This week’s Tribune Top 10 …

This is one of those rare times where a loss isn’t costly …

1. West Covina (0-1) – I’ve seen six teams play thus far, and this is the most impressive.

2. Los Altos (2-0) – Offense will move on anyone.

3. Rowland (1-0) – Didn’t exactly set the world on fire against a solid Cal High team.

4. Charter Oak (0-1) – The next two weeks should be about getting street credit back.

5. Bishop Amat (1-1) – Season could go either way right now.

6. Damien (1-1) – Jury is still out on the defense, but it won’t be after the next three weeks.

7. Wilson (1-0) – When the ‘Cats are 5-0, the discussion will be about strength of schedule.

8. Glendora (1-0) – Strength of schedule really takes off after Duarte game.

9. South Hills (0-2) – Bogan will turn close losses into wins by November.

10. Covina (0-1) – Offense clearly needs a few games to get rolling.

Dropped out: Arroyo
Getting closer: Bonita

UNREAL: Loyola says no thanks to state bowl games …

This from the LA Times …

Los Angeles Loyola has become the first big-name football school to announce that it will not participate if invited to play in the CIF State Football Championship Bowl Games on Dec. 16 at Home Depot Center.

Chris O’Donnell, Loyola’s athletic director, said Monday that playing a 15th week of football would interfere with the school’s final exams, among other problems.

“It’s a meaningless game,” O’Donnell said. “High school kids will have played 14 games and will have been playing for four months, and I don’t know what the players and coaches will get out of it.”

Loyola won the Southern Section Division I championship last season and would be eligible for the Division II bowl game if it wins its conference championship.

State commissioners will meet Dec. 10 to select the three Southern California representatives and the three Northern California representatives to play in bowl games for large, medium and small schools. Schools must inform the CIF by the end of November whether they would participate in the first-ever bowl games. – Eric Sondheimer

The Weekly Aaron Harris Game … Week 2

You know it’s coming, but can you stop it?

This week’s OVER/UNDER is: 90 1/2 yards
This week’s opponent: West Covina

“UNDER” 230 was your winner last week. Maybe I was a little high in that number, but hey. Only three people said under last week. I’m sure many more will side with “the low” this week. Anyway, West Covina held Mater Dei running back Ahmed Mokhtar to 99 yards. That should make the Bulldogs a lock to keep Mr. Harris under 91, right?

SEASON RESULTS
Week 1: 133 yards vs. Azusa UNDER
