Amat still unbeaten after thriller in Glendora ...

The Lancers appear headed toward another Glendora Tourney title.
From the sounds of it, Amat and G-High played a classic on Wednesday night. Coach Nieto did a little gambling and it paid off. I think G-High having a shot to win this game says the Tartans might be better than expected. Don't know what that's worth, but hey. DaSpoon, who covered the game for us, said it was a nice-sized crowd. Interesting ...

DIVISION FIVE YOU WHINEY CHUMPS!!!
If you're still the best in the Valley that means this Valley ain't happening like you'd like to think.
Come on back to Division 1 where you belong.
Division 5 in wreslting?!!!
Seems like only the women who wear the blue and gold got game.
Hey Swansong,
Again refusal to state where you come from shows how embarrassed you are of your alumni. Just come in and bash the Golden A is all you got. I think the spicket just opened up and you need to go reload with another stick with dangling string attached. talk about eyes your are still permanently shut from another body fluid go figure............if you are from Damien then that makes sense Gloria Swanson Drag Queen...Sorry your school of choice did not vote you in for Homecoming Queen....BOOYA!
WEAK!
One bodily fluid joke was cool...But then you ruined it by trying it again in the very next post...2x!
Your DOUBLE DOH is negated due to lack of creativity and slow thought process.
We understand that you are bursting at your seams with a certain bodily fluid because the preferred method of relieving ones self requires actual interaction with a person that actually finds you attractive but common now...You are starting to sound pretty pathetic. Now be nice and put that Lilliputian thing away.
Where did you say you attended/attending school?
And do not lie and claim Damien. A true Damien alumni/student would have claimed their school already.
Mikey O'Drunkard I'll forgive you because obviously you've started your St. Paddy's Day festivities a little early. Is it "everyone hates/loves a winner"? You seem kind of confused on that one, lol.
By the way wipe your chin. That's not Red Kilian's your drinking.
Drink up buddy when you wake up Amat might have gotten their act together and won a Div 5 Football Championship! Sorry if I got you in the eye!
Go Lancers.
DOUBLE DOH!!!
DOH!
Hey Swanson burger,
Everyone hates a winner, especially one with tradition...all you hater just cannot get over we are the King of the SGV, .... and then you do not even put down what school you rep. You are right everyone loves a winner and thats where our alumni parents and boosters support our Lancer teams thru thick and thin...Plus we get you bandwagoners that come and pay money to see our winning tradition teams in a great year or a down year...I see you guys turn out in the bunches at our footballs games....So until whatever school you come from can knock us off then come in here and run your smack...as far as Napkins... I hear a feminem one calling your name right now..
Mike O Riley
Let me get this straight. I jealous because you are the most hated team and school in the SGV?
No wonder. I must have missed something. And the expression goes, "EVERYONE LOVES A WINNER". Do you guys ever crack a book at Bishop Amat? lol
That's called the money shot...here's a napkin!
Gloria Swanson tv dinner,
you sound bitter that Amat fans and teams are the most hated around the SGV, but for a reason...NOBODY LIKES A WINNER.....we are a sports school and it has a history of great acheievments in atletics. There are the doubters and bashers but it amazes me how many kids come to Amat from far away....Hear the intros at one of our girls basketball games...Candice Brown is from Moreno Valley and they have lots of girls from the Chino and Chino Hills area not to mention a freshman girl coming from as far away as Riverside....we could be all that bad of a school. Our Boosters are the best boosters in the SGV......To the left and to the right Amat kicks ass day and night!
Bluorca know the difference between envious and disgust. respect and arrogance, belittement and compliment, Wooden's UCLA Championship Dynasty and the Miami Hurricane Dynasty, having class and being classles. Loyola and Bishop Amat.Damien and Bishop Amat, Crespi and Bishop Amat, Santa Margarita and Bishop Amat. Why brag when EVERYTHING you do is to be number one...for four years!!! when everyone of your peers is interested in L.I.F.E.
Instead of bragging about being the best in the Valley understand that the Valley you so covet is made up of only one other Catholic School.
Div 5 is great but not for self appaulding blow hards. Hope you win everything just so you can continue to overstate your case. Compliment others instead of pretending everyone hates you. You're like that over the hill sex kitten who doesn't understand she's not relevant anymore. "Mr. De Mille ...I'm ready for my closeup!"
I honestly do not see what the big deal is here. I mean, BOTH teams compete on the SAME field. It's not like the field magically changes for each team and adjusts according to whose at bat. Same field = Same opportunities. Like the Mighty one stated, adjustments are the main key in any sport. You can spend all day bitching about the relationship between statistics and fields but the truth is that there is only one field that both teams play on. Home field advantage is much more than just playing at home in front of a home crowd. The key word here is...."field"
Some people absolutely hate to see Amat do well in any sport. They will stop at nothing to minimize the achievements of the Lancer students and athletes. They are burning inside because our baseball and our basketball chicas are doing well not to mention our CIF Champion Wrestling team. And our football team proved that they could beat anyone in the valley despite all their hurdles.
I guess if I was an outsider looking up at Amat, I too would be envious. Which is why we must forgive them and their attempts to belittle the Royal Blue and Gold.
Damien and Right on,
I guess you feel playing on a Pony field you get ripped off....well again you miss the point of adjustments..key word being adjustments...Teams and coaches make adjustment to the surrounding they play in. The Celtics of the 80's had a advantage knowing that old Parque floor in the old Boston Garden. Knew all the dead spot and knew which way the ball would bounce in certain areas. Well Magic and the lakers adjusted to the floor and went on to win Championships over that team. The perameters of the diamond I agree suit pont but it is not so far fetched for HS to play on or CIF would not allow it or Coaches and AD would not agree with it going to Henderson. It comes down to may the best team win....who adjust better....pop flys as homeruns? Great it works both ways for both teams.......also the old saying of teams that can play better in the cold and the rain...this past Superbowl...Chicago is a cold weather team and plays outdoors. The Colts play in that Dome with climate controlled. Well if you remember it was pouring and the Colts won the game...ADJUSTMENTS!......You guys sound like little leaguers looking for a excuse on why your team loss or look for someone / something to blame for a poor outing.......does that mean a boxer should blame the size of a ring or the size of his glove on how he got knocked out...you boys may know your dimensions on ball fields but know nothing about how to adjust to your surroundings that are given to you.......
Matmt
GO do your homework at the fields of Damien, Claremont, Bonita, Charter Oak, LA, San Dimas, Covina, Northview ect.
Then report back to us on dimensions. For example 408 to Center at Damien, now thats not much bigger than Henderson! LOL
Stick to football, you know nothing about the game of BB.
MAT from AMAT
It pretty apparent you just don't understand the game of baseball or why fields are designed a certain way and for what age groups!
SHHS and Lets get real!
Your exactly right, I was at the games and pop flys that are outs are not HOME RUNS in most parks in the SGV. What a joke to see outs turn into runs.
SHHS,
We are talking a HS game here not MLB.....A Pony field I am sure both teams can adjust to. The dimensions of a Pony field are not that far off from a HS field. You being from SHHS should talk, take a look at your Girls softball field. Now that has homerun derby written all over it. Looks like a Shetland / T-BALL field....Stop making excuses for playing on a Pony field. It is not the fault of the field if your pitcher is giving up meat high in the strike zone. You play the course and adjust by keeping the ball down to get ground outs and try to keep the ball in the park....even on a pony field I have not seen too many guys hit it out that often. Get a better excuse pal.
Good point shhs, those games at the pony field burn me up,that is a good point why not just let mlb players play on a LL field. It changes so much about the game to play on a field that is what 286 or 296 down the line? That is a pop up for these great hitters from amat,nv,bonita et.al
amat's j.v. team could hang with most teams varsity and amat vs south hills would be a great game but south hills wuas in a much weaker team tourney and fake of the matter i think a certain paper put it best for south hills cadialliac team with pontiac results
MAT
I cannot believe that comment from you! Maybe you don't understand the reason why the game is set up on certain fields. With your thought process, I guess we could put MLB on a little league field!
Why does Pony field make a differance?....it works both ways for both teams....homerun derby for both teams.......man up and play the course in front of you.....you have to still score runs.....would it be any different if they played in Dodger Stadium?.....you hit, pitch, make errors, steal bases and execute the same. It is the final score that counts......You could put them on a Bronco Pony field and the score would be 32-25 but someone will win and someone will lose.
THE WHOLE COMPLEXITY OF THE GAME CHANGES WHEN YOU GET TEAMS OFF A PONY FIELD.
Hats off to both teams for starting the season on a great note...but Amat didn't tear up the Glendora Tournament by any means...They beat Glendora in the 7th, beat Northview 6-2, but would be a 3-2 game minus the 285 foot homerun to center and beat CV on a dropped flyball. No discredit to Amat, they won a good tournament, but their are some valley teams right there with them. As for South Hills, hard to compare because they didn't play the good teams from our area. Once again, credit to both teams.
J-Rod,
Depends who starts. De La Fuente vs. Olivares would be an insane matchup.
Right now straight up South Hills would beat Amat in baseball.
Amat was moved down by CIF because of the Catholic Schools leagues. The old league realligned and Amat was out with no where to go and they could not join another league comprised of non private schools. D-5 is where they were put, maybe Manzo could have worked harder at getting them to stay in the league they were in. The same thing happened with Football. The old league pushed them out because of the drive out of Orange County and the cost factor of transportation, that is what they cited at the time. Football stayed in D-1 because of some help from Loyola, CIF wanted to move them down to D-3 with Notre Dame and Crespi but Loyola and Amat hung together to get the other two teams to come up. The same went for the Softball team, they had to move down also because of the OC schools. They should have done what St. Lucy's and Damien did, they got out of the Catholic School League a long time ago.
As for the comment about getting waxed in D1 baseball. 2 years ago they went to the semi finals and last year they lost to Lakewood in a great game. If your looking to kick Amat Baseball in the chops, the kicking is unjust. Remember the back to back nNational Championship teams, what division where they in?? D-3
Amat Softball on the other hand is struggling and there is no reason for it. They have some very good players on the team and they are not being utilized correctly. There is a lot of crying for playing time by parents of mediocre JV players at best and it is keeping the top players from performing. The same old thing with Amat Softball, some spoiled little girls getting there way. The coach needs to put his foot down and cut a few of these players to make a statement. They have the talent to win a lot of games, but the coaching staff is clouded by their own personnel friendships with certain players and their inability to make a good decision and stand by it.
What does that say about the San Gabriel Valley?
Regardless of league or division, I think it's pretty clear that Amat is the best team in the Valley. I stand by the No. 1 ranking, but I think there are some teams out there that will only get better.
why dont all u amat haters shut up and go game cresenta valley legit div 1 rubidouz legit div 1 and if d bar wants a agme tell them to schedule it amat doesn't duck anyone cif put them in div V go bitch to cif not the newspaper
Bishop Amat wom the Serra league last year (which included Mater Dei and Servite among others)and lost 3-1 in the second round of CIF Division 1 to eventual champion Lakewood. I would not call this getting waxed.
Amat will blow by their league. with that D5 hanging over their storied franchise head.. they should run away from the pack without a problem. Playoffs will be the true story....I would have like to see them play in there with SH and West Covina...form a league with those 3 teams and add Nogales Glendora and Diamond Ranch. That would have been a competitive league schedule for all of those Schools....they should do the same with Football but pull out Nogales and insert Los Altos.
Instead of bitching about Div 5 go back and look at Amat's record when they were move up briefly. THEY GOT WAXED !!!!!!
Maybe others can recall the juicy details.
Wax on wax off
It sounds like Joe Amat is the villian du jour, but when did he say anything negative about the baseball team? After the anti-Verti stance I remember being surprised that he said that Nieto was a good hire. He was also sticking up for their D5 placement in another post. Maybe things to be pissed at him about but this doesn't seem to be one of them.
seeing as JA bitched about the football team and now has moved on to the baseball team lets have at it with his coaching career and review that for a while.any former players want to give his praises, former employers, or fun loving parents have a gloriuous list of Joe Amat's achievements? next we'll move on to his present job-being a knowitall doneitall unemployed former wannabe high school coach
WHO IS JOE AMAT??????????????????
Diamond Bar had a nice win in the Loara tournament beating Sonora 10-5. The brahmas went 4-1. Gary Brown today hit 2 solo hr's and went 8/14 with 10 runs scored and 5 rbi's. Looks like the brahmas will go with Brett Miller as the #1 pitcher with Richie Jimenez as the #2 with Brown in the pen.
This tournament has some of the best teams in the area. Amat and CV look good. Bonita is ok and Glendora will have pitching woes all year. I am sure when the young pitchers start to struggle, Good old Henley will play the negative mind games he does with everyone else. I wish people would lay off coach Q. At least his players respect him and know he cares about them. Henley cares about his kids as long as they're winning. Nieto looks to be a great fit at Amat, so we hope our Chargers will be battling when the playoffs begin. Thanks for the forum.
Does anyone kow how the playoff seedings for the Glendora Tournament are calculated? The Championship game is a no brainer with Amat and Crescenta Valley playing at 7 Saturday, but what about the 3rd and 5th place games. Of the three teams that were 2-1, Glendora, Charter Oak, and Bonita, who plays for #3 and #5? (I know, who cares; but I had wanted to see Bonita and CO play each other.
None of the three played any of the others head to head, and no combo of RS, RA, or RS-RA differential makes any sense. What gives?
Had a chance to see one of the semi-final game of the Chino tournament. Yucaipa played Redlands East Valley and won 9-4. These same two teams will meet in the CBL opener next thursday. Yucaipa used their #3 pitcher who pitched a solid 5 innings. Yucaipa has a great team led by super-soph Matt Davidson who as a freshmen was the SB County player of the year as a p-1b. Davidson today hit a 2 run homer well into the trees at Yucaipa. In 2 other bats he hit a double off the cf fence and a single. After this REV walked him with runners on 1st and 3rd. Davidson is 6'3" and one of the best sophs I have seen. Yucaipa is one of the best places to see a game with the diamond 10 feet below the stands with terraced hills behind the field. Yucaipa defense is solid especially at ss and c.
Aram, Gonzo's a humble guy.....he doesn't talk trash or blow steam....he was just keeping things on the low...when can we expect that new top 10???
Remember Amat is playing D5 this year so they should look impressive against their league of Bishop Montgomery, St. Paul and others....they might as well put them to play the Freshman of So. Hills....a storied baseball conglamorate just went down the tubes playing that low of competition....
Amat is probably the best well rounded team in the SGV right now!
Pitching, hitting and solid defense!
Damien lacks pitching and is probably why they want Mark to give it a go!
Pitching will make or break Damien this year!
Chino is going to be a force to wreckin with in that league.
Both teams have played some weak comp in La Puente and Ganesha!
I don't think Amat and Damien will play this year becuase Damien is in the Claremont tournament finals and Amat is in the Glendora tournament finals. The only possible way they would play is if Amat is in the Chino tournament during spring break. Both teams are VERY legit.
Damien probably has the best defense in the area with Pertusatti controlling the infield and Mendrun roaming the outfield. Mendrun gets the best jumps and covers the most ground in the outfield by far(rumor has it he will be pitching by league, which is scary becuase this kid has a CANNON OF AN ARM). Pertusatti swings the bat like he has beef with the baseball or something. i would hate to be a leather sphere when this kid is batting.
hope damien plays amat this yr i kno in the past they have played in tourny's, should be a good battle, mendrun and pertusati are legit
That was a close one!
The Tartans are for real...
The Lancers may need some Emeril's Essence to kick it up a notch.
Congrats to both teams for a great hard fought game.
Randy,
I bet if you ask Gonzo, he'll tell you the Brahmas are surprising him. Either that, or he was sandbagging me for the preview. I just don't see how a team with Brown couldn't be good.
Aram, you need to update your baseball top 10. DB needs to be in the top 3. Half of those goats you have listed in your first poll woulda got swept right outta the Loara tournament. They dont play those games on "little league fields"......
Come on now, theres more to the SGV than Div 5 baseball! See for yourself, swing on by and dig around alittle.....the purple and gold are the move again!
DB picked up another clutch win this afternoon, 3-1 over Marina. They are in the consolation championship against Sonora on Sat. We didn't duck anybody here, look up those teams for yourselves. We were such hot shit in both football and baseball in the 90's....damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think them boys are ready for league, as I'm sure the rest of the Sierra teams are ready to go as well.....we either gonna get along--or get it on.....i say...GET IT ON!
It was one of those games that you wish no one would lose. At first the game appeared like it would finish in a hour and a half. Both starting pitchers James Janclaes (Glendora, Jr.) and Brady Zuniga (Bishop Amat, Soph.) pitched gems. The 6-8th innings were wild. Congrats to Amat for not giving up. Hopefully our Tartans can learn from this and learn to finish. Anyways I'm proud of my Tartans for a hard fought game.
Tartans are looking good they just need to believe in themselves and they wil do well
Hey Bishop Amat not bad for a D5 team.......Your new USC coach is looking like a genius over there...Your AD is even looking better.
if you need to catch up on whats going on in the local tournaments, go to "www.baseballresource.com/hs/events.php"
My Brahmas are doing OK in this HUGE tournament (32 fairly big name teams), anyone ever heard of the Loara tourney? They are 3-1 in this weeks action and play today at home against Marina in the consolation semi-final.
just f.y.i
