HOOPS PLAYOFFS ... this week

Can Damien shake last Thursday's disaster?
BOYS HOOPS: Uh, how's your confidence in area boys hoops? I won't lie, mine isn't high. I hope I'm wrong. The season was very entertaining, but that was SGV on SGV. Once our boys step into competition against the outside world, i.e. those who don't know what it's like to have an Alfredo's just around every corner, it could be scary. Damien has been No. 1 in the area for quite some time and even though Sparty lost to G-Dora, I still think they represent the area's best chance at making a run.
GIRLS HOOPS: The Amat Chicas of La Puente, as always, will have all eyes on them. I hope the Amat faithfful have plans to get involved and support this team early. The new division should see Amat in major battles starting in the second round. You Golden A supporters can't just plan to catch up with the team at The Pyramid, because that might be too late. Covina and Diamond Ranch have had tremendous regular seasons and should make big noise in their respective divisions. C-Town has a nice Saturday nite home game coming up. Hopefully, the Rowdy Rooters show up in force. Also, don't forget about Sierra Vista. The Dons have a first round bye in their division and could make a little run before it's all said and done.
REQUEST: Get to a game!!!!!! Basketball gyms can be a crazy place when packed. And that could create a nice homecourt advantage for some of the SGV fans. There's nothing like a playoff game in a packed gym. Good crowd support could be the difference between some of our teams pulling an off an upset, or not.

Credo lvr,
Maybe your reading comprehension is a little low - but, sadly, we agree.
You don't repeat what someone says, and then call them "a pinhead" because that would mean that you are...well, you know!:?)
As Aram says, "Go amat chicas!"

Those days are long gone pinhead! Right along with your storied football success. Go cheer your girls on this week, if you truly are a supporter of the school. Or go cry to MBAG and Bluorca about the classic nosedive your about to take this year. What a farce you've become!

Amazing,
Thanks for the compliment. "...they aren't very good ..." was being charitable to the boys with the "little yellow a".
You mean to tell me that you aren't impressed with our 13 victories over powers like Rosemead, Sierra Vista, Salesian, and our split with Bassett? With only 2 wins over teams with winning records (and scoring in the low 40's in each of those) I wonder how we are going to keep our 1 decent player (a freshmen from Glendora).
It makes me long for the days when I would hear about the team testing their game against the likes of Jordan Farmar of the Lakers, Chase Budinger who is one of the best college freshman in the country, and Tony Dandridge - ESPN's human highlight film. Playing non-league games against ranked teams like Muir, La Canada, Glendora, Cajon, CrawfordPoway, La Costa Canyon, tournaments like the Tournament of Champions and events like the Dream Classic are things players and fans look forward to. Now - just another team playing bad, boring basketball against bad teams.
Best of luck to all those still playing in the valley. There are some good players around that are fun to watch. It used to be nice for us when they gravitated to the good program that we used to have. Isn't Amat's 2002 CIF Championship the last boys basketball title in the valley.
Alas those days are long gone !:(
Now we can watch others in the valley succeed. Good luck!

Stop bitchin', it was a good article.....It didn't talk about how great Glendora is or anything just about a tough season culminating in a CIF birth...

Spread the wealth,
I knew there'd be a comment just like yours. I called San Dimas' coach and Rowland's coach and my calls went to voicemail. I called LeDuc, and he picked right up. But none of that matters, does it? I have two whole days to work with for coverage leading up to the playoffs. Quit spazzing out because Day 1 of three didn't "spread the wealth."

It's amazing that in your boys article that Glendora still gets the majority of the press when they are a wild card. How about talking about other teams that won their league or are hosting playoff games and had much better seasons than Glendora has had this year. And what's an article without mentioning Bishop Amat? Even though they are young, they aren't very good. Damien, Rowland, South Hills, La Puente, Workman, San Dimas, Northview and many others all deserve some ink because of their successful seasons. Spread the wealth.

Arroyo plays Garden Grove on Wednesday night. If they win, they will have to travel all the way to San Juan Capistrano to play the #1 seed in St. Margaret's. Good Luck Knights!
