Charter Oak vs. South Hills ('nuff said)

South Hills coach Steve Bogan will have his usual great game plan for Charter Oak
Aram's take: Spurrier vs. Bowden? That's what it feels like to me. I've got to tell you that I'm as anxious for this game as I would be a CIF championship. It's my vibe that Coach Farrar and Coach Bogan respect each other. I think they're both class acts and I don't want to set the stage for people to think there's going to be a Chaney v. Calipari showdown at midfield after the game. Lets get this right out of the way, both staffs are class acts. Intense, and classy. But I'd be lying if I glossed over the fact that it's my perception that these two coaching staffs really want to win this game. I know, all my devil's advocates out there will say "Aram, of course they want the win, it's the playoffs." Nope, sorry. There's more to it than that. And for whatever reason, even though the players involved weren't around during the rifts of the late 90s and early 00s, I think they all understand what's at stake. OK, I just wanted to say that. Please feel free to comment on whether you think the tension will be thick or if the heat is overblown.

Be aware the 10 game schedule determines stats, not post-season. Maxpreps is not separating the two.

Charter Oak Mom,
Well said! And Happy Thanksgiving! I completely agree with you but to be honest, old resentments are one of the things that turn ordinary football games into great football games. Now I know that these are just kids and all but trust me when I tell you, there is nothing more important in these kid's lives than this friday night coming up. To them, their season is on the line. To them, everything that they have worked for all season can come to a quick halt sooner than later. To them, it's crunch time, razzle dazzle time....hell...right now....IT'S WAR TIME!!! LOL!
GO!
FIGHT!
WIN!
Everyone else,
It does not seem to me that South Hills or Charter Oak are afraid to schedule eachother or anyone else. South Hills has taken on Esperanza the past 2 years and Charter Oak took on Amat at the same time. Both have stepped up and taken on some tough non-league opponents in the recent years. If there is indeed any program in the valley that is afraid of playing anyone else in the valley it is NOT one of these schools. This is going to be a good game with the Chargers coming out on top.

Heh, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Can we just pause for a moment and remember that this is about a group of high school boys playing a GAME they love. For one team of seniors this will be their last game. Lets be thankful for the chance to go out and watch our team play. I'm hoping my chargers win but more importantly I hope they go out and give their best to the game. They are all the boys we love and respect regardless of the outcome of the game. Let's focus on them and not old resentments that should have been buried long ago.

SHHS is weak....what the hell are u talking about? Was there another paper with a different story about CO & SHHS? No one has ever said CO thinks SHHS is weak...but if thats what you need to get up for this game, you're going to need a lot more than that.

To any one who is involved in south hills football. You all read the paper coach lou from C.O. mocks the staff of south hills.i could quote the coach ,but i rather save my mind he critisized the youth of the staff ,and came up with the most ignorant idea that we wont play them in preseason. So if you are affiliated with the husky nation remember that in Charter Oaks eyes we are not equal we are weak and not smart and scared.when you attend the game or play in it remember they think we are less than them ,and remember that how does that make you feel them thinking south hills is WEAK?....................................................

doesn't take a genius to see who's at fault if the valley doesn't want to play CO. maybe they ought to look in the mirror at themselves. CO knows exactly what goes on over there and what corners they cut. visiting 8th graders in their living rooms ring a bell...?

No, just an arrogant coach speaking his mind. I'd like to see his comments after his team loses on Friday!!!!!!!!!!

could it be any better than this!!!? local teams and old rivals. there was sure some "reading between the lines" to be had in the fish-wraps article. can someone re-cap what this is about? i'm either too old or too young to remember. can't wait for friday. to bad 'ol district field won't let us "pre-game warmup" in the lot. we'd probally get soaked by the water truck anyway! let's be loud and proud south hills fans friday night. stand the whole game and have no voice left to cheer with by the end!

That was good stuff in the paper today.. Hey its true SH didnt want to play them anymore...But I dont think it was because they couldnt handle them on the field... 1996 SH 38 CO 6...1997 SH 21 CO 7...1998 CO 14 SH 0... 1999 CO 44 SH 20...2000 CO 17 SH 14...2001 SH 8 CO 2..... 3-3 even tie on the 6 game series.. I think there were problems between coaching staffs, after something was heard during halftime by one of the coaches from one of the schools...However, all that doesnt matter because Friday night they will meet, and both have good teams, this one is a toss up.. I like looking at QB's when making my predictions.. SH senior QB has the edge over CO Sophmore QB... CO's QB will have not seen a defense like SH's that will create problems for him.. (turnovers)... SH has done a pretty good job protecting the ball, However offensive penalties have killed drives.. I'm sorry but Charter Oaks offense has been less than impressive this year..Offense goes to SH...
Both have good defenses, and I honestly couldnt tell you who I think has the better one, I think CO brings it more, and create turnovers better..SH's defense swarms and is fast but lack that standout on D... I think that M.J. from CO is a good athlete, and will have a big game..
I'm going to say this one goes to double overtime, and the Chargers luck runs out...26-24 SH in a thriller that will never be forgotten..

Have no idea what actually happened between the two staffs, but I do know that there are several players on both teams that have been playing together or against each other for the last eight years. I can't wait to see this game. I think it's going to come down to CO's defensive backfield trying to stop Lamison. CO has been having trouble against the passing game. I saw SH play Los Al this year and I was not too impressed with them. But I know that was the first game of the year and that they have improved tremendously. I expect it to be a close game. My football sense says that SH will win a close game, but my heart says CO 17-14.
p.s. What Farrar said about the other teams in the valley is true. CO would love to play the other local teams, but it seems like these teams do not want to schedule them. Personally I think it would be a mistake to play SOME of these teams. CO needs to continue to play the upper division teams in the pre season to better prepare for the very tough league schedule. This is not a swipe at other teams in the area….just my opinion.
Good Luck to both teams. Also good luck to ALL the SGV teams playing this week. Let’s show those out there that don’t know what SGV Football is all about!

You know it true. None of the locals wanted to play us after that four year run in the finals. Only west Covina sacked up. Glendora more recently. Glendora beat us and it made their season. some staffs prefer to patsy their preseason (Bonita, Covina),others toughen up by playing up. Charter Oak and South Hills played a toughen up preseason. Sounds to me that both sides are ready to renew the preseason rivalry.

all i can say is WOW!!!!
i cant believe Farrar was quoted in the paper as saying "we didnt stop the game, they did" ...wow again, talk about putting it out there! No way that can sit well with Bogan and the Huskies. Then Mr Farrar takes it furher and chimes in with the rest of the teams in the local vicinity.."we didnt stop the games with Covina, Northview, Glendora, etc, they did"...INCREDIBLE bulletin board material.
My prediction...Slight edge to South Hills (better staff on the offensive side goes to SH, but better defensive staff goes to CO)
