"Candice in Westwood" ... Brown verbals to UCLA ...
Sounds like a movie, doesn't it?

Brown is 70-1 in two seasons at Amat with two state championships.
Reigning Tribune girls basketball Player of the Year Candice Brown of Bishop Amat has given a verbal commitment to UCLA. Brown is the fifth Lancer in three years to earn a Division I scholarship.
NOTE: If you haven't seen a Bishop Amat girls hoops game during the past three years, then you either live under a rock or aren't a legit SGV sports fan. I don't care if Amat isn't your school, these teams and their players are honestly a once-in-a-lifetime event that's going into its fourth year. Think back to UNLV in the early 1990s, it's the girls prep basketball equivalent. You don't have to be a fan, but you should go just to see the spectacle. This is by far the area's best prep sports program.
Way to go, Candice!

Candice Brown is at the school she is "supposed to be going to". I really dislike the public school attitude that they are entitled to the students that live in their area. If this girl's family wants to sent her to Amat, that's their right.

Memo To Aconcerned Public School Teacher:
You obviously have not been following girls high school basketball all the closely in the last 4 years. AMAT is the cream of the crop. Almost 3 state titles, national ranking, playing in the best tournaments against the best teams in the country equals college coaches and college scholarships. Sure, maybe with her ability she would have received a scholarship no matter what. However, she was now given choices to go anywhere she wanted to rather then given 1 or 2 choices which would probably had been the case if she would have went to her local school.
Furthermore, the Amat coach is teaching the girls how to play good basketball which is something she may not have received at her local school. what he has done year in and year out is a testament as to how good of a coach he is and what he brings to the table.

HUH she drives in from Moreno Valley?? Interesting. I wonder how good list school she is supposed to be going would have been if she went there? If you are talented you will be found. College's don't go to high school games they go to travel ball games.

What I always worried about with Candice was that she'd never develop that killer, intimidating attitude that Erin Myrick had. But, she did. She can be mean on the court, which is awesome to see. What's also awesome is her athleticism. She isn't clumsy at all. Very athletic and just ruins most other post players. Candice is by far one of the best SGV athletes I've covered and she is a blast to watch. It's not far-fetched to say she's the best girls basketball player in SGV history. The numbers/wins/banners don't lie.

How smart are her parents? The girls travels from Moreno Valley to Amat every single day and look what it has done. A full ride to UCLA! All you parents out there, pay full attention. Do whatever it takes to get your kids to the best program in the SGV. Learn people. Don't get mad at anyone but yourself when you send your kid to a lesser program and he/she ends up at Mt Sac. Please think about your kids future. (and the education is great as well).

It's awesome that Candice decided to stay close to home. She'll make the Bruins proud to say the least. She's an exceptional scholar athlete and has only improved as she has matured. After UCLA, you'll be seeing her in the WNBA...yeah, she's THAT good. Congratulations to Ms. Brown and her family. You make the Amat Alumni proud!

She belongs at UCLA. She has the Size [6'5"], the defensive skills, and the jumpper that you hardly see out of taller players. She has been a cornerstone along with Jessica Carrera, Juanise Cornell, and Christian Myles for the past two years.
Good luck to her and the rest of the Lancers this year as they run for a 4th CIF title and 3rd State title.
