Rowland is up to No. 2 ... is that a high water mark?

NOTE: It was requested in a lower thread that I post this week's Trib Top 10. Not subscribing to the Tribune is a lot like doing your own taxes - you can get by, but you're probably costing yourself something somewhere. Hey, what am I supposed to say?

1. Damien (6-2) - Holding top spot longer than most.
2. Rowland (7-1) - Bidding for high seed in the playoffs.
3. Covina (7-1) - Hasn't lost since Week 1.
4. Charter Oak (5-3) - Big Lou lives for November.
5. Glendora (5-3) - Devastating first half vs. Chino.
6. Bishop Amat (4-4) - Facing uphill battle in league.
7. Diamond Ranch (4-4) - Among the hottest around.
8. Bonita (6-2) - Under pressure again.
9. South Hills (4-5) - Defense unleashed on West Covina
10. Duarte (6-2) - Living up to potential, thus far.

If you include Chino Hills in the SGV, then it's:
Damien
Chino Hills
Glendora

Put Glendora in the same league with the likes of Rowland, Covina, and Charter Oak and they go un defeated.
Sierra league is the much tougher league.

There is no problem saying D & CH are better then Glendora, let the record show that these other teams that these people are placing ahead of Glendora are weaker, especially Covina!

There is nothing wrong with pride in your team, just don't be blinded by it.
Look at the record!

I agree Damien should be in the #1 spot. But no ranking for Chino Hills? Thursday is going to be one game for the Sierra League history book. Is it going to be televised or at least filmed so we fans can order a DVD so we hard core fans can view it again and again as we grow old? Thanks for all your good honest reporting on ALL teams, regardless of their ranking.

Stop the wishfull thinking Covina, Rowland, Charter Oak.
Don't forget Tartans beat Covina 3 years in a row!
Get real!

i'd have a tie at #1 between Rowland and Covina, they both have the best records in the valley. covina just dominates, are you telling me that them limiting aaron harris to 16 total isn't impressive?? don't forget who's going to play D-1 next season, they dominated them. how many shut outs do they have to teams who haven't been shut out all season?? i don't even go to covina, but i give them lots of credit. Mc D wasn't player of the year last year for nothing.

In response to Fall of 75(Your Wrong) I didnt say that Brandon Bolden wasnt a hell of a player I said he made one big play. Honestly I think Bolden is an excelent lineman on both sides of the ball. Its nice to see that one of his competators is given him props.

BIG DADDY said:

Look Ruff Ruff no one is hating on Rowland.Yall are having a good year this year. You have to understand that it is a little crowed at the top. The Rowlands and Covinas are pushing there way in. The Glendoras, Damiens, and Bonitas and not use to this. It has been, South Hills, Amat, Damien, Los Altos at the top for years. We are the new dogs on the block and some folks are not use to this. Just keep playing hard and yall will get your respect.

I agree with most of you that Damien is not getting the respect they deserve. I watched them play this year and they are good. I think Chino Hills will be in trouble. All of yall just keep bangin and yall will get yours.

FOR ALL YOUR INFORMATION, MIKE HAS A READING DISABILITY. AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN RSP FOR READING. COACH THOMAS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CLASSES HE IS IN. HOW DARE YOU CALL HIM DUMB, YOU ARE A VERY IGNORANT, MEAN AND BITTER MAN, AND WHEN YOU CALL HIM DUMB YOU ARE CALLING ALL THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN THE SGV WITH DISABILITIES DUMB. (AND BELIEVE ME YOU WOULD BE SUPPRISED HOW MANY ATHLETES IN ALL SPORTS ARE IN RSP)
WHAT IS THIS SITE ABOUT????? THE SPORT OF FOOTBALL OR BASHING KIDS WHO YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY ABOUT HIS ATHLETIC ABILITYS. HE MAY NOT BE THE SMARTEST KID IN THE WORLD, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO FOOTBALL...HE IS A GENIUS!
LAST COMMENT: ALL THE PLAYERS AT SOUTH HILLS THAT
PLAYED WITH MIKE IN JAA, AND COACH BOGAN WILL ACKNOWLEDGE AND HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED HIM AS BEING A GREAT PLAYER SO WHY DONT YOU TALK TO YOUR TEAM ABOUT HIM!!!

Mike said:

Greetings!

I am Mike the Clone and you are not!

With that said:

I had to chime in, Plaid Man what I think Aram is saying is that since we have beaten those top three teams early in the SGV the rational should be that we should have beaten Capo, beat Rowland by at least a touchdown or two and made it close or beat Damien. (Damien is not getting a fair shake as far as I’m concerned they are a good ball club) I am speculating that those losses and close games hurt us ranking wise. But that’s speculation on my part. We control our own destiny now against teams we should beat. Hence the “what have you done for me lately statement from the big guy!

Hey Joe is Joe he is a Raider honk just like us “Bagpiper honks. I don’t agree with him but hey he has every right to be bragging right now. We should have left Rowland bloodied and still laying down on that field of theirs.

But nooooo… we were still frecking around with our offence going into league play. That’s our coach’s fault! That offence should have been set against Charter Oak (week three) with either the sophomore QB or “Crookie and it wasn’t. Hell we were still screwing around with it in week six. (Oh here I go again pissing the button wearers off…Kum-by- yah, Lord, Kum-by-yah).

With the talent this team has it should have only one loss and that would be to Damien. They out coached us were prepared and just plain out whooped our butts.

Hey we didn’t get our act together until half way through this season and by that time it’s too late. Look at us now we’re just trying to not choke on that big fat piece of chicken we swallowed.

So Plaid Man my friend I feel your pain.

Out!

Mike the Clone!

Im very interested to see what happens in the Rowland v Wilson game. A non-league game which has no impact to Rowland for an outright league championship. So how long do you keep the starters in? You can't afford injury at this point and with Rowland's lack of success in previous years, tells me that a league championship is more important than hoping for a seed in the playoffs. Even at 9-1, I'm not sure they will receive a seed, since I feel the San Antonio League is one of the weaker leagues in the Southwest division. A possible first round match up with Los Altos may not be a bad draw. You hate to open up against a school that has such rich football tradition, but you certainly don't want to open up with a Century, Sea View or Suburban league opponent. Let's hope for a first half blow out against Wilson and get the starters out of there.

Pdognite,
There you go popping off! Look man our leagues are our leagues. Every one has said the Damien is one of the best teams in the area. Covina is doing its job and winning games. Don't start bashing the Colts. As for Gelndora the record speaks for its self. At the 10 spot is good enough for me. The Colts deserve a little respect, they are playing good football. So chill G! Back off the Colts!

Gentlemen...

Rowland has every right to be at #2....FALL OF 75, yes, the Huskies played a good game and should have rightly so beat Rowland. There QB has good vision of the field and Rowland's DB's failed to communicate....but when you pass almost every play, your bound to make mistakes. The mistake was throwing to Brandon....and then your QB got run over....what was that! He looked like a kicker or punter trying to make the last ditch effort of a tackle...pretty weak.

Brandon is a big boy and a decent punter...but as far as opening up gapping holes...I have to dissagree...furthermore, the Coaching Staff should not be tolerating his laziness...Do you ever notice that everytime he punts...he lets his teammates do the tackling and he just takes his tme, walks up the field and gets into his stance....where's the hustle? and Chase? A class Act? Young man, Chase needs to stop being a show boat...if he would have been working out in the summer, he would have been a much better QB...He has limited vision of the field. He is a decent option QB at best. How many times did you, yourself get pummeled by Norys...I'm sure your RB's & WR's were a little sore on Saturday...

To put it into perspective....Rowland is a solid Team that should see at least a couple rounds in the play-offs.

Van Earl wishes you a nice day.......I'm Out!

Aram said:

Plaid Man,

It's real simple, this is a case of what have you done for me lately? Glendora's win over Chino was nice, but they lost two straight before that. Two of the teams above them haven't lost since playing Glendora. All three are sitting on league titles.

Plaid Man said:

Aram, how do you rationalize having 3 teams GLendora beat ahead of them? I understood a bit last week but coming off a huge win over a tough foe and now playing their best ball of the season the past 2 weeks (I'd LOVE to play Cov or Row again with our passing game now in synch!) It just doesn't make sense. These kids beat FOUR teams in your top 10 (nobody else comes close that) and only loses to #1 Damien. Other 2 loses to teams that would beat all 3 of those. I thought you saw what I saw last Thurs., but I guess you were too busy talking with Le Duc (wink). Still enjoy your work though.

joe said:

Aram, That would be sweet being i want to los altos back in the early 80's and my kid plays for rowland how cool would that be win or lose, but i think i would pull for los altos you know that pride thing you get when you play for la,i always tell my kid los altos is always in my heart but i cheer for him.

The guy who post huh, relax homer you don't make sense little man ive been saying all along rowland is good what you talking about.

i play for south hills..and you said brandon bolden made one play you do not know football i went up against him for 2 years he is one of the best offensive guards i have ever played against he had multiple pancakes opening holes all season for rowland and he wasnt that easy to pass block....get your mind rite bro! brandon and me went back and forth all game he is a stud!

hah said:

ur pretty sad...that's all i have to say...i'd love to see that matchup and rowland get owned by los altos....

joe, rowland is a good team but ur making em really hate them....chase is a class-act and thats all i cvan say...as for you, wake up and read a book because u have absoluetely no knowledge about high school football...u r what most call a "homer"..

Aram said:

Joe,

Would you be excited about a Los Altos vs. Rowland first round matchup? If LA gets in, that's a live possible first round game. That would set the Valley on fire!

joe said:

I love it raider haters, glendora fan deal with it rowland #2 were 7-1 what are you and if we played you again we would own you like the first time haha you are a first round, can you say knock out.Aram you know me i got to believe in my boys like you said 1 point from being 8-0 it has to mean something.I would love to play amat so we could own them to.

what? said:

Well, I have some questions for this....I think Covina should be number 2 because they are very impressive and have won every game they were supposed to..(That includes the Glendora game because Glendora should have and did win that game!)I think CO ahead of Glendora is questionable but not a huge stretch..Rowland at number 2 is a joke.....Replay that game again and see what Gelndora does to them this time...
Anyway, I actually agree with most of this...I would change it to this though....
1.Damien
2.Covina
3.Glendora
4.Charter Oak
5.Rowland
6.Bishop Amat
7.Los Altos
8.Diamond Ranch
9.Bonita
10.South Hills

Good job on the rankings though AT..Don't let Joe get to you about Rowland..They were who Glendora thought they were and so they woke up and put the smack on them in the second half...Glendora is better than most people give them credit for...

Chino Hills and Capo Valley both should have been wins for Glendora.....
Damien was a tough loss to swallow but you gotta get over it..Damien is a great team..

fall of 75 said:

Hey Joe
Your odds are better on winning the 50/50 if SHHS gets another shot at Rowland in CIF.

And Aram comeon; giving Rowlands Bolden Honorable Mention for his Interception returned for a TD. I gotta admitte it was impressive watching that big boy run and he did do a great job but it was only one play. Yeah I know that Rowland came out on top in that exchange. Good luck and hope to see you again in CIF

VANNER said:

South Hills ranked # 9 ?
Thats fine, I have been to every game and they are really strong the "young team mistakes" seem to be history and the running game has finally established itself. ANY D6 TEAM South Hills has played this year can and will be beat if seen in CIF. This team has GELLED! Pop the mold and let this GREEN MONSTER eat some D6 grub.

Aram said:

Joe,

You'd have lost all your cash in the Glendora game. But, you'd have had some good tough beat stories to tell your friends ... "We were up 21-7 at halftime ... we got to the 12 late in the fourth and decided to play for three." Ahh, I love it.

joe said:

rowland should be #1 ill put my money on rowland aganist any team ,but to bad i don't bet so save it.

ruff said:

Aram,
Found this post of yours from back in April. The 5-5 thing looks like a real possibility. except for a few of the outcomes, you did a pretty good job of forcasting.

April '06 Post
The Huskies are likely to be up a division this coming season. No worries, they would have won Division VI this past season had they been in it. But this year might be a different story, though. Coach Steve Bogan and crew say goodbye to a dynamic senior class. The lower levels are stocked well, however, but they're going to need some seasoning. Two years ago, the Huskies really boosted their nonleague schedule. It didn't work well in '04, but last year they hung in well with everyone, including D-1 Esperanza.

W0: Los Altos (Loss)
W1: at Trabuco Hills (Win)
W2: La Habra (Loss)
W3: at Claremont (Toss-up)
W4: Fullerton (Win)
W5: at Rancho Cucamonga (Loss)
W6: Walnut (Win)
W7: Rowland (Toss-up)
W8: at West Covina (Loss)
W9: Nogales (Win)
W10: Bye

Would 5-5 be so bad? Probably not if you consider the Huskies will again be definite contenders in the SAL. But at this point, you can't like their chances against WestCo and Rowland enters the season with the more veteran team. By the time Week 7 hits, South Hills could be ready to rumble with Rowland and that game is a toss-up and will likely be for second place. The non-league schedule is ambitious and it could mean the team takes its lumps early. If healthy in November, SH will be locked and loaded for a run in the playoffs.

Not giving up on this year yet, but with the recent play of such a young team the future looks bright.
