Amat really sounds you have some seriours problems. I'm glad we did not choose to send our kids there, you were one of the schools we were considering. I bet the parents who had their kids transfer from other local schools purely for the sports are regreting their choice now. It seems the "grass is always greener" until you get there. Thanks for sharing the info that doesn't make to the recuriting messages and meetings.

Hey Bluorca,
the players would love to put Verti in that bullring of yours. The coaches are causing all of these problems. They play favorites and the best players are not playing in their positions.
We have had the players on this team to win this year. We have players who already have many recruiting letters for positions the coach wont play them in.
We have players with family members or position coaches that have played and were very good in those positions at AMAT and the next level that the coach wont play them in.
We have players that were standouts in college camps in their true positions and the coach wont play them.
We have many players the coach has lied to about playing them or more playing time, and still hasnt played them.
These are all guys that can play at this level and the next.

How about those 16yards for Al Harrison. Great game Colts.

Not lets get down to the nitty gritty, this talk is rediculous these are childish mistakes from a childish coaching staff and you all know it, the reason why he cannot, not that he wont but CANNOT have simpathy for the boy who had his eye crushed in is simply because of his age and experience, and also the age of his own kids, PERIOD.
What do i mean by this, he cannot think of this happening to his kid is because his kid is most likely a toddler and those thoughts are nowhere in his mind, if his children were in high school or out of high school then he would be able to experience empathy, those of you who have kids in college or out of high school know what is being said.
Its not a matter of different generations its a matter of a very ambitious young coach getting a job and being able to staff it with other very ambitious young coaches who more than not wouldnt be able to get a freshman or J.V. job anywhere else on thier own merrit.
In about five years he will be resigning and using time with family as his excuse, just like the last guy, the problem is with the administration and that is harder to deal with thats why we make different excuses for our situation, we are average because this is what we tolerate, NO DOUBT.
Lastly we are no longer a football school school we are now a baseball softball, girls basketball school, dont believe me look at who gets payed more football coach or baseball coach.

Aram,
I hear what you say about a fun atmosphere. Winning breads a fun atmosphere. I have seen the dance many time from the girls, it is usually after the Alma Mater, I have never seen one of the girls stand over another player after going to the hole with the ball and charging through someone. Mr. Wiard would not let this happen. Just because there is discipline does not mean that there is not fun. I played for a disciplinarian and we had fun. The players need to respect the coaches and the program and want to play for the Pride in the school and what the mighty Blue and Gold stand for. Can you see a single I in Blue and Gold, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

John,
I think these coaches are in a bind. Coaches can't any longer run their programs like the military, or kids will deem it not fun to play there. It sounds terrible, I know. But there are certain programs around who let their kids make fashion statements and do their things. The kids like playing there. Amat used to be able to say "this is how it is, and you'll do it our way" but I think that might keep some athletes away. Not sure, but I think it might. I know that Coach Wiard lets the girls hoopsters dance to the drum thing the school band does after the game. I believe they're allowed to do it only after a win (not that they ever lose). I've seen the other team stand there and watch them with a "What the hell is that?" look on their faces. But you know what, the kids want to have fun.
Coach Verti is young and he probably knows that the program can't be too rigid or it's unattractive. If you're winning CIF titles left and right, that's one thing, but it might be good to showcase that the players have fun.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm condoning thug behavior at all.
I am going to do a thread on something like this a little later.
Posted by: Aram | October 27, 2006 4:19 PM
Wow, did I strike a nerve.
I do not condone kicking the cra- out of someone but the leaders need to get in their face. This has lapsed the last couple years at Amat, leaders do not step up and that is in all sports that is why you hear about drama causing havoc in the sports at Amat. I have seen it first hand. There is no place in Amat history for the primadonas, Amat was built on a team concept. Team concept is gone and you can hang your hat on that. If you want me to air it out I will but I won't.
I see with the responses, there is more to this like #37 getting punched, like the coach getting cussed out by the kid (haven't heard that one yet). We alumni get the reports by people that are there.
I saw this player from Amat last year make a touchdown and than out of nowhere man appears in the end zone in a security jacket and they do the chest bump, someone said it was his dad. No place in Amat football for that, oh yeah it cost us 15 yards. These 15 yard penalties were the norm the last couple years with sack dances and taunting penalties, I sure hope they are done.
amatblueandgold,
I grew up in the Amat family and I grew up respecting and counting on my teammates. I still communicate daily with alumni and they all are sick from the stuff that gets washed under the rug and many are in the hall of fame. Street violence is one thing but but the acceptance of the behavior of kids like this and others is inexcusable.
Go Lancers, Homecoming is a must win game, make us proud.

Nice story there blu but......
One thing I have to disagree with you is that smack talk DOES NOT belong on the field or anyplace for that matter. There is nothing worse than watching a player talk trash to other players, it shows no class by the talker. If anything it's a total lack of sportsmanship.
That's the trouble with kids nowadays, they copy what they see on the boob tube. What good is it when you make a tackle, catch, or anything where you get up and do you dance when your team is getting it's butt kicked on the field? What purpose does THAT serve? My philisophy is simple, make the touchdown, hand the ball to the ref. Make a tackle, get up and go back to the huddle. Shake hands there, your team mates will show their appreciation then. THAT's what matters, what your team thinks about you not hot dogging for the crowd.
Let your play do the talking, not your mouth.

Bluorca,
I am with you, it all comes down to this kid was not ready mature wise to play at the varsity level. Should he get a chance next year, sure everyone deserves a second chance. Can this contribute?..heck yes he has all the tools of a great one if he would dedicate himself and see it as a team game....I am hoping he has learned something and come back next year and redeems himself and becomes one of our next great ones that Amat has to offer to the colleges...he has the size. Hope the coaches get him to focus next year...but I know they will have a short leash with him next year...It is up to him....I hear he is goos Basketball player.....

A Bit O' Football Justice
I would never condone any street violence againts any kid regardless of his behavior on or off the field. No matter how this kid is behaving only the coaches and the kids parents know his true potential. I'm reminded of this one kid who was on a certain team...lets call him Mack. Mack was young, strong, tough, and talented. The problem was that he knew it and he would often stir up trouble with the other players, get into scuffles, and pick on those that were smaller or less talented than he. Well one day the coach decided to put him in the center of a "bullring." Everyone dressed in pads and Mack was put in the center of the ring created by the other players. Then one or two at a time, the coach would yell out names, and the players whose names were called ran and hit Mack pad to pad. No helmet spikes where allowed of course. Mac took the first 2 hits and was still standing and continued to talk smack to the other players. The coach was smart though, he sent his big guys in first and pounded Mack. By the time the 3rd string came along, Mack was getting leveled by guys that weighed 20 lbs. less then he. Every time Mack got hit, he hit the ground continuously until he was completey exhausted. By the time the coach called an end to the bullring, Mack was spent and in tears laying on the ground panting. You see, it was only then that Mack realized that his team hated to have to play with him. It was only then that he realized that the entire team wanted him gone regardless of his talent. Then the coach did something I'll never forget. He ordered everyone to take a knee while they were still encircling Mack who was still on the ground trying to gain his composure back. Then the coach told him, "Mack, no one here doubts how good you are but you will only be as good as this team allows you to be. This team needs you son, but this team doesnt NEED you to go on." Mack couldnt argue, he just spent the last 15 minutes getting floored by players the same size or just a tad bigger than the kicker LOL! The coach then ordered his captains to help Mack to his feet and give him water. Amazingly Mack took the help and water and then left the field. No one expected him back. Mack did come back though to practice the next day to the groans of his teamates.
Mack did not apologized for his past behavior but he left that type of behavior behind. The bullring changed Mack. It made him realize that he was not invincible no matter how talented he was. By the time Mack started on the Varsity squad, he was a Leader. He worked with the coaches as well as his team to not only improve his own play but also the play of the players that were Mack's backup. Mack did not stop talking smack though. He was as loud and as obnoxious as ever....but he only did this during games and he would only direct his smack talking at the OTHER team which is part of the game of football..haha! In the end Mack was loved by his teamates who he considered his brothers and vice versa. He matured considerably in very little time and went from a trash talking chump to a born again disciplined player and leader. Sounds like a movie doesn't it? I remember thinking the same thing at that time. Mack would go on to much bigger things after high school. =)
The bullring worked for Mack. I dont know if it would work for everyone including this young man from Amat but that time, it worked perfectly. This kid at Amat is very young like Mack was. And like Mack, I think every kid can change and become an actual Leader given the proper guidance. This will be not only the responsibility of his parents but also the Amat coaching staff as well. Whether or not it works is up to this kid just as it was up to Mack. I pray that he makes the right decisions and that he matures considerably before next year. He was not ready to play Varsity at Amat. If he's still talking smack about the Varsity while he's on the JV, he still has a LONG way to go and if he continues this behavior then he can indeed go play for some other high school. The future of Amat football will not rest with one player no matter how talented he is. It's possible that he will never be ready but there is always that possibility that he will be ready next year. Hopefully by then, he will have learned the value of discipline and brotherhood on and off the field.
I still have faith in you young Lancer...

Look in the program in the varsity DB pictures. around page 37 of the program and look at the kid sitting in the front row #37..look at the left side of his face....done by the "MOUTH".....is that fair to this kid?...#37 is a very good individual who is very religious and leads in prayer at times.........did he deserve this?.....should Verti have let the mouth get away with this????absolutely not!....again, acceptable because he wanted to win with this 6'3 reciever....????well he waited too long for the demotion of this player....Verti is still winning with what he has. Then for this kid to just be sent down to JV to play and take another good kids position....this kid should have been bounced from the school............we taught this kid nothing about behavior....a slap on the wrist is all he got.....picture does not lie...check it out......No one hits our Lancer kids unless you have pads on and it is out on the field.......

Back in the late 70's or early 80's this Sophmore would have a taken a beating from everyone ala private Pile in Full Metal Jacket. Todays day and age that is no longer a way to deal with things. Violence is out of control at this age as well....how many 16 and 17 year old are being killed over stupid Cra-.........yes, leave it to the coaches to discipline the kid. The LB snapped due to frustration of losing as well as "the mouth" bringing it on himself. It is still not right to beat on some one....Altho "the mouth" was beating on kids before the season started. of course smaller kids...."the mouth is 6'3.....Go ask the kid he puched in the eye and had to go to the hospital....Verti should have canned this kid right there and then.....oh no we need him he is 6'3 and can catch the ball......now that is cra-....this kid should have been kicked out of school.....
Posted by: MATMTWTBAG | October 27, 2006 11:23 AM
Hey John, you are actually encouraging another kid to kick another kid's @ss... you have to be kidding me... I remember how football was at Amat in the 80s and 90s, but now kids get in trouble for doing what once was acceptable... yeah imagine if your kid got his @ss kicked!!! think about it... you are probably saying hey if my son needed it then kick it... yeah macho man sounds like a plan... you should never condone teenage violence... that is low class... that is not true Amat football... Amat football was about believing in your fellow brothers and going out there week in and week out and taking out all those emotions on the other team not on each other... We need to encourage our boys to fight to victory... the boys need all the fans support... the coaches need the fans support... the fans need to be there to lift the team up when things are going bad and back the coaches and players not BOO!!! Let's go Lancers... Beat the Celts... let's keep the tradition... Crespi has never beat'en you Lancers... do not let it happen tonight... GO BIG BLUE!!!
Posted by: amatcalvary | October 27, 2006 10:47 AM
John-are you serious? What kind of monsterous mentality does one have to have to make the following statement: "Coach, you earned some respect by sending the sophmore receiver down but you would have earned more by fully cutting him. In the early 80's we would have took him out and kicked his a-- like the line backer supposedly did. Great job kid, whoever you are. Amat needs leaders in all sports like you, primadonnas in all sports get away with this kind of sh-- and the drama is not needed."
I agree that the primidonna attitude cannot be tolerated in any sport. However, condoning the beating of one player by another and then furhter noting it as appropriate discipline and insinuating it is good leadership is SICK! SICK & RIDICULOUS! These players are children that the coach is dealing with & he should be setting a positive example. The leaders that are chosen for the team should be leaders with leadership skills as well. Players should not be expected to come up to Varsity if they are not ready-physically OR mentally!
And another thing-KNOW YOUR FACTS. The a-- beating you refer to did NOT happen. There have been so many rumors surrounding this incident that the truth has been completely lost. If you are condoning that one player should sacrifice his future behind the a-- whooping of another player you are insane. Don't forget that hitting another person is against the law. We have to teach our young people that putting their hands on someone else in a fit of anger can send their lives spiraling downward. Self-control, tolerance and forgiveness is what should have been highlighted in this situation. Let us not forget that putting you hands on someone in the world outside of Amat family will result in assault, charges, paroll & possibly jail time. We cannot afford for our children to think that their fists are a solution for ANY situation.
Yes the sophomore has a lot to learn as well. Maybe if his antics had not been tolerated when previous incidents occurred then he would not have been able to continue them because he would have been clear that there is a NO TOLERANCE POLICY. But maybe they were tolerated because the coaches felt his talent and abilities to contribute to the team out-weighed the antics. Who is confused here? The sophomore or the coaches? Hmmm.
This is not the manner in which anyone should deal with issues ESPECIALLY AN AMAT LANCER.
Grow up, John!!!!!!
Now REALLY back to Amat football-
GO LANCERS, PLAY HARD & GET THAT FIRST LEAGUE WIN!!
Go Amat!

I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
SGV Athlete, I don't know if the JV game was a battle or not but the defense was eaten alive in that game. The D backs were constantly getting burned and the coverage was miserable at best. They couldn't defend the screen even if they knew it was coming and the tackling left much to be desired. I wonder about Marquez's leading of the defense. When we have the ball he is pacing the sidelines as if he were calling the plays on offense too. Hell he should pull the defense over to the banch and go over strategy and changes while the boys get a rest NOT worrying what the offense is doing. Well one secong thought even that would be hard to do since half of the D is on O at the same time. No wonder these guys are running out of gas as the game wears on.
BTW, I heard from a JV player that the two sideline refs were "in training". The only vet out there was the Ref in the O backfield. Don't you just love being the guinea pig for this?

For all you that went to Amat but have not had the pleasure to send your kids there Amat relies on no money from the archdiocese. If you have ever attended a Catholic school you will know that the school is self supportive. The archdiocese does set the pay scales for the teachers and coaches but the school must rely on their own money to make pay roll and cover all bills. It is my understanding that the minimum pay scales are negotiated but adjustments can be made. Msgr. Carroll chooses not to make adjustments and in turn looses out on keeping qualified personnel and hiring top notch coaches.
I am not sure if the word is out or not but Amat just lost one of their top notch administrators. Mrs. Wiard was hired by Charter Oak as their Principal. They got someone that knows what it takes to get the kids into the colleges. She has been the one to help negotiate certain clauses in scholarships that -parents knew nothing about. Amat has truly lost another good one. Good luck Mrs. Wiard.
Back to Amat football, I know you are young but play with intensity and play Lancer football. Coach, you earned some respect by sending the sophmore receiver down but you would have earned more by fully cutting him. Hey for any one who cares, this is how the power rankings will go when all the other teams loose in the first round or dont even make it they wont get any points for that week, or wont get any strength of schedule props for that week. The teams that go to the playoffs and keep going will keep raising thier power ranking while everyone else is at home reading newspaper, by finals time the last two teams will have a greater power ranking than everyone else, but of course the rowlands or covinas wont even be close enough because of that terrible term known as strength of schedule, even if you were to win your section the bigger schools like loyola and mater dai or even amat would have a stronger power score in the end, sorry for the reality check son but thats why so many talk with such confidence about who is the best in the area, in order to have a shot you need to have a tough preseason schedule.
You can go undefeated in preseason and not even make the playoffs, dont cry about the schedule there champ but every year a school or a.d. can up his level if he so chooses, if these guys are honest they will tell you the same, HERES THE PROOF WHERE THE HELL DID DIAMOND RANCH COME FROM, THEY PLAYED OAKS CHRISTIAN, SERVITE AND OTHERS SCHOOLS I CANT EVEN REMEMBER, BUT I READ ITS THE TOUGHEST PRESEASON SCHEDULE IN THE SECTION, NOW JR HOW CAN THEY GET THOSE GAMES AND NO ONE ELSE IN THE VALLEY BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE. These are all weak excuses, because the truth is that in order to play this type of schedule you must have b$##s of steel and a real coach, hey thats the truth.
Final note aram kick these fools off of your site your doing a hell of a job best in l.a. with your articles and blogs and coverages, way to rebound from last years joke of a high school sports paper, and to the wanna be bleeds blu n gold come on nacho get real you cant even think of something better than that what a joke im even embarrassed for you myself, please stop its really sad with that great education you parents bought you you cant even think of your own blog jacket, terrible whats next are you going to be the true ARAM, get an identity, you need to watch life stinks and see the argument between goddard bolt and the nut, this is how you sound MAN dont let your wife and kids see this they wont think of you the samE.

SD-Lancer...thank you. my information was wrong...the worst part is i went to AMAT for 4 years and i didn't know that [but its still ridiculously expensive]. i would like to retract that statement.
anyway, forget that...i pick AMAT to win this one in a close one. i went to the JV game today and THAT was a dog fight [even if the refs were paid off].
GOOD LUCK AMAT TOMORROW...

Went to the under the lights Weds. Amat Practice and Gaise seems to be getting better as time goes on. He is walking without the boot and was riding the stationary bike. Looks like his return date is next week vs SO ND but he seems to want to get it on right now......wishful thinking on his part. I really feel sorry for Gaise knowing all that talent he has is sitting idle as he looks at Brice McBride, Mattew Gamez and the very impressive Kevin Bonilla take their turns back there. Seems like the ND game will still be stretching it for Gaise return and his only real hope to come back will be the last game of the season against Loyola. By that Loyola game he is most likely going to be at around 75% fit. How much he will play if at all is up to Verti and the coaching staff with the advice of the physical Therapist. Hope the staff does not rush him back and cause further injury. Hope Gaise does not lie about the injury and try to rush himself back too soon as well...... What a way to end your senior season. I just hope Gaise has that film or Self DVD of his game vs. Valencia. This kids should not be overlooked by college scouts because of injury....this kid has some very good talent.

Bleeds Blue and Gold is right about the playoff spots guys...There are only 2 spots....not 3. I mentioned this in an earlier post and I got this info from the Daily News. Each team must beat at least 2 others to make the playoffs and avoid those dumb coin flips. Amat HAS to win tonight...otherwise, if Crespi beats Loyola too (WHICH THEY WILL) Amat will miss the playoffs automatically regardless if Amat beats Loyola or not.
Hey Mike DA Clone,
You should indeed check out Amat's game friday. It's going to be a tough battle and Amat is the underdog in this contest. If anything you should go to check out the talent that Crespi has. This team would lay waste to all of the SGV except Damien. Damien would only lose by 3 scores haha! No really, I dont know that for sure but I do know that Crespi has been in some close ones with some of the best teams in the Southern Section. I also know that Crespi manhandled St. Francis who beat down a good Los Altos team (statistically)and lost a very close one to Amat. If anything Mike, go for the 50/50 drawing...At Amat, they are HUGE. Many times it goes over $1000...thats $300 for you and $700 for me! haha! BEST LUCK TO YOUR TARTANS TONIGHT AGAINTS CHINO!!!
I've met the Don (aka Cardinal Mahony) 3x in my life. He's an extremely intelligent and worldly man but at the same time, he's also very down to earth. Our brief conversations have always ended with smiles and warm handshakes. He's also a big football fan and its typical for him to show up at games when the big Catholic schools play eachother. It always adds to the atmosphere and the intensity of the game when the Don shows up. He'll stand on the sidelines of one team in the first half and then switch sides at the second half. EVERYONE wants to do good when Cardinal Mahony shows up and is standing with your team. To Catholics, he's like the mayor, the governator, and the general all rolled into one.
To the Gaisie Family,
We look foward and are praying for Gaisie's continued recovery from his injury. There is not a doubt in my mind that if Amat had him as an extra weapon in the backfield, we would have definitely scored some more points via ground attack. Rancho C, Carson, St. Francis, and Chaminade, etc, would have had to deal with 2 weapons (Gaisie/MrBride) in the backfield...not just one. They were LUCKY that Gaisie was not playing! It will be a proud moment for all of the Amat Family when Gaisie steps onto the field again wearing the Royal Blue and Gold!
Our Lady, Queen of Victory...
Pray for us.

The best thing I can tell you is to win and everything will take care of itself. Those power rankings are mostly based on strength of schedule and although nobody doubts you guys are a good team, you didn't play strong competition beside Glendora in the nonleague. You did what you were supposed to against the teams you were playing, but I think that kind of hurts when it comes to power rankings. The El Dorados and Mayfairs are supposedly very good this year and that's going to be a major challenge to the Miramonte and SAL teams in a month.

this statement you made: pps. "Cardinal Roger Mafia School"? thats funny seeing how AMAT is NOT funded by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles...its a privately funded school.
I just wanted to correct you in saying that Amat is funded by the Archdioces. They are not privately funded. Why do you think Msgr. Carroll is the president of the school? You just need to get your facts straight before you post something like that. Now a school like Servite is a privately funded school and so is Sata Margarita, but not Amat. Just had to throw that in there.

aram how do u feel about the calpreps ratings? we(rowland) arent even in the top 100 for south division II. trust me im not holding my breath that we'll even get a chance if we are fortunate enough to win the southwest division. but el dorado is ranked 10 and they arent even the top ranked team in our division mayfair is. but that doesnt even bother as much as south hills is in the top 100 and we just beat them!!! what is the whole process on their rankings?teams like garey?and whittier? were ranked and i still couldnt find rowland

Good post on the running back issue...
THING IS
Barbone as a sophmore should go over 1000 this week. Great accomplishment for a young kid. Not many young guns doing that...
Your boy Edmond was shut down last week and dropped three passes in his hands. Maybe you should concern yourself with this week game, and the team concept. Teams win games not individuals....
High school Fan
What a dumb comment..
Some facts on SGV runners:
Chris Harris
164 carries,1089 yds,6.64 per yd, 155.6 per game
Aarron Harris
136 carries,1073 yds, 7.89 per yd, 153.3 per game
Jordan Edmond
140 carries,1009 yds,7.21 per yd,144.1 per game
Nico Barbone
119 carries,901 yds, 7.57 per yd, 128.7 per game
You can evaluate these numbers anyway you want, but it appears to me they are all doing fine and helping their teams.
Furthermore, the paper does a good job every week by posting the leaders. Start reading the box scores on Friday's.

I am the original Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
CIF pairings for the playoffs have only the top two teams from Serra qualifying for a playoff spot. The only way the third place team would get in is with the At Large slot that CIF would assign but you are battling the other leagues for the slot so I wouldn't hold my breath or make travel plans if we weren't a clear cut qualifier.

Now I hate Crespi with a passion (they ran over the Del Rey League the last couple of years and a lot of my good friends went to SO Notre Dame so it's a hate that is genetic) but honestly I don't see Amat beating them. I hope I'm wrong but this Crespi team is really, really talented.

I say I think you're thin skinned and a punk.
Make a mental note.
When you're the host of a party it's rude to be an "ASS" to your guest. And in case you didn't know we're all guest here. You're writing about HS athletes for a living and have the temperment to match. Lighten up! I'm not the first person that's told you that. You remind me of Jim Rome egging on Jim Everett in a controlled envoronment. Bet that punk wouldn't have called him "Chris" in the locker room.
The last time I saw you you towered over the Charter Oak line, where did you play?
That's what I say. You still laughing?
It was nice when it was nice and it was brutal when it was brutal, it's been fun making new friends and talking football with former players and coaches but when the punk with a clip board and a tape recorder calls you out it's best to read and not write. My dad always told me, "You NEVER hit a girl!" Haven't yet and ain't gonna start now.
Mike see you at the Glendora game. Gotta see Pasquie one more time before he's ...maybe shown the door.

1,000 yards in 7 games,
There are 32 RBs in the Southern Section who are over 1,000 yards. And those are just the teams that report on maxpreps.
I appreciate your playing devil's advocate on literally every thread, but this is noteworthy, not newsworthy. Can't wait for your response to this.
Hey, you know what? Why don't you follow me around all day? You can say things like "Are you sure you want to turn left and enter the 10-Freeway, Aram?" or "You went to the mall yesterday for lunch, maybe you should go somewhere else." Whaddya say?

1000 yards in 7 games?
Is nothing to sneeze at Aram. That's 143 yards a game and 28 carries for 5 yards per carry. I don't care who you're playing or at what level that's pretty good.
(NFL, Div I, Div III, JC,HS)
Hey at least it was pretty good! Any RBs (past or present)want to comment on those numbers?

Al Harrison, or what ever his name is, has no chance against that Colt's Defense. He will be lucky to get half as much yards than he did last year. The Colts are solid and they are looking for another league title and a high seed in CIF. Don't under estimate Coach Thomas. Look for last years score, or something close to it.

Amat and the 4 team Serra League. 3 games of league is what Amat hangs on to. Amat must look at this league and the next 3 games like a best of three Baseball tournament...go 3-0 and your in. Go 2-1 and your most likely in. Go 1-2 and you are thru. Go 0-3 and it is better luck next year. One game at a time. in any tournament your first game is the most important. Take care of that one and rest falls into place. It could be worse for Amat and thet could have had the draw of game one on the road vs. Crespi or ND. They were fourtunate to get game one at home so make the best of it and take care of your business at home. We are the King of the SGV so lets come out and show that Friday.
Posted by: MATMTWTBAG | October 25, 2006 10:34 PM
They're all good backs and all destined to top 1,000 yards. Aaron Harris has more yards and slightly few carries, by the way. Duarte's Chris Harris is currently leading everybody.
Posted by: Aram | October 25, 2006 10:29 PM
Well, the thing is that Barbone doesn't have 1000..
Harris also just got to 1,000....
Edmond leads the Sierra League in rushing and is leading Glendora to the playoffs...
Huge game 2morrow against Chino!

haha....Mike the Clone: if your there, give a sign so i can put a face to the name....
Crespi is not joke, especially DJ Holt. the kid is an absolute stud. as long as the AMAT OL can beat up Crespi at the LOS, the Lancers have a good chance of winning this game. the run game is going to be hard press aganist this Celts' defense, but i think the AMAT WRs are ready to step it up in the throwing game. QB Carrillo just needs to not make stupid desicions. AND the AMAT defense is going to create havoc in the Celt backfield all day. fast off the ball aganist a slower OL.
when it comes down to it, AMAT needs to come out FULL of emotion. i'm going to love watching this one....
ps. SGV Football, it was Bosco last year, Loyola the year before that, and Santa Margarita the year before that...
pps. "Cardinal Roger Mafia School"? thats funny seeing how AMAT is NOT funded by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles...its a privately funded school.
COME ON, AT LEAST GET YOUR INFO RIGHT PEOPLE...

All I can say is thank God Amat didn't have a bye week before the league opener on Friday. Remember what happened last year against SJB and the year before that against Santa Margarita? Having said that don't you guys think bye week before a big game makes the guys a little rusty?
Mike the Clone, bring the bagpipes and the kilt and blow those horns proudly, might look a little outta place in Lancerville but Halloween is just round the corner.

Just wondering....
Why no Jordan Edmond news?JE8 just got over the 1,000 yard hump as he now has 1009 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. He also has 150 recieving yards on 8 receptions..(19 yd avg.)
He is having a great year despite continuing to be the main focus of every team walking onto the field...
Tartans have a huge game tomorrow...Pasquy will be looking for his first career victory as GHS coach over Chino....Feel good GHS!We should win!

Greetings!
I am Mike the Clone and you are not!
With that said:
Hey you guys I want you all to know not to write the O-bit for my “bagpipers just yet. I know were just struggling to stay a float but don’t give up on my kids. At least get me to the first round. I’d rather take a beating there than in the rest of league play. I guess I’m trying to save some face.
So please don’t be starting to put those stupid, tacky, hideous, looking “In Loving Memory of Mike the Clones Bagpipers 2006 stickers on the back of your cars just yet. You know those stickers.. the one's that looks like they were bought at a 7-11 counter along with the case of Corona and the handfull of .99 cent month old beef jerky while your on the way to the family gathering after the funeral services for poor old Uncle Joe.
Yeah…………… that’s what I really want to be, immortalized on the back of some dirty old unwashed frecking vehicle being driving around the San Gabriel Valley. If my family ever did that to me I’d be so embarrassed. How Whack Is That?
Before I go to the basement to recharge for tomorrow night. (I hate Thursday games) You guys with all the stats and records your throwing around here and there just like a bunch of “Little Stevie Hartmans. Well I have news for you, you bunch of spread sheet freeks can throw all of those stats right out the frecking window because they don’t mean s!@# when you get to the play-offs.
Actually you hardcore Amat “honks look out, this Clone is actually considering going to that game of yours Friday night. I want to see what Bluorca and that other "Cardinal Roger Mafia School" horn blowers are talking about.Oh by the way I will be pulling for you guys if I go. Hell I just might wear my Kilt and bring my bagpipes.....................NOT!
OUT!

I think theO-line is doing a great job considering they only had one returning starter from last year. The key match-ups will be Crespi's DE Sr.DJ Holt vs Tackles Jr.Austin or Jr.Ochoa. Austin would probable be the better matchup. I hope both players are ready because Holt is a top player GOOD LUCK AMAT
Posted by: Fan | October 25, 2006 4:06 PM
Verti needs no help and I am sure he see his o-line not dominating the line of scrimmage. He will adjust or Coach Adamek better adjust something. Games are won and lost in the trenches. We have the bodies up front to really blow people off the ball. O-line is key to winning. Defense proved its point vs Chaminade and just has to come with the same intensity...Amat 15 Crespi 13.....Coaches and Players bring your "A" game in this one. .......Amat 3-0 in league is not far fetched...very doable
Posted by: MATMTWTBAG | October 25, 2006 3:25 PM
I've seen Amat twice this year and I think I can predict the outcome of this game.
If Amat commits to the run. They win. That means blowing people off the ball and maintaining your blocks until the whistle blows!
Saw the Carson team do that to Amat and saw Amat respond in kind and Amat looked it's best when they just nutted up and pushed people off the ball. Power ball wears people down, mentally, phyically and emotionally. IT WORKS!!!
X man needs to throw "outs" and "comebacks" and "flareouts" to the RBS by design. That's it! That what I saw him throw with confidence.
I'm sure Verti doesn't need my help but Amat has always been a tough running team- ALWAYS! Good luck and Amat people stop being such defeatists about the Notre Dame game. Sounds like you've given up before you've played them...It's the Notre Dame team from the Valley not the Brady Quinn team from South Bend after all.

HAVOC IN THE HEIGHTS!
The stats: LA: Thomas has around 630 yds. Wilson: Bernal has 603 yds. LA: Foss has 40 receptions and around 690 yds + 7TD. Wilson: Blandon has 35 receptions and 601 yds + 6TD.
LA: Castaneda has over 1,400 yds passing + 17TD. Wilson: Tomsio had 1,115 yds + 7TD. Similar stats equal a great game. A must see game.

Amat has a record of 8-0 vs Crespi but that means nothing in this new age of Prep Football. Yes it is a must win for Amat because Crespi will beat Loyola. Amat controls their own destiny starting Friday. Forget about who needs to beat who for Amat to make it into the playoffs, Amat needs to use this last regular season home game as a motivational tool to come out and play Amat style football. Everyone is 0-0 in league and because Crespi beat St. Francis more convincingly than Amat means NOTHING! match ups are what makes a games outcome. Amat needs to control that line of scrimmage if they are going to win. I have yet to see them really dominate a D-line. Altho in that loss to Valencia we were blowing Valencia off the ball and ran up points there. Of course the season was young and our defense was not there yet. This is why we play non league. The real team must show up Friday. It becomes real now. This is the new season. Throw all the stats out the window it is who is going to come more prepared for this game. I'd like to see our O-line coach get more into his starters heads and let them know they must beat down their opponent not just sustain blocks. I am giving the edge to Amat in a close one based on home field advantage. Coach Verti needs to really get this team fired up and give them a motivational speech before the game that will send a message that he expects them to come out with a swagger and take this Serra league. we have the tools with or without Gaise. If that O-line plays smashmouth and beats down their opponent McBride or Bonilla or Gamez will break runs off of 30,40,50 yards not the 5,7 they are getting right now......I think we are ready to go battle Lancers. A win here and we may even surprise ND the following week. It is ours for the taking.....On Blue

Just remember that even though Crespi was in DX they had a pre-season schedule filled with the St. Bonnie's, Sherman Oaks Notre Dames, and Birminghams of the world. And while they didn't win all of those games I remember them usually coming very close (3 points loss to Bonnie's). Crespi was in DX for about 3 years too long.

I dont know the last time Amat played Crespi but make no doubt about it, Crespi has an excellent football program. Crespi used to play with the big boys (Big-5 or Div.1) back in the late 80s. They won the Big-5 in 1986 and then they got kinda quiet. Since the 90s, Crespi has been playing in Div 10 because it is a very small all-boys school. But recently, Crespi football has been on the rise again. They have won the Div 10 Championship the last two years and they are favored this year to beat both Amat and Loyola. Crespi did have an easier time with St. Francis than Amat but Amat was missing 4 key starters in that game. Crespi had a more difficult time with Chaminade and almost lost that game if it wasnt for a redzone stand with time expiring. This should encourage Amat fans who saw Amat in a similar defensive battle with Chaminade.
This Crespi team has played a tougher schedule than Amat too. All of Crespi's losses have come againts high ranked teams in their respective divisions. Crespi's losses are only to Corona Centennial and CC Canyon by a combined 5 pts. Crespi got blown out by St. Bonny's 40-14 but St. Bonny's has an awesome team that has only lost (more like smacked 59-13) to Oaks Christian. It will take a flawless game from Amat in order for them to pull out a win againts this Crespi team. There is no time for any QB controversy or any experimentation. Experimentation with the depth chart will spell doom for the Lancers againts this Crespi team.
Amat needs to have a solid gameplan and the time for seeing whose good at what position is over. At this point in the season, it should be known. Contrary to popular belief...There are ONLY 2 automatic playoff spots...NOT 3! This means that if Amat loses to Crespi and Crespi beats Loyola (which is a high probability) Amat will not make the playoffs regardless if Amat beats Loyola. Only ND and Crespi will make it. It looks like this year the at-large playoff spot(s) will go to the Trinity League. I would agree with this because the 4th place team in the Trinity is going to be either Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, Servite, Orange Lutheran, or Santa Margarita. Any of these teams would be able to compete with and beat SO Notre Dame. I read somewhere that there will only be 1 at-large berth for the entire Pac-5...which really really really sucks because of the number of quality teams this year.
This is a must win for Amat. If Amat loses, Amat will more than likely miss the playoffs unless Amat beats Loyola and Loyola beats Crespi. There is no more room for error. There is no more room for games with 10+ penalties and no more room for turnover after turnover. Amat is young but they do have the talent to beat both Crespi and Loyola. It will be interesting to see what Amat team is going to show up at this game. I pray its a team thats a lot more physically healthy than they have been the last month and also much more well prepared.
I'm not even going to try to predict the score of this game because I dont know what Amat's offensive game plan is after last week. I also dont know whose back from injuries,if any. It would be great if Gaisie was back but you can't expect him to be that effective sitting out with an injury for so long. So many questions Lancers...and
so little time.

Crespi is coming to the SGV to play Amat this week. To Amat afficionados: when was the last time these two teams met...in the 70's? Should be a very exciting, hard hitting and entertaining match up this week despite my understanding that Crespi moved up from DX or DIX a few years back where they dominated their division.
Amat is still a maturing and developing young team coached by a twenty something coaching staff. If their OL controls the trenches and entire team executes and play Amat football I give the nudge to Amat in a close scoring game 21-14.
Go watch and cheer and support your only Div I or Pac(???)team representing the SGV.
Go Lancers!!!
