« You guys have got to see this ... | Main | Showdown Friday is coming ... Who's for real? Who isn't? »

POSTGAME: Cry me a river or talk your smack ...

Tell us what game you went to and what you thought ...

I was at Amat: Standing on the sideline, I heard the angry yells from fans. I don't know what to tell you all. You guys pack a stadium as good as any fan base I have seen and you deserve to be rewarded. I think that all Amat fans should remember the average age of the coaches on their staff. Not sure, but I don't think I saw anybody wearing a headset tonight who isn't my age (30) or younger. Right around that age group, for sure. Because this is the path the powers that be at Amat have chosen, there's going to be growing pains like there were tonight. I think that Coach Verti needs the support of the fans. It was told to me tonight that there are only THREE seniors starting on defense. The top running back was on crutches with his leg in a cast. The QB is in his first year under center. It's not like Verti was handed a stacked deck. And tonight, he was facing the Herrington Family, which when you're a rookie head coach, is a tough assignment. Yes, it was obvious who made the better adjustments at halftime. Amat was down 14-9 at the break and got the ball first in the second half, but the score late in the fourth was 39-9 ... mama said there'd be days like this. This is a young coaching staff and you have to give them time to be in the wars. Hart has been in the wars, as my man Rudy Ruiz put it not-so-eloquently tonight. Verti and staff are going to do fine. They're not in the best of situations right now, with the predicament of the team being what it is. The good news is that the frosh team is loaded and there are so many underclassmen getting their feet wet this year. I wouldn't be too hard on the coaches or the players THIS SEASON. They played the game out tonight and scored late for pride. I know, that's not a great sign when you're playing/coaching at Amat, but it is what it is.

Lest we forget that the last basketball coach, Ray Lokar, won a CIF Championship in his first year at Amat. And if I'm correct, he did not have a spring practice with the players or any prior association with the team. So you can be successful immediately if you know what you are doing! Being in your 1st year is no excuse - either you can coach NOW - or you can't.

Amatwillshine, you are correct, this is not Vertis first time with the offense so he knows the way things work. It's not like he walked off the street into the program. He knows the kids on the team so he has that advantage already and he should be using it. Trouble is, will he or does he blind himself simply because "he says so"?

BA 24/7, I'll take your word that you know about the seniors on the bench since I am not that familiar with them. I see only one soph producing out there and he is a saftey or a LB, I can't remember which. The soph that's starting at corner is getting burned most of the time, the opposition knows and is going after him. I still would like to see more players get into the game because going both ways doesn't give us a clue as to who can perform and can't show it, especially juniors if what you say is true.

BIG DHS,

I'm sure you wanted to say "Bruised lung" RIGHT? Not "Brocken Ribs and Punctured Lung". Being a MD,I can tell you there is a BIG difference. Nevertheless, a bruised lung is painful enough.

RY-FIzzLEs where do you get your information when you can make a statement like "with a QB who compains about a little smack here and there !!"
Have you personally heard him 'compains' (do you mean complains)? He never complains about little or big smack here and there - he did have broken ribs and a punctured lung during the St. John Bosco game - complain? No! He prayed....and his prayers and those of others were heard. There was no complaining and you will never hear him complain. He's too much of a "man" for that sissy stuff. Best you get your story straight before making up stories about someone you don't even know.

Anyone who watched Damien beat Claremont last week would agree that, despite the lopsided score, there is work to be done and certain areas that can be improved. For example, the 2 1st & goals for Damien. You could say Claremont found some pride and made some big stops. Or you could say you've gotta score when you've got 1st and goal. Room for improvement. If I recall, our running game could also improve. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20.

Improvement is what Frank Corona is about. I confess he made me crazy last year, but that's because I'm ignorant and he was way over my head with what he was saying. So yeah, maybe he can be perceived as a know-it-all, but it's knowledge, even expertise. He sees something, figures out the solution/correction and wants to share it.

And he's not talking for his own glory. He's all about the kids and helping them, teaching them to become better players by sharing his knowledge. Encouraging them. I've seen it.

And Zach is an outstanding gentleman, a good friend to my son and welcome at my home anytime.

"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Frank Corona knows a lot about football and cares even more so.

Thanks Frank, for all the help and support you've given my son. I invite you again to come to the games as my guest, and share your football insight. I'll be missing you until you do.

yeah yeah you spartins are taking all the hype right now but just wait till tonight.. you guys that you got it good.. ahah well we will see wat you guys got and how good of a team you guys really are with a QB who compains about a little smack here and there !! yeah castaneda may only be 5'7 so wat.. has your QB can close to braking a record ? so wat if you got guys that are 6'6 i bet ira will buck all those foos and lay a nasty hat on them. and rex foss come on now why you guys say that for you know you guys are going to get a new one ripped by foss !! but hey talk your smack and take the hype its going to matter in the game tonight !

Bleeds blue and gold..........First off this senior class of players are not that good and we are relying on out Juniors and Sophs......there are no Superstars here and the one we do have is Gaise and he is out.....sure there is Fletcher but he does allot of Talk the talk but does not walk the talk........our core really is Juniors.........what this says is next years team will be dynamite...........Carrillo is good but he is in no way going to lead us to a league or D1 title........The senior that is not bad is Escalera on the O-line..........look at these juniors that will be back...Austin (a friggin monster college recruit right now)...Ochoa, Silva , McBride, Wagner, Bonilla(this kid is good),Wells (very solid player), Mead, Stremple, not to mention that slew of Sophmore that we are trying to start right now......plus have you seen our Freshman QB......he has all the tools of the next great qb at Amat......I would not be surprised if he started over Tamayo next year.........next year is the year we will have a good crop of kids to play with our seniors....If no one has figured it out yet this years senior class of players is weak.........Dont blame Verti just yet.....if we lose next year with the team we are going to have then I can see the Verti bashers come out.......this is just one of those years....Castaneda is good but at what D6...where is he going to college Citrus or Mt. Sac for 13th grade.....he is 5'6?........Dont worry there are great things to come for Amat and I do agree we need to play more bench players because there is some good talent there even on the scout squads.....OUT!

BA 24/7, this is Verti's first year as HC, but not his first year running the offense. I am not going to give him a break when he chooses not to make necessary changes when necessary.

As for recruitment....Amat does indeed have the best connections. It is also up to the HC and other coaches to use their networking capabilities. I know first hand how it works. And I also know that coaches pick and choose who's names they want to put out there. HC's use players as a marketing tool for the school. If a good player does not get the support of his coach in regards to colleges looking at them, the player must do the work.

I will not accept anything less from Verti because nothing less is accepted from the players. Amat has a tremendous football tradition and our boys deserve the best.

At that time USC brought in Pete Carroll. What we are seeing is more like what happened when USC brought in Larry Smith. Unfortunately, it is going to get worse before it gets better That is probably across the board in all sports. You say, "We do schedule very tough teams because simply put WE ARE AMAT" . The basketball coach has done the opposite and scheduled an AWEFULL schedule just to get himself some wins. Where is the "Lancer Pride" there? Oh, that's right - he is a Swordsman, just like Monsignor. And that is where it all starts. Once a Swordsman -- always a Swordsman !

There sure is alot of bashing going on between the Damien parents. As for us at Amat we certainly have high expectations for our program simply because it is one of the best in the valley. But you do not see us beating each other up in public because as Lancers we stick together thru thick and thin. I also see things wrong with the program right now but we do need to give the coach a little more time than 3 games. If I need to vent I do it at the games sitting with my alumni buddies and have a good time with it because as it has been said before,"It is only a game." We do schedule very tough teams because simply put WE ARE AMAT and would not have it any other way. As John put it earlier step up we will take you on . I know it is a college program but remember what was going on at USC a few years back. Let's hope the same good fortune will happen at AMAT and we get this turned around.
Always a Lancer

BA 24/7, sure Vetri has a good mix of seniors and juniors with a few sophs thrown in, but what good is it when some of these guys are going both ways? It's the SAME GUYS on the field the whole game! Does this mean that he has nothing on the bench? There are over 60 players on the team. Out of these, there is NO ONE worth 2 cents to be on the field that he HAS to stick with the same guys?
I'll tell you what happens, you lose quality talent to other schools, the Castaneda Bros. come to mind and others I'm sure I don't know about. This will ALWAYS be my beef about Verti and any other coach in their system who plays the game this way. I feel sorry for the other kids who are probably just as good, or if not, pretty damn close if they are given half the chance but never get to show it. Nothing is more demoralizing to a player to be busting their ass out there all summer long just to wind up a spectator on the sideline. Sure not everyone is a starter or All League material but there a lot of kids on that sideline who can contribute given half the chance.
If they bomb out this year fine, Ill write it off as a first year experience. If the same crap happen next year and he's still playing this it the same way, the stands will not be too friendly for those home games believe me. The natives were restless during the Hart game and we've got 7 more to go. I don't mind losing to quality programs but I'll be damned if we will put up losing to inferior teams. Let's find out what happens tonight.

AmatwillSHINE.......Point well taken but success does not happen overnite. If the play calling is what is bothering you about Verti that is not what will make or break him as the coach at Amat. Everyone does not not come out of the starting gate fast and in Verti case and we are talking three games here he has stumbled so far. Everybody has their own style and this is his first year, he is a talented young man and given the time of 2-3 years more under his belt this program is going to be back on top again. Take a look at what pro coaches inherit (and I know this is pros) and it does take them 3-5 years max to get a program headed in the right direction same with college coaches. High school is no different. Business is no different. Managers come into dead beat companies and it takes about 5 years to really shape things up. The arguement here for lots of people is we will lose the area talent and they will go to LA SH WC etc. but this is D-1 and parents out there know if they have a talented big kid his exposer is allot higher at Amat for college coaches to come see. Like I said earlier Amat is on the map as a D1 and parents want their kids to come here. Cornell and Bennet were from Azusa. they come to Amat and now look where they are playing.....Verti also has a lot of connections coming from his playing days at UCLA that if he has a special kid he will call the recruiters to come take a look at them. Amat will always get the area talent and exposer and that is what troubles the Anti-Amat people...AmatwillSHINE hang in there it will get better if not this season next season. Lets not be impatient or become a turncoat with Verti and dont give up so easy. We will be back!.....Those assistant coaches I do question their ability but not Verti's.....All Verti has to do is get more experience and some good quality mature coaches around him....Like a President you must put good men around you to make you successful..........Verti will find his way........3 games and people want his head on a platter......3 years of losing then we will can all want his head on a platter.....everyone needs a chance to prove themselves...........I am sure in life not everything went smooth for everyone we all needed time to get there......Amat 24 Rancho Cucamonga 17...OUT!

I've had the chance to read many of these blogs and it seems there is alot of bashing going on. Sure progams like Amat,Charter Oak,Damien,South Hills and a few others are rich in tradition and have given us many years of enjoyment on friday nights. Ladies and Gentlemen lets not loose the perspective that this is still youth football. These young men step on the field on Friday nights risking life and limb for a few hours of your enjoyment. They do it for the love of the game with dreams of moving on to a university or maybe even a pro career. I have yet to see a high school football player sign a million dollar contract. As for the coaches be it Bogan,Gano,Farrar or a host of others. These men work long hours for a little pay and do a damn good job of taking care of our kids and teaching them lessons on life. A lot of times these coaches pickup where we as parents come up short. So quit your _itching moaning and groaning and go watch a high school game. Springsteen said it best. These are their "Glory Days" and all these young men will be talking about their accomplismments and misfortunes at the 20,30 and 40th reunions. And remember folks our high school ball players read these blogs as well.
Now for my two cents on South Hills and its present 0-3 start. South Hills-Los Altos one of the best second halfs I've ever seen. Two well coached teams fighting down to the final seconds. Lost by 1 point. You knew it was going to be a great game. South Hills-Trabuco Hills a few less mistakes and one or two more defensive stands and South Hills would have come out on top. A loss by only 3 points. South Hills-La Habra Hey things happen! Our kids had a bad night but it was a very physical game on both sides of the ball. South Hills-Claremont should be a great game come out and see
I know a lot of people talk about their schools being in a rebuilding year. I can tell you that in South Hills case that is true. They are very young and will be a force to recon with the next 4 years in the valley.Varsity has at least three Sophmores now going both ways. Remeber these names you'll be hearing them a lot the next couple of years Evan Herd TB/FS Wayne Goss FB/CB and Chris Bowden MLB/FB/TE Keep an eye out for these kids. They have some great talent coming up as Juniors and Sophmores and the Freshman team under Brian Johnson is looking really good again this year.
In closing if you think you can do a better job than the men who prowl the sidelines, pickup a clipboard and a whistle and go to work just dont complain about the long hours, meanial pay and _itching parents

Come on BA24/7...I can appreciate your opinion to a point since you are a true Amat fan, but please give me a break. You know good and well that Verti is not "D1 head coach material". As I have said in my past posts, last year I thought it was all Coach D until I found out for myself first hand that Verti was the one making all the offensive decisions. With all the talent on last years offense, he consciously did not make the necessary changes nor listened to the other coaches when they made suggestions. Now this year he is the head coach and we see the same thing on the field, only worse. I can understand that Amat does not have as much talent this year, but the decision making is still the same. There are other players who would love to have the opportunity to try to prove that they can fill in where needed, but Verti will not give them a chance.

What A Joke: You're rightfully named. Los Altos 38 - Damien 0? A fan missing from the grandstand doesn't make or break a team. Football is not a popularity contest. It's the hard, concentrated work of the 11 boys on the field, the coaching staff brains and refs who call a good game that shows the final score on the board. May the better team of the game win Friday night.

Gaisie is out until league play. And he's not the only Amat injury issue.

Aram: For months I have been reading your POSTGAME blogs written by many. Today, 9/22, I got caught up and was amazed and actually upset at how so-called adults can bash each other and think it is okay to publish it on the POSTGAME blog. How embarrassing for the students, schools involved and parents of the innocent. Come on dads, grow up! Be a role-model for your sons.

gaisie is still on crutches.

Gaisie's fine. don't worry

WHATS GOING ON WITH GAISIEEEEEE?!?!?!?!

It has been awhile since I have Blogged due to this blog now being a witch hunt for our coaches at Amat. Yes I do agree changes need to be made to the defense as well as finding some offense that can score points without Gaise in the lineup........I just would like to see our coaches get a fair shake and give them the whole season and not three games to prove themselfs, after which we can get on this blog and tear them a new one if this team fails or praise them if they make the playoffs.......the jury is still out on this staff and yes everyone has a valid point from their youth as coaches, to, did Monsignor make the right choice, to, are we playing our best talent in the right places. It will all come out at the end of the season. I do agree that some of our players read our opinions and some have even come on here or still do, but as Amat loyalist we need to be patient and stop bashing the football program and the Monsignor and stay focused on what is at hand, which is 7 more games of either a winning season or a losing season. If we go 1-5 in non league but go 2-1 in league and get in the playoffs bottom line will be we still made the playoffs and that is not bad for a new coach and a transition year not to mention not that much talent coming from the seniors on the team....If we fail and go 1-9 and stink up the season then yes Coaching adjustments must be made but not with Verti. I am sure he will learn as well, that he needs to bring in older more experienced coaches to help his winnings and future as the head guy. Most of our talent is lying in the Juniors and sophmores presently on the team, not to menton some very talented JV and freshman talent that will blend with these juniors for next year....We will have a very talented and great team next year....If our season is down the toilet and Coach Verti will know when that time is, he, I know will start looking and planning next year during this season.....Hang on Amat fans and all the Amat bashers.. this is not something that will last with Amat if they are losers this year....Just one of those years, but this is Amat and they will be back if not this year then next year but this is not going to be a consistent losing program. Kids from all over will still flock to our school because it is and will remain a very popular football school. It is on the map for good and will continue its winning tradition......keep it positive Amat faithful it could be just one of those years........OUT!

Wow here we go again "AMAT FANS" stirring up a frenzy at the first sign of adversity.I thought we were taught to fight thru adversity and find a way to win. It is this same way of thinking that has killed us for years. Do you honestly think that a coach was going to walk into AMAT and change the entire program in one year. By all of these negative comments you have taught the players (yet again) not to trust their coaches. As much as I hate to agree with the CO guy, he's right......Ripping the coaches on the internet for all the players to see undermines the entire program....I challenge the players to really take a deep look at themselves and ask, AM I SELLING OUT AND LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FIELD? I'm sure there has been coaching mistakes but the effort does not appear to be a consistent 110%....We need to stop looking for excuses and start holding everyone a little responsible(including the bloggers). As a former Lancer, I challenge the players to dig deep and find a way to win.....I also challenge the coaches to look passed these last weeks and prepare the kids for what counts RANCHO.....Finally parents, fans, and alumni don't be fair weather fans, post positives......Save the critiques for the end of the season.....GO DAWGS!

WOW, there is some hatred at Damien. This can not be good for the boys in question. Personal vandetas should not be hashed out in the blogs. Let the boys have fun and play.

Lets stay on the topic of the football in the San Gabriel Valley.

Lets get back to Amat, any word on Gaise and has anyone found out what happened to that D-Line player from last year?? The kid that transferred if from Montebello.. He was a big body and a monster on the line.

As for the youth at Amat, yeah there is some big ones in the lower classes and we need to keep them. As long as parents do not get disallusioned about the Amat mystique and take their kids out we will be fine for the future. And yeah we have all been giving Verti hell, that comes with the territory of being the head coach of one of the most powerfull programs in the valley. I still say there are some things that he can do to the coaching staff by adding a coach here or there with experience. It is good that they are enthusiastic but enthusiasm only goes so far.

Another tough one for the Lancers this week. It seems week in and out it is another tough school, thats why they are talked about so much. Like it or not, no one playes a tougher schedule in the SGV than Amat. Teams are making their schedules for next year so step up and come at us.

Maybe Father Travers needs to intervene and put a stop to this very disturbing parental display. Aram you should adhere to your promise and monitor all this malicious garbage! It's simple just press DELETE and give this site back to the students and parents who want to be supportive. Erasing the past garbage will not make the hurt feelings go away at Damien but at least it will be the first step in our healing process. Praying you do the right thing.

OK, we've gotten way off topic on this thread. I apologize to those of you who are sour with me for letting it get this crazy, but honestly, maintaining this blog is one of several duties I have on a daily basis and reading thru many of these comments is very time consuming. PLEASE, try to stick to the topics.

http://www.sgvtribune.com/preps/ci_4371951

Okay, that's just weird. Is the blog commenting suddenly causing stories to churn out?

Hey to all you parents who think they are still playing..get over it..this is your childs life not yours....stop living through them..oh and aram the kid over at covina had 3 touchdown passes last week not 2...he is legit

Aram,

I for one will not ever post (after this posting)again on this blog due to the intense personal and relentless "name calling" and "ousting" of posters.

It's truly ashame that certain individuals find it necessary to attack other blogers for thier views. After all, isn't the sharing of views what bloging is all about?

It's really a shame because, Aram, you have done a great job with this blog and, I'm certain it's conceptual purpose was to provide a prep sports forum; not a device to spew personal hatred towards individuals and/or posters. Give me a break! Adults sometimes need to grow up.

Good luck in managing this mess which this has recently become. Advice: Be more cautious in allowing postings which are pure and simple personal attacks towards other posters. Let's stay on subject.

Smell of blood in the water.

I came for the kids Christian education and that's it--- Mr. Eddie Gomez and ALLDADS!!! Or whatever other alias your simple mind can come up with!

I post because it's a blog see you're posting as well. They outlawed stoning in public but not @ Damien. What is it with the coaching job? Move on. Talking about not having a life! Move on. Kissing a coach's ass? Move on. I haven't talked to ANY JV coaches since the kids got the pads! ASK THEM ! Move on!

Throwing kids under the train? Do you KNOW my kids? Move on. What kind of screwed up poor excuse for a man are you. Move on.

Truth is-- at this point what is it?

You call yourselves Christain Catholics? Sound more like hypocrites! Every other Public school has had dad's commenting DAILY, lifeless dads I'm sure, but daily blog messages. Amat has daily blogs from Blu, or others- It's a blog! It not a GET A LIFE BLOG! It's like Talk radio- without the radio! Move on.

My God what is it with these Damien dads? 99.999% are decent and polite but hell - harping on my kids! Most of you know Zachary and Matthew do they deserve this no matter how annoying you believe I am? Really THEY deserve this?

What's the point? To what end? Until they come home and WANT to leave? I've heard of scarlet letters but this is way overboard. Would that make you happy? You have been on my ass for a while, long enough don't you think? Yet I came clean and said who I was. Aram and other's asked "us" to chill out and still the BS. Leave my kids out of it if you KNOW them then you know they don't deserve this. In your mind maybe I do but do they, really?

My kids will leave Damien when Zachary graduates or wants to leave. Plain and simple. He'll play whatever sport and join whatever club he wishes. Whether you god dam like it or not! He's the nicest kid and you acknowledged that but you still have to embarass him, opps I'm embarassing him but you're doing what, standing by innocently? Talk about getting a life!

Kick another rock and MOVE ON! Deal with it, Mr. Eddie Gomez and who ever else feels the need to cleanse their palet with my kids, that's unforgiveable!

Your son know it's you, Gomez, that's going up side my head? My son, Zachary, doesn't know anything about this or you and I intend to keep it that way. He has a great "soul", apparently in spite of me, and loves his friends at Damien. He plays football to make friends. He is the quentissential "gentle man."

You can ask Coach Jan, Coach Eric,Coach Fred, Coach Pucci, Coach Hernandez, Coach Thompson, Coach Brewster, Coach Aaron any coach at Damien if I EVER kissed their ass (your words) or Talked to them about Zachary's playing time. IN TWO YEARS!!
What more do you want from Zachary--He'll hand over his pads to you if that'll make you happy. Anyone else want my son's jersey? How about his cleats? Anyone want his cleats? How about his sense of just being one of the other happy go lucky Damien Kids ? Anyone want to take that from him as well. Matthew knows about this and said it best, "Well, whata you gonna do? What's for dinner?" MOVE ON.

Making the sons pay for the sins of the father is unredeemable! I read that somewhere.

How pathetic is it that in a Catholic Community like Damien only one parent wrote that the blogger (Mr. Gomez) should leave my kids out of it! One! Misjudged that one! Best wishes to the E. family you have always made me feel welcomed, hope I helped more than I hurt. Seen and heard the last of me @ Damien. Matthew and Zachary, however, will graduate from Damien because that's their choice! Inspite of Mr. Gomez and his anonymous stoners! Leave the rock on the floor it's over. MOVE ON!!!! I HAVE.

Anti-

I wasn't taking your statement as an attack on him, I just wanted to straighten the record about Fair at Wilson. Let's put it this way, the year before he got all his transfers from Amat, the guy who succeeded Fair went 2-7-1 with a team that was 10-0 as Freshmen and 9-1 as Sophmores.

As for recognition, I'm pretty sure he doesn't look for it anymore. That's why he hasn't gone after any other head coaching positions (despite being offered at least one)... he enjoys being the master tactician and teaching the kids to play football, but detests dealing with parents, administrators, boosters, and other "PR" work. So being paired up with Gano (who himself has a knack for that sort of thing, and has called a pretty mean offense in some big games to boot) is somewhat ideal.

Should be interesting to see what he does against Damien this week... it's one of the games last year that he takes the blame for and would like to have back (the 3 lineman defense he tried to accomidate for his lack of defensive ends blew up in his face that week).

Jhykron,
My bad man, i think i came off wrong there with my statement of Fair. What i was trying to say was now, since him and Gano have paired up at LA, i do not think he gets enough recognition. I know, I know the heat goes to the head coach when there losing and the accolades to the head coach when their winning. But fair should in fact be rocognized. Some would say around LA that he is kinda the "man behind the wonderful wizard of OZ"...
My best memory of Fair was that masterful job he did in the '03 championship against Orange Lutheran. That team was averaging around 40-45 points a game and he held them to 17 in that game. Yes he had talent, but so did Lutheran that year, and to hold that offense with its shifts and motions and misdirection to only 17 points was awesome. (LA won 21-17)
again, just my 2 cents....

Mr. Corona,

The amount of time you waste on "coaching" us is funny to say the least. You claim to have a life, yet from what my kids say, you post on here nightly. I had to check you out for myself after meeting you after a Freshman practice last year. I'm surprised we all fit in your world next to your ego. I just have one question for you...if your so disgruntled about Damien, why is your son still here? You know no matter how much you try you will never get a job here. Move on with your son and take over another Home Stand where you can bark and fart and point and dismantle every play and every coach. At the end of the day sir, it just sound like bitter grapes. As for being asked by Thompson to coach, need we look any further at what type of coach you could possibly be. I mean we all saw how much butt kissing it took for you to get in his graces (and your kid still didn't play) but boy, your lips must be sore. Enjoy the rest of your season, at least your son has a uniform.

Anyone know what's going on with Gaisie?

Aram,

Despite the negative comments about Amat, there are some players who deserve your attention for the future. You mentioned in your earlier comments that you like to give exposure to area players. Amat does have JR.'s who have made an impact so far. Jr. 5-11 Wr/CB D. Wells stands out first and he will be one of the top players in the area in the future. Jr's TE/DE #81 J. Silva and OT/DT #79 D.Austin are two way players who deserve some credit and some attention for the next two years. #79 6-5 D.Austin impact on the team has gone unnoticed because of his position as a linemen. Also, keep an eye of Jr OT 6-4 #65 S.Ochoa who has done a solid job which has kept Amat's running game alive.

I will continue to support the Amat program and support any player in the area from other teams who have a chance to get an education by playing football in college. The entire SGV will get some Respect. Keep the scouts in the area!

Dude Mills, I'm a Lancer, an old one but a Lancer. And I find that Aram is pretty neutral and calls the shots as he sees them. I mean, the journo (got this word from Green Street Hooligans!) straight up said that he would be shocked if Amat beat Valencia. "Shocked? WUT HE MEAN SHOCKED!?" I cursed into the heavens with fist of fire! BUT...WELL...he was right! Amat got nuked and so did my heart. And I did hate Aram for 24 hours. But then I got over it and we be cool now. (*adds unscented clear liquid poison to Aram's bowl of dates*) So Mr. Mills...you be cool too and dont be a foo. Cill! DA Cougars!

Bluorca, what does the times know?

What I know is that it is going to be an uphill battle for the Lancers. However, if there is a team with heart and dedication, it is the Lancer squad (now only if we could get a defense to go with the heart and dedication).

Once again, if The coaching staff does not panic and continues to build each week, the team will be just fine. Keep hope alive! And a few advils would not hurt either.

I'm sure you'll find many Amat supporters who disagree with that statement.

Aram, why do you protect Amat at all costs? For being a journalist, you sure do appear to be one-sided.

Anti,

Keep in mind, it's amazing how smart a coach can look when he has talent, and how dumb he looks when he has almost nothing to work with. Fair managed to get to the playoffs with those "horrible" teams, which was an accomplishment in and of itself.

hey John & Jenny Craig,
seems you two have the Los Altos background and info to weigh in on this, but i do in fact hear a huge reason for the success of LA and Gano is the fact he has a stellar defensive coordinator over there in Lee Fair. Now i am not taking anything away from Gano, but would you give some of the credit to Fair? Im not even sure opf that one, because from what i can recall Fair use to coach at HH Wilson in the early 90's, and from what i remember, they were horrible.
Just looking for some input, if any....
Thanks...

Funny how people use the same phrases over and over. So many times in fact that when we hear them we immediately remember just them. Like Mr. Corona from an adult? Mr. Silva mentions that to me all the time- call me Steve! My name is Steve! lol The only adult that calls me Mr. Corona is an employee and one other person- Wouldn't you know it, he also uses the phrase, "Knows absolutely nothing about football", knows first hand the workings @ AMAT, (Posted 9/16/2006 4:43 pm) see you responded to DHS Dad before you knew it was me, funny your Number's on my cell phone, your son worked out with S., and you always talked about Amat this way, "they're NUTS, The people there are never satisfied. The program is run down. They'll only hire a young guy because no one would want that job! Because they're NUT CASES" Is that why you left? Clubbing me with Matt and Zac is low! Even for you. I don't remember ever saying any thing bad about your son.

Tendencies, tendencies, tendencies see we all have them. Coaches exploit them, you coached once right?
See what gave you away was the unemployment comment where did that come from?. See no one else at Damien is unemployed, homeboy! See you just popped into my head without having to think about you! By the way, you still a statistic? See people in IOWA don't know what a NANA is but people in LP do!

It's all in good fun guys. Good luck against CO!

Hey X S H PLAYA
Its nice to see someone here who see's it as it is. Keep it up !

Hey,hey, hey easy there Jeff before some "Bagpiper" who doesn't have a sense of humor goes Chernobyl on you about the dress comments.
There Kilts, Laddie....Kilts not dresses. Nice dig though!
Good Night Now!!!!

Answer Man,

I think that most of us know what a Tartan is. I just love the question, "What is a Tartan?" because Glendora people have to face up to the fact that their mascot is a plaid dress. :)

Good luck against CO this week! I hope you give them hell!

Answer Man.........that was Clutch! Who Knew?

TY Corona! If there's anything that Amat grads have trouble doing is shutting up! haha! And yeah! That whole body paint thing did not come out the way I intended it to! LOL!

I think we will definitely see how Amat's program is really doing this year within the next few weeks. I dont know if anyone knows this but Rancho Cucamonga is playing Amat this week and then West Covina the next. They are also playing South Hills and Claremont later in the year. Los Altos and Amat have a common opponent in St. Francis this year as well. I think the results of these games will paint a perfect picture on exactly where Amat stands and where Amat should be rated in the Valley. Believe me, EVERYONE at Amat and the rest of the Valley is going to watch these games very carefully. Because of this, the Amat/Rancho Cucamonga game is a HUGE deal! And from what I've heard, Rancho is no pushover school. And Amat fans, if Amat loses any of these games and the other Valley teams beat the same team, we will never hear the end of it! Oh well, let them eat their cake if this happens. I know this is a tough year for the Amat program. I believe now that Coach Verti is probably more concerned and excited about the next 2 years which is why he's starting so many underclassmen. I just hope he's not using this year as a "preseason" for the next. And I know that if any Valley team could beat Amat it probably would have been this year but I HATE THE TASTE OF HUMBLE PIE!!!

*sigh* Crespi (LAT #18) got more scary last week. They lost by only 2 pts to Corono Centennial. Centennial managed to beat Shane Vereen and Valencia. Given this new info, I would say that Amat is the underdog vs. Crespi.

As far as the playoffs are concerned, and according to the LAT, 13 out of the top 25 schools are from the Pac-5...YIKES! OVER HALF!!! These include 3 from Amat's League!...Crespi (#18), Loyola (#24 after loss to #20 Venice), and last but not least, Notre Dame (#6). Carson is tied w/ Crespi at the #18 spot. St. Francis has been sort of a sleeping giant as well.

I have my ibuprofen ready....Bring it on!!!

Aram,
All I have to say about lil' sisters comment to you about "Cardinal Roger's Mafia Family" at Amat......................SMACK! Nice sis, keeping the scribe in check!!!

Can't we all get along!! And, if not, how about discussing your differences via email vs posting on this prep sports blog... the kids don't need to hear your garbage!

I'm not taking anything wrong about Greg. I know you didn't mean any harm. I was just trying to clear up some info. for you. Greg might have been mentioned. He was coaching at Northview at the time. The talk around campus was the Rick Freeze or Ray Dean was going to get the job because they had been around for so long. People on campus were very surprised when Gano got the job. I believe that he would do a good job at whatever school or level of competition he was competing at because he is a winner.

To the parent who speaks for all of us. You don't speak for me or my husband. You should be ashamed of yourself! You may not like Frank personally but the vile you spewed is reprehensible, disgusting and unfair to his sons Zachary and Matt. How can you call yourself a Christian and behave in such a deplorable and disgusting manner. Think before you write and try speaking for yourself. Frank is our friend and so are you, remember that.

Thats too bad Aram. ...But if you cannot be turned to the Dark Side then perhaps your sister will! Muahahahaha! Regardless...We still want our free brew!!!

bluorca,

I hear you, not sure if he has the guts to come out of the closet (hahaha)

Aram, come on out to the blue side.

Aram
You are absolutely right! With friends like that who needs enemies? lol Great blog, hope you enjoy the AMAT initiation. But I have one question ? Why does the the blue/gold paint need to be edible? LMAO Didn't think about that did you Bluorca? LOL
ARAM: If you make a list of best bloggers Bluorca would be #1. He always has something to say that I enjoy reading and usually ends it with "Come on over to AMAT, we'll be waiting for you" lines. He gives credit where credit is due and knows how to disagree. Great passion for AMAT/Football and knows what he's talking about, Mike's #2 because he knows the deal and loves GT, even if he's a clone, lol For me the pissing contest is over- thanks for the pulpit!

Aram, Welcome to the Family. You look good in Blue and Gold.

As for Amat this year, if coach Verti does not panic, the team should be ok. I think some of you have forgotten one thing, Amat only needs to win two games this year to get into the playoffs. With the new league only having 4 teams, 2 wins and your in. Amat will beat Loyola again, and handle Crespi. Amat will have an up hill battle in the playoffs however, it will still be a good season as well as developing the players for next season. Heck, if Amat can post a 3 win season, they will be league champs.

Yes, you are right, I hate the new league. Maybe damien or St. Paul will step up and join the league. On second thought, neither of those schools has the "footBALLS" to come to D1 with the big boys.

Lastely, Amat does not want Gano. Gano does not have the stomach or heart for D1 football. He too looks up to the Amat program. Always has and Always will.

Bluorca and all Amat honks:

Here's a conversation I had with my sister Liz while driving home late on Friday night

Liz: What game did you cover?
Aram: Bishop Amat vs. Hart.
Liz: Did Amat win?
Aram: No, they got killed.
Liz: I'm sorry, bro.
Aram: Why are you sorry?
Liz: Because I thought Amat is your team.
Aram: What are you talking about? I don't have a team.
Liz: Yeah, but you always cover Amat.
Aram: I am not going to hear this from you, too.
Liz: I'm sorry, I just thought you liked that team.

Unreal, I get it from my sister!
About joining the Amat family - not gonna happen. But due to the big and well deserved coverage the girls hoops team gets in the Trib, guys at the office have said there's got to a a Touchdown Aram statue somewhere at Amat.

Mr. Corona and friends - you guys are getting off topic. Chill out.

Couldn't leave it alone could you? Man, how insecure are you? Maybe I'll go to a practice this week or a game and watch you play the part, come up to me and say something clever like, "Man, Frank did you read the post thing? I hope you find out who said those horrible things. If you need aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyyyy help, I'll do what I can." And then you'll giggle like you hit the lotto. Seems to me you've spent alot of time near me to hear me talk sooooooo much, why? Seriuosly...why?

I HEAR YA JOHN!!! And if Aram does indeed want in on the Amat Family that he must first be dipped head first in Royal Blue/Gold swirled edible body paint, dressed in a genuine suit of armor complete with a heavy lance, and mounted on top of a white battle horse. He then must ride 4 complete laps around Kiefer Stadium right before a game to the cheers of the Amat faithful. And then comes the most crucial part of Aram's initiation...he then must buy all of us Amat bloggers a beer! It must be imported and at least 32oz in size. Only then will he be deemed worthy!
To our other boys in blue...Way To Go Dodgers!!!!

WOW,
And yet another alias! Some guys, usually the drunk at the end of the bar, never know when to stop. And arguing with a drunk is about what this is becoming. Posting LA 38 Damien 0, nice try smells like fear.I'll just follow the piss trail you're leaving. Get a job, unemployment has given you too much free time. Never seen Freddie Brown play, never seen Ian Johnson play and Turner never talked to the WP advocate. As far as I see being an ass is what you do best. Now go change your pants before hanging out at practice I think I smell crap!

There is no disrespect towards Gano, he has done a great job, you are taking it all wrong. He was a coach with experience and it showed from the start. Gongrats to him on the 100 win milestone. This is a milestone that all coaches and schools want from their coach. And he was mentioned for the job ahead of time!!!!

I just wish Amat was able to lure him away, he would have been a great fit and it would have been interesting to see how he handled the D-1 competition.

Here is one definition of a Tartan from www.tartans.scotland.net:

Tartans have become synonymous with Scotland and Scottish clans and families in particular. However, tartans were originally a style of cloth intended to be decorative. They had patterns that were popular within certain districts of manufacture, they relied on a limited range of colour dyes and were made of the local coarser type of wool.

This has lead to the idea of district tartans being the original association, between the land, the community and its cloth. Where there was a strong clan within a district, as was often the case in the highlands, then visitors from other areas might well have been recognised as of a clan from their tartan. This must have been true of visitors from the Western Isles, for instance. It is this concept of clan tartans that today predominates, but the use of tartan is yet richer.

When tartan was proscribed by law, the Government or Black Watch pattern was the only legally one. This was used by the regiments raised within Scotland, forming the basis of the regimental tartans.

By the early 1800s, it was realised that the knowledge of tartans before the ยด45 was being lost and, simultaneously, there was a romantic movement concerning Scotland's past. This lead to institutional and individual efforts to preserve tartan designs. Tartans were reconstructed from portraits, collected on pilgrimages, demanded from clan chiefs and recovered from weaver's notes.

Tartans became a backdrop. The weaving and tailoring industries were especially boosted by the visit to Edinburgh of George IV in 1822 and by Sir Walter Scott's statement, as the visit's manager, "Let every man wear his tartan". Queen Victoria gave considerable encouragement thereafter, though this encouraged both fantasy and fact in the study of tartan. (Some royal tartans remain the preserve of the House of Windsor or individual titles within it, just as clan chiefs sometimes have a chief's tartan.)

The significance of tartan as national dress, worn under various circumstances, created clan tartans for every "name", even those that previously had none. These were often supplemented by hunting tartans of subdued character and dress tartans which were brighter.

Further variety was added by fashion, fancy or trade tartans to fill any niche, including various colours of a single pattern. Dancing Tartans originate from the ARISAID or Dress Tartans. There were even some mourning tartans developed.

In recent years the corporate tartans have become popular where an institution or company adopts a tartan design for livery and use in merchandising.

Where no clan tartan exists, families can and have developed new Family Tartans. Generally which tartan is worn is controlled by convention there not being a statute for its government. Disputes as to its use and production rely on the civil law of Copyright, Design Act and in rare cases Patents/Trademarks.

Manufacturers often offer a given tartan design in a variety of colour effects, called Modern, Reproduction, Ancient and the like. An ancient and a modern tartan is often the same pattern and should not be confused when the design is being considered.

Ian Johnson, Freddie Brown, Tristan Turner and all other Damien athletes would like to thank Mr Corona for getting them where they are today, despite their coaches.
The back to back CIF soccer team would also like to thank him for helping them win despite their coaches.
It is too bad that hard work by all of the athletes mentioned didn't matter, just the guy who did everything for them, despite their coaches.
Can you imagine if a real coach came on here and posted what he has done for every kid he has ever worked with?

Prediction for this week:
Los Altos 38
Damien 0
Without our leader in the stands we have no chance.

Gano was NOT a sure thing to get that job back in 1995. there were two on staff coaches that left because they didn't get the job. Gano came out of left field to get that job. He has done a great job, but many people were not happy when he got that job. Just clearly up mis-stated facts. Greg has done a GREAT job at LA.

bluorca, amatwillshine, bleedsblue, luvthisgame, sdlancer, amat pal, Coach Verti and staff

We are all family, and I think Aram is getting a taste of the family and I think he wants in the family!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the blogs, keep it up. As for Charter Oak and Damien being the top teams in the valley. Why did they cancel their contracts with Amat this year. The answer, Butt Kicking two years in a row.

Some do not realize that Amat has such a tradition that excellence is required and we are the only D-1 school in the valley and year after year we go after some of the top teams in the state, who else in the valley can say that. IF YOUR SON IS A JAA OR POP WARNER STUD LOOK AT ALL THE TEAMS IN THE VALLEY AND MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION. You must ask yourself, where will my son get the most exposure, look at the list of Lancers playing college ball and look at the rest, No comparisson. Some schools may have a kid here or there and they ride the coat tail of that one or two, we don't, our record speaks for itself.

Amat alumni and boosters wear their hearts and emotions on our sleeves, that is why we are so critical and voice our opinions the way they do. Some may be opinions and some may be factual. THE ONE FACT THAT STANDS OUT, WE ARE FAMILY. If you look at the blogs, after the bashing comes the encouragement geared toward the team and that is a given

Aram,
The door is open, if you want in the family come on in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lancers, Work hard and give 110%, whatever you hear in the stands is not geared towards you. Coach Verti and staff, pick it up, you are the coaches of the top program in the valley and that can be disputed only if the other schools step up and knock you off ( this has not been done). I do not care what the polls say even in a down year Amat is still top. As for W. Covina standing up to Mater Dei, great job going after them. But we must remember that is the same team that Amat spanked last year. Now stand up against Amat and make it happen. As for a game with the local power houses of W. Covina and LA, I say it again it would be great for the valley as well as any high school football fan. Lets make it happen.

Anti17,

Thanks for clearing that up, I do remember when he got the job that he was in the waiting for it for a while and he was waiting for DeSpain to step down, it was agiven that he would get the job.

GetReal- the beauty in hiding behind a name is that people can't tell you you don't speak for them. Or call you on anything you've said to them that paints you in a less than positive light. Sooner or later you'll brag to someone that you put me in my place, hope it isn't someone who's kid I helped. Or if you're a hypocrite and worked out over the summer with us or tried to schedule a workout with Surge. You use "we" alot. All that tells me is that you're a coward. You talk alot about the fact that "I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL" which tells me you NEVER played football. Boy that whispering nana statement really got under YOUR maternal skin. And I wasn't talking about you? Been called a NANA before? Maybe in school? How about a friendly game of ping pong? I've got the paddles if you've got the balls, for real...dogg!( Do adults use the word Dogg) I KNOW you felt that! woof woof

Thanks for coming clean. You're an ACE! At least I know you're honest. Now that you've shown me up, maybe you can move on to the other idiots at the other schools. Hiding? Where? I told you who I was, what I said and why I said it. If you don't like that so what- As far as being a tough guy really who's the alias now. I'm not embarrassed by a single thing I said on this site. As far as the stands I haven't sat in the stands for a JV game all year! Name One! Not Poly, SJB, Claremont so when have I annoyed you LIAR. I been to three Varsity games this year twice I sat with my family and once with the Eschardise Family. Again I did not talk to you or anyone else LIAR! I haven't talked to you this whole year! Not once! I talk to Steve Silva and the Carbajals. Last year I said my peace and Zachary paid the price for that. After Coach Thompson asked Morrison to hire me Zachary did not play more than 3 plays a game even in blowouts after starting on Saturdays. That's the beauty of this site. When you figure out who's saying what (remember they're ALL alias, even YOU) and you don't agree with them slam them into silence. I can take it as well as I can dish it out, and if talking to the parents is a pain to you I won't. As far as embarassing myself that's not your problem. As far as embarrassing my kids , YOU wouldn't do that would you because no Damien kids read this from this BLOG, right? Whispering NANA is someone who talks behind someone's back and never tells someone to their face (for Clarification) to solve a problem. It's not being tough(physically) it's being decent. I think you qualify. The only parents I've talked to this year from the JV team are Gomez,Serafinco, Talmo, Reyes, Reyes, Cychner, Silva, Carbajal, Gus's dad and Odom-That's it! But not you. LIAR! Because you wouldn't just stand there and listen to an IDIOT would you? You would do the decent thing and ask me to shut up or get up and move! I talked to no other JV parents and certainly not in the stands this year! You GD LIAR!

Last year the Damien JV Basketball Coach Phillips called the kids effort during practice and games ,"FAG, GAY, HOMO, and QUEER!" Should I have said something? I did I told Coach Dunn. His response, "Mr. Corona I know I heard him myself and for the life of me I don't know why that did not register as wrong." Is that not something? Bet you can't believe that happens @ Damien. When I say Damien has to get it's act together it comes from fustration and love for my kids. Coaches fighting, quiting or calling players FAG or QUEER- is what happened last year at Damien.

As far as helping kids, I helped get Travis E. and Luentin a trainer all summer. Three and four times a week. In 100 heat @ Damien and Bonita. Remenber it was the hottest summer on record! We worked Sunday's as well. That trainer came as a personal favor to me, even though he was recovering from three heart procedures. Two and three hour sessions in the heat.He came just for Zachary but I would sneak in a couple of extra kids for free. Notice how much faster Travis E. is? From a 5.2 to 4.8 in the 40, in one summer! Took him to Compton College to workout with my brother (Defensive coordinator ) to see if there were things he could do to improve to help him get a scholarship, which he will get! Took Luetin to two camps, where coaches drooled over his size/speed (LBCC and San Diego State). Worked with both Duffy brothers for months to help with their speed and confidence. Helped Silva with his speed, quicknes and base. We worked with Dominic Carbajal, Alex Gomez and Odom and others for speed, quickness, balance. Sometimes I'd throw the football to teach them how to break on a ball. Again because no one taught them that last year. Brian Gomez also worked with a LB coach (my brother)who I asked to help out. Last year my other brother(QB coach St Monica) came down to work with Kenny Serafinco and Brandon Montalvo because they didn't have a QB coach on the Freshmen team.He worked on their release, how to pick up blitz, and overall confidence. Every one of those players improved!Even Brent Williams joined that session for a bit and ran routes. Cychner also works with this trainer and the Dad thanked me for putting them in contact. Some kids I just tried to encourage when they were down and fustrated by lack of playing time or lack of coaching. Telling a kid, as he comes off the practice field he just needs to change his stance, fire of the ball or that he's the real deal goes a long way even if it's from a blow hard like me, ask them! Or ask the parents who thank me for saying nice things to their sons or putting them in touch with these trainers. Good luck to Travis E, J. Luetin, A. Gomez, B. Gomez, the Duffs, Odom, Serafinco,Silva, Taylor, Gallardo,Cychner,M. Martinez,D. Carbajal,J. Reyes, Gus and Ritchie and my boy Zachary. I won't be at anymore games but if any of you smell a whipering NANA - just throw away the shoe it's not worth the energy to wipe off!

O.K. Mr Corona LETS KEEP IT REAL!!! You are right you have great kids. Its too bad you are EMBARASSING them and you have NO CLUE that you are. Lets keep it real EVERYONE at Damien thinks you're an idiot!! AND YOU HAVE NO CLUE!!! We the parents in the stands are tired of hearing you. You are right you are entitled to your opinion BUT KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!! We are tired of hearing your loud mouth opinion after every single play!!! Like you know what your talking about!!! LET US WATCH THE GAMES IN PEACE!! I mean come on man you use 2 names on this blog and you have conversations with yourself????? Think about that!!!! Your a nut with no life!!! Do you talk to yourself while driving in your car or at home alone???? NUT CASE!!! THATS MY OPINION!!!! Your not a whispering NANA??? Man you have been on here for months hiding behind your aliases and now you get called out and you wanna play the tough guy role?? WHISPERING NANA!!! THATS MY OPINION!!! I'll tell you what dogg from now on we will call you LOMBARDI since you think you know EVERTHING!!! BUT THATS MY OPINION!!! IS THIS REAL ENOUGH FOR YOU??!!??!!

By the way, every time you Amat Alumni and supposed supporters bash your own school, it makes it less likely that the next crop of Jr. All-American stars will want to enroll there, thereby making it even less likely that the proud program will return to dominance. If there is a problem, address it quietly.

Go 'Cats!

on friday nights at south hills...straiger worked the clock and wingate just charted plays...id say about 80 percent of the husky studs skipped jv...wingate straiger=very cool people off the field...please stop this madness! you cant be 10-0 every year

what brought down gabrielino in the 0-30 shutout to SR? was it the linemen not being able to hold off the offense period?

on another note: the 9-7 win over san marino titans looks a solid point on their resum'e' bcuz SM followed up with an overtime FG upset of La Salle 17-14;

and;
how does el monte look?

brian johnson is doing a great job with the freshman, your right. but how can you say that the he had input and that the JV coaches had none? no one said that thier staff wasn't doing a 'fine job'. but, if they want to repeat the sucess they have had in the past their staff has to do much better than fine (which is what they were with Ryan, Wingate and Straiger). not only did they lose those choaches but they lost varsity coaches that they had to put there to replace them. doing a fine job is apparenlty not getting the job done, especially if they lost to la habra, the team that they beat 5 years ago in the CIF champtionship game. All I am saying is that the slight decline in the program has less to do with the players, and more to do with the loss of key coaches. i have no doubt that the huskies will bounce back, but to think they will dominate thier CIF division as they have in the past is a little lofty.

All I can say to you Bluorca is:

Thank God we are not Family

bluorca ur funny.

amatwillshine- Coaches, at least real coaches, don't read blogs! They know what they have to do and that's concentrate on their team and the next week's opponent. That's it! Look at Dorrell @ UCLA they were calling for his head for being inexperienced and lacking this or that, and he went 10-2 last year! Real Coaches have thick skin and KNOW it comes with the territory, or at least will have to learn it comes with the job. How many Engish/Math teachers get grilled like that! The only way coaches find out about blog statements are thru whispering nanas. You know the ones that bend the ears of head coaches to their advantage and then "blog" in the stands. That way there's no record! tisk tisk tisk Play nice! lol It never bothered me when players parents complained about this or that because I was too busy coaching. I saw them for what they were- Parents who loved their kids and wanted, more than anything, to help their son. At least that's the why I was taught to look at it, but what do I know , I don't have a life! Go Catholic School Ballers -Damien,Mater Dei, Loyola, St. John Bosco, Salesian, and yes even, Cantwell and Cathedral! Brotherhood Bond For Life!

true sh fan your way off!...there a young team and there staff is doin a fine job...if im playing or coaching in this valley i wouldnt want to see them after week 7...the jv program has had about 0 to do with there sucess look 1 level lower and freshman coach brian johnson hes put together 3 ouuta 5 leage championship teams...huskies will bounce back and secure 2nd in there league

I haven't seen Mark Mendrun play yet but I have known the family since Mark was a young flag player in youth. It's no surprise that this guy has turned out to be a class act. He has two older siblings who are just as polite and respectfully young adults. This is proof positive that children can be raised properly in a society that is filled unsportsmanship conduct and self-centered players. Both of his parents should be proud not only of their child but on the wonderful job they have done raising their family. My hat is off to both of them and with every great comment made about their son; they deserve a pat on the back as well. Thank you to the Mendrun family for making the San Gabriel area just a little better place to live.

WE ARE THE AMAT FAMILY! AND WE ARE MANY! We have earned the right to write about OUR family anyway we wish. We love OUR players but we are their biggest critics as well. To think that this blog or any media has a negative impact on the players or coaches is absolutely ridiculous. Amat players play againts some of the top teams in the nation year after year. What do they care about anonymous scratchings on some SGV blog? (sorry Aram, this blog rocks!) We expect only the best from both player and coach. This is what it means to play at Bishop Amat. If you are not the type of person to give 150% on and off the field, do not apply to become part of this family. If something is wrong with OUR family then we will voice it. Amat players play at a level that few SGV teams have only tasted here and there. We want OUR young brothers in royal blue/gold to do well and if something like politics or $$$ get in the way of OUR brother's success, I believe we have a responsibility to voice our concerns. And if you are paying attention you will see that OUR critism of OUR players is always followed by words of support and love.
CO BRO...you are right...you and others know nothing about Amat tradition or what is expected from the Amat football program. It is because of OUR tradition and OUR commitment to challenge our youth and staff that Amat smashed Charter Oak 62-7 over the past 2 years. Now be nice and mind your business before we alumni make sure that Amat plays Charter Oak next year!

So, many of you people commenting on South Hills really don't know what is going on with that program at all. Bogan is a GREAT head coach, but he is only as good as his supporting cast. When did SH win thier first CIF Ring? When a gentleman name Mike Ryan came onto staff and the O and D lines started dominating. If you win in the trenches you win in the scoreboard. They also had some very dedica
