It's little wonder that people that support SGV would have an opinion about their home team being the best for the up coming 2007 season. If support is all that your bloggers can come up with....what about a dose of reality! The up coming 2007 season might have a few teams that could be considered to dominate in thier repective leagues but in reality there is only a choice few teams that deserve to be in your top ten for next year. Forget about 2006...that's history...and the class is over on living on yesterdays heroics. Check out schdeuling and that should just about bring you all down to earth.

IAN JOHNSON,IAN JOHNSON, the mtv of the fiesta bowl and he was awesome and he ran in the 2pt to win the game,he should be the cover of the sports-local hero wins bowl game i can see it now. this kid is the star of the valley, keep on going spartan,ur making us proud

LOS ALTOS ALSO HAD A GREAT RECEVER...DOMINIC DRAYTON!!!! AND I BELIEVE HE HAD A BROTHER NAMED DANIELD DRAYTON....THEY WAS PRETTY DAMN GOOD RIGHT ALONG WITH THE BROWN BROTHERS!

The trivia answer to the question regarding Royal Oak's final game-a 32-0 loss to Arroyo in the CIF Southeastern Qtr-finals. Game was played at Citrus College in 1984. Charter Oak, which the following year combined with Royal Oak, returned the favor in the Semi-finals in 1985-beating Arroyo 48-8. Arroyo won the title in 1986, beating Victor Valley 7-3.

Aram.... Brigham Harwell's brother Brent Harwell plays for Chino Hills # 56 I believe. I know you've talked about the family bond this family has and the hardships they deal with but the Harwells are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Very polite and very respectful. I was screaming out my La Verne front door..."IT'S OVER!!!!!" when UCLA intercepted that pass! My neighbors thought I was crazy! My kids thought I was crazy!!! but I was so happy for Brigham and Brent Harwell that I just reacted out of pure joy! He has done everything the UCLA staff has asked of him and never complains....just like that other Los Altos Alum...Shaun Cody! Gano really knows how to make them.

Brigham Harwell is the best defensive player I've ever seen at the HS level. Downright dominant.

DHS you never seen Brigham Harwell play. The year he came out he was one of the most dominating DE in the country. Harwell could have gone anywhere. He was a man amongst boys. He tied Shaun Cody's sack record. I got his HS hight light film and it's unbelieveable. He is so quick off the ball. Just like he was against USC. If you watched the game he was always the first one off the ball.

My guess would be because the Tribune went with the best player on the area's best team who went 14-0 and won a CIF title. Harwell had a heckuva year. I believe he either broke Shaun Cody's valley sack record, or came close to it, and it was considered by many as one of the top recruits on the West Coast that year. Johnson, who was also a great player in high school, was not held to that esteem, but who has since become one of the top players in the country.
As has been stated before, the POY is not about which player has the greatest potential to play at the next level (It's not the Recruit of the Year award), but the one guy who has the best year. Sometimes that's the same guy; other times it's not.

How come out heisman trohy semifinalist didnt win this award as a senior,he was awesome a 2 way starter on offense and defenisve and a captain? Im talking about Ian Johnson, the NCAA leader in tds. He should have won this award instead of a 2 staring dl at ucla. Go Broncos and Spartans, beat the sooners

The tackle stat is somewhat overrated because most of the leaders in this category come from the bottom-end teams. If a team is giving up a lot of 80-yard drives, there's a lot of opportunities for someone to make a lot of tackles, where a team that records a lot of three-and-outs, the opportunities are less. I can remember a few years where a kid from a very bad Mountain View was second in the Valley in tackles. As someone else said, sacks are subjective as well, mainly because most high-school stat keepers fail to realise that once the quarterback has given up the pass, he's a ball-carrier and can't be sacked, even if he is tackled behind the line of scrimmage.
I guess the best method for picking this teams is like Aram said, to go with what he sees, or what others have seen.

Aram,

When will All League nominations come out?

Aram, good point re tackles. Sooooooooooo, what criteria do YOU use to select d line and LB's.

Don't say Sacks, because the same faulty system also applies.

About defensive stats - especially tackles,

I think you'll find the definition of what a tackle is changes place to place. What I mean is that some schools/stat people/coaches give credit differently. Therefor, tackle stats vary greatly. I've come to notice that some programs have notoriously high tackle counts every year - South El Monte would be a great example and some of have notoriously low - Damien would be a great example of this. In my position, you have to weed thru this and make your best call. Tackle stats are very subjective - a yard is a yard, but jumping on the pile at the end of a play often isn't a tackle.

I'm not that interested in who he is anymore.

jeffrulerson,

you have a computer. look at maxpreps for stats on bruno. He led sierra league in tackles (105).

"What?",

It's very obvious Aram did not go entirely by stats when selecting the All Area team. This is especially apparent in the defense.

stupid trivia question: Who did ROYAL OAK play thier last ever football game against? Hint, it was a heart breaking loss, as i recall.

Yo WHAT?

Not only did Anthony Hile get all league but also Defensive MVP of the league! There is nothing better than seeing Glendora fans cry..

D1B= not all league! not all area! not worth talking about! How's that fastball? High and tight?

exactley who is he

Love seeing Pat Haden on this blog thing.

Shoutout to the greatest qb in Amat history, not to mention Rose Bowl MVP!

Who is Todd Bruno?

What makes Anthony Hile a first team Linebacker?Todd Bruno absolutely OWNS Hile..Check the facts...That is bull andtotally biased...How does Bruno not make 1st team linebacker...?He did everything Hile did and more....?BRUNO was a 1st team lienbacker......That is not right Aram.....How cna you justify that?

Forget about Ian Johnson for a second, what about Shaun Cody? If anybody has a gripe, it's him. But, his teammate Felipe Aguilar got it that year. It has to be remembered, the award is given to the person who had the best season, not the person who projects to have the best college/pro career.

I know something you don't know..........

too bad ian didnt win POY...hes only a major heisman candidate for next year and in a major BCS game...13-0! GO 41!

I know people on here dont want to hear about how amat should have had more players of the year, but Im going to list some names from the 90s era that deserved player of the year or co players of the year in my opion. These guys were huge impact players against top notch opoents.

How about these guys:
Rodney Sermons
Corey Minor (former pro)
Ralph Brown III (pro)
Joey Getherall
Michael Wagner

All of the coaches should be considered for COY. The sacrifices they make and the time away from their families is reason enough to give multiple awards. Several teams did much better than the preseason polls forcasted. But there was one team that had the best turnaround of any.
First was their 05 season record
and secondly their suspect defense that was the talk of the town. But by season end they were clearly the SGV Tribune #1 team. Damien High School coach Scott Morrison should be very high on a short list of coaches for COY.

No Damien POY or COY since 1969? Bassett has a POY winner! Mountain View has a COY! Maybe that will change this year....No wonder the Damien crowd gets their feathers all in a bunch so easily. The only reason Mark McGuire wasn't POY ....pre-steriods!
POY McD
COY Farrar

AT,

Just trying to distance us from the pack a bit more.

The "little a" has to find little victories somewhere these days!:?)

We didn't find those on the gridiron and the hardwood...oh my, have you seen those scores from the lowly lancers?
Losses to Bassett? Ontario Christian? St. Anthony?
Just *scheduling* those teams is bad enough...but losing. uuuggghh!!!
...but save that for another blog.

Nice work on the history of awards. Interesting that the COY has been pretty spread out. 2 for amat, Los Altos, South Hills, Covina, Wilson, and Baldwin Park. I hope we see Lou break onto the list. We'll see tommorrow...

Joe Amat,

I went by total years with a winner.

From a purely historical note, Bill Stone was a running back in 1980 for ROYAL Oak before it closed as a high school and merged with Charter Oak.

Royal Oak lost in the CIF Finals, afetr a furious comback to take the lead, on a last second kick by one of the Zendejas kickers at Don Lugo. I believe that John Monger was the DL coach at the time and Lou Farrar was the RO coach. Lou probably wants to forget that one !:?)

And if you count Co-POY then the score is
Los Altos -10
amat- 9
then everybody else

So is there any leaks to who won the awards
