Hey 6-5 with a share of the MVL title after losing 10 starters on defense and having to replace the leading passer and rusher on offense. Also with the top athlete ineligible for much of the season.

Bottom line is this: White was fired and that's all to it. Whatever the reason behind it, the result is still the same: White will not be at Rosemead next year. I know both White and Koffler. As someone mentioned earlier, they probably didnt get along due to opposite personalities. One person likes to be a straight shooter and tell the truth to parents and kids. The other one is a b.s. artist who lies to parents and kids. I'm not going to say which is which, but it doesnt take an educated person to figure it out.

White will land some place else and Koffler will survive at Rosemead. What's sad is through all this adult bickering we have forgot who is really getting hurt in all of this: THE KIDS!

Koffler confirmed he was fired, but asked that easier words be used in the story.

You often have this happen in sports, but the bottom line is the bottom line.

When an NBA, MLB or NFL team fires a coach, you don't hear the owner of the team at the press conference say "fired" you hear things like "moving in another direction."

When Diamond Bar fired Nick Cuccia, it sent out a press release saying he "wouldn't return as coach" also known as fired. Cuccia wanted the specific phrasing of "fired" used because he didn't want the kids thinking he bailed on them and it was EXACTLY what happened.

When San Dimas fired Roland De Anda a few years ago, they said his contract would not be renewed ... (fired).

All these things basically come down to the same thing - fired. Again, the bottom line is the bottom line.

Anthony White was told he would not be the DC any longer but could take another position. He refused that and was fired.

How was Rosemead doing right before Koffler got there? How'd they do in the two years after left? Nobody has been more skeptical of Koffler and Rosemead than I, but you the bottom line is the bottom line. He wins and he's the perfect fit for that job. I truly believe that going to a school like Koffler did Rosemead and havning that type of knowledge about what type of kid goes there is truly beneficial to a coach. Look at Quinsey at Northview ... Koffler at Rosemead ... and so on.

Oh my goodness! Aram, you need to stop smoking that stuff. Koffler wins at every stop he has went to. I was at LP with Koffler(I'm also still there) and he left there because they didnt have any talent. Let me give you a quote, "These kids have no chance of winning here and the school is a joke. They give no support!" Does this sound like someone who has won everywhere he has went? If Rosemead hadn't taken him back, he would still be at LP losing! I also agree with the hypocrite regarding Koffler's outlandish statements about staff loyalty. He will stay at a school until, he finds a better spot to go to. Trust me, he will be gone from Rosemead in a few years. Why should his assistants have loyalty when he displays none himself. As for the teaching comment, Koffler teaches special education. You dont need to be that bright to do that. All he does is show videos!

Talking to Mcbrides Grandmother this past season, and by the way she is a great lady and a big supporter of BA football she was as loyal as can be and said she was excited about Bryce's opportunity his senior year. I will give you that if it did come down to personal choices but it seemed to me that Granma was not too impressed with Verti last year so some of the transfer has to do with Verti I am positive about that. As for Tillis wanting is one thing performing is another thing. QB way out of his league. maybe at LP or Walnut but Amat? come on, no way. Wags tho is still a mystery. I'd like to see him play at SH or CO. then he and Mcbride can match up against one another. If he went the LA route and LA did get those SEM players it is going to be intresting to see how LA does with that type a team....they will be the locals but when it comes to the OC they are having problems lately.

You are right Aram 3 in 10 yrs with the best players in the league and some of the best assistants in area that keep leaving. 1 last year with a week schedlue and loaded with sr's and 5 yrs before that when they did something, and this last year whern they actually looked coached, Aram do sum research find former players and ask if it was players or coaches? McBride left the school (Amat) for other personal reasons that involves personal family issues beyond his control. It didn't have anything to do with his desire to play past the season. His grandmother has been a good supporter of the school for years. Not sure about Wags issues. Tillis wanted to be a QB only and Amat apparently didn't have any place for him. Your right on about D-1's prospects Wells and Austin. Bonilla is back along with future D-1 Price. Amat will be find. Hopefully Amat will find replacements for QB & RB????????

Koffler has won three MVL titles this decade. Rosemead has always been one of the area's traditional winners. That looked to be changing at times in recent years, but when Koffler has been coach all the school does is win. It's not Amat. It's not LA or CO or SH. You're not going to have the personnel to be throwing the ball all over. Rosemead gets a certain breed of kid and Koffler knows that. He does what he should with them. To me, the names change but the players are the same year in and year out - just tough, gritty kids. I'm tired of people giving Koffler crap about his basic offense. He doesn't have the players either at QB or WR to spread people out. He puts the best athlete on the team (generally speaking) at RB and pounds the ball. It wins games. If anything, he should probably just run a Wing-T every year. Be happy that's not the case.

I don't always agree with Koffler or Rosemead's actions, but there is no denying the guy wins games. And although this was an unpopular move to a lot of people, he remains one of the top player's coaches in the area.

Speaking of Rosemead. anyone know if Anthony Gonzalez got any offers to play college ball.......??...and if so Where?.....

Yes the geographics mean nothing but it still is cheating if Wagner is at Los Altos....does not matter tho LA will get punked by the OC again no matter if they have McBride and Wagner.....Tillis they can have he was never a factor to begin with...McBride is a big loss for BA but I dont blame him, he and his parents want a gurantee that he plays past the regular season. There is no gurantee with Amat making the post season based on the competition they have in their league. Los Altos is a shoe in for post season playing in that lower level competition...As far as college recruitment of Wagner and McBride it may come playing for Los Altos but they are no way D1 college players. They are both around 5'7"..........good luck to them both they are good solid individuals. Winning and show casing comes first with their parents. they could always transfer back and graduate from Amat....sounds like the loaner program to me.......saving a little money too....the real D1 prospect are still there Austin and Wells.

Although i cant comment on the crdentials of anthony white and his coaching abilities, but hearing Koffler quoted in the paper that he basically does not want anyone using Rosemead as a stepping stone to other offers and wants coaches on his staff that are in it for the log run is ridiculous. Isnt that exactly what he did a few years ago when he took the artesia job and left rosemead the 1st time, got fired there before he even coached one game and then went to LP, got his name back in the coaching ranks, to have rosemead forgive him and re-hire him. He should have took some of his own advice. The guy is a joke!

I believe that CONTROL is what coach white was looking for. But there's one thing he must remember, when your part of a coaching staff, everyone must work together to make a program successfull. They should all be there for the same reason to accomplish the same thing.

It was sad to see that Coach White only gave certain kids the opportunity to learn. All the kids are there for the same reason, they want to play some football.

RHS doesn't revolve around Coach White as many people think. The decision has been made good or bad Koffler has a program he has to run. So stop the critizing and let him do his job.

aram, white who? urias who? if they are great coaches why dont they have head jobs some where, and i still cant believe that we are talking about this, you should spend time researching for important and positive things in high school sports, i thought it was about the kids, so write about them not a story that no cares about, if they were really that great of coaches then the kids and the parents would have went to the district and fought to keep them on staff, funny no one thought of this before they will be a distant memory in a week or two. Sad to see sports writing like this so many positive things kids are doing in the valley and no one writes about them or there accomplishments, just a few nobodies being fired. After reading the article this morning about Koffler/White, here is burning questionsthat everyone should be wondering about:

Why do his assistants keep leaving like flies?

I know the goal for all assistant coaches is to run their are own program. However, looking at some of the coaches who have left in the last 2 years makes you wonder why there leaving. For example, take Hernandez who is now at LP. Why would he take a job at LP, when Koffler fled the place like it was the plague? You can say LP has that new field and you can say it was a head coaching job, but in reality LP sucks! Why do you think Koffler left! I think it's time to find out what is really going on at Rosemead!

Hey Aram, I don't know what John and Elias are talking about. This is a real down time for us high school football fans, I like reading and discussing the news from football teams from the valley. I need my fix and even though these two don't agree, this is newsworthy. On a side note, I read on this blog before that you either knew or know Zavala, one of Kofflers former assistants. Do you think he would go back as Kofflers DC? Why was he not offered the job in the first place? Keep up the excellent coverage, Aram!

I just know that he has a relative on the team, who I thought was his nephew and this player's mother was up in the stands ripping Koffler and everyone on the staff but White. SGVCoach, wow that peaked my interest! Why would Fr. Travers do that? I find it hard to believe considering the outstanding programs in soccer, swimming, water polo, and baseball. Is it just basketball and football with the problems? Even though this year both Varsity programs show improvement or benefitted from a down cycle, lol.

Who were the coaches that got nixed...I heard someone nixed Justin Magallanes former ALL CIF, Shriner All Star, 3 year Varsity starter and current Azusa Pacific two year starting center. Surely he could have helped at any level with a line that only had one ALL League or All CIF performer given the explosive nature of Damien's offense.

Explain why this is possible considering the Freshmen Team went 5-12-1 this year with Hernandez, Pucci, Brewster at the helm. None were qualified and they should be replaced immediately. I mean 5-12-1 at Damien? With THAT talent pool? Look it up. Coach Hernandez is in over his head. The record speaks for itself. Nice try...go back to charting plays for the Varsity.

Damien has bigger problems. They have had numerous opportunities to hire very qualified (more than the A. White) alumni and other to coach and Travers has nixed it. Ask Travers why he won't allow Morrison to hire some of the people he wanted to hire at DHS.

BTW - I have heard on more than one occasion of A. White spouting off about how people run their programs and how he is a better coach including Rosemead. Sometimes enthusiasm and work ethic can be for ulterior motives.

Good news, you don't have to read it. You don't even have to be here. And by the way, Anthony White isn't JUST an assistant coach. He's a former standout LOCAL player and one of the most high-profile assistants in the area. But let me please urge you to take off.

Seems there is a problem going on with high school football. Alot of coaches are coming to terms with "skill set" coaching and facilities/trainers that specialize. And for some it's a little threatening.

Some are going to Rob Johnson's Quarterback Camp while other are going to Speed, Agility and Quickness camps. In some cases I see head coaches fearing losing "control" rather than incorporating this new dynamic. The successful programs encourage their players while other's just feel threatened.

First Urias and now White. Both products of good Div I programs (Temple and Utah) and from what I know and hear just are great players coaches. They care about the sport, have real life experiences and contacts and help players maximize their potential. What gives? Both were ultimatey viewed as "overqualified" to coach at the high school level...what does that mean?

Hell bring them both to Damien and see Damien win Championships and watch the Div I signees mount up. To be the best you have to hire the best coaches at every level. Welcome to Damien, gentlemen!

I went to a 4th of July stand and Coach White was there working by himself for 3 days, My youngest son went to his youth Football Camp and LOVED IT!!!

My eldest son said White was the only coach working him out after the season and during the break because none of the coaches wanted to do anything until they got their Football Checks! and you say its not a great loss?

I have nothing but good things to say about Coach White. My son never played football till he arrived at Rosemead High School, Coach White and his staff showed him what to do and he ended up learning the sport and loves it! I hope Koffler knows what he got himself into by letting White go, he really was overqualified to be at this school but were lucky to have him. My husband and I hope that this Raul person is nowhere near the football team with his negativity towards a Coach that parents really enjoyed on the sidelines he was so energetic and he truly showed the kids the love of the sport. Good Luck Coach!!

This was a train wreck from the beginning. White is an arrogant a-hole. I knew Koffler should never have hired him. Trust me this is no big loss for the Mead. They will be more than fine without him. Koff and the rest of his staff will win the MVL title again next season.

You can hope that he reads this blog and provides an email address or something. I will tell him there's someone asking for his info and he take it from there. I'm not going to give out his contact info or broker his being contacted by someone.

I interview Anthony a while ago, and was "very" impressed by his attitude towards athletics and academics in creating Student-Athlete's. He is very goal oriented and is a Pure Leader.

We were unable to hire him at that time, but if the possibility arose again, I would not make the mistake twice.

Sometimes 2 Great Coaches cant work together. But in this case they should have MADE it work. I know both of these guys and both are great, just 2 different views on coaching I guess!
