Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays ...

| | Comments (25) |

At my house, we say "Merry Christmas." But if that doesn't apply to you, then hopefully "Happy Holidays" does.
I don't want to go Bill O'Reilly on anyone here, but wouldn't all of this debate about whether you should say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" be over if you just said them both?

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of you or whatever else applies.

To Happy Hannukka

As I adhere to no individual faith your comment does not offend me but instead shows that you are proud of your faith and wish to share the joy it brings you with others.
That being my whole point. At Christmas time Christians should be proud of their faith and have the right to wish others a Merry Christmas without feeling the pressure of hurting the feelings of others of a different faith. So I hope your wishing me a Happy Hannukka was done for the good of your faith and not purposely to offend myself and the others you personally mentioned.

Prep FB Realist,

i'm used to saying Happy Hanukka to my friends. Therefore, instead of changing old habits, HAPPY HANUKKA to you and your family!

Just being myself!

I just thought, "What an honor for someone to respect me so much and wish me so well that they would invite me into their world to celebrate their holiday, that they have every right to celebrate. Why should I deprive them of the joy of saying 'Happy Kwanzaa, Festivus, Hannukah...whatever'"

Merry Christmas

Hey Happy Holidays,

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Instead of trying to make concessions for everyone, be yourself. If you say Merry Christmas, then why change?

Isn't easier for people to stop being so sensitive rather then have everyone try to conform to some meaningless state of political correctness?

Happy Hannukka said:

Joe Amat, Hahahahaha, covinaHigh, Mike and Betty B:

Happy Hannukka to you and a very Happy New Year!

no disrespect said:

covinahigh,

my point exactly.

covinahigh said:

hey Happy Holidays?
since were both christian then we both belive this, if you dont believe in jesus or god your going to hell. but to people who dont belive, im not talking to u. but thats just the way it is, people try not to believe in it because its sad, well thats life. without god your nothing!

no disrespect said:

i agree with posting from "happy holidays". Who does it really hurt to wish people happy holidays versus just arbitrarily saying merry christmas to everyone regardless of their beliefs. why not say the phrase which would result in the least disrespect. does the phrase happy holidays really disrespect anyone?

Aram,

Having problems with your post which states "When in Rome ..." and in this case, Rome, aka the U.S., is a mostly Christian country and MUST be respected".

Does that also mean because Glendora is mostly a White Republican community, we shouldn't respect any minority Democratic views? Can you please elaborate on this? Should only majority views be respected and tolerated... to hell with everybody else. Are you disrespecting a non Christian when you wish them a Merry Christmas? Who do you disrespect when you wish them Happy Holidays?

While I am a Christian myself, I have always had problems with the Christian exclusionary view "If you are not a member of my club, your going to hell!

Feliz Navibla!

Yeah Mike the Clone,

Don't be such a stranger. Beside, I thought the real Glendora HS fans came out around this time of year for hoops ... not football. Ahh, anyway, Merry Christmas to you, too.

Isn't saying Merry Christmas really saying....Share my joy!

Kind of like ..."it's a boy!"...like proud parents.

I like saying Happy Holidays to strangers and Merry Christmas to my friends. My business partner is Jewish and always wears a Santa Claus hat to our Christmas Party so there you have it.

It doesn't matter what you say as long as you have a smile on your face and kindness in your heart...I think the other person gets your intent of sharing goodwill. Besides what's wrong with being polite on both sides of this issue.

Happy Holidays to all..even to Joe Amat who's a wicked son of a b....I mean.....who's "wickedly funny"! :-)

What's wrong with being inclusive!

Happy Kawanssa to you Aram. How does that make you feel? Or, How about Happy Hannukka, Aram.

It's very easy to see how someone not of your faith may feel hurt. So why hurt anyone. Does happy Holidays not include your holiday?

Who does it hurt to say Happy Holidays? Unless you are a self-centered egotistic exclusionist, what difference does it make? Does everyone have to practice your beliefs? See what i mean.

Happy Holidays Aram! Be Safe!!

Aram said:

The opposite argument that you're going to hear is "When in Rome ..." and in this case, Rome, aka the U.S., is a mostly Christian country and MUST be respected.

I don't know, I can see both sides of this.

I don't want to wish Merry Christmas to somebody who might be Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist or something else. So, say I think saying them both is a good idea.

Happy Holidays to everyone said:

The problem with religion is it rarely is inclusive. Because there are so many religions and so many holidays during the Nov. thru Dec. time, why not just say "Happy Holidays" so everyone is included. Do you have a problem including everyone? Why do people have problems with this? For those who are hurt because they are not greeted with "Merry Christmas", how would you feel if the standard greeting was something other than your religious holiday?

Joe Amat said:

In this day and age one can't be too careful with what you say to people so I offer the following with hopes I don't offend anyone :

For the PC bloggers:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular practices and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country, nor the only America in Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting these greetings, your are accepting the aforementioned terms as stated. This greeting is not subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself/himself/ others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

For the NON PC bloggers:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
