Lunch at Hooters and an all encompassing SGV Top 10 ...

| | Comments (15) |

Geographic boundaries notwithstanding ...

The Hooters girls had no input, but they wanted some.

Yes, Robledo was at lunch with us. Yes, he wanted to argue that his teams are just as good if not better. Could I argue back? The East SGV is by far deeper, but the West SGV appears to have the quality at the top. And yes, I adhered to the diet by taking my wings "naked" as in not breaded.

ALL ENCOMPASSING SGV TOP 10
1. St. Francis (4-0) - The win over Los Altos kinda says it all.
2. Los Altos (4-1) - The current top team in the East.
3. Rowland (4-0) - Owns the record, the playmakers and the current No. 2 in the East. This might be very optimistic.
4. Damien (3-2) - This team could play with and beat any of those above it.
5. West Covina (2-2) - I'm very concerned, worried and confused by this team. Sometimes they're hurt, sometimes they're suspended.
6. Bishop Amat (2-2) - I have a very hard time convincing myself that Amat shouldn't be higher. We'll see in two weeks.
7. Monrovia (3-1) - Played WestCo tough and is a legit CIF title contender in their own world.
8. Muir (3-1) - Fred is really high on this team ... me I can kinda see it.
9. Glendora (3-1) - This could be Covina, South Hills or Bonita's spot, but it's Glendora's for now and the Tartans will be higher next week if they drop Rowland on Friday.
10. Temple City (4-0) - I can stay impartial, even though I love my Rams. Wait, was that a slip? Anyway, you can't argue with how TC looks thus far.

... oh yeah, here's Robledo's ... Joe, you'll like it.

ROBLEDO'S SGV TRIBUNE/STAR-NEWS TOP 10
1. St. Francis (4-0) - Not debatable anymore
2. Rowland (4-0) - Probably the Tribune's real No. 1
3. Los Altos (4-1) - Knights defense too much
4. Damien (3-2) - Most unpredictable on East side
5. Muir (3-1) - Only loss to Oaks Christian, the best team in the country.
6. Bishop Amat (2-2) - Can beat anyone on this list.
7. West Covina (2-2) - Former Tribune No. 1 falling fast
8. Monrovia (4-1) - The best of the best from the RHL
9. Glendora (3-1) - Let's see how they do against Rowland on Friday
10. Temple City (4-0) - Rams will go undefeated until they meet Wildcats in week nine.

So much for TC going undefeated till week 9...what a pathetic loss. They looked absoluletly lethargic with no desire what so ever.

its to bad CIF didnt carve up the old divisions into more strict geographical boundaries, that way we could have a south bay div, a western div, an orange county north and south, and san gab valley east and west, sanf fernando valley E. and W., a pomona valley, santa clarita and so on and so?, You would still have 10 or so divisions...and wouldnt it be bitchen if those div champs squared in sectional playoffs like basketball.....then this matter of who is really is the big dog on each block could be determined, Hey Aram...how does CIF determine (with all their wisdom) which division these leagues currently get placed into? by student population? we'd only be talking extending the season 2-4 weeks, and that would only be for the respective div champs---not everyone, somehow i dont think those kids/coaches/parents would mind....crazy huh?.......anxiously waiting for rowlands beat down---randy.....damn am i gonna eat crow if they pull one outta there butts!

john,I dont know about los altos being much better then rowland i have to say they are pretty equal is a matter of fact i know they are and by the way amat is not going to beat st francis, are you kidding me but good luck amat fan Ill be pulling for your qb carrillo hes a good kid.
ps-hope hes still the qb

Aram,

How do you have Amat behind W. Covina when they beat the team that beat W. Covina? As for St. Francis, last I looked they were in La Canada, is that the SGV. I am glad to see you had the gutts to put Los Altos ahead of Rowland but I see Robledo did not, Los Altos is much better. I will take Amat in the 6 hole for now but when they beat St. Francis I expect them to move up dramatically.

I played with rowland last year and we went to the second round of play offs and could've won the whole thing but made mistakes, I think this year is no different. were a good team as long as we dont make mistakes. You shouldn;t under estimate glendora which has bigger and probably stronger kids than rowland so dont be suprised if underestimated glendora does win. But Rowland wont quit, Us Raiders have Heart

Where is the respect for the Braves. When BP runs all over Covina maybe we will finally get the respect that we deserve!

FreighTrain said:

Lol, Joe, calm down, so far I've only seen him post/say good stuff about Rowland. We have little enough people on our side, quit pickin on him ;)

Aram, the 2-minute drill was great. I only have one issue with it, there are still PLENTY of Rowland fans, we pack the stands every week. Like I said in one of the threads earlier, at Don Lugo, it looked like we outnumbered the hosting Don Lugo fans.

VANNER said:

A win by Rowland would shock the world! Then Rowland will deserve the respect some seem to be demanding.

aram, its cool i messed up my bad,i was dizzy when i read it lol, nice 2 min drill.

Joe,

Read it thoroughly - I said "do a number on Glendora" as in blowout. Not just win, but blowout. That would really serve notice. I don't know if it can happen, though.

aram, give me a break do you know football or what if rowland beats glendora it wont be a shock you crack me up. This blog is really starting to crack me up bring on friday night.

Randy,

Read the comments. I have a hard time believing Amat will lose to St. Francis, so we'll see. Here's the thing - these rankings can't all just be about who beats who, it also has to do with who is having the best season. I don't know if that translates too well into these particular rankings. I don't think it does, but we'll see. Maybe Rowland will do a number on Glendora and shock the world. Or maybe Glendora will whip Rowland and deserve to be much much higher.

randy said:

wow....so you think rowland beats Amat and Damien?.....well Aram, that is a complete crock, but at least you put it out there. Should be a helluva game fri night on that dirt patch of a field at RHS...

FreighTrain said:

Thanks for posting your new poll, Aram! I was getting worried I wouldn't see another one in the blog, and that I'd have to start driving from Riverside to SGV every wednesday so I could get the print edition. I did send an email to your subscription department inquiring about getting it in the mail, but sadly, no response...
I'm glad to see that the CIF isn't the only one ranking Rowland so high. Helps calm down some of the butterflies I have about Friday. I can't wait though, I'm looking forward to a GREAT game, whichever way it goes. For what it's worth, Calpreps predicts it at 31-28 Glendora. That's a pretty tight margin, I hope it stays that close, could be a great battle! Wait, I take that back, I hope Rowland blows them out of the water, who cares if it's a great game, lol. This is a big one, and I know our boys have what it takes. Go Raiders!
