Check out Salesian on Maxprep.com and see the uniforms Salesian wears. New jerseys and helmets, Powder blue top of the line Schutt helmets...nice! Hell when I played I wore a suspension helmet that felt like I was hitting concrete when I went helmet to helmet, ouch!

I'll be wearing my Salesian (black) cap and I'll drop on by and say hi. Hope everyone plays hard and both teams compete.

Take a look at Justin Luiten #72 on the Varsity. He played 3/5 plays as a Jr. and now he's tearing things up as a senior and is a definate DivI prospect! (He's 6' 4" 290 and can move!) Sometimes it comes when it comes. Same for Walsh # 82 6'6" 240 and is also a senior and first time starter that is tearing it up. So you never know.

Is your uncle Eddie Medina going to the game? Tell him the Coronas Boys say hi!

Yeah I don't like the drama of homecoming for a big game. Look what it did to Glendora vs. Chino Hills. I hated the long wait and the girlfriend nonsense that goes on with these things. (Who won, who's crushed, blah blah blah)

When we played at Salesian in 73 and 74 football seasons, Crespi, St. Francis and Notre Dame all had their Homecoming games against us. lol. That was rough! St. Francis gave us hot water ONLY in the locker room. Crespi gave us cold water ONLY.

Regarding Damien:

Well they're a funny team for a couple of reasons.
1) They make teams look bad! (Claremont, Charter Oak, Glendora) and struggle at times with bad teams like Ayala (1st half) and Claremont (4th Quarter)
2) They seem to play to the teams level (St. John Bosco) but leave teams busted up (Los Altos) as well.
3) When they're running the ball well it seems to affect the passing game some how. Like a teter tater. One side up(r) one side down(p).
4) If Damien puts together a solid running and passing game for four quarters they are unbeatable! If they put up a defensive effort like they've been doing and add wrinkles to keep people honest they'll do some serious damage to ANY team.

I think Damien's chances are very good in the playoffs if they beat Chino Hills and Chino this year. I think it goes a long way into solidifying the will of this team to play for a Championship, and not just a league Championship!

I've said it before "Every team decides when they've won enough." When they're satisfied with their season and it's time to call it a day. Sometimes it only takes a few players to make that decision and you get bounced other times it's a collectively silent agreement.

If Damien wins big against the rest of the league, the sky's the limit!

Good luck against Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola!

Let's( Damien and Bishop Amat) run the table in league and p#@% everyone off!

What year did you play at Amat and what position? What's going to be interesting is to see what affect Bishop's win has on St. Francis and more interesting than that is what affect Damien's win will have on Glendora against Chino Hills.

Don't know a thing about "Chaminade" except they beat 7'4" Ralph Sampon's undefeated Virginia team and it made all the papers! (joke)

As for the south hils debate lets not be too quick to critique, first of all south hills is a great program and I bet if they were put in the pac 5 many kids would transfer in just for the same reasons they used to transfer into Amat, mainly exposure, but the way things are going now dont need the extra dose, all teams listed could probably beat each other on any given night. For those who really follow high school football last year south hills barely lost to esperanza, and esperanza played a see saw game against Loyola, so in my book they could have easily played DI last year, no doubt.

As it seems Bishop is #1, no doubt for now, dont go ape s#@t, but the truth is the truth, Los Altos would always beat Damien, reason need someone to throw to mendrun, and coaching just not as good as Gano and crew, no doubt about that no one on the top 10 other than Bishop can beat st francis,

Dont say it damien dad no damien could not do it niether could covina, rowland, west co or any of the also rans, hell glendora beat covina and we all know what DAMIEN did to glendora, so we shall see after this week how every one is really going to do in the next season no more weak schedules to hide behind.

And all the crazy numbers these guys are putting up will slowly begin to average out, as we shall see.

Serra/Trinity Leagues -> Catholic football farms (Top Programs include Mater Dei,Loyola, Santa Margarita, St John Bosco, Amat, Servite, Orange Lutheran, SO Notre Dame,etc.)...No public schools allowed. Even if they weren't there is no way on this earth or mars that South Hills could match the recruiting practices of these schools year in and year out.

Sunset League -> Huskies would have to compete with football farms Los Alamitos, Edison, Newport Harbor and Esperanza EVERY year. Last years SH team was awesome and they still lost to Esperanza. Esperanza lost in the final to Loyola.

South Coast League -> Would be a little easier for the Huskies but they still would have to play year after year againts farm Mission Viejo as well as Capo Valley, San Clemente, Tesoro, etc. Mission Viejo recruits more than some private schools. How else would they schedule Concord De La Salle?

Moore League -> This is by far the easiest league that SH would fit into. The only problem is this little unknown school called Long Beach Poly. LBP has spit out more Div 1 recruits than any other high school in southern california. Poly is unstoppable even when they are having an "off" season. If SH joined this league, and if they had a team like they did last year, they would probably come in 2nd. Because of Poly, SH would probably never see a 1st place league championship again.

It's totally possible that if South Hills had a team like they did last year they could compete in the Pac-5 . The problem is that South Hills does not recruit like the top Pac-5 schools. Because of this, SH could never match the roster depth these teams have EVERY year. Their 2004 and 2006 teams prove this. So yes, they could compete. But no, league championships would be EXTREMELY rare and South Hills would never again win a CIF SS Championship. The Pac-5 is actually stronger than Division 1 last year. And before anyone looks at Amat's record and scores and makes any conclusions based on Amat's performance, you must keep in mind that this Amat team is starting only 2 seniors on defense, has a rookie young coach, and has been fighting the god-forsaken injury bug all season. Bishop Amat will be the underdog when they play Crespi, Loyola, and SO Notre Dame.

Some of the above mentioned make me look a crème puff compared to what I have written. Heck some of these “Bagpiper�? honks would not even last a week in a full blown Amat blog they’d be whining like little Chris’s. I can hear them now…�?Oh that mean Bluorca smacked me down. Wah Wah Wah.

And heck that poor coach over there at the “SGValleys Golden Dome�? is in his first year. Give me some credit at least I waited about four years to start evaluating my guy.

All through my life I strived to be the best and I accept nothing less. Oh sure I have failed but I have sucked it up learned from it and turned things around. That guy across from me wasn’t going to beat me again NEVER. And if I did get beat again I know that when he went home that night he knew who he was up against that day.

I surround myself with leaders not followers and I “expect�? others to do the same. Some times being brutally honest bothers people; hell I have never been politically correct and won’t tolerate having those around me PC either.

So maybe I should just become a kinder, gentler softer Mike the Clone. I’ll consider it but don’t count it; it’s not my style. Wasn’t raised that way, wasn’t coached that way, didn’t play that way and didn’t coach that way.

I's sorry it was Los Alamitos in 2002, Loyola in 2003 and we got beat by Los Alamitos in 2004. I thought the 2004 team had the most experienced line but they underachieved. I think 2003 was the start of the end to DiFori. They did want his head than. Your answer, yes. They could have been two time defending D-1 champions if DiFori could have kept the intensity up all year.

But right now, go get Chino Hills guys, and O-line keep run blocking like you have and give your guy some time to make plays and QB...go for it!

I was at that 2004 quarterfinal game as well as the 2003 game.

In 2003 we had Los Alamitos beat in the rain but if I remember there were three fumbles around mid field by our running back that cost the game. Great game.

In 2004 I thought someone was going to go onto the field and straingle DiFore. It was 4 and less than a foot and Amat was running the ball down Loyola's throat. The field goal was for 40+ and the kicker was not known for a big legg. I still to this day do not know what Defori was thinking, they were calling for his head on the collection plate.

I'm sorry, there must be at least one kid at GT who can kick, and someone else who can long snap, and if the staff won't look for those kids, they must not think it's that important. It's FOOT ball.

If the wing-T is so good, why doesn't Ohio State run it? Oh well, another 8-3 /7-4 and "next year".

In the previous year, Amat was leading against Los Alamitos late in the third quarter with all momentum going for Amat until Amat was called for roughing the punter! I was seating midfield and the mud had caused the guy to slide underneath the punter. I believe Los Alamitos would win it all during that year as well.

Thanks for the explaination on the wing-T, it sounds like you have seen this before and seen the results first hand. I know it is to late to change it but they can mix other formations with the wing-T to open up some kind of passing game and re-open the running game before Edmonds gets seriously hurt. Like I said before, come up with new formations and plays, treat Chino Hills like a pre-season game, work on the new stuff. Get the injured kids healthy and get the fun back in the game. They need to run the table on the last three games of the season to have a play-off spot.

Coach P won't run from the shotgun. He's a wing-T/Delaware guy. He was so at Ayala, and Damien too. That offense is easy to teach and to run, and you don't need exceptional players to execute it. That offense has been around for 60 + years, and still wins maybe 70 percent of the games it plays. The problem is, it seldom wins the big game. Delaware teams don't win many championships. Teams that run it will, every so often, make first place, but not usually move beyond the second round of the playoffs. It is a great offense when you play weaker teams, but when it faces a savvy D co-ordinator who takes away the FB, and doesn't rotate the secondary, and makes the center block backside, the most you have is a buck sweep. You won't win many games when that's all you have...witness last Friday. Unfortunately, this is the best that Glendora will have..If only's - and almosts. It's like taking your sister to the prom. Coach P. is a good coach, but he's never had a kicking game and his passing game is always suspect.

Believe me, the kids know of the hidden talents you have not given a chance. Coach P is a good coach and I am sure he is working on these problems but just in case, someone get the word out to him. I'm finding that things don't always look as they appear and that sometimes we don't always know the background behind what happens on the field. Being an all-boys school, we kind of expect to get ragged on from boys at co-ed schools. BUT when coaches, who are supposed to show a lot more class than that, spew those kinds of things, it tends to make you a little "grumpy" and do things you normally would not. I cannot believe that Pasquie would have endorsed this kind of behavior and would hope that he sees to it that, in the future, his coaches have as much class as he has.

The question is do we want to take it to another level? Personally yes! But with posts from certain "bagpiper" fans that's where they want to be and are happy with it. You know BUCK that "feel good about yourself politically correct bullshit zone" We are where we are going to be with "Coach P". But you have people at GHS that are satisfied with what they see.

I do not like to complain about a problem without a solution, so here is BUCK's take for a successful season: write Chino Hills off, use them like a pre-season game. For the next two weeks, add some new sets, more shotgun sets, run from the shotgun, introduce quick passes to Edmonds, Vega and your tight end once in awhile. Stick with one QB (QBing is all about confidence) GET A KICKER!!, who can make easy field goals. Stop giving your opponets only 60 yards to go for a touchdown on all kickoffs, boot the ball toward the endzone or at least scrib it, give yourself a shot at getting the ball. Run some more razzle-dazzle, I liked the reverse pass (although everything took place between the tackles which, even if you did get fooled, you didn't have very far to go to recover), I just didn't like the timing of the call. Experiement next week with new plays that no one expects from you and have fun with homecoming, rest the injured, get your kids healthy and finish 7-3 with a shot to get into the playoffs. You have the coaching and the talent to be a better team than what you have been playing. Re-group, hold your heads up and stay together. Go Tartans.

that shouldn't have been taken away as there was nobody near the qb to deflect the pass that the refs claim was deflected, it clearly rolled off his hand behind him as he attempted to throw.
I'll give it to your "D" as they played well but West Co shot themselves in the foot as they fumbled three straight times on their first three posessions, and those fumbles wern't caused by hits either, but a win is a win & C.Oak got the win.

Damien does indeed have a good team but the fact is that Damien LOST to a Los Altos team that LOST to St. Francis and Diamond Ranch?!?!?! I dont see how there is any room for speculation here IF you stick to the facts. Another thing to consider is that the Amat/St. Francis game should never have went into overtime in the first place. Amat had them BEAT! It was only because of a St. Francis INT at their own 10 yrd line with regulation time running out that saved the Knights from an imminent game winning FG by the Lancers. One must ponder what the Amat/St. Francis score would have been if Amat was not missing 4 of their starters....

But all these other facts aside, I would rather see Amat #2 or #3 if the number of Amat haters increases because Amat is ranked #1 in the SGV.

To all those bloggers that said that Amat football is dead or not the best school to play at anymore, THANK YOU! You ALL made this victory even sweeter! May God forgive you all for your harsh but innocently misguided words. I already have.

Los Altos/Diamond Ranch...
You guys know how much I preach about strength of schedule but I never would have picked DR over LA. Did LA have some severe injuries or something? I'm forced to retract my original claim about LA winning league and their division. Los Altos is going to have a tough time in league. And there have been many who think that Los Altos could hang in the Pac-5 but after seeing Edison beat DR 35-6 and Servite beat DR 50-0, I dont think there will be anyone left to make or believe such a bold claim. ONLY NOW are many Non-Amat bloggers starting to realize what I'm talking about when I use the term "high caliber teams."

West Covina/Charter Oak...
I am guilty of underestimating CO...Congratulations to the Chargers for their upset win over the Bulldogs. WC was healthy for the most part right? I really do not know what to make of this Bulldog team anymore. I know they have talent but this loss to CO also forces me to dramatically change my high opinion of WC. I now believe that Glendora would probably beat WC and Damien would destroy them. It now also makes more sense to me why Mater Dei was subbing out their starters so often when they played WC. If Mater Dei left their starters in the entire game, well, ya'll know what would have happened...

Damien/Glendora...
There is nothing in this game that surprises me. I did not expect the Tartans to give Damien much competition. Maybe next year...

And what about the decision to go for the 2pt conversion for the win in overtime. Probably 90% of the coaches in this valley would not have made that call at that time knowing what the reprocussions would have been if it failed. I don't think he cared what anyone thought except his players. This was an opportunity for those young men to believe in themselves and to control their own destiny and that one play they will never forget the rest of the year. Cudos to Mark Verti.

Amat may never win another game this year or they could win the rest of their games and go to CIF Playoffs but both the Players and the Coaches grew up a lot last night against a very fine St Francis Football team. You are starting to make Friday nights very exciting again. Thank you. Go Lancers!! I'm outta here.

There was no secrete to what Glendora had to do last night, ONE, keep the explosive offense of Damien off the field by running the ball, TWO defend the pass. Neither one was done with much effectiveness hence Damien was victorious. Coaches’ coach and Players play, hopefully the coaching staff at GHS will begin damage control this morning by taking accountability for the debacle that occurred last night, game film does not lie. Sitting in the stands one could sense that the other side was ready to play football, there was no panic from the coaching staff and there was more passion, excitement from the Spartan players enough though GHS drew first blood. Props go out to the Damien coaching staff for making the important half time adjustments that allowed them to dominate a poorly non-motivated group of very talented GHS players. You all know the saying: If it isn’t broke don’t mess with it, well this team needs to be repaired ASAP otherwise the GHS coaching staff will find itself week 11 sitting in the standing watching a playoff game as oppose to being on the side lines coaching in one.

Some people are good with numbers, I "see" Football really well. Sometimes that's annoying but rarely is it being boastful or mean. It just is. I just "see" the game, "see" the tweaks, or "see" the fixes. Mostly I "see" potential.

The Game:
It was fun to see a game were everything came together for so many people on so many levels. I really believe Damien Football matured tonight and took a big step forward. Coaches made adjustments,gathered players and coached with confidence, players stayed focused. Head Coach Scott Morrison showed his players tonight at "midfield" and during the game what happens when someone gets in your face and challenges you. You back them down and shut them up! Punch a bully in the mouth and ask him if he wants more! They start it you finish it! 'nuff said!

The defense was major, major major. Running a four man front and putting Rabe(best game this year) in 3 technique, BRILLIANT! This kid is a load next to Luiten. Justin Luiten is as raw a talent (6'4 1/2" 285 lbs and can run) as I have ever seen, EVER! Tremendous upside! This is why Div I athletes redshirt.

Shuffling "Bigs" and letting them get rough in the middle let Glendora KNOW it was in for a rough and sleepless night!
Putting the LBs(Gomez, Hile, Stokes) back and letting them come up and bring the "wood" is what a LB lives for! (Big hits = momentum changers) "Sustained pressure" is what Defense is all about. Bend don't break, adjust, fix and dominate! They score , make them pay! Offense may win you games but Defense wins you Championships! Walsh as always was solid,(Does this kid ever smile?)talk about a Senior Quest! Keep doing what your doing big man!

Offense was the Chris Marine show!(again) This kid is (2) game balls shy and counting! (Season changing effort!) That's what happens when a senior sees the clock ticking on his HS career and decides, "I ain't going out like THAT!" and let's it ALL come out! In the words of Earth, Wind and Fire,"It's a beautiful thing! Don't you agree!!" Special props to the O-line, Smitty (hardest working big man in the Valley) DeLaTorre, Murrillo,Pittman(work, work work, work, work-ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!)Don't know the other names but everyone played like Coach Bubba preaches and teaches. Get Mean, get tough and get after it!

Jr.Kicker Dijon Miller is just sick! The velocity he gets off the tee is DIV I caliber! 53 yard field goal means Damien can score 3 ways, Passing, Running and Special Teams! Big catches by Brian Lee( TD iced the game, and you owe me 6 more) and Taylor Herrera (showed that stretching the field, opens everything up!)This kid is s.p.e.c.i.a.l. mark it down! Pertusati ("insane" 1 hander called back) Damien's just begining to jell, and that's scary! But alot of hard work is still to be done and tonight you took the first step. Pre-game prediction 42-10 game final 33-13. No one's perfect!

Calling Justin Luiten's Dad and hearing the swelling of pride in his voice knowing his son's hard work is paying off.

And when it came down to it, Verti had the gonads to go for the win and end the game right then and there, no way was he going to send out his offense or his rightfully tired defense back on the field for another round of OT.

The 2-point conversion was no good. Looking at pictures and watching the film he was out of bounds and then dove into the endzone. Good hard battle for both teams and the Refs played a traditional BA game. Good Luck to both teams and if anyone has the same ref that reffed tonight dont expect any good calls. And i have a question. Can tape be sent in to CIF and CIF takes a look and changes the call? Is that allowed?
