POSTGAME: Talk your smack or cry me a river ....

Friday's scores
Charter Oak 35, South Hills 0 (Complete domination by CO. Very sad day for the Huskies as Coach Steve Bogan's mother passed away early Friday morning.)
Duarte 41, Santa Clara 38, OT (Duarte's a football school again!)
Covina 47, St. Joseph 32 (Onward and upward)
Los Altos 37, Foothill 21 (The OC teams rarely do well against Gano, why would that be?)
Temescal Canyon 42, Damien 16 (ouch!)
Trabuco Hills 14, West Covina 6 (Trouble scoring at home can't happen in late November)
Aram's thoughts on CO's win over South Hills: First of all, if you say you expected that and you weren't surprised, then you're a flat out liar. If anybody in the entire Valley should sit here and say they thought CO could play like that, it should be me. Forget about who I picked in the game, just remember that I had CO No. 1 in the area for the entire off-season and started them No. 2 in Valley. Do you see how stupid all of this sounds? What anybody thought four months ago or an hour before last night's game doesn't really matter. All that matters is what took place after kickoff. Charter Oak played like a team on a mission. I think that's probably the best the Chargers will ever look this season, but I am hope I'm wrong because that will mean a CIF title if I am. It's funny, but when you reach the playoffs, it all comes down to the very best players making the biggest plays. You saw that out of Michael Johnson last night. He was the difference in the game in the first half. His first TD was an amazing catch that gave you the impression he was playing against boys. His pick return made him look like a USC defensive back playing in a Pop Warner game. The guy is just an awesome player who got to show it to everybody last night. Also, I think CO's offensive line really controlled things. South Hills just wasn't making stops and it's because CO was able to run the ball. The Chargers' offensive line had taken some heat this year for being big and looking good in uniform, but not dominating up to their appearance. That wasn't the case at all last night. My whole reason for hyping CO at the beginning of the season was because they had all of the elements to have a huge year - mammoth O-line, D-1 receiver/dback, veteran QB, great coaching and a psycho middle linebacker. They simply passed the look test. It's great to see that the Chargers never quit when things were going bad early on and are now playing their best football.
About South Hills - the Huskies have nothing to be ashamed of. It was a hard week. Coach Bogan's mom went into the hospital early in the week and as we all know, she passed on Friday. Now, isn't that typical of the kind of coaches we have here in the SGV? He loses his mom in the morning and yet he's out coaching his team later that night. There wasn't a person in the world who would've blamed him for missing last night's game, but Coach Bogan wasn't going to do that to his team. The Huskies just didn't have it. Charter Oak was simply better and it showed. But it should be remember that SH lost a ton from last year's team and struggled badly earlier this season. Yet, at the end of the day, SH wins a share of the SAL and upsets a seeded team on the road in the playoffs. Like Bogan said, they'll be back. Not quite so sure we'll be able to say that CO coach Lou Farrar who could hang it up if his team sends him out the right way. It could be the storybook ending to a storybook career.

OCFOOTBALL & Randy,
Easy there boys. You guys have a solid team over there, but you will not be the "toughest opponent of the year" for them, sorry. That would be Sunset league champion Esparanza, who beat El Do 32-14 and also beat Edison 38-0 this year. Another bit of info for you....they're not that small. You make it sound like they're some squirrly finesse team, but they were way more physical than you were. That RB #40 is a load who runs hard. It should be a decent game, but like I said before...I think you guys are in trouble.

DONT GET SO BENT OUT OF SHAPE...YOU SAID IF COVINA EVER PLAYED YOU THAT YOU WOULD STOMP ON US, AND IM TELLING YOU WE DID PLAY YOU, OUR VARSITY TEAM PLAYED YOUR VARSITY TEAM WHEN THEY WERE FRESHMANS.(AND BEAT YOU 55-0) AS WELL AS OUR RESERVE GAME...THEY ARE THE SAME TEAMS...JUST 3 YEARS LATER....WE ARE STILL THE SAME TEAM.... 10 AND 0 THEN AND NOW. IM SO GLAD TO SEE THAT YOUR NOT THE SAME TEAM YOU WERE THEN!!!!! THANK GOD FOR YOU...ANYWAYS GOOD LUCK IN YOUR GAME!

Could not agree more. Damien had that goal line problem since the Claremont game. No Jumbo Package. Another problem was being in 4th and goal time and again all season. Even against Chino Hills, Damien ran the RB up the middle and Marine leaps the pile and falls backward and has the presence of mind to break outside for a TD. Chino Hills stops Damien at the one and no Mendrun heroics to win the game. You're right #44 played great and he's a Jr. so is the safety #2 so they'll be back.
Agree with the shoot out observation. Maybe Morrison thought that spread was going to stretch them out. But that left the TC line to pin their ears back and rush Mendrun knowing the running game was stuffed with no lead blocker. Seen Mendrun get sacked as he scrambled before but that night the pocket just collasped time and again and still the spread when TC had average CBs. Option running teams have avg CB because how do they get better? At practice with a QB that completed 20 passes all year, not likely.
Anyway it'll be interesting to see if TC wins it all. I hope they do. That way at least you lost to the eventual Champion, just like Canyon Country last year.
Posted by: Running Wild | November 29, 2006 12:23 AM
The only problem with that 4th and goal play was giving it to the running back. I would have liked to see Mendrun roll out so that he could have had more options. TC is not unstoppable. Centennial (with a healthy Ryan Bass) and Norco could drop them easily. Damien could have kept their drives going if they didn't run ball on second downs. The passing game was there, they just abandoned it at the wrong times. As for the defense; the line didn't show up and the linebackers kept trying to tackle TC's back straight up. #44 for Damien and the safeties were the only ones game enough to go at that running back. Damien needed to turn the game into a shootout to win. Thats how Los Osos kept up.
Posted by: C.I.F | November 28, 2006 4:36 PM
CIF-
That was well said. The tide turned on the first goal line stand at TC's 1 on Damien's first posseseeion. Damien sucker punched TC and TC held, winked and marched down 99 yards. The game was essentially over right there. You could feel "awe" coming from the Damien sidelines and stands. Didn't Damien have a "Jumbo" package for short yardage or goal line stands?
Mendrun as always played out of his mind. But how did 4 other teams beat this team if they were unstoppable? And how did Los Osos put up 42 points on that defense? Still puzzled by that.
Posted by: Running Wild | November 28, 2006 3:45 PM
No one needed to beat the offense when that kid was going to outscore them on his own. As far as Damien's offense; they beat themselves when they figured out they weren't going to catch up.
Posted by: C.I.F | November 28, 2006 2:58 PM
I understand who beat the defense. It wasn't one man. RB 311 52 carries, QB 210 20 carries.
Who beat the offense?
Posted by: Running wild | November 28, 2006 12:15 AM
One player beat the Damien team on Friday. That running back carried the ball over 45 times and had over 300 yards along with 5 touchdowns. Yes that better player beat that whole team. He outscored the entire offense of Damien in the first half. He should have kicked the PAT's. The worse part is when they ran the ball on 4th and 6 on their own 38 yard line. They knew that kid was not going to be stopped by that defense after the first drive.

I just read all the trash talk on here. It's really amazing that every body thinks this guy mj is even a candidate Hes good but but maybe his stats are just well hidden. Or better yet it seems that maybe his own teammates are the ones blowing him up. I have followed high schoolball and I must say that stats mean something. Passing recieving running tackles and most of all heart on the field not peoples opinions cause they are like a holes everybody has one just too bad that you have to blow up your own team & or your own self 1 thing I do respect about teams that are left from sgv is you do not see Los Altos boasting and or bragging but just handling there business and this team is stacked passing, stud recievers, and tight end and a good run game they have probably the most talent all around Castanedas stats show it Foss' stats definitely show it as well as Thomas not all no. 1 with exception of maybe Foss but very balanced opposite side of ball Dbs line and backers and also safety that is one of the leaders in league on tackles Gotta mean something. not one good game or two good game but alot of consistency all season long. Hats off to tight lipped conquerors who arent all talk but you guys are walking while all others are talking.

first off this years seniors only won 1 game as freshmen and that win was aginst garey! so beating that co freshman team is NOTHING to brag about...2nd who cares about jr all american that was what 5-6 years ago!! the coaching is the difference the group that was supposed to be the worst class in co history has taken the team the farthest its been in d-6...covina hasnt beat co since 96...(97, 98 , 99 , 00, 01) u guys got worked by co...play the huskies play the conquerors play the chargers then u can call yourself a man...ganesha san dimas northview and ontario christian are the difference here brotha!

ASK YOUR TEAM IF THEY REMEMBER THOSE GAMES...SAME PLAYERS FROM COVINA...WE HAVE IT ON FILM IF YOU NEED TO REFRESH THEIR MEMORY!!!!! ALSO ASK JOHNNY CRESPO, AND THE BUTIKOFERS IF MCD DID NOT BEAT THEM IN JUNIOR ALL AMERICAN AS WELL!!! WE HAVE FILM ON THAT TOO!!!! COVINA WOULD LOVE TO PLAY CO ANYTIME, WE HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS IN THE PAST WITH THEM...WHY NOT THE PRESENT. BELIEVE ME CO HAS COVINAS RESPECT AS DO ALL THE SGV TEAMS, TO BAD THEY DONT GET THE SAME RESPECT BACK.

Excuses 'R" US!
Better player? "ONE" better player? Since when did one player beat a whole team? Four teams beat that "better player" opps four "better coaches" beat that "better player" lead TC team. Damien wasn't one of them. Also did that "better player" play defense as well. Every team that played TC scored on them,21,20,38,23,33,21,35,Los Osos scored 42. Damien put up the same amount of fight as Diamond Bar 42-3.
Let's see what's Damien's new slogan
"One Second, One yard, One player away from CIF glory".
Posted by: CIF , yeah right! | November 27, 2006 2:00 PM
Seeing that Damien game last week was hard to take in. It was a great season, they just fell to a better team. Oh let me rephrase that "better player". That running back just completely ran over everything in his way. It was kind of funny how they announced that he broke the record for carries in a season. TC basically challeneged Damien's manhood with their offense. It was like saying, "I'm going to get the ball and run it down your throats and there is nothing you're going to do to stop me." And guess what, Damien couldn't stop him. The defensive line was pushed all over the place and the linebackers were being dragged into the endzone. It was still a great year for the Spartans and things will be looking up in the future

Boy I am schocked the South Hills got blown out. Please somebody tell me what happen. I picked Charter Oak in a close game, but WOW not a blow out. Please help me to understand why a team like South Hils (The Best In the Area) could lose so bad. This leads me to another point, how a team like Covina (who doesn't play anybody) makes it to the Semis. The South Hills answer they didn't show up. They got there buts handed to them by the BETTER TEAM!
Covina for the first time this season had to play 4 quarters of football. They were behind at the half. They came out in the second half and started passing the ball and St. Joseph had no answer(St Joe really had no answer for the Colts all night). The score of the game does not tell the story. The penilties killed Covina on several of there drives. That is something Covina will need to fix! Like is said before if you an't for us you are against us. Covina fans on this site has done nothing but been supportive of our team. Fans from all over have done nothing but put us down. You got Glendora, South Hills, Amat all talikng about how good they are and how they play the best team in preseason. There fans are always bashing the Colts. Well Boys look at us now! We are still in! If you would have seen the game on Friday you would have seen good football team on the field. St. Joe's Thomas Sua rushed for 183 yards. That was the most yards given up by the Colts D all season. They were flags thrown all night against the Colts. St Joe was strong and fast. They were pushed to the limits. They hung in and won the game. No one from the Colts are claiming that we are the best. We are just stating a fact: WE ARE GOOD!! Covina doesn't have to prove anything to any body. The kids go out and play for one thing, Covina High! They are proud and have been playing very hard and it shows. They are a tough bunch of kids and I am very proud of them. Hate Covina all you want. Bash the team all you want. No matter what is said, yall are home this Friday Night and the Colts will be playing.

You couldn't pick an original name to use? Too much of having to think? Did the name you chose to copy just happen to fit in with your lifestyle? Did you settle on your log on name from when you sober up, and your makeup rubs off when you have to remove your head from your rear orifice? Or is because YOUR man crush uses non waterproof colored condoms?
Inquiring minds want to know....

Hey Joke, UR1
You know nothing about the CO staff. If you did you would know that Lehigh isn't the only coach on staff. 200 wins for "Big Lou" and you want him fired. You are a joke. The offense may have struggled this year but there were QB problems (turnovers) that needed to be addressed. Hey, they changed QB and went on a eight game win streak. They came from behind on several occasions. All this with a sophomore QB, the second sophomore in two years. You can’t open the entire playbook with sophomores. During the four- year run that lead to four final appearances CO had four QB’s. Is it just luck that they went four times with four different QB’s. NO, but the offense was more wide open because they were all one year wonder, seniors.
The offensive staff, Dom and Moose at CO put together good game plans. They share play calling, with the O-line guy Moose handling the run and making suggestions, while Dom makes the pass and feel calls, Together they have over thirty years of experience (Moose 7 years at college level). With a young qb and without the dominant RB they have become accustom to CO has had to manage games and be safe. Sorry the score board doesn’t light up like a pinball machine but CO fans are happy to see wins. Nine of them so far. Too bad you had a bad experience at CO (except for Lehigh). I’m sure that you thought you were great and the coaches dogged you. Whether you know it or not you are a better man today for playing charger football. You were a part of a football family and you decided to be the black sheep.

Hey 74 Colt,
Just had to show some respect man. How these guys bag on your team is beyond me. Man your in the semi's against some good ball clubs.
Playoff football in late rounds is played at a different level than league play. So be proud man you have a good ball club over there.

Look, you guys that are bashing this ball club have no clue. These guys are legimate and not only that they are getting it done when it really counts.
Come on get off their backs, because your the ones sitting home with a bag of chips and a twelve pack of beer. Give em' some respect. When you get to the simi's two years in a row you have earned it.

Grow up, I don't see your school playing up each week and when you do you get your butt kicked. I'm sure you remember upland this year and how about amat the prior years. Bottom line is you only have one coach, and if Lehigh wasn't there you guys wouldn't be in the playoffs. You would be just like all the C.O. teams before Lehigh, in the late 80's and early 90's, getting your butt kicked. The way C.O. played on Friday, I am guessing Lehigh must of took over the offensive play calling. Aram, you did call it before the season about C.O. being the best in the Valley, the kids are the best now if they could only get a new head coach and offensive coordinator to go with their great defensive coach. Then C.O. would dominate every game like they should.
Posted by: Joke | November 26, 2006 1:34 PM
Trash talk has a name for a reason. I can see it before a season starts. Or before a game where the talkers are going to play each other.
I must be a complete and total moron because I can't see where any of it belongs now. Teams that are advancing are getting trashed. Not by the teams that they are going to play next week..but from people that don't even have a dog in the race..and never did. WTF?
Glendora is sitting at home. So is Bishop Amat. And a lot of other good teams. Wait..let me correct that..a lot of other great teams. Why anyone would want to try and disrespect any other team playing or not is beyond my comprehension. I say this not just from this thread but from the others.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes but I really can't see why the continuing trash talk for any other reason that it gives someone with nothing better to do a short reprieve.
I will not at any time try to badmouth ANY other team . Beaten or lost to. Let alone any team that we have not played . I don't care how good a team is or is told they are I know the facts of the saying " On any given day " and just say a thanks when it's our day.
I'll continue to support my Colts. And will if and when I'm sitting at home on a Friday, with not being able to support my Colts, support whatever area team is playing and representing our community. Wishing continued luck and prosperity to Los Altos, Charter Oak, Duarte, and my Colts.

Can't imagine coaching a game the day my mother passed away. How he kept it together is beyond me. Maybe the game should have been posponed for one day. I doubt the CIF would have allowed it but maybe the schools could have anyway. Imagine the "class act" stories that would have bought on.
Coach Bogan and the South Hills players have my respect for life.

Colt - Your last post is the kind of story that should be highlighted in sports pages across the county. Very mature behavior from 17 year old kids. Props to the St. Joe kids.
BTW I'll pick Covina this week in a squeeker 21 - 17

Boys,
Covina has reached the semis for the second consectutive season. All doubts about the Colts' legitimacy should be gone. Heck, they should've been gone last year when everyone said the same thing and Covina reached the semis and bowed out after giving the eventual champ and now D-1 Tesoro a great game in the rain and on the road.
You can make the argument that Covina's schedule is weak. It definitely was, but that all goes out the window once the playoffs begin and the team wins TWO games to get into the semis.
Many of you are making the argument that should only be made if Covina goes 9-1 and is out in the first round of the playoffs.
The fact is, Covina did to its weak opponents what any other local power would've done - they blew them out in the first half.
Back-to-back semis appearances should end all arguments. This team is very good and it can do a lot of things offensively. There's simply not a way to matchup with Covina. Not many HS teams can stop both the run and pass at the same time. And even if you do, then you have to worry about McDonough just putting it down and taking off.
Any HS football fan with a half of a brain should be able to go to a Covina game and physically see this team has legit athletes. It shouldn't even take a quarter. I've said it before and I'll say it again, guys like Jamal James, McDonough, Tre McNair or Brad Gomez would start most other places and do perfectly fine. That much should be obvious to anyone.

Something I forgot to post earlier and need to do so now.
The St. Joseph kids shaved their heads in a show of support for a team-mate that is undergoing Chemo. I think that shows class at a level that can not even begin to be measured.....

Benny..agree with you 200%. Cross what ever bridge you need to cross when you are at that bridge. Looking ahead to what MAY BE is foolish. We have a huge hurdle to overcome this week. Oak Park is a V-E-R-Y talented team. I think them and Covina are evenly matched. Will I make predictions?...Naaa. I just hope for the best. I truly think that both teams are so evenly matched it's not funny. I have my pick of coarse....
Posted by: 74-Colt Alumni | November 26, 2006 12:13 PM
Covina Alum - I don't have a horse in this race. I'm from the OC. I guarantee you if you win CIF all of the trash talk will cease. Oaks Christian is ranked in the top 10 in the Country. My only point is you have to beat a good Oak Park team first. I would love to see you play for it all against Oaks Christian. Just take care of this weeks biz first.
Posted by: Benny Tone Deaf | November 26, 2006 12:02 PM
I have not seen one post by ANY Covina supporter saying that their Colts are the best. Not one. I have seen where we come in and jump right in with both feet when someone starts talking trash about our team and our player...Oh yeah..and our schedule.
You bring up Mt. Sac trying to compare itself to USC. Covina has not done that. Covina HAS tried to compare itself with it's peers in and around it's home. And why not? Because we don't play you and beat you we're not good? last time I checked Oaks Christian did not play you so..so they must not be good right? If Mt. Sac DID play USC and beat them would THEY be good? Damn right they would be.
The schedule excuse is nothing more than that. An excuse for those of you that feel we are beneath you to try and justify your logic. Covina is not going to try and justify to you or anyone else that they are a good team and deserve to be standing right beside you. They justify it every time they suit up and go out there and play.
How long are you going to try and use that schedule crutch to prop up your own teams? If Covina has such a soft schedule ( and they do for the most part )BUT they get into CIF and play against other teams ( some the first place team in their leagues ) and win does that still ( in your mind )still place them below your team? Why? Oh yeah...because they are not YOU..how silly of me to forget.
By your logic..even if Covina was to go all the way and win they STILL would be the lowly colts, and not deserving to be standing as equals with YOUR team. Because of their season schedule. That would be so asinine it's off the scale.
Judge someone or some team by their accomplishments. Not by what YOU perceive as their accomplishments.

Jeez! You guys have to get past Oak Park before you even think about Oaks Christian. Oak Park is 11-1 and only lost to Oaks Christian (55-7) Go ahead and look past Oak Park and you will be sitting at home when they meet Oaks Christian again in the final.

My reason for alot of bloggers talking about covina is that covina fans come out and start talking about how they are the best i understand this is all talk and hipe but the fact is that they need to look there schedual they need to start playing co, south hills and west covina or even rowland. you cant compare mt sac to usc or even citrus to ucla its all college but not the same schudeles

difference between rocky and covina is everyone knew rocky was gonna win...if i had a billion dollars and i could put the top 10 valley players on covina i would still bet oaks christan - 21...if u get worked by glenodra your not gonna beat oaks chrsitian...hey covina i heard azusa needs a week 3 game next year u guys should play em...seee u guys in workmans passing league tournament

Maybe everyone's missing the obvious!
If Covina gets to the Championship game they play Oaks Christian. Does that mean that the eventual division Champion is weak? Oaks Christian is a monster of farmed in talent coached by former NFL players and played by future major NCAA DIV I talent. Coupled that with high priced individual trainers and top line facilities and the "Rocky" here is Covina. No other team in the Valley will get that opportunity. The opportunity to fight Goliath. And yet all the bloggers have chosen to belittle Covina's team, coach, schedule and players? Why? Seriously why?
Which SGV team wouldn't want that chance to make history. Which player wouldn't want the chance to play for Covina THAT night! I respect Covina for knowing that every time they play and win they are getting closer to the "slaughter house" and yet they march on and say "Bring it on!"
Ask Mendrun, Hile, Travis, MJ, Casteneda, Harris, Barbosa,Edmonds,Rabe,Thomas, Rodriguez, Foss, Bernal or any other standout SGV player if they would not beg to play against Oaks Christian for the Championship that night against Goliath.
If they win Friday I hope the SGV shows it support for our "Rocky".

if covina coach had any guts he would of scheduled CO and then our d could of broke him down which would of propelled MJ to be mvp...its unfortunate thata div 9 team that has a weak excuse me GAY preseaon schedule qb is gonna rep our valley...lets put a D-1 guy up there not some ganesha killer

let me know the next time MJ throws for 340 and rushes for another 130 and then adds 7 touchdowns...when MJ does that (whom i believe is a good player) then he can have the valley player of the year...when a player scores 50 touchdowns back to back years they deserve to win the award...antlers MJ will get 1st team all valley and he should....but McD is on another level then any other player right know..ask Tesoro and St. Joes...oh and to let you know McD just hit the daily double over 2000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing

I love it when people apologize to each other and talk like adults and clear the air that there is always someone that's still picking at an old wound. Maybe you missed all that drama and back and forth and public apologies but probably wouldn't care to know anyway.
I'll take Lou's advice and...well you know how to read. It's all off my chest and I don't think anyone who passed me on the rail ( great view by the way)who had something to say somehow forgot what to say last night. So that was your one chance to clear the air. Season's over. God bless you. I did hear a lot of that last night and I like the sound of that better than the other non sense. So I'll discuss football and ignore the ignorable.
Went to see Mc D vs. San Dimas and Aram's right Mc D is easily SGV Football Player of the Year. (If you haven't seen him play you're missing out. Amazing HS talent)Mendrun is easily Sierra MVP, The Chino Hills game sealed it). Tough to beat McD though for pure football toughness, football leadership and football consistency. Two year run.
Enjoy talking football. Like the song goes, "If loving "football" is wrong...I don't want to be right!" Anyway the Mrs. said if I can't play nice I can't play. So I'll let that slide and consider the source.

West Co. vs Trab. Hills
Tough game by both teams, congrat. to Trab. Hills, they played solid in the second half & didn't make the big mistakes, West Co, nice finish to a season that a month ago looked like it was going to fall apart. Will Wallace came into the game having been rested at practice the whole week because of a hurt knee, he was a step slower but he played till the end. Take away a mistake here & a penalty there & it could have been different but insn't that how it always is?
The tough thing about this much anticipated season for West Co. is that their three talented
running backs only had 1 game [vs.Matter Dei] in which all three got to play together & were involved in the game, this was due to the injuries & suspensions that plagued the team. I
will always wonder what could have been.
Hope everyone has a great offseason & happy holidays. Dan

Congrats to Seirra League playoff teams!
While we didn't go all the way, we certainly performed with great pride facing highly ranked teams.
Chino Hills lost 34 to 29 against Norco who is ranked 29th in the State (Maxipreps).
Glendora lost 40 to 21 against Redlands who is ranked 34th in the State (Maxipreps).
Damien lost 42 to 16 against Temescal Canyon who is ranked 49th in the State (Maxipreps).

about the covina game, i will like to add that that game probably made a record for most flags in a football game! no lie, tell anybody who went, or played. it looked like more of a game of flag football.

Hats off to Damien going as far as they did this season. That hasn't been done for years. Each and everyone of those boys can hold their heads up high, they have nothing to be ashamed of. They did their best, played their hardest and it came down to a team that had a bull of a player in Pesaniello. If you didn't tackle him at the feet there was no stopping him. Looks like Damien defense was not prepared for what faced them in Pesaniello or Warzeka. Damien Dad, maybe the coaches could take some sideline coaching advise next time. Seems you call the plays pretty good.
However, the season has ended, the boys did great and we will be hearing more when they enter their colleges of choice and play ball once more. Best of luck to each of you.

Looks like it is the OC vs. the SGV in the Southwest Div.
Charter Oak be prepared for a long bus ride down to Mission Viejo. Fortunately for you it will be on Saturday.
To me the Game of the Week will be El Dorado vs. Los Altos. It's going to be a long week in anticipation.

Have you looked at Duartes line! Not very athletic!
Posted by: Open your eyes | November 25, 2006 9:47 AM
Coach Wardell Crutchfield and staff have a great Duarte team.
It starts with senior receiver Jermaine Thomas. The league MVP candidate has 1,116 receiving yards, 14 TD's, with 50 receptions. He is also second in rushing behind junior Chris Harris. Harris has 2,031 rushing yards and 20 TD's. Junior quarterback Austin Goldsmith has 2,016 passing yards and 21 TD passes. Junior kicker Andrew Vasquez has one of the strongest legs in the valley. Last night he put the ball in the endzone on all six of his kickoffs for no returns. The lines are lead by senior Mike Harris (6-8 315), Alex Palacios (6-4 315), Mario Ortega (6-2 245), and Tim Starr (6-0 270). The defense is led by senior linebacker Brandon Lee and junior linebacker Sean Gatlin.
Good luck next week at Verbum Dei. Go Falcons!

Damien blew it............All they had to do was talk with "Damien dad" before the game!!!!!! He has all the answers. Damien Dad would have taken us to a C.I.F. title no doubt about it. Oh well to late now, However i am sure he can help Coach Lucero in wrestling. I figure about half way threw the wrestling season Damien Dad will be an expert on wrestling as well, as great a coach as he is. Damien is so lucky to have him.
Hey Damien dad any "sponsers" for the pizza blast yet?? Wow, what a great idea a pizza blast for all the bloggers. Im sure everyone will be there. Keep us informed!!!!!!

74 colt and Razorback
Both kids had a great game last night. I went to Co/South Hills first half and Covina Second half. MCD had an outstanding game leading his team back to victory and MJ lead his team also.
The two kids play different positions and I would have to say MCD position will always be a high profile spot.
Everyone needs to remember, that post season stats really are not involved in "Player of the Year" Awards. That's why you have separate awards for season and post season.
Remember, both kids are moving on next week, so enjoy the time you have with your kids and give them love. Both programs deserve alot of credit!

One dimensional teams will only going so far in the playoffs. Two teams come to mind to illustrate this point. First, lets look at Glendora. Take away Edmunds running game,as Redlands did, you have a Glendora loss. By the way, my prediction is that Redlands will win CIF title. In the case of Damien, take away Mendrun passing, you have a Damien loss. West Covina has a similar situation, take away the running threat, you have a WC loss. Covina is the exception as McD is both a running and passing threat. Covina will go far in the playoffs because of this. McD has my vote again as player of the year! Can't wait to see the Covina/Oaks Christian game. Covina will give OC the game of their season, however, OC is unstoppable.

Randy/Los Altos Fan -
You are absolutely right. El Dorado will be facing it's toughest opponent of the year next week. Los Altos' size is going to give El Dorado some trouble. El Dorado is a small team that wins because of athleticism. I don't think they have faced a team this big and this dominant. El Do will have it's work cut out for them and Coach Bailey will have to figure out a way to stay one step ahead of Coach Gano. Not sure thats possible.

I'm so sorry for your loss Coach Bogan and to all the players at South Hills, It's hard to play a game with such heavy hearts. You have had a great season.
Well played Charter Oak, You played like a well oiled machine firing on all cylinders.. It was amazing to watch. I hardly heard any armchair quarterbacking in the stands and we all know how bad that can get at a high school football game.
Good luck next week.
CO YOU KNOW!!!!!

Here we go again with the Covina bashing....
Hey Mattressback dude...er...I mean Razorback dude..granted you guys had a great game last night and I'm sure that your adrenaline pump is running in over-drive...but...
To spout off that MJ deserves outright player of the year over M&M because of the teams M&M has played is extremely laughable. Go to MaxPreps and compare stats. M&M scored 7 touchdowns last night against St. Joseph...7…can you count that high?…use both hands...I'll wait. You can't even begin to place MJ's stats up against M&M's.
And that "step up" BS that you use so well as a "comeback" like…"oh yeah? "...man it's so lame that again that's laughable too. 7 touchdowns in a CIF playoff game against another divisions Number 1 team. If that ain't stepping up then you need to step down on the amount of whatever you are sniffing.
Giving player of the year to MJ over M&M would be like (to use your analogy) giving it to MJ over M&M. MJ is a great player I'm not here to disrespect him in any way...like you are disrespecting M&M. But I am here to hopefully give you a little "Benny Hill" and hopefully snap you into a " what was I thinking? " after your gaffing off of M&M accomplishments, have compared stats and said the number 7 to yourself a few times, and finally let that sink in. You know player number 7...seven touchdowns in a single CIF playoff game...against another divisions number 1 team.
And next…Covina does not need your respect. I'm sure they got plenty of it from the St. Josephs team riding home in their bus last night. Probably 30 or so kids. I'm sure the Covina kids will sacrifice your respect for those 30+ kids. If you need help with the numbers 30 and higher use your toes too....
Let the numbers speak for themselves. But don't try and build your guy up by tearing our guy down.
Enjoy the win from last night. Charter Oak players and fans should be celebrating.
Please don't be too disappointed if all the voters for POY see things differently than you do…for whomever they vote for.
Hate Covina all you want. I’m sure every one of those kids sleep just fine at night. And so do the rest of us Colt fans.
In closing I just want to say that instead of coming here and celebrating your win last night you chose to attack our school and our player.Rule number one...make your guy look better by trying to belittle the other guy. Hey..it worked so well for the Republicans why not give it a shot! Shows just what a jack-ass you are. You bitched about how Aram could have made himself look better by picking CO over SH...well you could have made yourself look better by actually pulling your head out of your ass before posting your tripe.
Charter Oak, Covina, Los Altos Fans...enjoy the celebrating!
If you are proud of your kids make a point today of letting them know! That goes for all fans and parents of all the players of teams in the SGV, no matter win or lose the last couple of weeks. Let them know how much you appreciate their efforts and sacrifices this season.

McDonough finished 20-of-31 passing for 338 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried 25 times for 131 yards and three more touchdowns.
Got to play a real team. Got to play four qtrs. Got to see him take over the game singlehandedly. Then come back on D and stuff the RB. A complete player. Player of the year. He has like 100 TD's in two years.
WOW. You only will believe if you see it yourself.

you can talk all the smack you want , but only four team in this area will be playing next week.
THE COVINA COLTS ARE STILL PROVING THEY BELONG!!!

Los Altos on a roll right now, at right time but not one player from new pop warner program on team, or on varsity level and truth be told if the all world freshmen that are playing varsity were on freshman level none of the soo called stars from your league would even play.
There are about 6 football freaks all freshmen playing out there on someones varsity level, and about 6 who play J/V football and talk is next spring they all transfer in, keep winning the world championships in lower level pee wee football, the freaks are comming from another conference. Parents better start calling school district early to complain about this one.
Gano best coach and every one knows it, as long as he is there like the movie says build it and they will come, rest of valley better pray Los Altos doesnt get into finals school will run out of transfer forms in one day.

Well so much for all the smack now it's time to cry a river Huskies. When the program has too much success CIF decides to re-league and thats what happens. Welcome to the Jungle (Div6 or S/W).
Great effort West Co and you went down swinging. The Mustangs were a Div1 and 2 team and now they are Div6 (or should I say S/W). Another great move by the powers to be. Lets see we will move Newport Harbor and Orange Lutheran to D1 and bring Trabucco Hills and Huntington Beach to D6. Just a thought that makes you go Hmmmmmm
CO, Great game tonight on both sides of the ball. To "lineman" about your offer on providing cookies thanks we found them on the field and they went down smooth and easy.
Keep grounded and keep fighting CO like you have done all season.
Congrats to LA and good luck next week against El Dorado

Went to the game expecting to be confronted by angry dads and guess what? A lot of parents came up to me and told me they were sorry for how things got out of hand or said to ignore the BS. Eddie Gomez was the first to approach me and come to terms with our misunderstanding. I'll take him at his Christian word and accept his apology for not clearing things up sooner. Same with Williams and others. Seems no one ever blogged or knew how to operate a computer. Imagine that. But hey let's all move on and have that PIZZA BLAST at season's end and support the local teams that still represent the SGV.
But the best dad was Lou Eschardies who said it as only he can laughing and smiling from ear to ear, "You got it ALL off your chest! Man I had to tell Debbie...YOU GOT TO SEE THIS!! Frank, You know what... F'um. You coming to sit with us ? We're at the 45!" And that was it! Just like that. Hell I gave him a hug I was so relieved. Maybe it was a thank you for helping his son and maybe it's because he's pretty grounded. Once I told him that Travis played well when Travis had an off night and he said, "Blah, He stunk it up tonight" Not many dad's are honest like that, especially when their son is the "man". Thanks Lou and Debbie and all the E. family for always being there and making me feel welcomed. Hope Travis gets what he's been working for, he deserves it!
Tonight was tough because it was an end of a magic season. TC had our number. Were they the better team? Tonight, Yeah they beat us plain and simple. Did they play harder? No! We played as hard as I've seen Damien play all year. To a man everyone played well. So why did we lose? Because TC imposed their game plan on us and we did not have a game plan ready to stop them or to score. We were bigger, faster, had more offensive weapons but they played a perfect defense for our offense and we had no solution to their offense, none.
I worried about Damien's inability to have sustained drives of smash mouth football and it caught up with us tonight. I worried that Damien had relied too much on big plays off "broken plays" and again no big plays off broken plays tonight. Los Osos scored 42 on TC we scored 16. And TC took a knee @the 2, on fourth down, with 4min. to go or it would have been 49 -16.
As far as our LBs,where I said the game would be won or lost, Gomez was hurt early on a big hit and Kenneth Dominguez came in and played spectacular. Where has this kid been. But again when you have 4 big men up front why do you insist on playing the MLB so close to the line "before" the snap on a running only team? He's in the wash and can't get out unless it's to THAT hole. Stay back and see the ball and then come up, never understood that quirk at all. I said if you 5 front a running option team it's a blow out of long runs and alot of 1st downs. And it was. TC did not punt all night and completely out coached whoever made up the defensive game plan. That's not a critism that's a fact. Lucero, McMahon and Pertusati made the majority of the tackles tonight. And they're in the secondary. I said we shouldn't get cute and we ran the spread all night. No full back, no lead blocker. No TE no curl, no sweeps. Do we ever run wide? Other than that bubble route that's a flanker screen we never run wide. TC was in a pre set deep zone all night and all our patterns were deep routes. No crossing patterns, no roll outs? Played right into their hands. Looked like passing league with a rush. We could not run the ball and our receivers were so wide Mendrun had to throw 35yd passes to get 5 yds up field. Early on the deep routes almost collided in the center of the field. Best pass of the night was a deep streak to Taylor Herrera for a TD late in the game. I said Taylor had to blow up and well by then it was too late. Like I said before NO SLOW STARTS, momentum is key in the playoffs and Damien never had any. Painful way to end a great season.
Good luck to all the seniors. This has always been your season and you made it special. Thanks for the memories.

aram dude u pick charter oak preseason # 2 and u dont even back that up by picking them to beat south hills, you could of made yourself look soooo much better by proving your point...o well...it will be a shame if # 5 from co isnt the outright player of the year in the valley...giving it to the covina kid would be like giving the heisman to ian johnson (boise st) over troy smith (ohio st) big time players make big time plays in big time games...when mike johnson was makin plays aginst los altos d ranch south hills and bonita...covina guy was makin plays aginst ganesha and whoever else they played they didnt have a winning record
