The Official Southwest Division championship thread ...

| | Comments (36) |

But first a message on behalf of this blog: El Dorado and OC football fans, if any of you are reading this, we want to congratulate you on a fantastic season. We're well aware of what you've accomplished this season. You definitely deserve to be playing for all the marbles. We're also aware that you're not Mater Dei or Orange Lutheran or Edison, but you're having a season good enough to stack up with any of the elite teams in your county. That has to be extra special. This type of dream season doesn't come along very often, so we know you're enjoying it. It will be an electric atmosphere Friday night at Citrus College. Hopefully, you bring the entire county with you to support your Golden Hawks. Hopefully, the entire SGV will be there to support the Chargers. In addition to fans from both schools, here's to hoping the rest of the Southwest Division shows up to watch a champion be crowned.

I hear ya whale. Aubrey's been rumored to be going just about everywhere each year since he was a freshman, but we'll have to see. You're correct about us needing him because we don't throw the ball well enough to get it done on a consistant basis. If he can stay healthy, Aubrey's going be awefully hard on defenses next year.

Hey pride guy, I think this thread has come down to you and me. Good, i'm sick of LA, CO and Rowland anyhow. I hear from a few inside sources, that aubrey haynes is headed to St Paul next yr. good rumor? bad rumor? You need that cat to balance the offensive load. Carrillo cant carry the team. I heard this from reliable sources who will remain anonymous. He is the shit, i'll give you that. But you boys need him.......

Panther Pride '06 said:

Well whale, you seem to take a fair amount of pleasure from the "woulda, coulda, shouldas" at Diamond Ranch. What happened, did the school pass you up as one of our many coaches and now you're bitter? Maybe you rode the high 20+ years ago of Diamond Bar's success and now that they've struggled recently you need to make yourself feel better by bashing the school that now takes most of the athletes from the area. Besides, last year we celebrated a girl's CIF basketball championship and Terry Prentice won state titles in the Long Jump, 110 Hurdles, and finished 3rd in the 300 HH. We may not be setting the athletic world on fire at DR, but we haven't done too bad either. As a coach there for the last 4 years I can say that I am extremely proud of the quality student/athletes that have come from Diamond Ranch. I know that may not measure up on your CIF TITLE SCALE OF SUCCESS, but for us it's what we strive for. Maybe I've been doing it wrong this whole time. I guess that I should teach the kids the win at all costs or you're a total failure mentality that you seem to live by and then we could have a whole new generation of angry, bitter people like yourself.

about L.A. having no oone returning next year thats all crap

i will agree that L.A. has to have a Q.B. but other than that they have Seanez, Longoria, some Linebackers and dont forget that monster Ray Rodriguez TE/DE he is one of the captains that will really contribute to this football team again.

Whale Hunter,

Thanks for showing up right on cue with a brilliant and informative post. That's exactly the kind of masterpiece that I was referring to with my "WE RULE, YOU SUCK!!" point in my early statement. Keep up the quality work.

whale hunter said:

Panther pride has some useful insight, since they played and lost to just about EVERYBODY when the game meant something OR to the big dogs on the block. This should be a freaken great game, good luck CO, i saw EL DO nuke DR, come out flat and your done!...best wishes...

On the Qb position for LA next year it's up for grabs. JV Kid #11 Impresses me at times but coaches did not really let him settle in with switching Qb's every series. Kid has a strong arm has height and speed, a little on the light side but if he puts some weight on this summer kid can suprise people. Very talented kid from what I saw in limited playing time, and by the way Gano had this kid suited up on Friday nights. Gano must know something, remember Gano is a great talent evaluator.

Betty B said:

Yes there are teams "puffing" about how great they are. Charter Oak has kept quiet. They've let their playing speak for them thus far and no matter what happens tomorrow they deserve to be where they are. The last SGV team standing. You see it works this way, If you win you get to continue playing. If you lose you get to watch from the stands.

Just a side note:
And to every blogger out there who starts their posts with "I'm not putting them down but" or " Not to be disrespectful but" Just because you put a disclaimer in and then go on to say mean and nasty things about a team, coach or player doesn't make the comments okay because saying those things IS disrespectful and is putting someone down.

OC Football,

The Valley?!? the freakin' Valley??? Cut out the Santa Clarita Valley, and SO Notre Dame, and the Valley is piece of crap!! Terrible football.

The City section?! Don't make me laugh!

Conqs Fan said:

for me to say that not filling that position isnt important would be stupid.....but so much LA QBS success, past and present, comes from the system itself....Gano runs the west coast offense better than most in Southern CA.....if i were a goood QB playing in a bad system.....this would be the place for me.....LOOk at the numbers,,,,,

Panther Pride '06 said:

OCFOOTBALL, thanks for the props about Diamond Ranch's schedule. It was a great experience for our kids to see what that level of football was like. So many of these SGV teams talk a good game, but when it comes down to it, very few (if any) could compete. The DR team that we had this year was decent at best, but we managed to finish 2-2 in a very tight league. We got whacked by Edison and Servite this year, only to beat LA (17-14) and lose to CO 21-20 on a 70ish yard TD pass in the last minute of the game. Bonita, LA, and CO can puff up their feathers all they want about how great the are, but it's just not reality. They all would have been pasted by the big schools just as badly as we were. On a final note, just like I said about LA last week....CO, I think you're in trouble Friday night.

The time is now, for all SGV football fans to come out and make some noise! As a long time C.O. fan I would like to thank the group of girls, about 30 strong that made their own cheer group this year its great to see everyone getting involved to help the team! I'm sure it helps a lot. The cheerleaders this year seem to be doing the right cheers at the right time! Wow that's a shock! Now let's bring the 12th man, only the way C.O. fans can, make some noise and help the boy's.
Thanks team for the great Friday nights!

Hey Conqs fan,

Just being realistic here...I am not a LA basher...supported them against El Dorado...they played a a hard fought game and ran out of gas....Castaneda altho small is a tough postion to fill for next year...a recruit could help....lots of backers of LA calling for a step up in play with pac 5 in non league....You guys do execute the game very well and that comes from coaching but size wise the team is small. I do not seeing you guys winning league next year...remember you got in the playoffs because of the luck of a coin flip.......if you guys would have lost that coin flip I do not think anyone would be raving LA right about now....hey but luck counts...

CONQS FAN said:

for those LA haters out there especially MATMTWTBAG...... they are gonna be just fine next year especially with the core of that "D" coming back, kids will step up and take on larger roles, its seems to always happen that way.....they are not short on talent and coaching shouldnt be an issue......the only ? at this point would be QB.....but there is no doubt in my mind that someone will transfer.....the lower level QBS are most def. not ready....but on to the Topic on hand.......Friday will be a hard faught battle with El Do. coming out on top......CO has a great team but it seems as though El Do is on a mission, 17-14 Dorado

MATMTWTBAG said:
"next year will be different with LA.....losing lots of seniors and I dont see too many juniors that can step it up besides....Longoria, Seanez and Maciel........other then that what is left????"

LA returns:

OL:
J Contreras, Longoria, Magallon, Seamans

Plus another kid who blinked in and out of eligibility thanks to beaurocratic issues, but would otherwise have played varsity.

TE:
Rodriguez

A fairly big ommission from your list, I'd say.

WR:
Howing, Webb

Howing was also backup QB, so could be in the mix there, too. Webb is an awesome physical talent, but needs to progress both mentally and physically. Not that LA ever had trouble attracting receivers.

QB:
?

Wouldn't surprise me if one transfered in.

RB:
Felix, Seanez, Martinez

Felix is a serviceable running fullback. The other two are small backs, and would require a different offensive philosophy than "pound Ira between the tackles." Seanez has amazing open field speed.

DL:
Rodriguez, Longoria, J Contreras

Plus the other guy on the OL. The biggest need here is a backside passrusher to replace Levea.

LB:
Felix, Maciel, G. Avila, Martinez

Biggest need here is a middle guy to replace Acosta (whose loss hurt LA bigtime in the playoffs). Avila platooned in the El Dorado game for his welcome to varsity.

DB:
Howing, Seanez

Obviously help is needed here.

K, P:
Brown, Sofka, McKeehan

All of the kickers are back, plus the guy on the freshman team who's supposedly pretty good.

JD said:

This goes out to Don't Look Back, Please the kid longoria at qber I don't think so he is a hell of a kid but very soft, won't be able to lead a team and being pushed to do something he does'nt want to do. I here that the freshman qber was pretty good, but the JV Kid did not really get a chance to prove himself, and is pretty good given the chance.

OCFootball said:

oh what's the matter Jeremy....mommy didn't pack you a lunch today?

Your right....no bragging rights for the SGV until they schedule some of the big boys. Fox-Prime Ticket could care less about the SGV....that's the way it is and that's the way it will always be! In fact, the SGV is now the lil b*tch to the IE. Corona Centennial & Norco both got props from Fox! The Valley...YES...The OC...YES...City Section...YES...The IE...YES....SGV...NADA! You've been punked! Again and again and again! LMAO!

Kudos to Diamond Ranch for having the nads to schedule the big boys this year. Your time will come very soon!

Friday's is going to be a great night. Charter Oak is a powerful football program and it should be a great game for both teams. Win or lose...what a great year for El Dorado....all those Yorba Linda boys who stuck with "their" school and didn't sell out to Espy, O Lu, Mater Dei and Servite....your passion, dedication and loyalty has paid off. Now go get the trophy boys.

dont look back said:

hey b-ball these kids play up to anybody's size. held eldorado to 14? i agree with jeremy. they should look to move them up to some tougher teams, to prep them better for playoffs. you cant watch one game and conclude. size? come on...hey fan, look out for some big left handed throwing kid by the last name longoria to come in and take over the helm....

Benny Tone Deaf said:

I think the fact it is the championship game will make it a close one. I think we are in for a great game that will come down to the last possession.

THE COACH said:

from reading the comparosins from charter oak and el dorado i would have to say that el dorado played a much tougher season overall. charter oak played some good teams too but will. friday night, its either going to be a close one or just get real ugly anybody agree

Good luck CO.

MATMTWTBAG said:

I will give LA all the credit in getting to that semifinals game and playing one of the better games against stacked odds to win....Great coaching had your team in that game.....but to say they can play in or with the Pac5 is a crazy statement. I watched your team leave the field beofre the game and at half time and I was close up as the players walked by...Very small players...maybe good in the league but you could not or would not step them up to play a pac5 not to mention Sherman Oaks ND......size wise you would be killed.....please dont start with that Jeremy....you guys had a good run dont go ruin it by sizing them up to play at a higher level...it would be Ohio St. vs Mt. Sac....dont go there..enjoy what you had this year.....next year will be different with LA.....losing lots of seniors and I dont see too many juniors that can step it up besides....Longoria, Seanez and Maciel........other then that what is left????..who is the QB and running back after Castaneda and Thomas leave?

Hey Aram,

How about a new Basketball thread. The Tartens are 3-0 and looking strong! Anxious to see them against some better competition...will that be CO tonight at the GL tourney? Maybe but I doubt that Johnson kid will be playn for them. This is the 3rd team we'll face that has their football team in CIF still. Love the "Dog Pound" at the home games so far!

Jim Garrison said:

No offense Jeremy, but Notre Dame wouldn't have beaten LA 49-0. No, that would have been the half-time score.

LA is a solid team, no doubt. ND and the top teams in the PAC 5 play on a whole other level.

Aram said:

Benny,

None that I know of. I know the Trib will be putting together our usual 5-minute video package of the game with interviews and such. That will be available on our web site sometime after midnight. go to sgvtribune.com/preps to see it.

Jeremy said:

To: Gano, Farrar, and Bogan.

Please, please, please schedule some "OC Heavyweights", and Pac-5 teams next season(NOT LB Wilson, Western or Dana Hills, etc.), so we can finally shut these O.C. and Pac-5 supporters up! You know you can play with them, and possibly beat them. I'm so tired of hearing their crap.

Aparently, your post 70's CIF titles are just consolation prizes, and mean nothing.

Aparently, you aren't anyone unless you are over-exposed by Fox-sports, and the LA Times. . . . OH! . . . and getting the crap beat out of you by Pac-5 competition. The new Amat slogan: "We get our a**es handed to us week-in, week-out by the best." That's what makes them the class of the SGV.
Let me tell you something. L.A., wouldn't have been beatin' 49-0 by anyone, that includes S.O. Notre Dame.

Benny Tone Deaf said:

Aram, any idea if the game will be webcast or televised? Since it's not the Mighty Pac5, Inland or Northern Div. Fox won't be carrying it.

Are there any local SGV media companies that would carry it?

I've got family out of state that would like to listen or watch. Thanks!

OC Football,

CO Bro said:

DAD...Carreon is now on the defense. He plays a roving linebacker/defensive back. He is actually enjoying the position very much, and has been very successful. I asked him shortly after the switch how he liked the new position. His response..."I love it! A lot less pressure than playing QB".

Damien Dad said:

CO bro and Aram that was a great call! Wouldn't have believed it after seeing them against Damien but the truth is in the pudding as they say! Outstanding job by Farrar and Co. Congrats to ALL the players and fans! Best of luck in the Championship game.

Seen AJ Pasalo in that game and he's probably top two MLB in the SGV. He's quick, aggressive and has great pursuit angles. He's a little wild at times but hey he always GOES TO THE FIGHT! and that's what a MLB's supposed to do.

What's the deal with the "new" QB that replaced Carreon. Where does Carreon play now?

Aram said:

CO Bro,

I remember that post. I remember it was in response to be ranking CO No. 1 in the off-season. They've delivered!

CO Bro said:

I posted this in May, I said CO was poised for a two year run to the finals. I'm going to Vegas Baby!

I have been watching most of these players play this game since they were 8 and 9 years old. I have seen them progress in their abilities all these years. We all knew that when these boys reached high school it was going to be something special. Well as Aram stated there were 16 sophomores on the team last year. 16! I think that says something right there about the talent this team possess. I remember last year during spring practice there was some talk that Drew could throw the deep ball better than any previous C.O quarterback. With Michael Johnson as a deep threat this year I’m sure Dom will let Drew air it out. We have at least two capable running backs returning from last year’s team. Johnny Crespo and Kanaan Snowden both sophomores, will get the bulk of the work. But as Aram stated, the defense will be the star of this team. With a dominating d-line lead by a man-child David Altimirano. The linebackers have all returning players lead by a sure All League player AJ Pasalo, but watch out for sophomore Mike Howard! With Ben Counce and Crespo at d-backs it will be very hard to pass against them. Be prepared for a minimum 2 year run to the finals. Like you Aram October 13 (happy b-day) is already circled on my calendar!

I never seen El Dorado, I only heard what they are all about through newspapers and from this blog. Thanks Aram for this forum. I have seen CO once. It was the first of nine straight wins. Like Aram said in the pre-seasson prep issue, CO is big and talented. They struggled in that game against Claremont taking an early lead only to lose it. It was also when Allen became the starting QB. The Chargers came up with a late turnover and cashed it in with a TD and won it on the 2-point conversion. Hopefully the SGV will turnout and support the only local team playing for a title. Go Chargers!
