be surprised if Gano managed to hide a couple other key names in the mix. He does things like that. This is the same guy that wouldn't even let his fellow coaches know that Tao Alo was eligible to play until ten minutes before his first game.
Posted by: Jhykron | August 15, 2006 4:06 PM
First off Morales will need to catch Gaisie. That picture of the St. Paul coach with his team on the first day of practice looks like they replaced a ledgend with a Pop Warner coach....Amat is coming to play Sept 1st. and will embarass them on their homefield. Of course their students will come and screw with our campus during that week like they did last year. Looks like St. Paul had lots of kids that wanted out of that program this year but the school was going to make it hard on them to transfer. Amat will shine like they always do when it comes to playing St. Paul.....check the overall record....they are still way behind.
Posted by: pjc | August 15, 2006 4:05 PM
aram,I thought joe morales was a senior last yr it said it in the all area team last yr he was a senior unless its a different guy what gives, and two freshman on varsity there to young it really must mean los altos is not as deep as people think if your going with freshman ,good luck to those young men
Posted by: joe | August 15, 2006 3:49 PM
Hey can you post the top returners and newcomers I'd like to see what the teams have to offer...
