FOOTBALL RUMORS: Maybe this will help clear up some questions
There are so many questions out there that I just figured I'd start a new thread to answer them with what I know. To those who think football season is over, think again. Just being honest, but it never ends. And, it remains extremely popular. Hey, the NFL Network does it all year, why not us? Anyway ... here's the latest rumors.
But first a www.insidesocal.com/aram disclaimer: These are just rumors, so don't trip out. Fortunately, I think there's a lot of truth to some of them. But, who knows?
GANO UPDATE: I've got it from a second reliable source that Los Altos coach Greg Gano is interested in the La Verne job. Stay tuned ...
Bryce McBride to LA: I've heard this is a done deal from several reliable sources. So, I callled Coach Gano on Monday to ask him if it's true and he said "I won't comment on anybody unless they actually check-in." Amat's 2nd semester started Tuesday. Los Altos' starts next Tuesday. Gano said I'd be the first person he calls if "someone new comes in." What a huge impact McBride would make at LA. Wow! I've heard nothing about Marcus Wagner, however. But I have heard two other lower level Amat players would be going to LA, also. I will check the wanted ads in the Trib classifieds to see if there's anything like "Wanted: QB, RB and WR to play for annual CIF title contender." The Conqs have to replace all three positions this year.
Mark Verti: I called Coach Verti on Monday and he said he expected a couple of players to leave. I will call him today to find out who checked out because it all should've gone down on Tuesday. I doubt he can say much more other than who checked out.
Cogburn AND Garay to LA: It could be an incredible off-season for the Yankees, er Los Altos, if this happens. I've heard about Cogburn possibly being a Conqueror, but not Garay. Makes sense, though. LA needs a QB. Might as well get one of the Valley's passing leaders to go with the Valley's leading receiver. But, but, but I've also heard that Cogburn did some info-seeking at St. Paul during Christmas break. LA getting both of these players seems a littler far fetched. In fact, I doubt they get either.
South Hills: I've heard from one reliable source that South Hills would be getting a player or two from Amat. I don't put too much stock into this.
Diamond Bar: So much for the Brahmas having a replacement named by the first of the year. They are in their first phase of interviews this week. AD J.T. Cameron didn't give me much more info than that. I asked him who applied, but naturally, he wouldn't say. But the vibe I got is that former Walnut coach Jerry Person isn't interested. So much for that.
Robert Oviedo: Supposedly, Coach Oviedo has a meeting on Thursday with Wilson's upper-brass. They could be talking scholastics or they could be talking about the direction of the football program. I don't know why, but I keep hearing he's in jeopardy of being ousted. Like Wilson could do any better. I hope this isn't true.
Gano to La Verne: This is a new one that's started to pop up. One person told me he's inquired about the job. Wouldn't it be interesting if Gano left LA for LV right after all these impact transfers landed on his doorstep? I don't know if I buy this one. But this source has been pretty good in the past and supposedly there's interest.
Not a rumor, just an Aram thought: I really wonder why/how LA has become the shoulder to cry on for disgruntled players. I don't begrudge any player/parent who leaves one school for another with the ambition of either winning a championship or improving the chances for a scholly. And I don't begrudge LA for being that school. I get it, players want to play for Uncle Greg. But, I do wonder how that came to fruition. Is it coaches? Is it the Cody/Harwell effect? Obviously, given James Davis' situation, LA isn't immune to losing players, too. But LA always seems to gain more than it loses. You lose James Davis, you get Ira Thomas from Chino Hills to fill in. Must be nice ...

FYI:
Gano told the football team today that he is staying at LA.
Can't keep me down,
I would have no idea how to do that. I noticed several times today that I couldn't even get on the site. I don't have the power/know how to restrict anybody, and nor would I unless it was the most extreme of circumstances.
Credo,
Quick question? How long have you been back in D1 or Pac- 5??? oh yeah when you were in haitus in D5 or D6 the orange county leagues playing oceanview and westminster... Amat was representing the Catholic League... two years ago Amat beat Servite by 35 or more... you have a couple good years since the mid 80s and now you are talking... On an honest note how is Shoemate??? He is a great player!!! How is the knee??? How many guys are coming back??? How does the rest of the Trinity looking to shape up??? Serra League looks tough again over here, but you should know how tough it is in the Pac- 5!!! Real Men Wear the Blue & Gold!!! Everyday is a great day to be a Lancer!!! 17 returning starters, WOW!!!!
I am the ORIGINAL Bleed Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
CREDO, let's see how well you fare next season without your one man show. by the end of next season you will be known as the Servite FRYERS!
We may be down but we are not out. He who laughs last, laughs best and I BELIEVE as do others that you are STILL a complete ass.
BTW, who desgined your home uniforms? Morticia Addams?
I chose this forum as my battle ground. I choose to kick you when your down. Because it feels GREAT!!!! Your program is breaking down. Your admin is destroying you minute by minute. I'm sure CARROLL scoffs at your petty and trivial whining. I will be here on this blog till your ship is finally under, until your Div 1 status is revoked. Which should be next year at this rate. YOU BOTTOM FEEDER!
ARAM,
Are you now starting to exclude bloggers by restricting access to this sight by keeping certain URL's off?
All I know is I received a message on my other computer when trying to access this blog saying my URL is being restricted access to the blog by the host.
TELL ME I'M MISTAKEN. I KNOW YOU WOULD NOT RESTRICT ACCESS INTENTIALLY...RIGHT?
I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
CREDO, I BELIEVE that you are complete ass. Why don't you stay off of OUR blogs. Maybe you can hang with your buddies at the South Coast Plaza or whereever it is that you fools think you look cool at.
make that the denny's on hacienda and valley...my mistake. Dont get lost "Shut Up"
Jhkron,
Thanks for the information on LA's schedule.
Shut Up,
Thanks for the commentary, i think i might have needed that, but ill make you a deal, you post your name, and i will surely post mine, then we will both be in the light. I have nothing to hide at all. In fact, you can find me most morning sitting at the denny's on Gale and hacienda eating breakfast with a laptop at my side. Now if that isnt easy to find, i dont know what is.
but wait, tell me one thing, why is it that you obviously use multiple screen names to list your comments? Just use one, like i do. But then again you probably have something to hide huh ;)
Balls in your court kid, but im sure you'll pass ...ROLE PLAYER!!!
"credo"
Your "god" is dead, and you misguided, greedy, small thinking Catholics killed him.
Anti17
thank you so much for your insight and perspective. You really seem to be an expert in the field of football as well as one of the insiders we look forwarding to hearing from. If only we knew your name, we could then recommend you be the next head football coach at Los Altos if Gano leaves. Better yet how about being Northview's fluffer next season? We are sick and tired of you THINKING you know what you are talking about. You DO NOT know what the hell you're talking about so quit bending over and flapping you butt cheeks instead put them to better use; Northview's calling...
amats freshman and jv teams killed. they were 6-3-1 and 7-3. the freshman team lokks stacked wid talent. the qb has the size and strengh to be on var next year
Campanario:
No, it wasn't addressed at you... there are others here who seem to be mistaking their bitter opinions for "facts" about supposed rules violations.
Your own understanding of the CIF rules is correct, though I'd add the additional point that coaches aren't allowed to initiate contact with athletes or the families of athletes from other schools as well. Also, attendence boundries are irrelevent if the kid starts at a school as a freshman; so if a school and district have no problem taking someone from outside of the boundries (due to an open enrollment policy, such as HLPUSD has) to begin with, where they live is not an issue (unless they want to change schools later).
In the specific instance of Los Altos, "bona fide moves" have indeed been pretty common. Usually this is due to a: the family living in a month-to-month leased appartment, so moving to another appartment is only a moderate inconvenience, or b: the family owns more than one property and vacates and rents out their regular home to live at the second location (see the Sandello controversy).
Personally, I wouldn't go to that much trouble and upheaval to get -my- kid on a different football team, but I've known enough parents to understand that such behavior is not unusual.
Harship wavers are not automatic, but generally get through (possibly a week or two into the season) if they are in any way reasonable, since CIF does not want to be on the receiving end of an ugly lawsuit.
And it's kind of sad to see the fans of the two most storied teams in the SGV backbiting each others accomplishments anyway. One would think both sides would have earned a mutual respect for each other by now.
You all sound like a bunch of complete fools and/or idiots. None of this stupidity is tolerated on OUR blogs. Bow down to the OC! Bow down to the Trinity!!!! Bow down to Gallipo!!!!!!! Bow down to the CREDO!!!!!!!!! Bow down to SERVITE (and LA--to EL DO)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GANO'S GANG
You sure missed your calling . you should do stand up. Now why in the hell would AMAT be jealous of some wannabe d-6 or 7 school that doesn't have b-lls to schedule us even when our program is on the downhill slide as has been said in these blogs. As for LA replacing us in the PAC 5 you can forget that ever happening. LA won't play us and you think they can hang in the PAC 5 . Just stay in your little comfort zone and don't worry about us . we will be fine.
Anyone know Bishop Amats schedule besides their league games against ND,Crespi and Loyola?
Gosh Jhykron,
...don't know if you were talking to me, but CIF transfer eligibility rules apply to all member schools, and are quite clear:
If ANY student-athlete changes schools with no change of address, there is paperwork to be filed if said student played in ANY interscholastic contests at the previous school. And if this paperwork does not include a hardship waiver approved by the commissioner, the student will be restricted from varsity competition for one year.
If a student moves from one attendance area to another with his/her legal guardian(s, he/she may participate immediately, with no restriction.
I was just raising an eyebrow at the mention of so many transfers, because bonafide moves don't seem real common, and hardships are far from automatic.
Anyway, if you weren't talking to me, sorry...
Anti:
"do you happen to know the schedule for LA next year along with their respective open dates?"
As far as I know:
Rosemead (2nd year of contract)
Open (Contract with LB Wilson expired)
@ Damien (2nd year of renewed contract)
@ St Francis (2nd year of contract)
@ Western (For some reason they like scheduling LA just before league)
South Hills
@ Diamond Ranch
@ Charter Oak
Wilson
Bonita
"...you really see it as a possibility of Gano leaving LA for the U of LV?
...
What do you think?"
It's pretty much confirmed that Gano is in discussion with them. This shouldn't be too much of a surprise... as good as the LA job is for attracting athletes and running a credible football program, the HLPUSD remains one of the worst districts in the state for pay scale, and their facilities support is just disgraceful (ever take a good look at the LA/Wilson/Workman fields... or pools?).
I would expect that if Gano made the move, Fair would go with him. And Fair's first choice for a DL coach would be Howing. I'm less certain where the other position coaches would end up.
Jhykron,
do you happen to know the schedule for LA next year along with their respective open dates?
and its obvious your always in the know with regard to the happenings at LA, so with that said, do you really see it as a possibility of Gano leaving LA for the U of LV?
I can slightly see it happening, but only if Fair (The D coordinator) goes with him.
What do you think?
Some of the people on this blog really need to educate themselves about the CIF transfer rules AND the difference between open and closed-enrollment school districts before making bold statements about what is and isn't legal.
I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here, but LA most emphatically does NOT have an open week 1 at this time. Week 2, maybe, but not week 1.
Clash of the Titans- Los Altos vs. Bishop Amat.
This needs to happen. Three year agreement. Year one @Mt.Sac or Citrus. Year two and three at the respective schools. I say make it an annual tradition.
Would the SGV News Group or Tribune sponsor this game?
This game would be huge for this Valley. I would cerntainly guarantee a packed house at Hilmer Lodge(Mt.Sac)
FYI~
try going to the LA campus, most of the Asains are at Wilson. As racist as that sounds, it does however withhold some truth. Look at what happened to Temple City, and Diamond Bar.
you guys are so funny..yeah BA is not the BA of the early 90's. but the fact of the matter is only one public school in the area has attempted to play them in the last 10 years and that was CO who by the way got socked in the mouth two years in a row by a vary bad BA team...so yeah BA might be down and not the same....none-the-less there is still no valley team that beats them...go ahead and mouth off, tell me how your team would beat them...after you run your mouth, go ask your head coach to be honest why he does not put BA on the schedule. All this is written by a person who could care less about BA..but i am a realist...
Ok, Ok...yes LA has some recruits and does so every year, but to say that they are the only team in the miramonte leage that pulls kids from outside their area is ridiculous. Everyone knows that Charter oak does the exact same thing, they funnel kids right up that 10 freeway. And ur going to tell me that diamond ranch does not have kids in their program that should be attending Garey, Pomona or even Diamond bar...c'mon, be real.
Secondly, great to hear the potential of the young QB over at Northview. And i know it cant be a coincidence that he is being tutored under Ex LA offensive assistant/ QB coach Mike Urreta, who is now over at Northview. He did great things with the QB's over at LA during his time there, both physically and mentally. Kids really admired him and loved to play for him. With that rough 4 game stretch that castaneda had this year, i know he could have helped this year.
Hey Amat
Your only as good as your last winning season!
Say when???
Whats all this crap about a little 5'7" worm!
Can't wait to hit him back to AMAT!
AMAT JUST CONTINUES TO MAKE EXCUSES! ITS THE COACH, ITS THE ADMINISTRATION, ITS MY ...
EXCUSES ARE FOR LITTLE SPOILED BITCHES!
YOU GUYS THINK YOUR THE BIG AND BAD D1 SCHOOL, BUT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY? NOTHING, AND I'M NOT CONVINCED MOVING INTO D2 YOU WOULD GET IT DONE EITHER! YOUR TALK IS SO CHEAP!
PERFORM IN YOUR DIVISION OR SHUT THE ---K UP
John, know your facts...Longoria is a West Covina Resident...he has no business playing in the HLPSD. This is fact I live around the corner from him...know his Dad Henry and his Brother Dimitry and his Mom Chella.......Nick is a great kid and his family are good people. He must have had someone there from HH give their address for him. He grew up playing Pony Baseball over at Walmerado in West Covina...Now if Nick were playing at WC or even SH exception they are in West Covina but his district school is Nogales....Now Walnut on the other hand offers a Lottery system to WC residents that are on the border. It is illegal as it comes having big nick play there but hey someone bent the rules for him...and thats ok it happens all the time and Nick is stand up guy and good student. But rules are rules and this is where LA goes overboard in recruitment....with all this going back and fourth on the Blog it would not suprise me if CIF was notified of LA recruitment of out of district players..McBride at least moved into the district to play for LA......Cheaters never win!....playoffs for LA but a early exit due to the OC having your number.....
Ok, here is the scoop on Wagner. He was at the Nike Combine on Saturday sporting BA football gear and according to the personel that worked the combine, his card said that he was attending Amat and when asked whether he was going to leave BA for LA his answer was "No."
So there you have it...McBride to LA...Wagner stays at BA.
For the idiot who commented on Longoria. Know your facts. He lives in the school district and weather he lives in the LA quadrant means nothing because HLPUSD has a choice school option and as long as there is room available a student can attend the school of choice. This may be changing but he was attending school in the LA quadrant when it started. This is a quality football player and a great kid.
As for this LA over AMAT stuff, pressure your Athletic Directors to make this happen. It would be great for the valley to see this.
I do know that last year LA went down hill after playing some tough opponents in a row. They can compete but they physically get beat up. My observation was that they need to add players to the squad so your studs do not have to play every down. It took a couple weeks to get healthy but they did at the right time.
Amat can still beat any team in the valley even in a down year and with a coach that had his share of problems.
Amat still playes the top teams in the state and they duck no one. It may have been a down year and we still beat some very good teams. Loyola, Rancho Cucamonga( who beat South Hills and West Covina), St Paul, Chaminade(who lost in semi's to Domingues, CIF Champions) and St. Francis(who beat LA).
And to say Amat is down in their sports is crazy.
2005 Girls Basketball CIF/State Champions
2006 Girls Basketball CIF/State Champions
2000 and 2001 Baseball national champions
I hear that this years baseball team has the makings of something great.
Football will make it's way back as well and life at Amat will go on. The one change that needs to be made is we need to keep our coaches.
Lets look at success.
Markham wins and moves on
Parades wins and moves on
Salter wins and moves on
Amat needs to sweeten the payroll that they give these coaches. I would hate to loose Wiard and see that beautiful gym sit there empty again. This gym is a showcase in the SGV and it is a calling card to future athletes, use it.
The one person standing in the way of Amat becoming great is Msgr. Carroll. A change needs to be made to change the culture at Amat and it starts with replacing Msgr. Carroll!!!!!!!!!!!
LA at AMAT or AMAT at LA, make it a three year contract and flip a coin to see who has the first home game. It will be great for the valley and Aram, use your powers to help this matchup happen.
OH yeah, McBride looked good in LA gear at the basketball game.
Go LA,
Go Amat,
Let the kids play and quite the racism, that has got to go. Big Bubba seems to have some built up hatred towards the LA student body but it is quite the same as Amats student body make up.
MAKE THIS GAME HAPPEN
MSGR CARROLL MUST GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How pathetic has Bishop Amat become? Listen to the bloggers classless remarks and racial innuendos. There was a time when Bishop Amat had pride, tradition and class. Those days are gone. From the first days of this blog Bishop Amat bloggers have expressed themselves poorly. They brag, they put down , they ridicle and harass their Principal, their head Coach and his staff...and when players decide they've had enough the Amat bloggers minimize the players role/contribution to the Bishop Amat team. Now that's classless!
I understand the "king's" desire to hold on to the "crown" but Bishop Amat is a shell of it's former self. And instead of complaining and bragging about the present and past how about keeping your mouths shut and take in some humble pie...NO ONE HATES BISHOP AMAT...THEY PITY THE PROUD ALUMNI THAT BUILT A PROGRAM ONLY TO SEE IT TORN DOWN BY COMPLAINERS AND WANTABEES!
Blu, MT%&^%^&^BAG, Joe Amat and others..if you're not part of the solution...you're part of the problem.
Best way to rebuild what Bishop Amat has lost is to close the practices from the parents and make Chalk Talk mandatory for players and parents. The eyes "see" what they want to see but "FILM DON'T LIE" Bishop Amat players quit in every game I saw...the only question was when and for how long. Verti close practices!
Anyone know how many transfers have left Bishop Amat in the last 3 years? Maybe someone can make a list...I'd love to know.
No, he's back...trust me, inside source...
it's not certain if wagners still there he might have been there as his last day to say bye and clean up his lockers. we'll find out tomorrow whos gone and whos coming in i doubt anyones coming in though, but word has it henson's gone too
This is absolutely hilarious. a bunch of people whining about ONE tranfer. i admit i was talking earlier, but this has just gone to hell in a handbasket. Yes i wish AMAT and LosAl schedule each other next year, but if they don't good luck to both teams.
To all AMAT supporters,
Always fight on for the Blue and Gold...NEVER FAULTER!!
To all AMAT haters,
Hate us all you want, as we've been saying since last summer, it doesn't matter if we were ranking number 100 in Division 1, we could still beat any school in the valley on any given friday...
so thats it, no more talking about McBride, he's gone. and YES, Wagner is still at AMAT, i saw him there when i dropped off my little sister...
Our Lady, Queen of Victory, PRAY FOR US!!
well yea all the asians go to wilson... if u ever go to los altos u would notice the whole school is pretty much mexican
I have been gone the entire day and this is the world I am about revisit? My fellow Conquerors do you realize Bishop Amat is our Valley's parochial school and is attempting to defend themselves against us. Let's stop and think about this because when their headline reads transfers because they haven't done anything on or off the field in years and we are to blame better yet they feel they have something they would prove by beating us. Yes, I hope you will agree with me this is a compliment and exactly why they continue to fail. Bishop Amat is pathetic and has lost their mystique forever. You cannot even contend with other parochial schools let alone the top public schools in Pac 5. Are you conceding that you probably need to reconsider and compete in our division? Is beating us really what is going to revitalize your program? Thank you for the free publicity and continue to audition your athletes for us. How about better yet we just switch leagues and we represent the Valley as the Pac 5 school and you spend your future trying to rebuild a program that YOU demolished. Seriously, let's be honest probably if we played each other and we beat you unfortunately no one would be as surprised as you think. Wow, that's SAD but the truth!
LA, ,play ball with your Asain squad and stop cheating and recruiting....what is longorias address?...all your recruits live on Los Robles thats right.....your football program would kung fu ball with a me love you long time!
Your Mama: 2009 or 2010 ? Like i said ! U don't have the balls ! More excuses ! Maybe you guys will have reached puberty by then & grown some cajones !
LA, ,,,,,play ball with your Asain squad and stop cheating and recruiting....what is longorias address?...all your recruits live on Los Robles thats right.....your football program would kung fu ball with a me love you long time!
YO MAMA,
you are already hiding your babies behind your skirt...whats wroung with this year?...bring it on now!...."MAMA DONT LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE CONQUEROS"
LA will find excuses after it gets beat...lets see we did not have this guy or we did not have that guy...if this guy was not hurt....the ref screwed us....we lost but we kept the game close in the first quarter...Longoria , McBride, and all the other recruits had to go to their area schools because we got caught by CIF but if we had them we would have beaten Amat. Lets see how much Ballz coach Gano has to get this game done...then when he goes limping into the rest of his games after his team is banged up then he will have the coin toss and get in and say they have returen to glory.....CO SH DR DAMIEN WILL PUNK LA THIS YEAR!...and you want to play BA..give me a break those little guys you have over there cannot hang with real D1 football players...bring it on!
A game between LA and BA. Won't happen until 2010.
The earliest probably 2009. With three major spots to fill and kids needing to gel. I don't see it happening till then. And when it does BA is going to get beat bad. It's coming better be ready.
LOVE,
Your MAMA
Talk is Cheap ! Listen to all the smack lil al is talking ! This is the Year, Bishop this, Bishop that ! Half ur players will be from Amat. So go ahead already & step up to the plate. Schedule Amat already & show everyone what ur made of, are u conq's or cun..s ? Call ur AD, Call ur Coach, Call ur Congressman ! Do whatever u need to do to get it done ! You don't have the balls !!! to schedule Amat ! Cowboy up or Shut the f... up !
BA Loser,
I like your spirit.
"We will have to get back to you once your transfers arrive on our campus and ask them if you are even worth playing anymore and is there anybody left with any kind of talent."
BUT let's show everyone who the supreme class of the Valley is. It's time to show the Valley. We have the records. Obviously we have the players, look at the lists who have graduated from Los Al. Week one Amat what do you say. Call your AD and make it happen. we will do our share on our part. Aram be the Media liasion and push this through. As much as I hate it, I'm tired of people around me who are associated with other schools that we could never beat Amat . This is the YEAR.
Campy,
I like where you're going with this...good idea.
I attended the Nike Combine in Long Beach and SGV was well represented. Saw kids from several schools like Diamond Ranch, Ayala, B.Amat, and Los Altos. Los Altos had some fast kids and B.Amat had several "BIG" boys who looked very mobile. If there is a game, I'll be there!!
Bishop Amat 3-0 against LA.........no wonder why you guys are ducking us and the truth.......until you can beat us..but wait you are afraid to play us.........until Gano grows some sacks and can manup we welcome smacking you guys around.
amats lower level teams kicked @ss this year. what abou them
so?
Bluorca
I believe Damien and LA played this year!
Aram -
Help me.
I see/hear all these transfers happening...
and I'm sure some bloggers are savvy enough to know the strictness of CIF's rules about transfers without a change of address (varsity restriction).
Are these all "bonified moves with legal guardian", or are Hardship waivers easier to come by than I thought?
Ever asked any coaches these questions?
AND THIS YEARS GIANT BALLZ AWARDS GO TO....
Chino Hills (mission vieblows)
West Covina (mater dum dei)
Damien (st. jon tobasco)
Ayala (rednecklands)
Diamond Ranch (edicrumb, stermite, oafs condition)
HONORABLE MENTION FOR PRIOR BUT CURRENT SEASONS GO TO...
South Hills (esperganja)
Glendora,Charter Oak ( THE bitching amouth cancers)
bluorca,
We will have to get back to you once your transfers arrive on our campus and ask them if you are even worth playing anymore and is there anybody left with any kind of talent. In the meanwhile, I recommend if you are still searching for some preseason opponents the Montview and Valle Vista leagues need some preseason games. Azusa, Gladstone, Sierra Vista, Northview, San Dimas have games available. An easier schedule makes you maybe 6-4 or 5-5 and you can then get the at-large bid in the playoffs. Better yet, how about when we win C.I.F. we also recognize you and thank you for your failures and shortcomings. We are willing to give credit where credit is due. I love being me and would hate to be you. Mediocrity is unacceptable but unfortunately is your middle name. Peace be with you!
OK "ba losers"...
All this talk about being able to kick Amat's butt, etc, etc. I gotta question for you and anyone else willing to do the research.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME LOS ALTOS ACTUALLY SCHEDULED A TOP FOOTBALL FARM IN THE PRESEASON FROM DIV 1 OR 2 OR THE PAC-5?
anyone?
anyone?
hello?
Anybody hear about the Nike Combine at Veteren's? I heard a lot of Amat players went down there. Anybody have anything on it? How true are the rumors about a AMAT Vs. Los Altos game? Real Men Wear the Blue & Gold! Everday is a great day to be a LANCER! 17 starters returning, WOW!!!!
How's 14-0 in 2000, 12-2 in 2002 and 14-0 in 2003 not glory?
I'm not a fan of either school, but I respect what both have accomplished. LA's 11 CIF titles is unmatched by anyone in the valley and only bested in CIF by Long Beach Poly. And Amat's run in 1990s is also something to hang your hat on. But Amat has had good coaching since Tom Salter left.
Personaly, I don't care if kids transfer from one school to another. It's just not important enough to get all upset over. If it happens, so be it. This is just high school fooball.
There are greater tragedies in the world - like the war.
imagine if there was a traditional top private vs. public preseason showdown every year facing the two top teams from their respective schools. probably we would play more games then anyone. bottom line we not only smack you this year but bitch slap you enough times to lead the series right now. i would have to say in the last 10 years we would absolutely be more competitive in your league and conference than you the great lancers. you boys are weak we play like men and St. Los Altos is the strongest program in the valley end of story. thanks for supporting us though and keep buying tickets to watch us go deep into the playoffs...
Week 1 would be great. Come on over to the Keifer and play before a real crowd LA. your support of parents and fans is very LOUSY. Coming out of the gates after your loss to LA your fans are the worst bad mouthing everything from your coaching decisions to the refs to the cheerleaders..........man get a grip .........half the kids on EL Dorado were sick ith the flu and still punked you....you talk about class?...f-bombd were coming from everywhere..even in the mens room and in the snack line during halftime.........poor sports now in recruitment violation.....you guys are a mess....play the pac5 or the trinity as your 5 game non league and then tell me how good that team is...Dranch had the stones to do it..went 0-5 in non league then came out and punked you guys....stop living in your 70 and 80's glory days....the time has come to step up and play with the big boys...we welcome the game with our lancers.....I can see the fights in the parking lot after you low lifes lose.
bluorca
Of course he's talking about EACH of the previous three years being 85 players, you dimwitted turd.
Go back to your Burgie beer, and have a nice night.
3 years and only 85 freshmen? HAHA!
You obviously either made a gross error or you have absolutely no idea what in the world goes on in Lancer Land. Take your number and multiply it by 3 and you will have the number of Amat freshman that join its ranks over the same time. Heck, 85 freshman is a typical for ONE year at Amat. Amat Varsity usually fields around 70-90 players in a typical year.
Now stop being so silly and remember that Amat is THE San Gabriel Valley football farm. We call them farms for a reason son...
And another thing and for your info so you don't look like such a fool, Amat did not get "bumped early in playoffs." WE did not make the playoffs.
"I may be stupid but I prey upon the moron." ~bluorca
hey aram mcbride leaving was pretty bad for bishop but the real talk should be on the future of the valleys better prospects.Ive watch much football for many years and ive never seen players like this before. theres three sophmores that played amazing this year and the two best out of the 3 did not get no publicity. RB Nico Barbone from San Dimas, QB Oscar Robles from Northview, and Chris allen from charter oak.Allen had gotten much publicity because his team had made the playoffs.but he had good players around him. But Barbone and Robles are in their own league. they had no players around them but they still managed to shine.Northviews QB Oscar Robles is amazing ive never seen a QB at that age do the kind of the things he did. He had great footwork and a rocket for an arm( when his line gave him time) and had great precision in the pocket and accurcy. he reminds me alot of drew brees because hes only about 5"10 or 5"11 but is amazing.all he needs is a good big strong receiver to give him some yac because .all i got to say is how in heck did this guy endup at northview, he should have been at a bishop or damien. coach be thankfull that u landed a guy like this. this is a once in a lifetime chance to have this kid and u better utilize him to the best of his abliteies.but RB nico barbone is a beast. Just like robles he has no complment players around him. but i know coach Z will take care f that. Barbone is just an old fashion type of runner who runs people over and has a good amount of speed. his technique is perfect the way he reads the holes and switches the ball from hand to hand depending on what side of the field he is on. I was at the pomona game where i think he almost put up 300 yards of total. he reminds me alot of a fast Mike alstot beacuse of the way he runs offense. at his senior season he will be the best RB in the valley maybe even SC. And Chris allen have to give him props for leading his team to CIF but still really has not proved himself that much. Hey aram i have the perfect title for this summers prep football preview. A picture of allen barbone and robles withe the title the amzing trio.
To sum every thing up ill say the order of the amazinf trio in order
1.) RB Nico barbone wins sgv tribune player of the year next yearand the new beast from the east and maybe the best RB in SC his senior season.
2.) QB Oscar Robles best QB i ever seen could compete for # 1 spot best qb in the valley next year or the year after for sure Division one prospect
3.)QB chris allen amazing sophmore year stilla lot to prove but will always live in the shadow of Oscar Robles
to bad ba
to bad ba
Bluorca,
Alot of trash being talked by you its O.K. though LA will take your oh not all that players and LA will probably take the title next year its just too bad people like you don't encourage these kids to strive for something far better than what BA and there coaches had to offer. (losing season) bumped early in playoffs Oh Yeah one more thing and not so many parents that act like bitches (refering to the men). So take your talk and your stupidity and start praying for your precious lancers cause everybody knows when your politics supersede the talent your willing not to utilize. There are schools like LA that kids are dying to play for. Last 3 years over 85 freshman show up for summer camp and alot of others begging to play for this coaching staff.
So your accusations of recruiting or let me say stupidity that only people like you come up with are false. Everybody wants to be a winner thats why kids seek to play at Los Altos and leave alot less successful schools such as yours.
Bienemy,Wagner(Mike & William), and McCluskey were also all <5'9"weren't they?
I have the solution to the LA and BA Debate.
1. Fire Verti
2. Find out how much ULV pays for a head coach.
3. Match the salary.
4. Hire Gano. (He has said he would leave to coach at La Verne.) (Remember money talks and Gano has Ears.)
5. Now BA has a proven coach and recruiter. Make sure Gano can bring Howland along.
This would solve the little problems in a quick way.
Conq. insider is it true about Amat & Los Altos in week 1? I hope it is, with all this controversy going on with these schools this game would be huge for this area, also this blog will explode over the summer as this game gets closer, the only bad thing is it will take me hours to read thru this blog & my wife was already running out of patience this past season for the time I spent on this blog, Oh well, thats football season for you.
ACK ARAM!
You make me type when my eyes are swollen! HaHa! OK...one more and then I'm gone.
Your are right man, both Gaisie and McBride are small backs and it was wrong of me to point out McBride's size. But it was Gaisie that established himself as Amat's main offensive weapon. Even as a healthy junior, Gaisie was impressive in establishing himself as the center of the offense. When he went down this year, McBride had more than enough opportunities to shine. And he did play well and he will be better next year. But it was not McBride that became the center of the offense...it was Dorian Wells that took over the spotlight. I personally would like to see Wells in the backfield and I have heard some semi reliable rumors that this might be the case.
If Wells is indeed being moved into the backfield, I too would have transferred to Los Altos if I had to compete againts him for the RB spot. Wells is the real deal. Hopefully he will remain a faithful Lancer.
Amat has a great tradition but Haden and McKay don't play there anymore and last time I checked Minor, McCutcheon, sermons and McDonald were out of eligibility. The last time Mater Dei played here the stands were not full. Over the course of the last 5-7 years there has not been a stronger program than Los Altos. Charter Oak and South Hills are right there and West Covina is closing the gap. None of these schools have been cited by the CIF for recruiting violations. Open enrollment has leveled the playing field with the private schools. Gano, Bogan and even someone of questionable character like Farrar don't write the rules....they just play the game. I don't ever recall them publicly laying the blame for a loss on others...refs, etc.
Amat just has to get better by quit complaining and work harder.
My Bran-Scan On Los Altos and Recruiting
ALL the top public school teams (Most in the Pac-5) such as Esperanza, Edison, Long Beach Poly, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, etc. recruit players from all over. They use legal and sometimes illegal means to do this as well. This is no secret and its been done for many years now. The reason why these schools do this is because they compete in league/divisions that do the exact same thing. And to remain competitive (ESPECIALLY PLAYING AGAINTS THE PAROCHIALS) recruiting on all levels in a necessity if you want to have any success in these leagues/division.
Los Altos does indeed practice some recruiting tactics and it does not take a guru to explain this to anyone. But my question is....why?
I would understand more if Los Altos actually competed in a powerful league or scheduled more than two known Farms in their preseason. But this is not the case and I do not remember the last time Los Altos has scheduled anyone of Div 1-2 in the preseason. I asked this question before and no one was able to give me a good response. Someone had mentioned Orange Lutheran but that was the playoffs...Lutheran was not actually scheduled by Los Altos.
This will piss a lot of people off but the truth is that the Southwest Division is extremely weak in comparison to the Inland or the Pac-5. It is unnecessary for any team in the Southwest to recruit in order to remain competitive. So basically, Los Altos is recruiting to remain competitve in the SGV and a weak division. And this is wrong because the other schools in the Miramonte do not do this. And as far as the playoff teams are concerned, there are NO farms in the Southwest Division.
In conclusion, I dont think there is anything wrong with a public school recruiting as long as there is a good reason why they do it. Los Altos has no good reason. And I'm not saying this because I'm bitter. NO ONE from Bishop Amat or any other Parochial should ever point the finger at a public school. This is not our place even though it's Amat that is losing a few players. That's life at a parochial...you gain good players and sometimes you lose good players.
It's the rest of the Miramonte that should be pissed and should speak up. But judging by the number of people that actually show up to Miramonte games, I dont think too many people care. Los Altos is the most sucessful football program as far as number of championships and you would think with all their talk of tradition and history that more people would actually show up at their games. But the fact is that you can show up to a Los Altos game at 8:30pm that started at 7:00 pm and still get GREAT seats!
Tradition and history dont mean squat if you are recruiting and refusing to play anyone of value. They also dont mean squat if you have problems filling up your home stands on a friday night.
That's enough for now...
Well guess what? on the Bishop Amat campus and at school Friday was Marcus Wagner....Sounds like a change of heart happened unless he was doing the final clean out of his locker...sources say he was attending school. Lancers vs cantconquershit game the first week is welcome over at BA....why Mt Sac.? If your team is that great play at Amat....sounds like fear to me already...Ask WC what it is like to play a D1 Mater Dei.....LA you know you would get mopped up and then run your excuses of Referees and coaching bad decisions etc....then after that will run around the SGV claming you played Bishop Amat a D1 program and lost but grew some sacks....
I find it hard to believe that Amat RB would be invited to a National ALL-STAR game after playing in only 3 games in the season. No one is STUPID enough to believe that. Well maybe the ONE person spreading that rumor but that's it. He's stupid but no one else. Everyone has seen the prospects. Look at the rosters. Amat RB not in same class. How do people believe this crap?
BREAKING NEWS!!!
Amat and Los Al have week one open and their are preliminary talks that a game may be played. Now all the B**ching and complaining can end. It will be settled on the field. We will finish the job that CO could never get done. West Co wont be the only school to play the PAC-5.
Aram,
Can you validate this statement and call the ADs and head coaches so this crap can end. The biggest game in the Valley and we'll dominate for years to come. The players want it. The parents want it. And the schools want it. MT. Sac would be the perfect place.
Bluorca,
McBride is small, but what's Gaisie?
Any news on West Covina? 1fan, you seem to be an insider have you heard anything?
Bishop Brothers you drove me to finally have to spew some venom of the truth. Everything that needs to be said goes something like this "To the victor go the spoils!" Success breeds success and our tradition is second to none. Bishop Amat in the past and present would get beat by us simply because we have always had better coaches one and two our athletes have always been the best TEAM on the field. What are we suppose to say "no" to every kid that wants to transfer into our school? Logic and reason tell you playing for a mediocre team vs. playing for a C.I.F. Championship are a no brainer. So what if we are an all-star team of transfers because bottom line we still have to win on the field and we have never gotten in trouble yet for bending the rules. End of story that's the difference is we bend the rules but have never broken the rules and if you are stupid enough to accuse us of worse then "IF YOU'RE NOT CHEATING YOU'RE NOT TRYING!" There is nothing you can do about it so get over it. HaHa we win and you lose NahNaNahNaNahNa... YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS, INSTEAD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND WIN?!?
P.S. CO ROCKS LA go ahead and keep opening your mouth and talk trash but in the end regardless nothing is going to be sweeter than when we beat you twice next year if you're lucky just like the old days! I have to go now and put on my C.I.F. rings and get my day started instead of sitting around and reading about could of, should of, would of, what if…
The beasts of the east have been slain, long live the Conquerors forever! I love L.A. We love it!
This has got to stop! I'm tired of reading and hearing the complaints about Amat.
Amat supporters: You guys are getting exactly what you deserve. Your underhanded recruitment techniques are famous throughout the SGV! From Beinemy, to Miner, to Rix (you transfered out), to Royster, to Brown, etc all were recruited by Amat! For years your little Catholic school would bring in some of worse thugs in the SGV and get them to play at Amat. These kids parents never paid tution and these same kids never showed any respect on campus (how do I know this: first hand accounts from some of your former starts). Your administration never game a damn about anything except your precious football team. Now in 2006, the tide has turned! Kids dont want to go there anymore and your butt hurt. You supporters can blame it on the coach, blame on the administration, and/or blame it on the kids. Bottom of the line, the blames falls squarely on the parents. That is a private school, so you Amat parents have a lot of control. You could have stopped your schools decline a long time ago. However, you guys thought that people want surely want to come to tradition filled Amat! Now your seeing how stupid that logic is. If your basing your school's tradition on football, then Amat will never be shit again!
Amat distractors: Stop fucking whining and deal with it! If you guys thought Amat wasnt shit, then why dont the other top notched programs in the valley play them? Besides CO, not one other top notch program has the balls to play them. Gano can sit over there at LA and say how great his team, but every year Amat wants to play them, he declines. You'll take there kids, but you play the school. This sounds like a case of: NO BALLS! I'm no lover of Amat, but unless your schools want to play them, then everyone needs to shut up. As long as you guys keep whining about Amat, then there still going to matter. No one in the SGV cares about them anymore. I saw them at the Claremont passing league this past summer and they looked like crap then.
Bottom of line is this: Amat should not be getting all this debate on a blog. Either play them and blow them out or shut up and watch there demise.
to the guy who wanted 411 on jd...his heart is almost to big for his body the guy doesnt back down from anyone and what an athlete! healso has givin back to the community in his first 3 years and he hasnt even gotten his big payday yet if he wouldnt of gotten a concusion in week 14 in the cif finals you might be able to call the 99 charter oak charegers one of the top 10 valley teams ever im sure aram has a nice spread ready for him sometime next week....heres some insider information...the guy took the time to call one of the coaches at co during pre game to wish good luck and offered the kids a few words of encouragement...how many vallley football players have played in/won a superbowl??
to the guy who listed all those bishop amat football scholarship athletes...how the heck do u have all those guys on the list and a bunch of 5-5 seasons????? you guys dont need a new coach you NEEd a new recruiting cordinator i would go to crenshaw and pull some rj soward types
All this attention and not even spring ball time.
Blueorca,
Lets set something straight, grades are not the reason people are transferring from Amat. I graduated from there and have close ties to the situation. Listen to the coaches, listen to the administrators, listen to that person in the AD's office that tries to contradict the blogs that show the tuth. I have a very reliable source that there were at least 10 Amat juniors that were transferring out this semester and for the first time in many years there were none trying to transfer in, now that is a shame. The person here to blame is Msgr. Carroll.
Amat lost their top administrator this year in Mrs. Wiard and to this date nothing has been said in the Amat web site, wishing her well and thanking her would have been the proper thing to do. Mrs. Wiard was responsible for many of the scholarships that had been given in the past years, she helped negotiate on many occasions different clauses in the scholarships. Mrs. Wiard is a class act and a huge loss.
As for Football, I went to games at Amat and Los Altos. Amat would have beaten them this year. Casteneda would have started this year at Amat but not in previous. He probably should have been given a chance but the Amat coaches would not even open up the competition. Look Casteneda is about 5-6 and they had this guy that was 5-10 and his parents were very active in the booster club. That is a big thing at Amat. I have seen kids recently in all sports including girls volleyball and baseball tht were given special treatment because of this.
As for LA, with or without these players they will compete in their division. They have many returning players and these are real good kids. They play with heart, something that was not at Amat this year. True LA was only 2-3 in league but they were exciting to watch week in and out. I know someone that played at El Dorado and they said the Semi final game at LA was the toughest team they played all year. I am not a Gano fan, I saw him make some moves that should have cost him against Damien and others but the one thing that he does, he was able to rally his team when it counted.
You can go to an Amat game and than to a LA game and there is a big difference in participation. Amat regularly has standing room only while LA has plenty of room to sit and stretch out. I wish LA would get better participation from the alumni and that would make the difference.
I hear that Verti has not owned up to the season, just still blaming youth. He needs to step up and make changes to the staff. The hell with friends and past disagreements whith good coaches when you were playing, make the right move and utilize the best possible coaches out there. Hire a good old boy that can restore the tradition and pride that is Amat. And just remimber that if you thought this year was tough, another year like this will be worse, the alumni can be ruthless. As a coach you never want to come out and blame youth, make the corrections and make it happen.
Amat will not change divisions and they should not. The D-1 caliber brings the scouts out regularly and they can still compete.
As for the Amat administration, Msgr. Carrol, let Mr. Heminway take full charge of the school. He understands the tradition and I see it in him. You walk in the office and Msgr. has the staff walking on pins and needles, it is rediculous. Msgr Carrol has turned away thousands of dollars for the sports programs because he wants to control it and I hear it is starting to happen to the new baseball coach. He wants his share for the school from whatever the individual programs raise through fundraisers. Wow, do you see another good coach getting fed up and leaving in the near future.
Msgr. Carroll must go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oops! Substitute "Michael" for "William." I don't know who William Wagner is either! haha!
You think you know but you dont know...
That was a great post. I read it 3x and it got better every time I read it. Royal Blue and Gold runs in your veins and you make Amat proud.
Yeah, everyone always forgets about grades. I guess grades only matter at Damien and Amat.
AMAT PRIDE!
LOOKIE LOOKIE AT ALL THE ATTENTION THE HOME OF THE LANCERS GETS!!! TALK ABOUT MEDIA DOMINATION! HEHE!
THERE HAS NOT BEEN THIS MUCH OFF SEASON EXCITEMENT SINCE WEST COVINA LEARNED THAT THEY WOULD BE PLAYING MATER DEI! HAHA!
Joe Amat...Your list of our Lancers in College is truly grand and impressive. I'd feel kinda silly if I was one of the people that posted their players lists trying to be impressive...impressive againts Bishop Amat? LOL! NO SCHOOL has more players playing college ball people than AMAT! Who cares about the whole private vs public debate. Facts are facts. You Amat Haters crack me up sometimes with pure but forgivable ignorance.
Amat has been here before. Amat has lost and gained players throughout the years. I dont know why this is making such big news. McBride is a good player but his statistics were not that impressive and he really is a small guy. If he was such a great player, he would have started in front of Gaisie, which he did not until Gaisie got injured. I've always stated that Gaisie was the better and true natural runningback and it's sad that he was injured the last 2 seasons. Now do not get me wrong, McBride will mature and play better than he did this year but common now...Let's be honest and stick to the stats and facts. MCBRIDE is no superstar nor is he a supertransfer. A good play here and there does not make a great player. Unfortunately for Amat, McBride spent most of the time on his back this season.
And I do not want to hear any crap about blaming Amat's OL....Amat's OL did well againts most of their opponents including pushing one of the most talented and GIGANTIC lines in Loyola high. And how about that deadly defense from ST. FRANCIS that completely embarrassed Los Altos statistically? Yah, Amat's line was also able to push on them well.
Given the fact that Los Altos refuses to schedule ANYONE of value, McBride will probably do well there and I wish him luck. As far as Wagner is concerned, he's no where near as talented as his brother so ya'll need to calm down about him transferring. HE IS NOT WILLIAM! Both of these players did not prove themselves this last season. There are only two superstars on Amat's team...AUSTIN AND DORIAN WELLS!!! And if Gaisie was healthy, I too would have started him ahead of McBride. And I guarantee you, McBride would have been 3rd string if Wells started at RB.
As far as anyone else that is transferring, so what? We get players, we lose players. The players that we are losing aren't all that and they are completely replacable. Congrats Los Altos! LOL!
~If we lose AUSTIN or WELLS however, THESE would be HUGE losses worth mentioning! But as far as McBride and Wagner...their poor to mediocre statistics do not lie...
So Amat Haters can stop drooling...It's not that big of a deal even though ya'll would love to believe it is...hahahhaha!
So Amat fans can stop worrying...We have not lost any SCHOLARSHIP players fellow Lancers! Everyone knows that the best players at Bishop Amat do not pay a cent in tuition! hahahaha! Can anyone guess what 2 players payed tuition every month like good lil Lancers? Anyone? Any guesses? Need some hints? I'll spare you the details....
*When the sun goes down and the moon goes up, Amat will shine!*
sgv athelete you were asking about LA's players in universities and jc's how about randall brown, brigham harwell, daniel drayton, sal ortiz, keith brown, chapelle brown, louie magallon, travis brown that's all i can think of so far any other la fans add if i forget someone
Lancerland
As a matter of fact, we did choose our daughter's University after attending a football game.
When searching for a high school, we were in search of a faith based Catholic school. One with a strong academic environment where the majority of students share our Catholic faith.
We then looked at the social environment. What better way to get a feel for a school than by attending a few home football games.
Athletics meant absolutely ZERO. No delusions of grandeur or living vicariously through our children. She ran cross country because she enjoyed it.
You see, a few fall seasons ago, we took a plane ride to Chicago, then a train ride to South Bend. Saw a beautiful campus, Touchdown Jesus, and the Basilica.
Went back the next summer for the summer high school student program. So yeah, in a way I guess it all started with a college football game. She will be at Notre Dame after graduating this June. A great Catholic University.
It all starts with a hope of a good education. Which I believe still exists at Amat. But it may be running away from them. The had better grab the horse by the collar real quick or she may just get out of the corral.
Maybe you missed the part about not being an Amat hater. This was once a very classy school with a wonderful reputation both on and off of the field. But things have changed, and not for the betterment of the school. I enjoy watching the high level of football at Amat. Went to two games on 2005 and saw them handle Mater Dei and Loyola (eventual D-1 champs a few weeks later).
I know Mrs. Wiards son(s) are still at Amat. One is a soph, not sure of the other. Her husband is still the coach. Why would he leave ?
I may have been a bit rough. I certainly did not want to offend you or Alma Mater. I truly wish Amat better luck. But Lancerland, listen here. They need a Paradigm change at the school if they are ever to get back to greatness. On and off of the field. Get rid of the problems, get back to recruiting the best students. The athletes will follow. Take a step down for a few years. Stick to your faith and NEVER compromise it for what may be a potential win here or there. Best of Luck.
You think you know.... We agree on the point of the negativity, but on the coach issue we dont see eye to eye. Yes, there were DVDs made, but when did the players get them? How many players still haven't gotten them? Some of your points using UCLA were valid, but what if a scout does come calling and asks the coach if there is ANY potential talent on the team and the coach responds with, no? That has happened, for a fact with more than one University. By the way, UCLA was one of them. Those actions are inexcuseable. If that is happening everywhere, then the entire system is broken and coaches have too much power over a student athlete's future.
What about colleges sending letters to players in care of the school, but the players not receiving these letters timely from their coach. This has also occurred recently. It is not for the coach to pick and choose who gets what. They are not God. Just forward the information promplty after it is received and allow the families to make those decisions on who to contact or not.
If the influx of mail is too great, then bring in an admin person to log in and forward the mail for the coach. That should be a no brainer and a school of Amat's caliber, which everyone is so quick to point out, should be able to handle it.
I also agree, a player is solely responsible for his grades as well. But again, that does not excuse a coach from denying a player participation in a game that could, at least be his last experience with football and at most, lead to some form of opportunity to continue their career.
No, There are no simple answers to all the problems, but some could be easily fixed and others could have been avoided all together. A coach cant if they just dont know. But that is what experience brings to the table.
"LA Losers" you're funny, LA going 2-3 in league haha, LA isn't depending on just transfers as they do have there fair share of returning starters, they'll go deep in the playoffs AGAIN unlike you're little "prestigous" school.
"stop by Amat and and go look inside that hall of fame....now that is tradition...baseball football and basketball"
LMAO are you serious!?!?! What has Amat done in ANY of those sports lately, o wait thats right girls basketball!!! Wow thats a lot to be proud of! Your telling LA to stop living in the past when your bringing up the Hall Of Fame of Bishop Amat, where you can see all the glory of the PAST of Bishop Amat, get used to seeing the same things for years to come because Bishop isn't going anywhere anytime soon! LAC
Some of you are speaking from opinion and some of you are speaking because you think you know. Some of you bring up great points and some of you don't have a clue. A rumor is a rumor. But so many people take them as fact and become experts. The fact is Los Altos has had a very good program for many years. I have nothing negative to say about that program. Gano is a great coach and a smart one. He knows better than to step on the field with the Lancers. Amat is down, that’s obvious. But not for all of the reasons you think. I wish the two schools would play each other. That would be great for the SGV. I can tell you for sure that Amat is not ducking LA. It’s the other way around. It makes me laugh when I hear Los Altos people talking. Yes, you have had some success. Your reputation is well deserved. Yes, Bishop Amat is not what it once was. No, you still would not beat them even with all of your new transfers. Let us state the obvious. D7 is not D1. Bishop Amat is to D1 what Mike Tyson is to the Heavyweight division. A has been. But do you hear Floyd Mayweather or Oscar De La Hoya talking trash about Iron Mike. No! Because they know Tyson will still knock there heads off on his worst day! Wrong weight class LA. Please shut your mouth and be careful what you wish for!
As a Lancer Alum, I am sick and tired of the negativity that I am hearing. It sucks. The players AND the coaches can do a better job. “The Truth Sometimes Hurts and “Next stop...Mediocre have mad some great points. I will add to that by saying the leadership at Amat has let the students, faculty and alumni down. If money wasn’t the only priority, there may be a different atmosphere. Isn’t it more important to keep good teachers, coaches and administrators around? Of course money is important and it doesn’t grow on trees. But there are plenty of “trees (Alums) waiting to donate whatever the school needs. Most of them won’t do anything until the overall philosophy changes. Wouldn’t it make sense to invest in the best people you can find? Would it not pay off in the long run?
If you think that Verti has not helped the kids with colleges, you are wrong. Throughout the year the coaches send out DVD’s with all senior prospects for that year. I have seen the DVD’s. They are professionally done. The problem lies with the fact that not all college coaches think of a kid the same way his parents do. It’s a harsh reality that athletes and parents don’t understand until they start getting calls from Mt. Sac & Citrus. So what do they do? Blame it on everyone else. As if someone needs to be blamed at all. It is not entirely up to the coaches to get there guys looked at. Do they play a large role? Yes. Do some kids slip through the cracks? Yes. Is that a shame? Yes. But this happens at all schools (even LA & CO). Plus, all the real talk happens on the field and in the classroom. A high school coach cannot make a college coach offer a kid a scholarship. I think many of you have forgotten that or maybe you never knew that. The college chooses the kid not the other way around. The high school coach can send out film, pump a kids name up, and feature him in the game plan. He can even drive to UCLA and put the tape (or DVD) in coach Dorrell’s hand. But it is at that point where UCLA has the decision to make. Not the high school coach, he has gone above and beyond at that point. Do you all really think that every college in the country recruited Daylon McCucheon and Ralph Brown because of Salter? He was a great coach but those guys could have gotten scholarships with Forest Gump as there coach. For those of you who remember the “Glory Days, you may not know that Coach Mark Paredes told the parents “I do not get your kids scholarships. Your kids earn their scholarships. Bishop Amat coaches along with all other coaches, do much more for kids than was done back in the 80’s and 90’s. I can guarantee you that Colleges know of Bryce McBride. He will probably have a great year at LA and I wish him the best. But it will be because of his play not his high school coach. Bishop Amat is still one of the first places that recruiters go to when they come to the SGV. That is a fact and it won’t change. Just because they are not handing out scholarships left and right doesn’t mean its all Virti’s fault. Come on, let’s be real! Someone mentioned that Verti has done nothing for Jesse Cervantes or Gaisie. They forgot to mention that their grades are not good enough! At some point the kids have to help themselves and take care of business in the classroom! Tell the whole story! Don’t just blame everything on the coaches! I wish Bishop Amat was doing things differently from the coaching to the administration to the players themselves. But there is no simple answer. Lets just see how Verti rebounds from all of this turmoil and adversity. Good luck this season! Go Lancers!
Luvthis game,
It was a sarcastic remark about Castaneda playing at ND..........heck Castaneda could not start for ELA college..........LA will be lucky if they play .500 ball in their 10 game schedule. they will most likely go 2-3 in league and get in by the coin toss again and then claim they are sending players to the D1 college level etc etc etc............what crock of shit over there in Hacienda Heights.........stop living off Cody and Harwell...stop by Amat and and go look inside that hall of fame....now that is tradition...baseball football and basketball.........all your school claims is football....what the hell else you have going for you...you athletic Dept is week....you LA people are way out of your league comparing yourself to Amat.........Put chang and wong back there to run the ball for you....sounds like a chinese fire drill to me..........
Los Altos will be relying on Bryce McBride this coming year...Bullseye on him coming from Amat to play down...CO and SH will be licking their chops..........everyone will be gunning for him. Why a investigation has not been made about LA recruiting is amazing....Gano can not win with the Asians.....
Aram
Can't wait to stick little Mcbride.
Not a talent at Amat or LA. 500 yards, LOL. Right?
We'll get his little 5'7" body with our solid strong DEFENSE!
"SGV Athlete"
Why are all you Amat guys getting your panties in a bunch over college players. If you'd look at my post with the D1 players, you'd see that I was answering someone else's question (valley411) about the lack of LA's college players, not trying to "brag" about the numbers. Trying to compare Amat/LA's D1's is a bit like comparing apples/oranges. Amat can pick, and choose students from all of Socal, whereas LA has a much smaller area to draw from. If you were to plug-in any Amat player from the past 35 years into LA's system (under the staffs of Despain, and Gano) you would get the same D1 results.
Conq Alum,
of course Joe Amat is including JC's in the list. Most of thoses guys have a real chance at getting a D-I scholarship out of a JC. I would know, I'M ONE OF THOSE GUYS ON THAT LIST! and I know for a fact that the kicker at AMAT in 2005 was talking to schools like ASU and Nebraska, but the staff screwed him over too (i'm not him though). Its not their fault they couldn't get help outta high school.
Answer me this though, how many Los Al guys are still playing ball right now, JC or University??
What a joke...
For the record: 65% of Amat students go to a four year university. 30% go to a two year college. 95% of all grads eventually get a 4 year degree or more.
For "Sometimes the Truth Hurts": The Charter Oak Principal's kids go to Bishop Amat- obviously she still has faith in the school. Also, I have nieces who go to St. Lucy's- I could spend an hour bashing St. Lucy's like you trashed Amat. But I wouldn't do that to another school. Every school has it's weak spots. If you chose your daughter's high school by attending football games, that doesn't really make much a whole lot of sense. Are you going to choose her college by attending a football game too?
It is amazing how many people want to place the blame on these players or bad mouth the players on any HS team. These are not professional athletes, that get paid on salary and endorsements. These are kids.
The responsibilty falls on the administration and the coaching staff. The adults that parents entrust their kids to 8+ hours a day. If things are out of control, who let them get out of control. Hello?
If these kids are so called "thugs", then the administration and coaches are still guilty of letting the inmates run the asylum.
If there are so many lower quality players at Amat, why fill your roster with these "cheerleaders"? They wear skirts. Just have cuts like you do with any other sport at Amat or anywhere else.
Everyone talks about going D1. Getting a student athelete a free education at any level should be automatic at Amat. Going to a JC from Amat should be considered an underachievement. If you want to claim being the best, compare yourself with your peers in D1 and the Pac 5. Do so in recent times as well. By the way, Loyola was rebuilding this season also. :) Don't pump your chest over lower division schools just because they are in the same area. That proves nothing. The Bulls won 3 titles in a row twice how long ago, and can still beat the Clippers, but they still suck now. Period.
It is a new era, old HS divisions mean nothing. If it did, Oaks Christian, a "D-10" private school, would not have put out so many kids on D1 scholarships. Recruiting or not there, wouldn't matter, would it?
Castaneda vs Clausen at Notre Dame.... Neither kid from a "mighty D1" HS, but competing at a D1 college and getting a free education. Not too bad for the scrub schools, huh?
By the way, is it Gaisie's (Amat #1 RB) fault that he didn't get his letter to the Army game. Is it ant Amat seniors' fault that they are not promoted by their head coach to colleges? Is it their fault that Verti has not developed any relationship with colleges scouts? D1 or otherwise? His being a UCLA alum has supposed to be a plus. So far all its done is confirm what every UCLA opponent knows it really stands for: U-niversity of C-ompletely L-ost A-ssholes. That sums up the current staff pretty well.
The sad part is by the time anything is reallly done at Amat, 2 -3 more classes of kids will have suffered from this blatant negligence. Do the math. But, I forgot, its all the players fault. Man, what was I thinking?!?!?!...
A.T.:
Just wanted to let you and the rest of the SGVTribune Prep Sports Fans know that La Verne's own Traci Buchholz is a finalist to be the 'Best Damn Sports Show Vegas Insider' for NBA All-Star Weekend. Traci is a local girl - St.Lucy's/UCLA/and of course A Local Sports Show co-host (before she took the back seat to Aram) but she's got alot of talent and ready to represent the SGV on a national network level. Please visit the link below to vote for her - she truly deserves this. Thanks everyone.

Vote for Traci
in response to things like...
"That's not counting several former SH and current JC players ..."
and
"Not exactly a meager list in Gano's time. Especially considering the number of equally talented players that were not going to be recruited D1 no matter what their talent, due to being very undersized."
like I said, not a game you want to play. even amat's DI players still active outnumbers even the mighty Conq's
...but you are right, these are sad times for amat...and worse - you could see it coming.
LA backers talk to me when you can beat the OC....they have your number....you may have recruited and continue to do so but your decline is right around the corner.........I would not put my eggs all in one basket with Bryce and Wagner......one or both go down to injury you are in deep SH--........remember they are not Ira Thomas size........Bryce is injury prone and Wags well there is a med. problem there not worth discussing here........remember for all the hype you put out on how great that school is and the d1 talent it puts out you got in last year with a coin flip....I did not see greatness anywhere there....and your 5'7' Castaneda I here he is competing with Clausen over at Notre Dame...give me a break!
"Joe Amat"
JC's??? You included JC's in your college list???
These are sad times for BA...
If you read anything that I write, I am far from a myopic amat apologist and among the realists in the group. But, really, this is a game that you don't want to play.

Bishop Amat is a has been! The entire sports program is getting worse every year and athletes are starting to realize that its just not worth it to go there anymore. All of you Bishop Alumni can say all you want but when it comes down to it in the SGV its all about getting that CIF Championship no matter what division, and Amat hasn't been anywhere close to that in the past few years and isn't going to be any time soon.
Lancers, prepare to be dismounted. Start circling the wagons. We've hit a moment in time where your past glory can no longer carry you alone.
A drop into one of the lower divisions is where you are headed. Perhaps then, you can rebound, and gain that aura that you once held. I think having a preseason sched with a 2 or 3 Div 1 opponents, followed with league play in the Miramonte or Sierra would be very stirring.
Your NOTHING of a threat in Div 1. Ever heard of this, "It would be better to rule in Hell, than to serve in Heaven" ???
Meanwhile back at the ranch, does anybody have any news on West Covina?, any up & coming players?
We lost a lot of talent but we had a couple kids coming back, Isaac Tucker for one,& Josh Thomas
also seemed promising, how about the younger Wallace brother? 1fan have you heard anything?
Los Altos + Cheating = Losers hu well its is not the kids fault they do not want to lose, or be in a program that is going straight into the ground. They want a better chance to get a scholorship and i do not see Amat getting any schools anywhere these last few years. they are not helping them get to where the want to be. Then they see other schools like La and west covina. They see that these tams are making the playoffs and doing well and winning and they want that to be them. All they see around them at that school is chaos and so they leave. nd the way things are going all you are going to see from Verti is him looking stupid on the sidelines no knowing what to do just like last year.
Well since we've decided to go down memory lane with the thread, here are some of the players from South Hills HS that have/or are currently played College Football after their years are completed at SHHS
Bryan Payton (Currently with Oregon St.)
Jeremy Payton (Currently with Arizona St.)
Tobi Umodu (Currently with UCLA)
Kyle Petersen (Currently with UTEP)
Justin Hart (Currently with USC)
Chance Dunleavy (Currently with Middle Tennessee St.)
{at this point - it's interesting to note that five of those players played in Bowl games this season}
Jason Murray (Graduated from Boise St.)
Jaron Fairman (Currently at Fresno St.)
Matt Rogers (Finalist for American Idol and 2000 Rose Bowl winner with University of Washington)
Tyrell Tyler (San Jose St.)
Marcus Nolan (Currently at UC Davis)
Ryan Leadingham (Graduated from Sacramento St as the school's most prolific passer)
Matt Williams (Sacramento St.)
Brad Lofton (Sacramento St.)
Sean Pierce (San Diego St.)
Grey McNeill (San Diego St.)
That's not counting several former SH and current JC players (Martin Garcia, Gio Guerra. etc.) that are getting heavily recruited by Div I-AA and Div-II and the current crop of seniors are SH John Salazar, Nick Lamaison and Nic Curry (BTW, all-area selections) that are getting recruited by Division I-AA and Division II schools....And their is one junior at SH that has already been offered a D-1 scholarshipo several weeks ago.
Yeah, it can safely be said that SH does a great job of getting their players to the next level.

Mcbride is a great addition to LA no doubt. Very talented and will do his damage in Getting points for the offense. One guy and handful of others for LA..bottom line is, you play with 11 and the supporting cast over there is going to break down and LA will still be getting beat by SH and CO.....Big news you take one Stud from Amat and now thet spells a championship banner....Not going to happen....Amat yes in disarray no doubt but you can only go up from being down and they will return. People kick us when we are down and people love us when we are up....Because we a few left it seems like huge news that we are about to have a losing season. Those young men over at Amat read this blog and allot are selling us short but do not be surprised as to what team you will see this year. Mighty are the Men that Wear the Blue And Gold...These kids will be ready this coming season and Verti wil make all you non believers look like idiots....Say all the negative you want about our players all you are doing is adding fuel to their fire. Hey Credo you lost your Guido (Gallipo) and your program will flatten out big time this year....Trinty is a great league but Amat can hang with any of those teams ask MaterDei and Loyola. Questioning our class over at Amat is BS.....the class is still there with our parents the classless one are the ones that are leaving because poor Johnny did not get to play and Mommie and Daddy are bad mouthing the coach.....Amat will Shine like they always do....Our games are packed with people on gameday and allot of outsiders come to watch our team. Los Altos + Cheating = LOSERS!
ok amatcalvalry if what you just said was true how was the qb from La dong so well? he can see threw people, and why did the qb from Amat do so poorly? What 17 started are returning please answer that one?
Next Stop, I agree that players have to make plays... I dont think anyone at Amat thought Rollonson was coming there... Someone mentioned passing league games??? Last time I heard a passing league game was in the summer and Football was a Fall sport... Plus teams dont run real defense or real offense... They do help you get ready for the season, but it is easy for a 5'5 QB throw through the line of scrimmage... put 6' 2 linemen and the game is different plus a rush... LBs dont respect the run... you can go on for days... Real MEN wear the Blue and Gold... Everyday is a great day to be a Lancer... 17 starters returning WOW!!!!
why don't the AMAT boys transfer to ST. PAUL?
Next stop medicore,
That couldn't have been said in any better. Nice Rollinson jab!
If you people would smell the coffee and WAKE UP. Do you really know what's was going on at AMAT. The big picture ?? That's right stay in the box. That's right blame the those parents for bringing those "Thuggish kids" to the school who are not interested in religion, education, and the pride of the blue. Doesn't it start at the top and rolls down hill. With no proper leadership and no one setting fine examples, no wonder the ship is sinking. You people are only commenting because the lack of production from a high school football team because of the PAST. Bigger issues, like what BA really lacks everything from religion, education, and yes race relations too. Define "Thug" could that include admin staff, teachers, coaches, students, and, players. It's real sad
Here's the thing with Bishop Amat, from the outside looking in:
Before it was enough to say you played for Bishop Amat. Most of the time when you asked if they started they would say,"no" and then give all the details of all the DivI players on the team. My cousin Tirso played cornerback back in the day. To outsiders it was with great respect that we acknowledged the level of competition that made Amat great. I looked at Amat's "practice" players will admiration.
Now when you find out someone plays for Amat "THEY" tell you various reasons why THEY should start but don't...the politics, the coaching ect. ect. That's the biggest difference. The new Amat players ALL THINK THEY CAN START...they can't! Most are just average players. Most wouldn't start anywhere else either. The problem is now the parents of these average players believe their sons should start because , unlike before, the difference between a starter at Amat and a second and third stringer has narrowed. And that's a shame.
I still believe ALL THE BULLSHIT finally caught up with Bishop. Arrogance and more arrogance caught up with Amat.
AND BISHOP REALLY BELIEVED ROLLINSON WAS COMING TO BISHOP AMAT...HE'LL COACH AT SALESIAN AGAIN BEFORE HE EVER COACHES AT AMAT !!!
Verti is going to have to coach his butt off but I suspect the "fans" will have his head by game four..and then what? More transfers out....and then what...what coach would possibly want the job. Like I said Amat is a cancerous place. Too bad the end of an era...welcome to the land of St. Anthony's...opps Bishop Amat.
The saddest thing to me is Bishop Amat could/should have won 3 more games this year except the players didn't make enough plays when they had/used to. Ask any player on this year's team and all they EVER do is blame someone else. THAT'S NOT THE AMAT WAY...BUT IS NOW!
Aram:
How about a thread or mention of current DB from the Super Bowl Bound Indianapoils Colts Jason David, former Charter Oak Charger. Yup, one of the SGV's own is in the NFL's Big Dance. I'll bet I know who Coach Lou and Dom are rooting for in SBXLI.
Good Luck Jason David!
What's the 411 on this kid A.T.?

Attention AMAT '73:
Lets be real here. Class and AMAT are two words which should hardly be placed in the same sentence. Unless you forgot to type the second syllable in the word class(LESS).
AMAT = RAIDERS. No class nowadays, (not that the Raiders ever had any).
It's actually rather disappointing. What used to be a rather fine academic institutional with a glorious football program is no more. A few years back, when we were deciding which area Catholic high school to send our daughter to, we toured the campus and attended several football games. On the periphery, things looked fine. What an eye opener at the football games. When is it ever acceptable to have parents, fans alumni screaming bloody murder at the top of their lungs at the coaches? ( DiFiori).
Especially when they are headed off the field at halftime. And that was a game which the Lancers won. That's not passion. It is stupidity and a lack of class.
Off to St. Lucy's we went. Several of my cousins went to Amat years ago. I am not an AMAT hater.
I really wanted to be positive about this post, but it's hard when the truth is negative.
Amat will be on a downhill run for a while. And it aint only the football program Sally.
Cathy Wiard leaves as the school's VP to take the top spot over at Charter Oak ?? I'm guessing it was not just the dollar. She was my cousin's teacher at Amat 20+ years ago. You do not invest a lifetime in a school and just split for a few more bucks unless things are really headed south. Maybe there is more to the story. Who knows?
As far as the players leaving. Let's face it. I doubt many who plan to leave were there for the education, let alone the religous aspect of attending a Cathlolic school. Adams leaving to Diamond Ranch- BIG DEAL!!! Just another thug. Too bad for Diamond Ranch. Continuation school right around the corner. That kid is a cancer. It's obvious he was never taught right from wrong. Just coddled by foolish parents who had severley misplaced dreams of a college sports career. Not an education.
Amat has turned their collective administrative heads from the root of the problem too. So much of what is wong with the school can only be described as a vain attempt to salvage the athletic programs. Adams and others should have been kicked out long ago for their many transgressions which violated printed school policy. Why were'nt they ousted? No one was willing to part with the kids athletic upside. They ignored his flawed character and downside.
Do you think they are having assemblies at Servite-Mater Dei-Loyola-J Serra-O-Lutheran-Ontario Christian-Damien and St.Lucy's about character? Not too sure. But they have to at AMAT because of the lack of class.
We all tend to be critics at times. I've had my share of words anf thoughts about coaches. But there is a time and a place. Not on game day. Not during the season on blogs which all the kids now read.
I wish Amat a speedy return to their once heralded past. Go about it the right way. The way the school was surely founded. Through your faith. It may take years, several at that. Drop down to a lower level, leave the Pac-5. Be critical of admissions. The players will eventually come back and a return to years of glory gone by might be possible. GOOD LUCK.
it must be 1 hell of a payday over there at la verne if gano is thinking of leaving...final score...
2007 La verne 12
2007 Los altos 35
CO Rules,
I don't agree with you at all. I think McBride is one heckuva player. He also returned kickoffs, and in the games I saw, he seemed to always take them out to the 40. He's got a lot of speed and some good moves. He'll be one of the Valley's top players next year easily.
Amat fans,
Re: Verti
I'd reserve judgement about Verti until a few seasons have passed. He stepped into a tough situation. He had to replace a lot of starters, including a 3-year QB, D-1 linebacker and some D-1 linemen. His top offensive weapon missed most of the season with an injury. If Verti can't make things happen with this year's lower level crop, then you'll be justified. I'll admit, things are off to a bad start with all these players checking out. It doesn't take a genius to see this program is in trouble. It's not hopeless, but it is in trouble.
Amat makes me sick.
Every time I see a gas guzzling SUV with $8,000.00
Amat sticker.
I say poor losers.
Amat says 95% of are students go to college.
aka, PCC, RIO HONDO, Mt. Sac,
I wonder what's the real percentage to a UNIVERSITY.
Save your money for gas.
Drive proud with your little sticker.
Oh ya remember to put your little sticker the right way.
Losers.
The truth is people are leaving Amat because of the things that are going on. Amat is being run into the ground bt Verti. He does not know what he is doing. How do you forget to give a player a letter to play in the army game no ead coach forgets something like that. If he really did forget he has no buisness being the head coach and he should be diagnosed for alzheimers . Amat 73 i would bet you amat would lose to some of the other teams in their area. Did you not see in passing league how they got beat. Ok Ok they did not have pads on but still that would have made the beating worse. Personally i think amat is to SCARED to play any other teams in their area because they are SCARED they would lose. For the people that keep talking about the tradition of amat pretty soon the tradition will be of losing and thats what it has been for the past few years.
Mcbride is no talent pick up for LA
Get real... one game over 100 yards, 4 td's, 500+ yards, 5'7" 170.
LA can have him! Weak talent!
amatcalvary you sure you still have that many players left on your team?
Alright people, we all know that Amat is the power in the Valley. No, one wants to face the Truth. McBride averaged less that 3.5 yds a carry. Gaisie was out for 7 weeks. The ND game Amat had 5 starters out. Amat played Hart, Crespi, and Carson tough with a mediorce senior class to say the least. Amat started 17 underclassmen in the final game vs. Loyola and dominated the game. Wow, people you are talking about LA and CO, both excellent programs, but last time CO played Amat the combined score on all three levels was 107- 7. Los Altos I heard Amat had some openings, care to DANCE???? I saw a post that said Amat could not hang with the Mater Dei's, last I heard was Amat 28 and the Mother of God 7. (2005) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but lets face the Truth LA needs to go get players from other schools and all Amat will do is get the younger kids ready and go FIGHT! Remember Real Men Wear the Blue and Gold. Every day is a great day to be a Lancer. Some people have forgotten that. I cant wait for kickoff!!! 17 Returning Starters, WOW!!!
Conq Alum,
Which athletes from which schools are getting scholarships?
Well, well, well, still bagging on AMAT. For a program that is on the downhill slide we still seem to get plenty of attention . That is because contrary to what all you outsiders say or think we are still the class of the SGV. So we may be losing a few players to the so called powers of the valley. We will survive as always and as our song says " AMAT WILL SHINE". Now maybe now that the other valley schools are getting talent from us they will finally have enough intestinal fortitude to schedule us and get that easy win since our program is in such terrible shape. But like every other year, you know LA and SH would never jeopardize their false standing as a valley power by comming up and have it handed to them by the LANCERS . By the way I would defintely have the english department checked out at SH . (TUFF-HOBBLED-AV )
haha...
And onther thing, you guys got the UGLIEST home uniforms in ALL of football.
I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substituions.
HEY Credo Luvr, why don't you READ the posts. No one is crying, we are simply stating who is leaving and why. We have NOT driven the coffin nail in our program. Let's see how you do this year without Gallipo in the lineup. You were a one man team this year. Try again.
oh!! and CREDO LVR!...your a joke. Servite won its first game aganist us since 2002 last year. You had a STUD linebacker/wide out and a stellar offense...you deserved to win. beat Mater Dei, then call me...
take your OC crap outta here...
"Which private school is loading up on transfers like LA?"
Private schools don't need transfers. They pick, and choose who they want, from where they want. And, paying tuition isn't an issue if they want you bad enough. "Scholarships", "grants" "donations" "freebies", or whatever you want to call them, are all available to the more talented players.
"Someone in your league is going to raise the red flag about the violation."
What violation(s) are you referring to? Or are you just blowing off more bitter steam? I personally don't care about supposed fairness to other league teams. LA has a tradition behind it, and that's what draws in the kids who are looking for college exposure.
Believe me; I'm not crazy about being in the Southwest division (D6, or D7, or whatever it is). I'd much rather have LA in the Pac 5, and play with the best, even if we get our ass kicked year in, and year out. At least you knew where you stood in life.
LA's last year in the BIG 5 (Div 1) was 1981. Really, hasn't been the same since...
lancer4life,
I could not agree with you more!! I graduated last year and I know exactly what it feels like to get screwed over by the football coaching staff. Coach DiFiori understood the he needed to bring some scouts in and he did, but that started to faulter as he relized it was going to be his last year. The only guys that really got out on scholarship where the three year guys and one massive offensive lineman. BUT, there were at least 10-11 more guys in last years class that had the talent to go on and play at some D-IAA and D-II schools. But since the staff didn't promote them enough, half of them have resorted to playing JC ball and the other half have just quit football all together. Sad times...
I do know for a fact that Senior Jessie Cervantes and Brian Birtness will be playing for Mt. SAC next year. What a tragedy. Cervantes had the size, speed, and talent to go D-I, but who called recruits and sent out film for him?? NO-ONE! And what about RB Gaisie?? MISSING THE ARMY GAME BECAUSE THE COACH FORGOT TO GIVE THE INVITE?!?!? I would love to see him go to a good D-I or D-IAA school, but we'll see as signing day is only a week away...
AMAT PRIDE FOREVER....but comeon coach...
All this crying and whining about players leaving disgusts me. Amat, where is your pride? You can't wear pride like a leather jacket, YOU EITHER HAVE OR YOU DO NOT!! It's painfully obvious that you do not!
You would get ran out of the Trinity League in less than 2 years. Your teams would fail miserably to measure up against the OC private schools.
Even JSERRA would punk you.
Servite owns you, now and forever!
Several players left the program but we will recover. The only starters who left were McBride & Wagner. Adams & Sermon left to D.Ranch. Adams had disciple issues and Sermons wasn't fully developed. If other players are leaving, it won't be any impact players who produced last year. Plus there are other players ready to take Brice & Wags place. Some of the comments are true about the coaching. There's no disciple displayed by the coaching staff and the players basically are learning on their own. Outgoing seniors are on there own in the recruiting process. J.Cervantes is the biggest kid on the team and he isn't getting any help from the coaches. There were issues in games especially ND game. No coaching at all. Only the encouragement of the parents from the stands helped us get through the worst beat down. Coach Z dogs everyone and constantly change player's positions every game. It's a big mess but help may be on the way ???
Conqs,
Thats why they are called private. You pay to go there.......How fair is that to your league that you have all these kids living out of the area playing for you......You guys have stacked the deck this year and are most likely in violation, but hey, you had to after El Dorado eliminated you and CO got the props for going to the Dance...Someone in your league is going to raise the red flag about the violation.
Conq Alum,
Which private school is loading up on transfers like LA?
"MATMTWTBAG"
Why the bitterness over a school that does the same thing private schools do? Can't have it both ways...
Mcbride and Wagner are both around 5'7" and talent wise are good. Not great, good...college D1 no way...even tho he did not play college ball William Wagner was a far superior athlete than Mc & Wag....so going to LA is to showcase against the likes of CO SH D'ranch etc...and get in the D7 playoff hunt and possibly a Championship run which is good for them to enjoy during that last year of HS....but thats all it is for them, the last glory days of HS football.....Sure there is a mass exodus over at Amat right now but the loyal stay loyal and win or lose Amat fights on with tradition. The tradition will remain and always remain there at Amat. We will play with what we have and we will compete with what we have. The stands will still fill up on Friday nites. like a business sometimes up and sometimes down. We at Amat are not really sure where we will be until the first day of practice. So no predictions yet. LA seems like they are already hanging another D7 banner in their gym but with all your recruits the bullseye will be on you for a change. good luck.....it must feel good to rule the Sgv with recruiting. most of LA recruits do not reside in Hacienda Heights..go ask Cameron Kushnier how he can attend there to play Basketball when he lives in Walnut..football wise when it comes to the OC you will then come up short and then make excuses. Seanez, Maciel, Wagner, Mcbride and any others it does not matter we know where they came from and who they left to. I doubt if you guys would be the top dog with the Chen, Cheung, Wong and Nuygens that you should be playing with...Also why is it that Big Nick Longoria lives in the Nogales Shool district and attends LA......???........the school name should be Los Alternates.
not sure how far you want to go back but...
Cory DeSanti Washington St.
Dylan Aquino UCLA
then Biang...Macias...etc.
As a graduating senior, I am pissed at Coach Verti and the Amat coaches for causing this crap to happen. It is all their fault. They didnt treat us with respect. Players quit during the season. They didnt prepare us for games, especially ND. They gave up on that game the week before. There wasnt even a game plan. Congrats to Carlton for making it out, but that was due mostly to Carlton and his grades and DiFiori promoting him his junior year, not Verti. But what really pissed me off, is when Gaisie missed out on the Army game because Verti "forgot" to give him his invite. WOW!!! Real 1st class operation here. No other HS coach has to sell anybody on anything. Verti hasn't promoted any of his players to any colleges, even if colleges are inquiring. Just ask around. Wagner's older brother is an alum an was starting RB for Amat and hes still leaving. That says it all. As a player, if you cant change the situation you remove yourself from it. Good luck to Wagner and McBride.
THE RUMOR ABOUT MCBRIDE IS TRUE.
MATER DEI . . . MATER DEI!!!
Are any of the kids from the pop-warner team going to High School any time soon?
Where's bluorca???
"This just in ...
supposedly Marcus Wagner will join Bryce McBride at Los Altos. I will confirm this when the second semester starts at LA on Monday.
"
I heard the Wagner rumor before the McBride rumor.
Voice:
I'm not Aram, but...
"You know it and I know and everyone in the Valley knows that the Amat kids were contacted by other coaches from other schools."
Bitter, are we not?
It's funny how some people refuse to give kids and parents enough credit to make their own decisions.
Or maybe you have evidence otherwise. I'm certain the CIF office would be interested in seeing it.
"If I were the other schools in the LA division, I wouldn't be too happy to see those transfers there. OR maybe Gano sees that hit coming from CIF and would like to make a clean exodus. He is a smart guy and knows what is in-store. Especially with more rules from CIF being handed down concerning transfers."
Oh, please. Gano is pretty much on a first name basis with everyone at the CIF office by now, with as many transfers as he has had to have cleared over the years. There probably isn't a coach in the section who has been as scrutinized, and the only thing that has ever come of it was a forfeited preseason game because the departing assistant principal didn't turn in Daniel Drayton's paperwork on time. (And it was Los Altos who brought this to CIF's attention in the first place).
"Remember, the home grown talent at Los Altos is dwindling."
This is just ignorant. Have you even seen LA's freshmen this year? In the area, only South Hills has comperable athletes at that level.
"Look at their skill players from last year and tell me how many were there from freshman year."
Howing, Padilla, Foss, Rodriguez, Martinez, off the top of my head. (Seanez came in as a Soph IIRC).
"If I were a Los Altos player, I would be mad that my coach recruited outside talent."
Again, if you're so sure the coach is recruiting, then do your civic duty and report it.
"But I digress. Amat is fine."
If you really believed that, you wouldn't be so insecure about it, would you?
This just in ...
supposedly Marcus Wagner will join Bryce McBride at Los Altos. I will confirm this when the second semester starts at LA on Monday.
"Hey all u L.A. fans, besides Cody & Harwell, who else have you guys sent D-1?"
Brian Biang, ASU
Brandon Macias, ASU
Dominic Milano, somewhere I-AA... Buffalo I think
Sean Forge, Airforce
Bobby Godinez, Airforce, San Jose St.
Sean Cody, USC
Travis Parker, Georgia Tech
Brigham Harwell, UCLA
Daniel Drayton, OSU
Travis Brown, New Mexico
Chapelle Brown, Colorado
Not exactly a meager list in Gano's time. Especially considering the number of equally talented players that were not going to be recruited D1 no matter what their talent, due to being very undersized.
"valley411"
Short memory, or just selective???
Los Altos Conquerors
D1 players from recent memory
2005 - Cha'pelle Brown - University of Colorado (DB)
2003 - Travis Brown - University of New Mexico (WR)
2003 - Daniel Drayton - Oregon State University (DB)
1999 - Sean Forge - Air Force Academy (RB)
1999 - Bobby Godinez - Air Force Academy (DB)
1998 - Brandon Macias - Arizona State University (OL)
1997 - Brian Biang - Arizona State University (K)
I can list more if you wish, but you probably wouldn't "remember" those names either...
I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.
Dear TUFF-HOBBLED-AV,
After reading your post, I don't think you sold the idea of free public education to the masses. Perhaps another spokesperson who can spell would be a better representative or better yet, get a helmet that fits. I think you've taken a few too many shots to the head.
Oh yeah!
Aram,
You know it and I know and everyone in the Valley knows that the Amat kids were contacted by other coaches from other schools. They have friends in other schools that get their parents, coaches, lower level and Varsity, to call them up and pitch their school. Ask some of the Amat parents. Then, you have some Amat parents bad mouthing the school and taking it down as they leave to other schools.
Amat will be fine as long as the Athletic Director and other adminstrators have CIF look into the matter. You, as a reporter, should also look at the allegations. There's no excuse as a "homer" reporter. Look at SC right now with the Reggie Bush scandal. Hometown reporters, being journalists first, breaking the news.
Amat routinely sends kids to the schools. The kids qualify, they play early and often once in college. The track record is there from the past to the present.
If I were the other schools in the LA division, I wouldn't be too happy to see those transfers there. OR maybe Gano sees that hit coming from CIF and would like to make a clean exodus. He is a smart guy and knows what is in-store. Especially with more rules from CIF being handed down concerning transfers. Remember, the home grown talent at Los Altos is dwindling. Look at their skill players from last year and tell me how many were there from freshman year. If I were a Los Altos player, I would be mad that my coach recruited outside talent. But I digress.
Amat is fine. This season is promising. If you are not with us, you're against us. The players at the school will be playing with a chip on their shoulder and I wouldn't want to face this team. They will be out to prove the skeptics wrong.
Hey all u L.A. fans, besides Cody & Harwell, who else have you guys sent D-1? Sure you guys have had great teams, but i dont recall any of your other players going anywhere bigtime......
Aram, personally I wasn't shocked by any of this, this is exactly what I saw happening upon the hiring of ANY inexperienced coach at Amat, whether named Verti or not. I bet my proposal for Amat to join the Miramonte, or a super SGV themed sierra league doesn't seem so bad now, with the impending reality of joining Bosco Tech in thier league when the CIF alignments roll around at the conclusion of this coming season.
I hope Gano doesn't leave. Please don't go . . . please don't go . . . and schedule Amat and Mater Dei next year. Please.
Hey, Garay, Cogburn! If you guys want a shot at a CIF tittle and a full-ride at the next level, LA is your vehicle.
When's the update?
I hope Gano doesn't leave. Hey, Garay, Cogburn! If you guys want a shot at a CIF tittle and a full-ride at next level. go for it!
When's the update?
Is there any Baldwin Park fans out there? If so, can someone please let me know whats going on with the football stadium. I see that the light poles have been torn down and the bleachers being disassembled. Anyone have any info??
I know Mr. Garay personally, and there is no way he will be leaving So. El Monte. He believes in Mr. Escamilla and they team. They did something that no one thought they would be able to do this year with Joe Morales leaving and they accomplished alot. Mr. Garay knows this. As for Mr. Cogburn, you'll be seeing him in an Eagle uniform next year also. Don't doubt the SOUTH.
What about Charter Oak and any rumors? They have to replace A.J. and M.J. which seems impossible! You lose your best LB/FB and WR/DB. Anybody maybe transferring to replace them or do they have players that are going to fill in those positions? Which seniors are getting out this year too from C.O.? They always have at least a few players going someplace. Keep working hard boys and next year...
Yes, It is a sad day indeed for Amat football. Several players have left and more are leaving. Los Altos is not the only school benefiting from this however. Diamond Ranch is also gaining some of these players. I believe even Upland gained a lower level player or 2. We, however, cannot be upset with these players or their parents. The Bishop Amat program has emploded. Unfortunately, we all know this to be true and these families dont want to be caught up in the debris. Misdirected anger is not the solution to the problem. There are many "serious issues" involving the staff and treatment of players from what I have been told. I am trying to get the details. But if Amat has a double digit number of players on the way out, then the program needs to be gone thru with a fine tooth comb.
Players and their families making the decision to leave is not the issue. Its the events that lead to that decision that are the real story. Bishop may be the most recognized in the valley, but that is only by those of us in the valley. Unfortunately, that is where it stops these days, when we speak of football. Outside the valley, its not even a blip on the radar. Just go back to any FOX high school spotlight broadcast these past few seasons. That in and of itself is a problem.
Heard some more bad news tonight ...Joe Amat and MATMTWTBAG........6 Bishop Amat football players are checking out of Bishop Amat. And LA's "transfers" aren't part of the "6"!
Promised I wouldn't tell the names but it's going to hurt...Bad!
Bishop Amat's "supporters" and Coach Verti's "detractors" got what they deserved. With all the complaining and coach slamming they did all year long why would any player/parent want to continue at Amat.
This point was mentioned several times during the football season and it fell on deaf ears. That cannabalistic hate finally had consequences out of the complainers control. I know Coach Verti will still do his best to produce a winner but the writing is on the wall...Bishop Amat is a cancerous place.
Bragging about the "past" is fine and bragging about the "level" of competition is tolerable but Bishop Amat will have egg on it's face if Austin leaves as well. His dad's very loyal but if the ship doesn't stop hemmoraging soon Austin might be that last man standing. How utterly avoidable...couldn't Amat fans just give the Verti some slack?
Aram,
You're right football doesn't end. The time to prepare is in the offseason. That's when you hit the weight room improve your speed and get good grades.
They're having a sparq training combine this weekend a lot of kids from LA are attending.
Check it out!
http://www.sparqtraining.com/events/
Long Beach 3 combines this weekend.
Open to ALL highschool kids.
Aram maybe you should make it there this saturday.
Good stories for the bloggers.
I wonder if any other schools are attending?
If you prepared like LA! I hope 2 days are
enough notice.
Conquerors on a roll,
That's what I meant when I said,
"Unfortunately, we know the answer to that question-don't we?"
Unfortunately, you are probably right.

i just read the article on the tribune website and it sounds like one koffler is a hypocrit because he doesnt want to see his ex-coaches better their careers, suceed and try to make a name for theirselves, and also he is nervous that white might take his job, it seems he is trying to take the bill belichick approach of despising the coaches that leave him....but maybe it was the right choice by koffler because white is going to turn out to be a better coach than koffler and the job would of been his in a couple of years since everybody is getting bored of kofflers offense.....all i got to say to koffler is that you better hope white doesnt end up in the mission valley league or even somewhere in the division because he will show u up
News from Bonita:
George King the highly successful freshman football coach has just resigned due to broken down contract negotiations. Come on Podley, Pay the man what he is worth!
Bearcats forever!
hey aram im a player from south hills that you have seen anyways as of now there is no bishop kids at our school and i havnt hurd of any that will be coming....and who cares if they did y pay a crud load of money to go to a school when our school has basically the same education for free thanks aram oh yeaH ...!!
MBAG, surely you jest! Your saying LA is a nobody amongst who's who in SGV football? This is the year 2006 A.D., not 1986. Your not exactly cranking out Div 1 college prospects at a blue chip level any more. We're talking about kids making the move to actually get looked at. I've heard Amat people say talent is being wasted away on the bench. That's what most of you were crying about last year. They're not playing so an so, they're not playing my kid!
So these kids are considering bailing, to a school who can take them to the next level. Now have you ever heard of Shaun Cody? Brigham Harwell? I think USC and UCLA are well aware of the players coming out of the LA program.
These little darlings aren't going to Amat for the private school education. They are looking for a vehicle to get them to the next level. The kids also want to be in a program where they're having fun, playing, and winning. Amat just doesn't get it done like that anymore. Amat doesn't have the drawing power of Mater Dei, of Santa Margarita, of Notre Dame. You used to. I actually kind of miss those days. Say la vie~
opps sorry didn't mean to ping that twice
Greetings!
Anyone leaving on the staff at "Bagpiper U" yet?
Out!
Mike the Clone
Conqs.,
Kids and Parents doing what is best for them...let see a 10 game schedule at LA with a possibility of a title run..no gurantee there, vs a Private school education and playing for the SGV biggest name in football?.....but I see where you may be going here.....limelight against the D7 for these players and parents vs the tough challenge of the D1 Serra league. I can see their priorities....
MBAG and Joe Amat, the reason kids are leaving is because they want to be involved in a program that still competes for championships. They want to have fun while doing this, an experience Amat cannot provide them. Are you that blind? LA has a proud tradition, that still delivers. The kids and parents are doing what is best for them.
Garay and Cogburn are incredible players. And Escamilla is a quality coach. He has established a quality program despite the limited re$ource$ SEM has compared to LA, BA, SH, CO, and others. I hope they stay and bring SEM their first CIF title. The division the MV League play in has parity. SEM has a great chance with Escamilla and his incredible "two" to do that.
hopefully all those rumors about players coming to LA are true.....especially the two SEM players, with the system that is in place at LA those two would not only put up great numbers again, but also get recgonition and play on a winning team as well as have a GREAT chance to win a CIF championship
Bishop Amat is the valley's most recogniized football team. Their championships and NFL alumns prove that.
But Amat has a long problem of keeping a quality coach. Markham came and left, Paredes came and left, and Salter came and left. I'm not apart of Amat, but this outsider knows something is wrong. Mater Dei has Rollinson for years, St. Paul had Ancich as well, Loyola had Grady for over 20 years, and the list of Catholic schools goes on (SO Notre Dame and St. Bonny).
But Amat can't keep one. They are left with young coaches (younger than young man Aram) trying to restore once was a great program. They have incredible booster support, top media exposure, and quality facilities and equipment. Any coach would love these conditions. What would make a quality coach leave Amat with those conditions? Is it the pay? Is it the retirement package? Is it pressure being head coach at Amat? Is it the administration? My guess is the second question. I could be completely wrong. Heck I'm an outsider, I'm just guessing.
If Los Altos reaps the benifits of Amat's exodus, so be it. In todays high school football enviornment with instant media exposure, internet blogs, and cable TV, players and parents want the best exposure available. That's why most Amat players are at BA.
Los Altos best "recruitment" tools are winning and stability. DeSpain established those with 7 CIF titles and around 30 years as head coach for the Conquerors. Gano has continued that tradition. Why would he leave? LA has everything and more that BA.
Cogburn, Garey the entire team should look around why would they want to play at a school that has no coaches. Especially Cogburn and Garey they have so much talent it is such a waste for either one of them to be at SEM.
LA "has" to settle for others "scraps". The only new families/students coming into their area are all asian.
How about this; we'll trade ya three varsity golfers, and five badminton players for a RB, or QB.
MATMTWTBAG ,
Unfortunately, we know the answer to that question-don't we?
Aram when you talk to Verti about who has checked out and signed with the Yankees (good one by the way)LA. please ask who has checked in. Another rumor is Amat may be getting players as well. I know dates of checking in and checking out are different with Private and Public but I dont think it would hurt to ask. I am of the same opinion, what is up with LA and why they get a flock of players every year?..Are the lunches bigger? The cheerleaders better looking? or is it easier to fix grades there to get you into a college?...
Gano's a proven recruiter - ULV would be lucky to have him. :)
