It's just about that time ...

Keith Nyeholt (right) is a returning All-Area outfielder for Charter Oak.

Who do you like? Opening Trib baseball Top 10 coming this Thursday w/article.

Why the attention to a Div 5 group of recruited wannabe studs. The same goes for Amat that they say about EVERYONE else, "STEP UP AND PLAY THE BIG BOYS AND THEN WE'LL TALK!"

You Amat boys have short memeories. Same as in football, you talk the talk but can not walk the walk.

Div 5 means everyone in the Valley is playing UP and Amat is playing DOWN and bitching and bragging at the same time....IT'S OVER!

Amat sucks. 66% going to four year colleges....Mater Dei, Loyola, Servite, St. Francis, Notre Dame, Damien, Crespi, J Serra and St, John Bosco blow you out of the water academically. As far as private schools go BA doesn't cut it anymore. Except the braniacs that visit this blog,as you can tell.

So Payton, are you saying that you are a fair whether fan as well or are you just bitching at the "dynasty" assembled that your son currently plays at? Way to support your TEAM!

As a "fair weather fan", I explained my son had a positive experience playing at Amat, sorry you missed that part.

Please speak of all those "big fish, legitimate players" that got away from Amat? I would like to follow their professional baseball careers.

MATMT, Amat is rallying around the Arsenal program. Are you from Bishop? Because if you are, than you have seen what I have seen.

Last year at the end of the baseball season and this past winter, the Amat baseball team played as a group under the name BOMBERS coached by Herrera. They even went to the J.O.'s as the BOMBERS, so how can you say they are rallying around the Arsenal program? And, maybe they should, much better organization.

Yes, Coach Roddy is dearly missed...GO LANCERS!

WHo is Joe Amat?

WC, is that why you left Amat.........fair weather fan is what we call guys like you...

Payton...
They are 2 different people, Coach Contreras and Coach Roddy. I was simply trying to explain that when my son played there 2 years ago, Coach Roddy was the coach, not Contreras, so thats why I said Amat needs to thank him. He has alot of respect from those parents and players that are in the junior and sophmore classes at Amat.
Also, why the bashing of Contreras? If you are willing to bash him, than have some knowledge of his baseball past! Don't ask if he ever played.
If you have an issue with the guy, be a man and confront him. Don't hide behind a blog!!

Is Roddy Contreras?

From the looks of Contreras he looks like he has never played the game of baseball. Maybe was a umpire but that would not surprise me by his weight..looks like he has been cleaning lots of plates and they are not on the diamond....He contreras will forever be known as the fat ass coach that pipeline a sorry as Duke unit into Amat and let some big fish REAL PLAYERS get away just to prop his own agenda. That so called wannabe coach Contreras is no where to be found now that he screwed up a Baseball tradition School in Amat...D5 is rediculous for a School that was a legitimate powerhouse at one time.

Oh Good Lord - everyone needs to get a life

Are all of these threads some sort of joke? These are not really the fathers and coaches of our future generation are they? These threads are posted by kids during lab time at school arent they? They are laughing at the results right? Please people Step up Be EXAMPLES We have alot to fear if they follow in these examples Amat Lancers stay out of this nonsense But wait thats part of the joke too True Lancers are above this

I am a transplanted Lancer after one year. My son played at Bishop 2 years ago for the freshman baseball team. I can say, that as a father of a player who did not play, he had a wonderful experience playing for Coach Roddy. He taught him alot about the game and about life.
So, payton, if anybody should be thanked for the talent there now, Thank Roddy and don't any of you talk crap about him. Many of us really appreciate what he did and doing it while he had a son at another school.
Why did Amat let him go? Can anyone tell me if he is coaching?

Lets thank that Little League Travel coach of the Dukes Fat Ass Contreras for assembling this D5 dynasty that Amat has now...hope everyone is happy.

Hey Bishop Amat not bad for a D5 baseball school. Your USC coach is looking like a flat out genius and your AD is even looking better.

Fall from grace continues...couldn't happen to a beter crowd...oh wait Nieto and Co. are undefeated! I thought they were falling?

crying in covina......mendrun is playing baseball

The fall from grace continues. What needs to be done to reverse the trend. Losing good people, scheduling down...no vision.

The downsizing has been happening in boys basketball as well. Amat used to play a high level of competition in non-league games and events like the Tournament of Champions and the Martin Luther King Dream Classic against teams like Cajon, La Costa Canyon, Carlsbad, Crawford, Poway, Taft, San Marcos, and locals like Rancho Cucomonga, Muir, and Glendora. They have faced players like Jordan Farmar of the Lakers and outstanding college players like Tony Dandridge and Chase Budinger. Not to mention successful runs in the playoffs against some super teams and players.

Now they play in tournaments at El Rancho and Calvary Chapel against a bunch of low division teams and get wins against teams like Rosemead, Bellflower, CalHi, and Sierra Vista, and a SPLIT with Bassett. What will these players have to talk about in 10 years?

Are wins like that worth it?

We have been playing travel ball since the boy was eight, all over the states blah blah blah etc. and i have only one thing to say, the arsenal is a heck of alot better than the dukes or the bombers. I tip my hat to the coaches and the players of that group, they flat out play the game of baseball correctly. P.S. I wouldnt exactly say it has been fun getting our asses kicked throughout the years by your team, but it certainly has made my son a better baseball player.

On other message boards I post as sgvbaseball. I coach the SGV Arsenal I am public about that.
I first want to clear the sgv baseball on this blog is not me. I am an Amat grad of '85. First, Amat has no say of what division they were being put in. I knew of the league changes over a year ago. The coaches at Amat are not thrilled about being in D5 but it not thier choice. You can not dwell on what is out of your control. Amat was in D4 when they won thier national title a few years ago.

I think energy be best used to support and root for the program and players. If certian players are not starting/playing the need to look at themselves and figure out why not. This goes for any team.

Now for Amat rallying around the Arsenal program. I think you have it mistaken. We have an open tryout for anyone to attend. We had 85 15U and 16U players show up. Some Amat kids made it, some didn't. We have about 85 players in the program and from about 35 high schools. Of the 85 players in our program only 5 go to Amat. We currently have no Amat players in any our older teams.

MATMT

Your are right on about Contreras, plus the fat ass doesn't know shit about basball, just thinks he does! Now, Amat is rallying around the Arsenal program.

I think Andy needs to put that to bed also, or you'll have a Duke situation all over again!

SGV Baseball,

You dont get it? even with that the case of knowing they were going D5 WHAT are they doing there? Geeze could they have not dropped down so much...what a embarrassment to our baseball program...our boys are better than that!...but some parents will settle for that if it means wins and a no.1 spot in the local fish wrap. I am devoted to the alma matter as much as anyone but our boys atletics are hitting a all time low right now and changes need to be made. From Fat ass Contreras Duke BS to letting Difiori leave to letting Ms. Wiard go to CO...that place is in shambles not to mention once loyal parents turning their backs on us to go elsewhere because of all this...it all starts at the top and changes need to be made....We dont make the playoffs in football this year we are deep shi-. What is differance of playing in the serra in football...Playing pac5 top teams and leaving those teams to form the trinity. What is baseballs excuse...again Manzo is a Idiot....get rid of him...let Mr. Wiard take over as AD..he gets results as you can see.

Hey Sierra League: I guess no mendrun this year,he probably doesnt want to risk injury being such a good qb. What a shame for the umpires to decide such a great game. Both pitchers doing great, good defense on both sides. It would have been nice if the ninety year old base umpire would have run or even walked away from first base and tried to see where the ball was, (it was under the fence and should have been ruled a ground rule double). Nevertheless congrats Damien on a hard won victory.

MATMTWTBAG,
I'm surprised by your response. You usually know your facts before you post on the message board. Bishop Amat knew they were moving down to Division V when Nieto was still at USC and Kendrena was coaching at Amat. It had to do with Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, St. John Bosco, and Servite leaving the Serra League and forming their own league (Trinity). They didn't want to come to the so called ghetto to play the Lancers.

Well if they are D5 what a shame but Manzo did this to make Nieto look good in his first go around as coach. He did not want to make the new hire look bad as well as himself for hiring Nieto. Coach Kendrena played the big boys. Nieto is playing lower competion to save Manzo Ass..........what is Amat trying to proved or what do they stand to gain playing down like that.....you might as well set them up to play Big League Dreams this weekend...I thought they were still playing the top teams of D1.......what a crock.........sounds like a over glorified coach with a travel team....set up a game with the Arsenal why dont you......Manzo I cannot believe you agreed to this embarassment.

That is bad for a team that was once no.1 in the nation to be playing down at D5..AD Manzo is a idiot..what is a School like Amat going to prove playing there. They have talent to compete a little higher than that given their reputation...lets hope this is not a trend setter for football where we will be playing in the D7 San Antonio league in football...........both Manzo and Carroll have to go...they are turning our sports program into a Mess....

Lancer for Life. Let me get this straight, Amat is soooooooo talented they don't even need a coach?

Great. What next. No teachers!

Division 5? Weren't you once #1 in the Nation?

Fresca, We aren't hiding you "Kiss Ass"! Sometimes you can't reveal who you are because it would hurt your chances of your kids playing time. Something you probably don't know about because your kid never started on ay team he's ever played for. I've never even heard of a Frescas playing at Amat. If your a freshman parent than Shut Up!
Kendrena brought the talent to Amat and they are leaving because of Nieto. If Nieto wins it's because of the talent that we still have here. This team is talented enough to win without a coach. It does help that our Damn A.D. accepted division 5 for us. Nieto should get the hell out of the way and they will win.
Frescas quit posting comments and go wash coach Nieto's car or something.

Wow! I thought we at it bad here at SH. My son played with most of the kids at Amat growing up and most of them are studs. Maverick is probably the best player in the Valley. Reyes is one of the smoothest fielding shortstops around. Mistone is also a stud. Fox straight out rakes. He might have the best stroke in the Valley. Seymour is a gamer. Munoz is a hard worker who is finally getting his chance. Eusebio is a quiet kid who will come through this year. My son played with Torres and Zuniga in Arkansas this summer. It's a shame Torres is not catching on Varsity. Zuniga pitched lights out in Arkansas. Bergara will be a good one. You guys have a great team. Be proud of your team.

Where is Eric Slattery?...very good Baseball player....where is Andrew Stensrud?...I here Stensrud is tearing it up over at Diamond Ranch.....this is what we are talking about with Amat...they want the best and they want championships but they are not going out getting / keeping and playing the best.

Frescas your right,

jury is still out on the team and I totally wish them the best of luck this season but if what I am hearing here is correct then yes you do have some great players in that lineup with Maverick and fox but also what it is saying to me is you still do not have the best plers on the feild at the same time not mention you dont have the best players on campus playing for you...makes things a hell of allot easier for the above mentioned studs if your team is complete and well rounded...The catcher spot is the cornerstone to the team and games can be lost due to not having solid defender back there that also carries a decent stick......but you play with what you have and hope for the best but by all right Bishop Amat should always look and have the best out their and not settle for anything less.

Where's Jr. Tamayo with baseball? why cant he play catcher?...If Frank Lopez is not starting there has got to be some favortism going on with that team...go get that Pacheco kid out of the weight room and get his ass behind the plate..He still goes to Amat I know his dad.

To all those parents that like to talk and gossip sit down SHUT UP watch the rest of the season and keep paying your tuition. This isn't little league anymore your not guaranteed your 3 innings. All you people who hide behind your screen name are a joke. My name is Davey Frescas. Bishop Amat is lucky to have Andy Nieto Coach Milan and Coach Beck. Its obvious you know nothing about baseball. Maybe because your one of those parents who are in denial and like to make excuses for your kids. If your kid can't play he can't play try band or another sport. But either way I'm sure you would still make excuses. Maverick is the stud on the team without a doubt. Fox is an awesome hitter. Brady Zuniga is a man amongst boys Ive seen him shut down the best, including college teams. I wish nothing but the best for this years baseball team. So should you.

Pacheco most likely transferred out of Amat. That is one kid that can hit a baseball. I coached him in Travel and he has a natural hitters swing. He may be playing for Walnut or WC...Good solid....He could have been a Contreras Cast Away....what a SHAME AMAT.

Looking for a catcher I understand there is a Junior Catcher / pitcher named Pacheco who is 5'10 200lbs that goes to Amat........where the heck is he>?....My kid played Travel ball with him with the So Cal Bombers and the SGV Hurricanes....He has caught Tommy Reyes, Icky Torres and Brian Seymore before...

I don't understand why Coach is using that catcher when Phillips is clearly a better all around player. His arm is incredible and his on base percentage is off the charts! I know his arm is tatooed and that might not reflect well on the overall image of the team but the fact is he's better than the starter is. I won't name names but #99 is a loser. His Dad is a major ass contributor but hey it's about winning and that kid just plain SUCKS!

Second base is okay but I hear the freshman left fielder is really playing out of position. I coached him in Pony league and he hit 24 HRS in winter ball. His brothers were studs as well but transfered out of school and the coaches are still hot about it and won't play him at second anymore.

That kind of vindictiveness has no place at our school! Maybe if Coach knew the real story about how Dave Matthews came to help with the JV team he might bring him in to be the closer. His fastball has a lot of movement and is in the low 90's consistently.

Rememeber the TEAM comes first!

Who the hell is the Freshman catcher at Amat? I hope your not talking about Buddy. Bonilla should be starting.
Zuniga is not the hardest thrower at Amat. He's gotten roped when facing good hitting teams. That's "when" he throws a strike. I think he's related to someone in the coaching staff. That would explain why he never sat down during winter ball.
"Nieto, Play your best nine and play to win. Don't worry about the parents that have money and may stop their contributions or field maintenance. Lenhart came to one game, but yet he starts. Lopez should be in left but wait his Dad doesn't give physicals, work on your fields, or pour concrete on game days."

If amat is looking for a catcher, why don't they look at the freshman catcher? He is better than all of them. Age has nothing to do with talent!

What's up with Amat's uniforms! Would you go to 'SC and change their colors? No! Amat is about tradition too, Andy. Changing the uniforms was unnecessary. With regards to the 'tip of the iceberg',Joe Amat, I agree. Amat needs to become the Amat of old - a powerhouse (in baseball AND football) and HONORABLE. So far Nieto has talked the talk but failed to deliver. Come on, Andy, step up and use all of your talent - not just the talent that comes with new batting cages and 24/7 field maintenance.

Torres is still playing for Amat

Preciado over Bonilla....joke! Why not use Torres or Delira?....wait you can't Nieto, they transfered cause you ran them out of town! Get ready Lancer fans, just the tip of the "iceberg".

Preciado started the first game at catcher. Maverick threw 4 2/3 and Eusebio threw 1 1/3 Amat wins 5-1. Lopez didn't get into today. A Sophomore Nick Lenhart started in LF

i heard that preciado is starting over bonilla this season as catcher

Joe Amat,

Who is going to be the starting Catcher..Presicado or Bonilla?.....I also hear Frank Lopez is one heck of an athlete and Brian Seymore can hit the snot out of the ball......

good luck to all the valley teams, especially our boys over at shhs. bring home another san antonio league title!!!! smitty has some more good players coming thru the system. they'll be young, but full of fight!

Baseball Guru

Your pretty right on! Nobody is fooled over here at Glendora. Henly needs to go!

Now, his buddy from the ex-principal days has placed his kid on varsity as a Freshman and he is a below average player.

This clown over here hasn't won since the Roemer/Morrison years!

Glendora has not had a good season in many years. They are a program that is more intrested in booster money and cronyism, like who the coach is buddies with or coaches with,i.e R.W (one for twenty) .050 batting average playing over more talented people like andrew newman & phillip cecil who is a catcher but good hitter and decent 3rd baseman. I guarantee you he wouldnt go 1 for 20. another 3-15 in the tough sierra is what I predict. Wes roemer is the only reason they were good three or four years ago.I watched the intramural game the other day and they looked pathetic. The coach must have somebody in his pocket to continue coaching there. They wont suprise anybody this year, they will win about ten games like they do every year.

GT

When was the last winning season?

Tommy Reyes will not throw for Amat this year. He is coming off arm problems and probably won't play in the Glendora Tournament. Don't feel sorry for Amat though, they have 3 very good arms ready to chew up a lot of innings this year. The Lancers will be led by lefty Maverick Olivares. Maverick already committed to UC Irvine as both a outfielder and pitcher. I hear Senior Chris Eusebio looked good throughout the Fall and winter seasons. Big things are expected from newcomer Sophomore Brady Zuniga. Apparently he throws the hardest on the team. The infield should be solid with Jordan Fox, Sergio Munoz, Andrew Mistone and Reyes playing 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS. They are very good defensively. A lot of guys are battling for the last outfield spot with Olivares and Eusebio playing outfield when they are not pitching. They look like a scary tem

Watch out for Glendora.I haven't heard a thing about them from anyone. It is considered "rebuilding" but they are going to surprise some people with some good pitching.

Huskie Dad,

Rest assure that "plenty of other coaches" are not up to the same thing. Just because VERY FEW coaches make the mistake of getting involved with their athletes/students, don't assume all do. There are plenty of coaches out there that value their positions and do their best to respect the job they have been given.
With that said, I too hope that Andrew Barnes receives just punishment. There are certain lines that you just don't cross, ever!

If you are talking the single best player in the SGV then Tyler Pill deserves some pub. His brother was a key player in their national championship run and this kid is the real deal. Persati from Damien played with my boy on the cal rockies travel team and you could tell even when he was 13 or 14 that he was and would be a big time talent. Amazingly I think both of these kids are only juniors! Play Ball.

Watch out for Pertusatti, Dworak, and Mendrun for the Damien Spartans. They will put up a bunch of runs but pitching may be suspect.

Chino has lost its talent from last year, but with Simmons alone they can be a threat for the league title.

Diamond Bar should be the only threat to Damien because of Brown's speed and Jimenez's glove/pitching.

Does anyone know about the track coach from South Hills High School that was messing with my daughters friends? I knew that guy was up to something just like plenty of the other coaches around this area. Andrew Barnes I hope you get the maximum sentence and Thank you to the Tribune for reporting the story. Aram could you start a new topic for this? I want to hear what the Bloggers have to say.

Thank You

danny pertusati

hes play SS this yr

Who was the Soph outfielder that made First Team All Sierra League from Damien last year?

what about maverick from amat, is he still pitching? hows their team looking htis year with the new coach

what about maverick from amat, is he still pitching? hows their team looking htis year with the new coach

Look out for the best player in the sierra league and maybe the valley to be Darren Dworak of Damien, a stud junior who started every game on varsity as a sophmore. This kid is the real deal!!!

Andrew Melchor will be huge for Nogales this year as a Sophmore pitcher. Cassels over at Walnut is a player to watch. Tommy Reyes is a junior pitcher for Bishop Amat this year that is going to make an impact...

Northview will be strong this year. Baldwin Park has a pretty good team also. It will be interesting to see how the VVL turns out..

Northview has an exciting team this year. Come out and see for yourself.

hell yeah, we put 'em out there baby!

Crispen Tarango is the starting ss at Santa Ana College and having a good freshmen year batting in the 5 position. Perhaps Tarango will be another brahma player to end up at CSF. This year p Paul Canedo and 1b Jake Vasquez are on the team with Vasquez starting. Former players to have played at CSF include coach Richard Gonzales,of's Spencer Oborn,Danny Dorn,1b Felipe Garcia,p Dustin Miller.

Well, Tarango graduated in 2006.....so.....

I have been liking the way Diamond Bar has been looking thus far.....Should be solid in the bullpen with Gary Brown and Tarango returning. I would put the Brahmas at about #3 coming in.
