Way too early area Top 10 for the 2007 football season ...

Damon Kuklinski and South Hills could be your early Southwest Division favorite
Way too early area Top 10 for 2007
But first, a quick thought from Aram: From everything I've seen and heard, I think the area is poised to have some major success over the next 1-5 years. The bulk of this is likely to come from Amat, Los Altos, South Hills and Charter Oak. No surprise, right? From frosh to junior classes this year, these programs appear to be absolutely loaded. It'll be fun to see what happens.
1. Bishop Amat - McBride, Wells, Wagner, Austin, Seals ... need I go on? Think about how many players got PT this year due to injury. Experience doesn't look like it will be a problem for HC Verti. The senior class should be one of Amat's best in recent memory. The lower classes were good, from what I hear. I can tell you what I saw - Amat's frosh team looked to be absolutely loaded. I don't know if there's a policy at Amat about playing sophs, but I'd imagine some will get significant time. The Amat people really need to help me on this. The Lancers need to find a QB as that looks to be the big question mark right now. I'm not kidding when I say this, but I think as close as things are in the PAC-5, Amat could make one of the biggest rebounds in SoCal next season. Quite possibly a semifinalist if things break right.
2. South Hills - Kuklinski, Heard, Bowden, Umodu, Parham, De La Fuente will all be back. Kuklinski will enter the season as arguably the area's top linebacker. Parham will be one of the top QBs. Heard and De La Fuente will provide the offensive supporting cast. South Hills had an excellent frosh team this year. The defense has its top two leading tacklers back as well as its top DL in Umodu. Due to injuries, several players lettered this year. This team could be very, very scary in '07.
3. Charter Oak - Up to 10 starters will be back on defense led by Carreon, Perri and Altimirano. The offense will return QB Allen, RBs Snowden and Crespo. The offensive line will be new, but one coach said it might be better than this year! WR Harrell could be one of the top playmakers in the area if his championship game is any indicator. Now you know why Big Lou will be back.
4. Los Altos - Leading QB, RB and WR are gone. But, TE Rodriguez will be back along with WR Seanez. QB could be Howling? The defense will have DL Longoria and LBs Felix and Maciel. Don't forget about frosh all-purpose player Donte Webb, who didn't do much this season but should become a major threat next year. LA's frosh team was supposedly outstanding - 9-1, I think. This program is poised to make another big run over the next few years. Plus, you never know what will transfer in.
5. Glendora - The defense should be a team strength with LBs Niles and Horn back. The offense must replace do-everything RB Edmond, but RB Vega showed signs of being able to handle the load. QB duties should go to Kaluzny, who obviously showed enough this year to get some series in big games, so you have to assume he'll be ready for primetime. All league OLs Kovar and McGarry also return, too. The Tartans need more athletes to take the next jump.
6. Damien - This might be a stretch, but I like Pertusati taking over at QB, assuming that's what happens. RB Williams returns as does OL Schmitz. The DL has leading sacker DE Rabe back. I'm not sure how Damien's lower levels were this year, but I thought I heard they were good.
7. Duarte - The offense will again be explosive with QB Goldsmith, RB Harris and all-purpose Reese returning. The defense has second leading tackler Hayes, a soph, back. Didn't hear too much about Jordan Canada this year, but assuming he's back, that's yet another athlete for HC Crutchfield to utilize. The question is will Crutchfield be back?
8. South El Monte - It's hard to separate the Eagles, Arroyo and Rosemead, thus making it possible that there will be a tri-champ against next year. QB Garay and WR Cogburn return to headline the offense. Cogburn is the league's best weapon and only Rosemead with Tra Sumler has something to possibly counter him with. The defense returns the leauge's leading sacker in Perez and the third leading tackler in Navarro. I have no clue how Escamilla is doing it?
9. Diamond Ranch - Simply having RB Aubrey Haynes back should make the Panthers a contender in the Miramonte. Also, it appears that HC Layton has the program headed in the right direction after the '05 fiasco. There's always athletes to work with for whomever is the coach, so the Panthers should be able to at least hang athletically with the rest of the league.
10. San Dimas - This is another ranking I could easily be talked out of by Easter. You have to respect any team with a running back like Nico Barbone. Plus, rumor has it that the Saints were decent on the lower levels, which should only help. HC Zernickow had a big job to do to improve the overall toughness of the players in the program and it looks like things are on the right track. With Covina needing an overhaul and Northview still possibly a year away, San Dimas should be the VVL's early favorite since it has the league's best player returning.

Man this sucks Wells is gone! I just spoke to his dad and it is official he isnt coming back to Amat.
Where in that am I talking crap? "He know's football", "motivates kids", "well liked by players", "SEM is much better than they had been". So where is this personal? If it were personal I would list the issues (that are well known) that he has had with his own administration/district. But since this isn't an attack on Urias, just an opinion on whether he has a future as an HC in the MVL I will leave it alone. Is he qualified to be an HC? Absolutely. But that wasn't the original topic. Now if he got his degree & a credential to teach than I think he'd be an easy hire somewhere. End of the day no walk-on is getting an HC job, let alone a coach that has issues with his own administration. If your upset with my "good, not great" comment? I did say SEM is much better but in 4 years I think they are 19-25, with one winning season, 2 playoff berths & one tri-championship. Is that great? Or is it good? Anyway, I am done with this subject since it looks like there are only about 2 people interested. I follow all the MVL teams closely but I'd bet the house that you guys (Knights & Arroyo 42) are really SEM players, fans or coaches. Either way no sweat. Good luck.
Wow,
MVL sound like it's personal, look's like your scared off by what he may do ? I know Jerry Urias and he is one heck of a football coach. He has been at South for 5 years now (1st year with the freshmen team, only loosing to Arroyo for the league title) and just finished his fourth on the varsity level and each year has improved that program (ALL BY HIM/SELF). I don't know what issues your talking about with the Administration or what you think you know ? they should be thankful for what he has done for the school and their program, not talking crap. Ask all the kids he has helped what they think about him ? the guy goes out of his way to do what ever he can for the kids and guide them in the right path, if that's a problem then we are doing something wrong. As for your opinion, well your full of crap, you sound like an idiot who is afraid of being expose, maybe you coach in the MVL ? quit attacking the guy, he is great for the game, and for the kids. I hope someone gives him the chance to prove himself and we will all see what he can do, how he can win games and make kids better all around.
The MVL is run by administrators & AD's. Each school "recommends" a candidate to the district. The EMUHSD has the last word. I have heard that some MVL schools (EM/RHS) have had issues with Urias. I just think the SEM administration is getting tired of having to defend itself because of controversy that Urias is probably way too close to. The guy know's his X's & O's, is a good motivator, & is well liked by the players. But players don't hire coaches, administrators do. And no school is gonna take a walk on varsity coach that has been linked to some controversial issues. When his own administrators are saying publically that he needs to move on, I can't imagine another MVL school wanting to hire him as a head coach. SEM is much better than they had been, but Urias as been there how long? 4 or 5 years? 2 playoff berths and one tri-championship is good, but not great.
Glendora's ranking for the projected next year is exactly where we have been for the past few years.....(middle of the pack for SGV). 2007 will display a team that has played together and won dating all the way back to Jr All-American FB. Coach P and staff will see the difference in this team compared to others...spring will rolls around and the crowd and fans will be the benifactors of a winning season and witness a real stab at the sierra league. The O will be better in alot of ways with a QB that can move on the run and still have the ability to throw with a high degree of completion. The D will be awesome with several returners leading the way and the SP teams will be sharper then ever. By the fourth game of 2007 SGV-trib readers will have a new leader as number one. Nothing but plaid baby!

Hey MVL.
Who's in charge of the MVL ? Should each school be in charge of their own hires ? Please explain what your talking about... Are you in charge of something your not telling us about ? All I know is the guy is a great coach and from what I hear has helped lot's of kids take the next step and some of them are playing at small colleges and getting their education, hard to find something wrong with that don't you think ? When has South El Monte made a run like the one they started since he arrived on the scene ? I also heard he coached at Arroyo (Fresh/team) before going to South El Monte and helped mentor and still keeps in touch with some of them, sound like he's in this for all the reasons we all love and follow high school football, I know I would want him to coach my kid so the MVL better be listening....
Morgan : This is what happened. Damien caught lightning in a bottle (Mendrun) this year! Just like the last time Damien won the sierra league with scotty at the helm. Damien had a record breaking stud on offense that year as well. Ian Johnson was also breaking records..the next year scotty went 2-8! Damien might go 5-5 next year as easily as they could go 8-2 like this year. Let's look at Damien's scheduled opponenets for next year. Riverside Poly 3-7 sucks, Ayala 2-8 sucks, Diamond Bar 0-10 sucks, Claremont 3-7 sucks that's 4-0! Chino 4-6 sucks without Monger (scotty's safe) That's easily 5-0... combined records 13-36! What a POWDER PUFF schedule! And the reason why scotty gets out coached and out muscled in the playoffs every year! St. John Bosco 5-4 plus a forfeit.(Kiki Mendoza is scotty's clone and his equal as a coach! SJB's Coach Mendoza took a team that was ranked 7th in STATE!!! up to week 5 and finished out of the playoffs! Only win in league was a J Serra forfeit! Mendoza's 4-10 in league the last 3 years w/ forfeits! while scotty's gone 4-6 in league prior to going 5-0 this year over the same 3 years), Los Altos 8-5(scotty's 1-2 vs. Gano), Charter Oak 10-4(Farrar's team went to the semis. toss up vs. senior loaded team!) both are Div 6 former champions, Chino Hills 8-3 it took a Mendrun miracle for scotty to finally beat Roche and Chino Hills or Damien's one and done again vs. Norco in the 1st round!(scotty's 1-3 vs Roche), Glendora 7-4( scotty's 1-3 vs. Pasqy)Still scotty makes the playoffs and keeps his job at 6-5 and exits 1st round again! scotty's 4 year damien record a stellar 24-20 and playoffs 1-3...isn't that good enough to be ranked higher than 6 preseason? When you're average you're average and Damien is AVERAGE when it comes to football. Deal with it!
remember damien was 8th in the beggining of the season last year. then look what happened. 1st!!!!!!!
I know Urias went to Temple, did he get a degree? The other reason I can't see him getting an HC job is that I don't think he has a teaching credential, or maybe even a degree? Most schools will not leave there varsity FB team in the hands of a walk-on.
Urias obviously knows football & he can motivate kids, but he has way too many problems with his own administration to be getting an MVL job anytime soon. Those in charge of the MVL are concerned with 2 things: #1 Not causing problems. #2 Football.
sgvguru...why?
Are you out a little out of line? what are you talking about? what did taylor do to travis?
I think blourca you need to get over that soph
wide out taylor h. at Damien.I wish he would have caught the 15 big plays he dropped. He finished I believe with 10 catches for the season according to maxpreps.Damien needed him to raise his level of play.Hope he gets better over a years time.
What up dog? that man to watch for next year is Brandon Tatera #69 for damien this fool is good n hell start at tight end. watch out for this fool, later dawg
Hey Aram,
Regarding South El Monte :
I will tell you how Eric is doing it, JERRY URIAS that's how. Open your eyes and take a closer look, why do you think I called out for Arroyo to hire this guy, he's in charge of everything at South El Monte and the kids love him, one of my cousins kids plays for him and I have had the chance to see what he is doing over there and the guy is a great coach. Coach Urias keep up the good work, and ARROYO ( PLEASE, PLEASE hire him now ). GO Knights
People, please stop talking about freshman and JV records. They mean nothing. JV is a joke. All that matters are numbers and quality kids. Covina always has that and that is why they are always solid.
charter choke is going to have alot of players return but it aint going to be anything to worry about because they allways choke. they come out loud and looking good but when its playing time forget it. they allways have a big team but remember only 11 players can play it dont matter if you come out with 90 players on varsity.
AT. u got to be stupid to put south hills in front of charter oak.
Thanks Coach Mac!You're right Glendora will bounce back and Kuluzny and Vega will lead the way on Offense! The jv team beat you guys but Damien fought hard. Should be a great game now that we're ALL on varsity. As far as CO will be back in the championship game next year as long as we work hard and follow our coaches. Just like you taught us! Good to see you and Andrew at the game supporting your former players. Thanks.
WORKAM IN O7 BABY! EVERYBODY MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!!! THAT GAME AGINST AZUSA IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the best defense in the valley has 10 returners coming back...uh ohhhhh
It figures to be a real exciting year in 2007 for the VVL. Real evenly matched between Northview,San Dimas, B.P., and Covina. It will be great to watch or hear about every game. I see everyteam beating up on each other.
Northview returns 8 starters on offense and 6 on defense. Plus many kids gained experience because of all the injuries they had. They should be much improved next year. Remember they beat San Dimas! That was more of the more exciting games in the valley this year.
NORTHVIEW starting 5 underclassmen?-How about Rrosemead starting 6 sophomores and 2 jrs on defense and 5 underclassmen on offense not including Tra Sumler who split time with the Wilson kid- (Paul Wilson)
Go Colts!
WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN AND THE MOON GOES UP....
AT,
Throw out some good hoops topics.
You never know what you might get when you troll for comments
I can respect that. I saw alot of the freshman VVL games this year and it seemed as if there was alot of parity. San Dimas was good as well as Northview. It seems as B.P. has had alot of talented freshman teams recently....
Bravetown,
i actually have no allegiance to one particular program at all. I know players who have played and coached in the SGV, from los altos, to arroyo, to Schurr (are they SGV) back up to Northview....so i watch alot of football, and its not always just the varisty, i go to the 3;15 games involving freshman and JV...
Saw BP freshman play a few times, looks like some good talent on a VVL scale...
jus my opinion...
R-E-S-P-E-C-T who is your team? Which program are you a backer of? Just curious to hear other peoples opinion about certain programs..
C-Town,
not that is any indication how a varsity team will afre,m but since you opened up the box, i guess ill see whats inside. Yes, Covina may have dressed up 80 plus kids at the freshman level, but Northview's freshman stomped on your freshman this year with only suiting up about 35 kids, so numbers dont tell the stroy or what is awaiting. Still, the best freshman class in the VVL was Baldwin park's...hands down!
I'm still in for basketball.
Manny, Moe and Jack....
Wow that must be some level of insecurity that you harbor towards me. I had my say and you've had yours. Mine is about sports and yours is about me. Who's the one with issues. Eveyone who needed to apologize has. Everyone who's still under a rock hasn't. I guess that makes your day to come here and have at me.
Maybe you read "Wings" kind words and it unsettled you. Or maybe it was Mrs. Mc Donough's kind words that unsettled you. or Mike McD's kind words that made you jealous. Or maybe Mike the Clone. Or Randy. Or Blu, or others that just enjoy talking football because we love the sport and enjoy the blog as a way to shoot the breeze.
Must have been 74-Colt Alumni who offered to donate $200 sent to Aram for the Bloggers Pizza Blast. Or maybe it was the mention that Reg and Aram thought it was a good idea and would consider going that made you say something again. The "BLAST" seemed like a good idea and no one but you mentioned the stupidity of it. I really don't know. I can not say your words don't affect me, of course they do..I'm human and they would bother you as well but I won't respond in a negative way. It was a waste of time and "pulling the legs off of spiders" was never my style.
But I am NOT Cop/Coach. I sign differently when I'm asking THAT person a question. Done it for months...like "Manny, Moe and Jack?" Besides when I sign Damien Dad you seem to gather up the strenght to say something unpleasant.
Maybe you just need to find some peace within yourself and stop the nonsense. Damien doesn't come off as a nice place does it? I don't remember a school other than Damien that ALL bloggers and Aram told to chill out, can you?
Don't you feel better knowing I forgive you. As far as Coach Lucero goes...he's a great coach. I know "absolutely nothing about wrestling", to (borrow the phrase) and enjoy that I don't. I find it facinating to hear Mr. Silva break things down for me. I know he's smiling from ear to ear when he does, lol. I love that. He wrestled in High School ...offered to help and Coach Lucero (being very secure) brought him on board! That's cool. Eddie Gomez telling me what's going on in a match is a start towards healing old wounds. Try being the bigger man sometime. Your insecurity is monstrous and your evil is consuming you. And it shows.
But these wrestlers are amazing....the will and effort they put into every match is incredible. The practices are 3 hrs. long and the sweat is everywhere! All the coaches are instructional and helpful..even Frank Jr's there to help his Dad. Ain't that a beautiful thing..giving back?
So maybe you can find it in your heart to move on...or not. Maybe because you're a better person than me or at least think so. Anyway God bless you.
Listen up people,
The ARROYO KNIGHTS will be the areas most improved team from this season to next... The freshman and JV teams both completely annihilated the MVL this year. Both teams went undefeated in league and left no doubt to who's the big bad boss! Remember, Singiser coached the JV and Varsity Knights this year... Also, the Varsity team went 4-1 in the MVL, only losing to that school in the south by six points, but took a share of that crown too since the south lost to rosemead and ARROYO beat rosemead.. so an overall league record of 14-1, but at ARROYO, even that is not good enough. GO KNIGHTS GO!
Aram,
Thanks for this blog it really is a great thing. seniors God bless all of you and the life decisions that all of you have to make.Parents thanks for the last 4 years on the field (Miramonte League) amzing to see these kids grow in talent from freshman year til now. I am partial to LA Rex I love you son God Bless You. And I swear this football season is done time now to blog basketball. may God Bless All of You
Foss' Dad
"Aram"
Summer camp is only six months away...
You keep throwing up the occasional topic (football), and we'll throw our two cents in.
Like I said in the beginning, I'm going to do this no matter what the hits are. I know that interest inevitably drops from football to hoops to baseball. Football readership and everything else isn't comparable. But I get pretty into the hoops and bases.
Aram
Forget hoops and bases.
Football is the real rush!
C-Town
Get real! Bonita, and Covina LOL
Maybe West Covina!
Hey,
Are you guys all out now that football is over? Or will you keep hitting this site during hoops and bases?
Hey Clone, right back at you!
Hey VVL,Northview is good, San Dimas is better, (Started 5 sophomors and 3 Juniors on O, and 3 sophomors and and 5 Juniors on D) but lets be real here Aram. West Covina is better, Bonita is better, and you can't count out Covina. They are solid every year and have 80 kids out for freshman football. I'm sure they have other studs (speedsters) waiting. I'll take a west covina kid and a covina kid over a soft dimas kid any day.
Covina Player
Think Again!
Silly me for forgetting Taylor Herrera! He made some tremendous catches for the Spartans this season as a sophomore!
Now for some kids I could never forget...
As for the Glendora JV comments...yes they went undefeated. They beat Damien 19-0 but the 3 TD's were scored on long runs by a junior who was also the starting kickoff return man for the varsity. Until that game soph Zach Morton was the starter.
A name to watch for for the Tartans is QB Andrew Kaluzny. He will be a great one someday. I coached him in Jr. All-American and even as an 11 year old he had poise and pocket presence far beyond his years. He played sparingly this season but did well for a soph who got 10-12 snaps a game. He led a great drive versus Damien for a score before getting removed.
As long as I am talking about kids I have coached, I need to give props to C.O. soph LB/DE Evan Williams. I was proud of him last friday as he constantly fought larger o-linemen and double teams. He plugged gaps and still was getting into El Dorado's backfield. He and fellow soph DE Tyler Perri will be terrorizing Miramonte League offenses for two more years. Both are also outstanding kids!
There are kids at Bonita, San Dimas, Azusa and Gladstone as well as Glendora, C.O. and Damien that I have coached and/or watched grow up.
The next couple of years will be fun for me.
Hey cop/coach
Or Damien dad, Keeping it real, or my favorite Mr Corona!!!!!!!!
Still having conversations with your self i see lololololol
Wow the time you must have on your hands!! Post a question to your self than answer it!!!! lololololol!!!
Hows the big "PIZZA BLAST" coming??? hehehehe Any sponsers yet??? hahahahahaha
Now on the serious side. Im sure 3 weeks into wrestling you know everything there is to know about wrestling right?? "What ya gonna do when macho MR. Corona puts a post down on you"? hahaha
Coach Lucero is lucky to have you around!!!!
COVINA, 3-peat in VVL. alot of underclassmen stepping up this year
Thanks Mike the clone you have a good one too. You rocked the boat at times and made me laugh at others but that what this is here for.As for your ego obviously someones jealous either that or that guy yourstillamoron is on the coaching staff at glendora still defending their finishing third and a one and done season AGAIN. you tell me Mike who the morons are? Oh wait I think I already know your answer. have a great off season
Colt Alumni,
Sorry my bad...
I didn't realize Aram and yourself were excluded from your comments when you said "I get a kick out of reading this blog...not even one week after football season is officially over for the SGV teams. All this talk already about "may", "could", "might", "possibly"....."
Aram only said "could" 5 times, "might" 1 time and "possibly" 1 time during his early prediction post. And you only said "Possibly" only once in your post.
By the way, just so I know, how many times would somebody have to say those words in their post before we can join those who will "prop ourselves up on our bar stools and start in with the "we are THE team " hoopla." :) Keep up the predictions Aram, most of us truly appreciate it, even if OUR favorite team has dropped off!
Hopefully SGV football will make even a greater impact next year.
Predictions,
Don't let comments, like those of Colt Alumni, prevent you from jumping right in with both feet and commenting on something that you read but obviously did not comprehend. If I make a direct statement to Aram I do it like this:
Aram...
Since I did not do this my post was NOT directed at Aram or against his pre-pre-pre-season predictions. Hell, I even agreed on two of them. My opinions were directed to the rest of "us" ( me included )( and it's still funny as hell ) sitting on our bar stools and singing "We are the world " when in fact this early in the game we can't possibly fathom who "WE" is.... It's like starting a conversation about what if next year the sun burns out.... here we go again..what if....
Like I have always said ..."What good is speed reading if you don't comprehend what you read?"
Ok...now jump right in with the rest of us..."We are the world...."
Aram,
Can I make a suggestion? When the the SGV Tribune Player of the Year is published, can you include the list of previous winners? I'm sure many football fans and readers would like to see and remember names forgotten from the past.
I think your early top-ten list for next year is pretty good. I've seen Charter Oak, Duarte, Damien, South El Monte, Diamond Ranch, and San Dimas this season. Most were young and talented. Some teams that are not on your list that I seen and thought would be good next year were Los Altos, Norhtview, and Azusa.
Thanks again for this blog.
And I got my hopes up! Evidently “One last time does not mean the last time. I have never seen anyone feed his ego through a Blog like this guy.
Hey I posted this on another thread but wanted it here so here goes again sorry for being repetitious
Greetings!
I am Mike the Clone and you are Not!
With that said:
Charter Oak you guys had a great run and again here is another situation where you kids have nothing to be ashamed about. The quote that coach gave Aram after the game say’s it all about what happened. Just read what he said:
"Every time we got close, we couldn't finish," Farrar said. "I thought we had enough defense to keep us in the ballgame. All we really needed was a break. Some nights, you don't get the breaks.
"They (El Dorado) were the better team on the field tonight. They deserve everything. They made all the big plays."
That is a true veteran coach who knows how to deal with a loss with class.
Coach Lou Farrar you are the true champion through all of this. Your old school and there are not too many like you around anymore. You don’t wear a hat backwards; roam the sidelines in shorts for a Friday night game. For you it’s all business. You lead by example; you’re a leader not a follower.
I watched the interview you did after my “bagpipers beat you and I watched the interview you gave before the playoff luncheon and after your loss to El Dorado and I was just thinking to myself just how fortunate the kids at Charter Oak are lucky to have a head coach like you.
Thanks Coach for a great year and the class you show.. you’re a true leader!
Well guys and gals the prep season of football is over and it was a successful year for the San Gabriel Valley for the most part, although it was frustrating for this “bagpiper honk.
For a lot of these kids they won’t play football ever again. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to play at the next level, Division 1 football. So the lessons they have learned from the game will be one’s they carry with them forever.
To all my “blog buddies Bluorca, 76Colt, Jeffrulerson, MATMTWTBAG, Big Daddy, The “original Bleedsblungold, Plaidman, Buck, Damien Dad and the few of you that I’m missing it has been a blast talking about the game I love and the game obviously you guys love too. High school football is a formative time of these young men’s lives and no matter how much we all have disagreed or agreed the one thing I think we all have in common and that we all care passionately about each others respective programs and the direction that program is going.
“Coach P Shottenheimer if Marty Shottenheimer and the Chargers win the Super Bowl the bar gets raised……just joking!!!!!
Above all thanks to Aram Tolegian a.k.a “The Big Guy, or A.T., whatever you call Aram he and the suits at the Tribune gave us all a great forum to talk our smack or cry us a river. We all owe Aram big thanks for letting us rant sometimes to the point where we were a little incoherent at times. He has worked his ass off for us with the Trib’s coverage of football
A.T. speaking on behalf of all of us and I think I can on this one, Thanks for a great year of football coverage. Your hard work did not go unnoticed and we all appreciate it very much. We are truly spoiled with the coverage you gave us.
I still remember early in the year when you had that conversation with your sister about Amat being your team, that was a total crack up.
So in closing thanks you guys and gals it’s been fun And it's time for the Clone to hit the basement till next year. Hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year and above all thanks Aram again it’s been a blast!
For one last time!
I am out!
and
GOOD NIGHT NOW!
Mike the Clone
Aram,
Don't let comments, like that of Colt Alum, prevent you from posting top 10 predictions even if it is way to early. Us prep football fans are already talking about next year. We want to hear about returning players, etc.. I already miss the excitement of the season and am anxious for next season to begin. Can't wait for practice to start!! Let's hear more about next years inside scoop, who is returning, coaching changes, what team will see the most changes, etc.
Keep up the good work Aram and remember, NO FOOTBALL NEWS=NO POSTINGS... that simple!
Aram...
I think this year the key for Covina is for the coaches and staff to do some "in house" recruiting. They have to get the numbers up for kids coming out to play. Their is no reason for any kids to have to be playing both ways on the field. I think what the coaching needs to do is to start actively going after these kids right now and hit the weight room as early as possible. Back in the days we had one class ( officially PE ) called weight training during the school day that ALL the football players had to be in.
I think that if the coaching staff does not jump on getting the bodies to come out this year..it's going to be a long one....
The key for Covina will be to keep their kids home and eligible. Running the offense they do, I don't know what kid wouldn't want to play in that system.
I get a kick out of reading this blog...not even one week after football season is officially over for the SGV teams. All this talk already about "may", "could", "might", "possibly".....
I can't help but when I hear those words I always get a mental flashback to what someone said years ago and it stuck with me...
"If my aunt "might" have had testicles she "may " have been my uncle"...
I think that it is definitely WAY TOO EARLY to even begin contemplating all these possible what ifs. I think that after spring training starts next year and we all see who and what we have THEN and only then can we prop ourselves up on our bar stools and start in with the "we are THE team " hoopla.
I am glad to see that everyone has already started chiseling the tombstone for Covina though.... it makes it that much more sweet when they surprise everyone. Like they did the last two years.....
My "Gut" feeling for the V. V. League next year is San Dimas will be tough. I think that the stars will align for them.
I also agree with Aram on Bishop Amat. With two years of bad tastes in their mouths I can't possibly see them doing anything other than handing out a bottle of mouthwash to each player and coach and taking care of business this year.
Hey Northview fan, any concern that your coach might be leaving back to his alma mater of El Rancho. Rumor has it that that head coach job is going to be opening up over at the Ranch.......
In regards to the VVL next year, i think it's going to be a wide open race. Right now, i would have to say Northview is the team to beat followed closely by San Dimas.Baldwin Park will be very good next year as well. Covina will be tough, but not close to what they have been. And than the Pomona schools. well, they are pomona schools.
I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
True, there is good talent holding over for the next senior class AND good JV talent coming up next year at Amat but HOW Verti uses them is the burning question.
If Oaks Christian or Orange Lutheran had a dud coaches, do you think they would have been able to pull of what they did this year? You can have all of the talent in the world but it won't mean squat if you can't put them to good use.
An average coach will take a great player and make him average but a good coach will take an average player and make him better. You could put a JC squad on the field but with what results?
It all comes down to the tools the kids are given and how they are used. Remember, too many kids going both ways only leads to getting burned out by the 4th quarter and the likelyhood of injury increases. They need to "coach" the other kids to be better and not use the same 11 on both sides of the ball, it only makes sense.
Good luck to ALL valley schools next year, hopefully those that fell by the roadside can take that extra step and reach the ultimate goal.
We are Amat, one part of the SGV.
Absolutely correct you are "Performance"...Respect is earned, not bestowed upon, but i think u got my SN and asking that Northview be respected crossed. I am not asking that northview be respected, because i in fact agree with you, 4-6 does not warrant it. But its said right there, "hard to separate the three MVL teams, rosemead, South El monte and Arroyo", and with Northview demolishing Rosemead last year, im asuming they could have also hung with the other two foes. Then you add the fact that they have alot comingback next year, perhaps they could be a team to watch, OVER south el monte, but who knows.
I probably dont get involved in this discusion if it not for the fact that a MVL team cracked the top 10, and at 8 nonetheless.
your honest opinion, would you watch for South over northview?
perhaps yes, perhaps not....
Mikeyy
Your the only Joke!
Bishop will crash you! Bring it on and get your old coach to play us next year!
QB who can't throw or run and your guys need a real big time running back.
to Huskies fan, in regards to Zuniga from Amat, he is a great baseball player can play some football as well but is very slow on his feet i don't think Amat wants to take a chance with Zuniga and remember he was out of football for this year. Zuniga is not the answer for Amat.
Respect
It's something you have to earn!
Getting crashed by Pomona and ending up with a 4-6 record doesn't get you ranked.
Aram is exactly right in not ranking you guys. A fifth place finish doesn’t warrant it.
You guys will recover and be good, because you were young and inexperienced.
C'mon Aram,
Gotta give Noryview some love, if not 9 or 10, then possibly others to watch. I mean no way shape or form would any decent football guru put a mission valley league team in the top 10 for next year, as bad as nortview was, and they did have their shining moments, i mean, they did beat big bad San Dimas and Nic Barbone 40-30 last year, but i know what all are going to say, then lost to pomona and baldwin park horribly, but that was starting many Soph's at the skilled position (like QB)..i mean it could easily be said Northview could have won the MVL, they ansolutely demolished Rosemead last year, and Rosemead was in the thick of things in that league race. Trust me on this (or not) the QB over at Northview, only a soph this year, is going to be good.
And wait, is Covina really gonna fall of the map next year? I hope so, but i dont think so....
Cop/Coach
I agree with you on many issues. The coaching staff at Damien needs a lot of work. Coach Mo can be a good head coach. He has the skills to motivate and has the respect of his players in that area. Damien does need a offensive cord. as well as a defensive cord. The play calling is horrible year in and year out at Damien. We had a large offensive line this year and did not open any holes let alone push any def. line back all year. Nobody can dispute that. Watch the films. On the defensive side of the ball they had the talent but, never made adjustments to stop the run ie. Temescal. Damien still would not have won that game but, to not adjust and give your team a chance is a joke. Damien had a lot of talent this year. That is why they ended up 9-3 not because of the coaching. Next year's senior class has won or shared 3 stright league championships. They have talent but to win a forth but, to do that they win have to play at least five or six players both ways. That includes Pertisati. Damien has to change their ways to be succesful. Most of the top programs around have 5 or 6 of their best ateletes playing both ways. Instead of playing a kid because of who he is or his size put the best player in that position. Damien had at least two of these players on each side of the ball this year. Many coaches in the valley are always saying that they would love to have Damiens size and talent. I can't blame them. Bottom line next year Damien will have a good chance to defend their title but, will have to change their stagnet coaching ways. Change is good if things are not working
I heard from a few Amat football/baseball players that they are going to try to talk Sophomore Pitcher Zuniga into playing QB for the Lancers. I thought he'd be the starting QB for South Hills by now. He was a ballboy for the Huskies his 8th grade year. He has a big time arm and happens to be 6'3". Any Amat fans know of him?
What is up with Duarte? Is the coach coming back?
CHARTER OAK HAS 10 STARTERS ON D COMMING BACK. WITH A SHOPHMORE QUARTERBACK THAT HAS EXPERINCE IN THE FINALS WITH A HEAD COACH WORKING ON HIS 41 YEAR.
BISHOP AMAT.-JOKE.
SAN DIAMS-JOKE.

Keep talking about Football for next year and you'll get your 100,000 hits!!
Gotta love football!
Aram
What's really funny is how everyone said "We don’t recruit, yet allot of rumors about transfers and coaches moving around!
EVERYONE RECRUITS AND WANTS THE BETTER PLAYERS!
Get over it
If Co, SH, and SD stay healthly, all these teams will be very good next year.
There rosters tell the story not to mention the talent on the teams!
Young teams maturing together do get better as time goes on! It will be exciting for SGV Football!
You guys are all funny about whos transfering to CO and how South Hills is loaded and that LA is hungry for a CIF Title and that San Dimas is going to be great, Give me a break. NOBODY knows what the hell its going to look like next year, if thats the case lets talk about ALL the returners from WEST COVINA and the new players that are coming out with the new coaches that are transfering, Oh you didnt know about that... opsss
anyway good luck to all...
Aram,
San Dimas' JV & Frosh went 9-1, taking the league at both levels. JV loss was to Bonita and the Frosh loss was to BP.
Like I said in my May 06 post, "Look out for 2007". The VVL champions for the next 2-3 years should be the Saints!

You're right about Damien's inept coaching at the lower levels. Someone mentioned that before. Damien will continue their annual Senior exodus of starters on offense(Mendrun, Travis, Lee, Harper,Sapienza Lucero,Marine,De La Torre, Murrillo, Pittman, Turner, Hernandez) and defensive starters (Walsh, Luiten, Uche, Hile, Gomez, Stokes, Harper, Lucero). That's as quirky as Glendora's Coach P. "pooch" kickoffs...no one else does it so "they" must know something no one else does...THEY'RE BRILLIANT !!! Just like the Guinness Beer commercials... No they're just stubborn.
Get some lower level coaches who know what they're doing and coach by position(QB, RB,DLine, Oline, DB, WR) and have a practice plan. Hire a Varsity Defensive Coordinator who knows something about defending the Wing T and Smash Mouth option running teams that dominate the Inland Division (Norco, Chapparal, TC, ect). UCLA/Dorrell hires Defensive Coordinator Walker and Bang! USC goes down and Notre Dame should have as well. Div. Champs Colony has former U of La Verne graduates on their staff. Good coaches are out there ..FIND THEM! APU, Mt.SAC,Chaffey,Citrus,ULV are in our backyard! Damien alum Justin Mags just finished his football career at APU and helps with Damien's wrestling program! He'd make a great JV or Freshmen line coach.
You might have noticed how many Soph. played major roles on playoff teams this season and yet Morrison has played 2 Sophs (WRs Travis E. and Taylor H.)over 4 years. WR...same position Morrison played in HS and College. Reminds me of the "Old Clippers" when GM Elgin Baylor would draft nothing but small forwards...same position he played! Same thing at his previous job...great offense, great QBs great WRs...massive offensive numbers....almost identical. Tendencies kill us all. Look it up. Marin Catholic 5 seasons 1998-2002...12-0, 5-6,5-6,5-5,3-8....(30-25) After Morrison left Marin Catholic 2003-2005...12-1,11-2,10-3...(33-6). Morrison at Damien after 4 years 8-3,2-8,6-5,9-3...(25-19) Next year will be the make or break year for Morrison and his staff and yet they put 1 "experienced qualified" coach on the lower levels staff. That's difficult to understand and hard to justify.
Charter Oak was loaded with So. last year and took their lumps early but ended up in the Championship Game this year as Juniors!
Beep beep,
What do you mean by respect?
And no, I didn't hit 100,000. It landed on 96,500. I'll be lucky to hit half of that this month. Without football, the numbers will drop way off.

id like to thank the 8-10 people who had something to say about glendora's jv team...theres 30 seconds of my life ill never get back...if you get more than 2 kids contributing from jv next year id go buy a lotto ticket...how good could you really be if you couldnt make varsity as a sophmore?!?!?
Plaid Man and everybody,
Not one league has emailed the big daddy (me) an all-league list yet. When I get them, we will run them.
Aram,
You mentioned all-league in Glendora's comments...is that posted somewhere for the Sierra League or was it printed in the Trib? You are right that the "D" will be back tough and experienced. Niles & Horn return at LB and Young saw a lot of action late in the season there. Beckwith started all year at FS, Young/Nichols/Edwards all saw significant action at corner and Kovar returns on D-line. 2 or 3 others started or played a lot in a couple of games for injured guys. The offense has some good experience back and needs to fill a couple of key spots, but there's a lot of options from the younger kids and guys that could pull some double duty. Could be their best team in a while, if it all comes together well. Work hard in the off-season guys!
Also, for those wondering about the strange Glendora nickname (what's a Tartan?), did you see who beat Maranatha in the D.11? CIF Final? San Juan Capo's St. Margaret TARTANS. That's right...the Tartans won CIF!!! Next year for us? You never know.
dont rule covina out yet. 2 years ago we werent expected to do nething and then we went on to the semis, so we'll be ready for our oppenents jsut how we have been the last 2 years

Dear Aram:
There is allot of excitement and BUZZ at San Dimas!
50+ returning sophomores and juniors with the OL averaging 6'2/225. Plus, rumor has it another 6’1/215 beast is coming in to play OL and DL!
Add another year of weight training and maturity to go along with it. Wow, now put Barbone behind these guys!
I think this team will be bigger, faster, stronger, tougher and smarter over the next two years!
So this is what i know from AMAT...
They are going to have a decent OL this year lead by Tackles Austin and Ochoa. RBs include McBride and Wagner, and both these guys can play defense as well. The defense will be lead by LBs Prieto (injured most of 06 season), Seals, and Wagner. Secondary also includes All everything Dorian Wells and Bonilla (from what i heard, he's still there). The QB question will play out as the off season progresses, but i do remember there being a very decent QB on the JV team last year, Leinhart. This kid is tall, has great vision, and very quick on making desicions. The JV squad also included alot of talent including the younger brother of the '05 team kicker, Justin Gener and a quick DB/WR named Ibrahim. These kids may be small, but they are quick, hit extremely hard, and know how to play. There are also alot of young lineman coming up with some strength that would rival this past years team.
All in all, this next season should be great. Hopefully Verti can see how much talent he has and use it to the programs advantage...
why is there so much talk bout football its over time for basketball season guys!!!
lobo pride!
ITS TIME FOR SOUTH HILLS TO RETURN FROM THEIR REBUILDING YEAR...TROUBLE FOR ANYONE WHO GETS IN THEIR WAY!!!
CHAD YOUNG???
He played about four JV games for GHS and most were early in the season before Niles got hurt....
The only player that played a lot of minutes on varsiy/jv was probably I dunno...Chad was the only one who got good minutes on varsity to play for JV besides the kicked Vincent Lehigh...?
today at school we were not upset about losing the cif championship but excited for next year and pumped. I think Crespo, Snowden, Allen, Harrel and heck the rest of the charter oak team will have something to prove and will make a run to the finals.
Crespo was bothered with a ankle injury in the middle of the year and when he is full strength next year as a senior it's going to be scary.
the team will be ready next year trust me will you?
Los altos needs a QB but they have a bunch of big Time play makers coming back next year including some linebackers and runningback and Seanez Longoria and Ray Rodriguez who not only makes an impact on offense but also on DEFENSE
i will be expecting a huge year from him, as long as he works his ass off!!
GOOD LUCK L.A.

I don't see there being a huge gap between CO or SH. I just think that as a whole, CO has more questions to answer with MJ, AJ and some big time linemen graduating. I think the overall nucleus coming back at CO is outstanding. I just favor SH as of early December, hahahaha. Ah, it's so dang early. I think the transfers will really have a big role in just how great these teams will be next year.
rumors around charter oak high school today their can be a 6"3 wide receiver transfer coming in from cathedral high school phantoms
i dont have an argument with bishop amat being first their stacked and i know this from being all their personal friends. but how can you put south hills in front of a reloaded charter oak defense which shut them out. they are returning 10 starters on defense enough said.
did you forget about the sophmore who started at wideout for damien this year? taylor herrara?
Its funny how Covina loses McDonough and they fall off of the radar. After two fantastic seasons, it looks like 2007 is the year the Colts fall back to earth. Hope they enjoyed the ride.
THERE ARE NO VARISTY STARTERS ON GLENDORA'S JV TEAM. THE MAJORITY OF KIDS ON THE JV TEAM NEVER PLAYED ONE GAME OF VARISTY.
Hey aram when do they announce the all league players??
watch out for phillip sainz freshman this year from damien if hes on varsity in 07 they will have the big play ability with a runningback that they lacked in 2006
Aram
Northview started 5 underclassmen on defense and 7 on offense. They deserve a little respect.
Watch out for Los Altos next year they are hungry for a CIF run because they feel they are passed due for one. Barring any transfers (most likely at QB) every starter next year will be a Senior. Both the Offensive & Defensive Lines will be strong and experienced. Anything less of a CIF championship for this proud class will be considered a disappointment. Regardless its gonna be a dogfight next year for the Southwest division.
do u know when all CIF and all league rosters come out?
Glendora's JV teams are always good but they get to the Varsity and poof.....get the picture. The kids that were seniors this year did the same thing as JV ballers they killed everybody and look what happened to them. Aram the athletes are there they are just not developed wisely.
PLEASE PLEASE lets not talk about AMAT allready on how good there going to be and the pride they have and the schedual they play and the coaches they have and how there better than every SGV team and that they are the best PLEASE not again.... oh and how they are LOADED with talent...
ARAM,
I believe the top valley teams will have great seasons next year. This time next year I believe there could be 1 maybe 2 championships in the valley to celebrate.
Those are pretty good groups for SH, LA, & CO and the free agent signing period hasn't even started! Also heard LA had the top recruiting class of the year too!
while they were juniors
NO, the reason Glendora's JV was 10-0 was because they beat the living crap out of everyone they played...
the reason ghs jv was 10-0
was they were all jrs or sophs that play on var
the reason ghs jv was 10-0
was they were all jrs or sophs that play on var
Wasn't somebody on here saying that Bonilla left the school?
What you heard about Damien's lower level football program was incorrect.
There is talent, but the JV team has suffered from 2 consecutive years of inept coaching. They went 4-1 in league but the other Sierra League teams took most of their talented sophs up to varsity. Damien only took a few on a part-time basis. The D was decent, the offense was terrible. The talent is there but the coaching lacked dramatically.
Let's hope that Coach Morrison can bring them up to speed. He and his varsity staff are very good.
Amat will be senior loaded next year and it was not unheard of to play Sophmores as Kevin Bonilla started his Sophmore year. Aram you did not mention Bonilla as one of our returning studs for next year?...Moving to QB yes there is a question as to who will lead us?..Tamayo too short for the Pac5 division. Tillis absolutely not. Sorry man ( no stones).........there was a freshman QB this year that has the size and the arm but will Verti Trust a Sophmore?....any real legit QB out there that wants to transfer in?...I just noticed that Cameron Kushnier the 3 year starting QB from Bosco Tech is playing Basketball for Los Altos right now, so it seems like he has tranferred into Los Altos to play basketball as a senior... This kid could have helped Amat this past year...transferred schools too late........My concern with not getting a true legit QB is even with all the senior talent we are going to have Crespi and Notre Dame will still be loaded as well...
the tartans JV team went 10-0 this year and that should help out the varsity
Aram
San Dimas won league at the Freshman and JV level this year.
Also, I think they graduate 12 seniors with five of them as staters.
They will be good!
