I am not sure if Tiffany SR. got into trouble, probably not. Those two it seems like they play good coach bad coach. Nobody ever has anything bad to say about Chuck Sr.,but he sure is close to the situation. He obviously is in a tough situation with his boy being a sophmore and some would say guilt by association but not me, I think his boy is pretty good and probably would be starting even without dad,but he is not really hitting the ball, he is only a soph tho,and all of the tiffs in my opinion lack the arrogance, conceit and my way or the highway kind of attitude that the head coach exhibits. I think other people in the co program would agree with me.

Another great coach at Damien. Won his 17 or 18 straight league title. Undefeated in league for God knows when. Typically places his students in the top universities in the nation. Reaches State every year. Consistently places students in the Nationals....let me say that again...THE NATIONALS every year.

Introduces students to a new sport which they did not even know existed (NO RECRUITING) and wins and some would say dominates year in year out. No assembling a team to fit the mold.He just wins with whoever shows up and gives his sport a try. Yet the "team" receives no attention, doesn't letter in Varsity even though it's a recognized CIF Varsity competition and typically has students participate that are enrolled in the most demanding AP classes on campus.

Yet this modest coach also finds the time to nuture and instruct young men in the value of sportsmanship, honor, integrity and friendship. You see him announcing CIF Championship basketball games and will even announce a LA Dodgers game soon. He is the ultimate Players Coach. He is a legend. He is the youngest person ever elected into his sport's Hall of Fame and yet he never touts his credentials only asking parents to give his sport a try. No pushy Dads, no second guessing from the stands, just kids trying their best. Sprinkle in the funniest team banquet I've ever been to and you realize this coach fosters love and respect amongst team mates that makes most sports pale in comparison.

Who is this awesome individual...Chuck Ballingall, mentor, teacher, coach, friend. Damien Debate for life.

Coach Lucero sounds awesome and Damien is lucky to have him. When schools find guys like that they should hold on tight.

It goes to show that if the coach...
1) Shows that he cares about his players off the field/court/mat
as well as on
2) Demonstrates that he is knowledgeable about the sport
3) Works as hard as he expects the players to
then the players will...
1) Develop a desire to please the coach
2) Listen and try to understand
3) Compete as hard as they are capable of competing

Props to Coach Lucero and to you for letting us know about guys out there that are fighting the good fight. Some are still left.

I read a wrestlers t-shirt once that said on the front,
"It is better to have wrestled and lost...
and on the back it said
...than to have played basketball!"

Wrestlers do love their sport!

Humbled Damien Dad said:

I learned a valuable lesson this year with wrestling. Good coaches are the ones that are qualified, care about the kids on every level, and do it for the kids before their ego.

His name is Coach Frank Lucero. And I owe him a great deal of respect and admiration for all he's done for my son. He coaches the Damien wrestling team along with his son Frank and brother Dan with help from Coaches Garcia and Silva.

Coach Lucero sets the tone with his work ethic and dedication, he keeps his standards open for review and invites scrutiny from anyone interested. His practices are open. One practice is all you need to see and then it's straight home (where we belong) because you know everything is being done professionally and in the best interest of your child.

Last night was the Damien Wrestling banquet. I've been to many banquets as a player, coach and parent. And this one will be very difficult to forget. Coach Lucero spoke eloquently about every single wrestler. His memories of each wrestler's efforts and sacrifice were from the heart as were his wrestlers comments about him. The time he took to shown each and every student HIS appreciation for their efforts was humbling to say the least. He is a great coach with a simple plan. Make students into upstanding distinguished men who happen to wrestle...and wrestle well. He prepares them for life by preparing their minds and spirit for success beyond sports.

Last night a senior said it best when he brought everyone to their knees. "I've played alot of sports, (his lettermen jacket a patchwork of awards) swimming, track, football and Coach Lucero is the only one that cares about the kids before himself. He tells us we're students first and athletes second. Wrestling is what you do and not who you are. It was an honor wrestling for Coach Lucero. When I'm on the mat in a match I try my best to give Coach my best effort in appreciation for all HIS hard work." That student has a 4.3 GPA and will attend Standford. How do I know this, Coach Lucero. Students first.

Wrestling is an extremely demanding sport. Anyone who's seen a practice or attended an event will agree. Continued success in life to the Senior Wrestlers Class of 2007. You were great leaders, great role models and great competitors. Life awaits you. Thank you Coach Lucero for all you do and the lessons you teach not only the wrestlers but also the parents.

Waste of time.....

You're absolutely right. On the flipside, if QB Allen didn't get the opportunity, his parents could have pulled him and there would be the bashing of he and his family and how irresponsible they are. Nobody outside of his family would know his true potential. Others would just say that if he was good enough, he would have played. That is the sad truth.

Waste of time said:

It's simple some parents want their pound of flesh. Better yet think about QB Allen's parents when they knew Carreon wasn't as good. Shit happens and you move on.

Go to another sport. Stop the Q bashing . You're only at the school 4 years and on Varsity for maybe 3..let it go. No one's perfect and ultimately at least Q is a qualified coach that maybe went overboard (your opinion) and those spineless parents let him get away with it (the harassment, again their opinion))instead of pulling the kids off the field and taking it up with the administration. Why didn't they??????....PLAYING TIME i.e. parents ego!

Grow a set and admit you failed your kids by not standing up to the "wrong doing coach" (again your opinion)and walking on the field and putting a stop to the abuse (again your opinion)

So now you come on here and anonymously bag on Q for your spineless cowardly tongue swallowing action from last year. Just enjoy your kids and move on ultimately it's a waste of time. Trust me!

Hey we agree, no parent should leave his kid in an unhealthy situation or be mistreated. I'm a Quinley fan and I think he does good job. I didn't see the incident against Wilson last year and won't judge either way, but his superiors made a decision (suspension) , he obliged, they moved on. I don't understand why he should address it with some parents. That's like you addrssing an evaluation from your work with me...Suspensions are given out from time to time and some will agree and some will not with what happened. The school acted, sounds to me like something was done, now if you don't think that was enough, than your issues are with administration. This is high school, but I hope if you have a kid that moves on to college or pro level, you don't expect their not to be some abnormal discipline procedures at those levels and so on.

To the Chucks said:

To All the Chucks........

If a player is being mistreated by a coach in any way, and no satisfactory action is being taken, then the only course of action is to transfer your kid. Easy way.... but you can't leave your kid in a unhealthy situation and deal with the baggage later. Just because others msy choose to stay and endure the pain, etc doesn't obligate another parent to do the same with their child. Thats unless you live by the motto: misery loves company.

The suspension was legit. Many parents were calling for his ouster and the suspension obviously did not really appease a good majority of them. The team after losing a close game to wilson were made to run the bases from home to home and a good football player, (who was the qb at the time and later moved to safety if favor of chris allen), was thought to have broken his leg. The move from qb to safety worked out for football, they played for the cif championship and manhandled SH 35-0 in the quarters. I think Q is a good x's and o's coach, however he probably was in the wrong this time. I dont know about other suspensions but there is always a feeling of us against them with the administration at CO. I can hear people typing already "why cant a team run after a loss"? Well for two hours in the dark, after a long, tough loss while kids were throwing up and possibly injuring themselves was more than the AD Mr Strycula could tolerate. There was also a fundraiser scheduled for that weekend that was canceled, due to Tom Quinley's suspension. I welcome anyone to correct any omissions or errors I have made about this situation. Character is made up of past and present reactions to stressful situations and Q dropped the ball on this one. Maybe if he fessed up we could move on, but his arrogance and refusal to admit he did anything wrong is disturbing to a vast majority of CO parents, whether they keep it to themselves or report on it.

Hey guys I spent most of Saturday and Sunday at San Marino High at a Clarkson QB school just to check it out. And man talk about little league parents.....Made you wanna puke.

And these parents shell out $1,400 a pop.

The nice thing was to hear Matt Leinart and Matt Cassel tell these kids (some as young as sixth graders) that no matter what you do in life hard work is the key to whatever you do.

And damn it was frecking hot and I know it had to boiling down on that turf. San Marino has also done a real nice job with their facility.

Chuck This,
At your work, can you call out the boss and ask him why he did something or why he does things? You're right, transfering is easy way out...stay and suck it up like all kids used to do it...Why do we need to baby the kids? I wasn't speaking for Quinley, but I don't think his approach was the tuff guy deal. I'm not sure what is up with the suspension, but it's a new year...let's move on.

Chuck this! said:

The answer isnt "Live with it or transfer". Very easy out answer for a coach, player or parent.

Coaches need to be held accountable for there actions and rise above the BS.

If your speaking of our famous Quniley(LOL), then he needs to step up and answer the bloggers. What's there to hide? Admission of mistakes seems to be a hard thing for this so called "Meet me on the field" tuff guy!

Up Chuck said:

I bet a lot of the bloggers here have kids that don't know they leave some of this crap on there. From a parent's perspective, I don't see the fulfillment of badmouthing a player or coach on here...I just don't. I have kids and I've coached before, so I look at things from both angles. If a coach is a jerk, it will get around...it did before blogs came out, so why hide here to blast a coach? Like i said, I don't see it. From a coach's perspective, I don't think there is a coach out there that thinks this or any blog that they are open season to is positive. It's hard enough to coach and coach baseball because it's such a tough game, add the parents and blogs to it, it just kills it. Let it be like the old days, if your coach tells you to do something...Do It!!! That's what I tell my kids. The school put this person in charge. Live with it or transfer.

Wait are all the blogger complainers and venters former high school coaches? So much for professional courtesy! You guys wouldn't want this type of nonsense when you coached but hey that's not YOUR problem!

Maybe you coached when the worst thing you had to deal with were the over friendly moms, the living thru his son dad and the know-it-all little league coach that was suspended from HIS league for tantrums and other BS.

I would have a parents meeting. Discuss the dangers of the blog in reference to good sportsmanship and the ills of talking behind people's back and finally welcome the parents to a one time bitch session and air it all out. I might even read from the blog and see who squirms the most. Like roaches most bloggers run with the lights on. All that would happen with a stack of transfer slip in my hand.

The silence would be deafening. I would also call in the former Dads that coached at the high school level and ask them what would they do to parents that seek to undermine the stability of the team...uuuummmmmmmm...yeah thanks ...I THOUGHT SO! Mums the word.

Sorry but football is king, in ALL aspects. Fan base, financial, media, etc. If that's what it takes to anchor all the other sports, then just accept it, or you could just play your softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball in front of almost no body for the next tweenty some odd years to come, or bow down to cold hard facts and play ball. Period.

Thats why people bitch and moan on here, not b ecause they want something to change, but because they are afraid of the consequences if they do step up. Even guys and gals that graduated years ago and still follow their team, don't want to get that look of disapproval from their peers at a game for a statement made, right. Coach Q called them all out and followed up by confirming his comments to Aram by phone. Still, no one will meet him on the field or anywhere else in person and speak face to face. Tom Q or Not said:

Tom Q or not, the point made to the players were valid. This was especially true this year in football based on what has been said throughout the past season on this blog. Bloggers talk about the parents(who we dont really know), players(who are still kids that want to enjoy their high school years), and coaches(some who can coach and some who cant)all day long. But none of these bloggers would dare use their real name. Ask yourself why? If the coaching and selection of players is strictly based on talent and who can get it done, you would be able to speak freely using your given name with no concerns, right? Yeah, give me a break. That why guys like Blueorca, Blueballs and MATMTWTBAG, Motherf+*!@% or Whoever get off on slamming other programs, coaches and players. Because the system and school they hold so dear is so fair and without flaw, they can step up with their true family names. Yeah, that's real good clean fun. If you believe every coach, in every sport gives every player a fair shot to compete, you are fools. There are many superstar players in every sport who were told they weren't big enough, tall enough, smart enough, or good enough to play based on an eyeball test or preconceived notion. None of them took no for an answer. They found a way. Imagine if they had listened to the people like you when they were going after their dreams. Key words: THEIR DREAMS, not yours. That is what this country affords us, the opportunity to go after whatever your dream is. Hey, maybe thats it. You didn't achieve your dreams, so you try to crush the dreams of others. But opinions are like assholes, its just this blog has more than its share of both.

Got an idea...or two.
1. Everyone here, esp. the critical ones who just want a forum to grieve or vent (see Dr. Phil) anyways, leave your work place and location and allow your coaches and other parents and kids to come to your work and criticize and post about it to your boss and co workers daily. That would give the fans of baseball and the coaches and the kids who have been targeted a place to vent and grieve as well. How does that sound? Oh yeah, can't guarantee the evaluation will be just about your job, it could be about your weight or another characteristic you have.
Be specific on what Del Taco you work out or wherever it is. I'm sure that won't be answered...I hear your fingers already typing..."Freedom of Speech" that's what this great country was founded on ..blog blog blog...save it, leave your personal info here and let's have the "targets" pay you a visit. What's fair is fair.

2. Have a blog for the coaches and players and for anyone who gets ripped on here to address the parents by name and make comments about them for everyone to read. Here's an example, at the San Diego game yesterday, did you see Ms. P (this is an initial of a fake name) with her hooters hanging out. She must work at a strip joint. Hmm, how well will that go over with the haters..oh, but Ms. P is innocent and doesn't hate on the blogs, doesn't even know about them....well too late, it was suggested and is the talk of the town, but like they do in the next day's paper on page 10, we'll write an extraction..."Ms. P is not a stripper". Leave your work name and locations...Thanks.

For a guy who wants us to believe he spends alot of time on the field, he sure has alot of time on this blog!

Keep venting Tom, it just shows what an sorry man you have become!

TOM QUINLEY

Many Many times we have asked you to address the suspension! Why wont you? Is it the fact that you were dead wrong and are avoiding the question? Now you are ripping aram? Maybe you are mad at him for posting the blog and then people giving their honest opinion of you. Hey everybody cant be a disgruntled parent who's kid rides the pine. You told aram "take this blog off I was only supposed to be praised for faxing in the tournament brackets" What a joke. Cant take the heat get out of the kitchen. As far as taking on aram he is a class act, wont bow to your weak pressure to censor what people feel, and I hope aram if you read this you please tell everybody, pro quin, and anti quin what the suspension was for last year in a fair and accurate manner. For shame Tom critizing aram, all he did was thank you for faxing something over,he cant control what people think about you, you have done that yourself. Aram I am awaiting your always classy response.

That was a called shot ala The Babe...About time someone hangs his nuts out over the plate and says "Just bring it". A forum for parents to express their thoughts? That's what the living room is for or the bbq's...Why does it have to be on a web page for everyone to read ? Air your grievances with friends...why with strangers? Thanks again Quinley for letting them hang out over the plate.

You have some "Little Johnnys" in your system that are playing because of DADAS!

You continue to talk out of both sides of that mouth! Which way is the wind blowing today Tom?

The tribune probably looks pretty good in that birdcage, but its clear you read it before you liad it to rest!

You simply are just pissed off because alot of individuals don't agree with your bullshit anymore!

Instead of trying to put Aram blog down or others for expressing their opinions, why not answer the questions posed to you many days ago?

Now Tom Quniley speaks for all coaches, players, parents, by the following statement..

"You sit back and are probabally loving all the attention your blog is giving you, but you don't realize that all these coaches and players that are getting ripped in your blog put in a 100% more time and effort than you have ever done at your job. The only thing that this blog does is give people a chance to express themselves in a fashion that they wouldn't do in a public forum. I speak on behalf of all high school coaches in all sports when I say this...this blog undermines all the things that only us coaches, who are actually at practices on a daily basis, notice from the players such as who is dogging it and who is working their butts off to earn a starting position. All they want is to see their "Little Johnnys" out there playing whether they deserve it or not, because as you know everyone is a Division 1 prospect or so I've been told.(LOL)."

TOM, TOM, TOM, are your losing it? Pressure must be getting to you. Wake up Tom, and change your approach!

Coach Q.,

Very good insight into what we all know about the SGV and players that have went on to or are Minor leaguers in MLB. The only thing I do agree with this Blog is, that yes, this is a place where us parents can voice our displeasure about coaching, without getting our kid put on pine for the rest of his playing days, wheather, football, baseball or basketball or any sport for that matter....you cannot tell me that coaches do not take what parents say and punish the kid by sitting him to show who is boss. It happens all the time. You also cannot tell me that favortism is not happening with SOME, not ALL coaches, when it comes to cetain players...this Blog and thanks to Aram has given parents and players a place to be heard. I am not saying all is 100% correct and some is fabricated and some is flat out BS, but their is some truth and legitimacy to what happens at the HS sports level concerning certain coaches and AD's....It is not like this makes a differance to voice your opinion hear because certain coaches have tunnel vision and do what they damn please anyways...Some coaches are very egotistical and sometimes let their pride get in the way and are stubborn. These are the coaches we talk about here on this blog. Aram, I feel has found a nice niche here for both parents and players, but to you coach Q you must remember not all coaches are like you, their are always some bad apples in every bunch. My Hat is off to those coaches who put in the time and effort and are stand up guys but my hat is off to the parents who try to expose these corrupt coaches who take indirect kick backs from parents who want their kids starting, where the kid that is better suited to start sits.

Finally a coach with some balls and takes the time to tell it like it is!!!!!!

Coach Q- that was clutch. Prepare for the onslaught of bitch monkeys to start typing responses. I wish they would have shown up at your grass cutting forum but the truth is those Dadas just want to justify their incompetence with little Johnny who already tuned out DAD!

That was a called shot to dead center field!!!!!

COACH...TAKE YOUR CURTAIN CALL!!!!!!

BRAVO!

Hey Aram,
Let's see if you can take some criticism of your own and print this on your blog. Your coverage for football is excellent. Good articles after each game. League standings every week. Basketball, not very good, unless your a fan of Glendora. Baseball, it's terrible. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The schools in this area are lucky to get a box score. I'm sure all the parents run to the end of the driveway the next day to get the paper, to see their son's boxscore (LOL). Me myself, I use the high school sports section of the Tribune to line the bottom of my birdcage. Whatever happened to the big two sentences that the teams used to get. If you want to go back 10 or more years, when Steve Hunt did your job, whatever happened to the REAL good articles on the games and featured articles on the better players in the area. The San Gabriel Valley historically in baseball is a hotbed. There have been more professional baseball players to come out of the San Gabriel Valley than in any other sport. In fact, I would be willing to bet that the San Gabriel Valley has produced more major league players than any other area in the United States. With names like Tom Brunansky and Joey Eischen (West Covina), Jack Clark (Gladstone), Mark McGuire (Damien), Jim Edmonds (Diamond Bar) , Mike Dyer and Shane Bowers (Charter Oak), Rob Wilfong-Ed Putman- Mark Clear-Tim Corcoran-Kevin Bell-Keith Lockhart-Chris Woodward-(Northview), Jason and Jeremy Giambi-Cory Lidle-Shawn Wooten-Aaron Small-(South Hills) Fred Lynn- El Monte, Randy Knorr-Baldwin Park, Mike Young and Mike Lamb-Amat, Matt Wise-Bonita, Mike Mizeraka-Glendora, and Rick Aguilera-Edgewood. That's just 26 of what is a longer list of players to make it to the major leagues. Currently, you have a list of kids that are playing in the minor leagues and for those who were drafted and didn't make it, the list is too long. "Aram, Aram, ARAM" wake up, don't you see what you're missing and what your responsibility is to all the current high school baseball players who deserve the same notoriety that you gave all the football players this year?
You sit back and are probabally loving all the attention your blog is giving you, but you don't realize that all these coaches and players that are getting ripped in your blog put in a 100% more time and effort than you have ever done at your job. To the players, have fun, win as many games as you can and just enjoy the high school experience. Don't get caught up as to what is being said in the stands or on these blogs. Remember, you are playing for your teammates and the name on the front of your jersey. Good luck.

"Apparently "class" is not taught at Bishop Amat.

Evidenced by the graduated men who wear the blue and gold but come across as crass, arrogant and ridiculous.

You are all an embarassment to men like Pat Haden and JK McKay who would NEVER lower themselves to speak so ill of the players, the team, the coaches, the adminstration or the "new uniforms" for Christ's sake.

Take some time and reflect on your actions. Bishop Amat is better than that and bigger than you."

Amen!

Hey Fanball

I agree 100% with your assesment of Coach Murphy. His father John was also a very good coach and has taught his son well.

Fanball said:

Murphy does a good job at Northview. He is a good fundamental teacher and gets the best out of his players (well the ones that actually belong there, but that's a different story).

stop said:

bluorca, You talk about our school like if your starting a coult. You need to stop and get over it we are in SGV not the OC. I know you want us to play those teams because of BRAGGING right here in the SGV and maybe will be on TV right. but ill say this none of us on the team think like you do. I want to know what your going to say on the blogg if we lose a game.

Wrong said:

Murph is not the problem at Northview! He does an AWESOME job with the kids he has. Certain kids "take" better to certain coaches. In Will's case, I've heard he wasn't a big fan of the new football coach. He played like a STUD under Quinsey, it's a shame he didn't play longer! You can't blame a kid for picking one sport over the other, and you sure can't blame a head coach.

NV Vikes said:

It has been told to me that its either Football or Basball. Murphy seems to be the problem guy!

Ask Will or Rod about that!

Shame said:

NV,

Amat was toying with you....those kids you have at northview are not bad but they would have never made Amats varsity Team....lots of your kids played with ours in travel and they were the support cast....we have no business taking it out on you guys..........but I am not knocking your program I just want Amat to play the Servites Mater Dei Riverside Arlingtons and La Quintas teams.........thats where they need to measure themselfs.......not against Northview ...Ifwe throw Maverick at your team you guys do not score.......Any reason why Robles your starting QB is not playing baseball?

Blucora No one cares that you're completely obsessed with Amat and these blogs. Obviously you and other "Amat faithful" have nothing better to do then to salivate over anything that has to do with your school. The fact that people dislike Amat more and more is probably because of people like YOU who boast and brag have nothing better to talk about than just BA. Athletes are starting to notice that there friends they played with all over the SGV before going to BA are starting to dislike them becuase of the school they represent, and like I said its probably because of people like you and the "Amat Faithful"

Aram said:

Bluorca,

Some very good points. A lot of schools have some great, life long fans. But Amat takes the cake. It's not just about a given four years.

No high school game or tournament should be played on a Pony field!

The game sure can change with short fences!

Glendora boosters or the district need to get lights.

HAHA!

Most of the Amat bloggers on here have been following Amat sports (especially football) for the past 10-20 years.

So please...No one panic...We'll be here next year, the year after that, and the year after.

And after everyone's kid graduates and most of the Non-Amat bloggers lose interest in SGV sports because their attention span will only span the years their kid attends the SGV school, the Amat bloggers will keep going. And we will only grow more numerous as more and more people not only get computers but take a genuine interest in the internet and this blog.

Amat pride is not bounded by time nor graduation dates. And like our faith in the Lord, it will shine forever.

Mighty Are the Men and Chicas That Wear Blue And Gold...

NV can play with anyone said:

Hey Shame; Northview is a real good baseball team.Along with Covina,San dimas and Bp the valla vista league will be the toughest in the sgv. I know amat is strong but the score was only six to two on a pony field.

If it was such a shame to play down with NV,then why did they only win six to two? thats not really a blowout.

LAC said:

stop,

Still dont like Amat, there to good for everyone in the SGV in EVERY sport, or at least seem to think so. Amat loses they whine, when they win they're the Kings, they've pretty much lost all of my respect. Hopefully your right about it being the same bloggers because it gets Old!

stop said:

Please stop talking about our team....... I now know the reason why so many SGV schools dont like us, because of the SAME BLOGGERS that keep posting stuff like we are GODS GIFT to other players in the SGV we all grew up playing each other and just chose to go to different schools nothing wrong with that. Were having a good time playing each again. NOTHING WRONG with the SGV schools.

all knowing said:

I think you should have a sports school of the year. and you can base your rankings on final top 10, all area athletes, and how the playoffs went.

Aram said:

Amat is playing in the Glendora Tournament, just like last year. There's nothing wrong with that. They'll probably repeat as champs.

Shame said:

WOW! Did I see that right Bishop Amat over Northview yesterday in Baseball?....Yeah thats more like it, Amat play down to that level...embarassing for the Blue and Gold...Hey I hear Walnut is looking for a game...Gimmeny Crickets! how low is our program going to go?
