« Can anybody beat Los Altos? | Main | HURTS: Amat downed in OT, 60-54. »

Hall of Fame Game moving to Bassett HS ...

The game is on July 6, so don't blow your hand off two days earlier.

Game founder Jim Brownfield wants to keep it as close to the 605 Freeway, as in the middle of the Valley, as possible. Even though we all know the trophy resides in the East.

DISCLAIMER: I don't know the rosters, or the coaches. The Trib has no say in this, thank God. But if you want to discuss who you think should be there, I'm sure it would get back to those in charge.

Quick Aram thought: Real smart ... speed up the East even more by playing on carpet at Bassett's new stadium, which by the way, is now among the best in the Valley. Field turf isn't exactly the best way to level the playing field for the West to make some noise in the series.

Any of you guys know who will coach the East this year?

around what time do hall of fame rosters come out?

Really liked BA's Silva from last year. Didn't see alot of hogs on the Amat line last year but really respect the offense scheme that Verti runs.

As far as QB I hear you guys got problems. When was the last great /good Amat QB? What gives? As far as running the ball that's going to be tough with anyone I saw last year. All the talent was hurt so if there was going to be a super soph come thru that was the time to step in.

As far as the Bishop Amat goes this year they'll be thin in the skill positions and uneven in the "hogs" department. Dominique Austin just has to make the decision to either add the weight and play big or maintain his weight and get quick. You can not be a project forever. I've seen Damien's Rabe and heads up Rabe is the better player and has better upside in terms of toughness and size. In fact so did Luieten, better natural size and quickness, and Walsh, essentially the same size and frame as DA, but the coaching at Bishop is what makes Austin the better college fit. He has great feet, solid mechanics, will have played played and started on varsity for 3 years and played against top teams consistently. In short Bishop Amat puts players in position to be college ready. From the wieght room to the film room Bishop Amat blows most schools out of the water. As far as recruiters Bishop Amat also has the credibility and connections that promotes players in their soph/junior years. Damien on the other hand came late to the party with so few 2 year starters. (Luiten, Walsh, Stokes, Gomez, Uche, Lucero) were all first year starters. So where is the film on them for recruits? Travis (didn't play defense or TE as he should have) Mendrun (didn't play any other position even though he probably would have signed if he showed that versatility. He's a great athlete, fantastic competitor and outstanding individual He could have played at Div I Colgate) both will be a JC next year even with the year's they had. And that's a shame.

People get mad when I say so and so should play another position to show versatility but now that no one signed I guess that anger is no longer directed at me. Same goes for the lack of two year starters. It affects recruiting plans when all you have to go on is 3/4 games of experience.

This year I hope Dominique Austin and John Rabe blow everyone up and meet in an All Star practice and settle who's the best lineman in the Valley.I'm shure there are other great linemen but maybe someone can start that civil debate.....

"WHO'S THE BEST LINEMAN IN THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY"

Any nominations?

Amat Hogs will be big and strong up front this year..in addition to Austin...Ochoa, Stremple and the tight end Silva are going to be smashing people off the line of scrimmage...also lets not forget Kevin Bonilla as a running back....he will help carry the load

Dorian Wells running behind Dominique Austin...

I like it!

Non respected league. Chino Hills and Chino are the only schools that produce Division I talent year in and year out. And that's no accident. Better coaching. Ayala and Diamond Bar always have speed and size and move on players and that's because public schools promote their kids well. As far as Glendora and Damien they have Citrus, Chaffey and Mt. Sac where they get their first real next level coaching instruction and next level weight lifting instruction. That's why this league is not respected outside of the SGV. Everyone loves the size and loves the kids but the coaching overall is suspect. Don't believe that than where would Travis, Mendrun, Walsh, Edmonds be if they were at Amat or Los Altos? signed, sealed and delivered. Do you think Gano, Bogan, Farrar have problems picking up the phone and having people come out and see their next Division I talent? Look at Bishop Amat for better or worst they promote players every day of every year. Dominique Austin has been promoted and heralded since he was a gangly soph. and now he's in a position to have all eyes on him for his senior year and come this time next year he'll signed somewhere.Too bad everyone of these players could have signed somewhere. All had great upside. As far as a farm. Damien would have to schedule Mater Dei, Santa Margarita or Loyola so parents could see an ass kicking of major proportion by a school as academically demanding as theirs. When Bishop Amat kicks the crap out of Damien the Damien backers just dismiss it as a thug, win at all educational costs, football only school. I've never seen a team get beat so regularly by someone and have absolutely no respect for them after the game. That's Damien vs. Bishop Amat for better or worst. Good luck to all the teams and ultimately the season will play itself out and may the best school win.

1.Chino Hills 2.Chino 3.Ayala in an upset 3.Glendora 3. Damien. 6. Diamomd Bar

Of course...

There is always the possibility of Damien turning itself into a high caliber football farm and what we saw last year could be the beginning of this occurrence. If this is indeed the case, look for Damien to begin spewing out great team after great team. Then it would be extremely wrong for Damien to remain in the Sierra...But, I honestly do not think this is the case.

Chino Hills looks like a force to be reckoned with. They will probably win league. Does anyone know if they have to face Mission Viejo again?

As much as I've grown to respect Glendora, they will have a very tough time againts Chino Hills. But even so, as with all sports, a good defense will always defeat a good offense so there is hope for the Tartans.

Damien had a good team last year but last year's team is not typical of a football team that comes out of Damien. This is why they are in a public school league rather than a parochial one. What Damien will have is size...they will be massive in the trenches.

all u damien and glendora honks seem to forget the real power house in the seirra - CHINO HILLS! none of you stand a chance against us this season. we will nail your ass. damien has got nobody returning this year and your qb has very little playtime experience with nobody to run or pass to. glendora will have a powerful defense, but how are you going to put points on the board? hope your defense can score haha. it will all end up with CH in first, glendora in second and maybe damien in third or our homeboys in chino.

you can take that to the bank.

Citrus along with your studs

Exactly where are all of those "Damien Studs" playing next year? The only one that signed a letter was Harper, congrats to him. Haven't heard about any of the others? Anyone know....

Well I Guess we will have to wait for the big game this season to see who gets their ass handed to them. My guess would be Damien will lose to Chino Hills, Glendora and Chino.

Enough Said
Did you beat Chino Hills this year?... enough said

Not only did Damien kick Glendora's butt in
football, your dumb ass Henley just made the biggest coaching blunder in the history of SGV baseball by allowing us back into a game and then winning it! LOL

Like Damien Clone said... I'll take athletes and team speed over slow Glendora!!!

PERRY,

NEVER HEARD OF HAVING A BAD DAY! YOU WILL SEE MANY A BAD DAY COME THIS SEASON WHEN YOU GUYS ARRIVE ON THE FIELD WITH TRAINING BRAS AND DIAPERS. NO EXPERIENCE..SAD

enough said..
great comment man that took a lot of intelligence, you really know your football. So Damien should have lost to chino hills? Well you guys shouldn't have come within 20 points of us that was an embarrasment to Damien by not crushing a weak, sorry Glendora team who will be returning that same defense that we put to shame.
See you ladies on the field

You are a good man, Mike. FYI, I am not a "bagpiper honk". I am a Damien grad who grew up in Glendora.

My Boy's....Plaid Man and Jeffrulerson..hey you guys you may not agree with me, but man it sure is good to see some familiar "bagpiper" honks here.

Where the heck have you guys been? recruiting?

Hey guys great to see you back...

Love me or hate we are on the same team.

Out!

Mike the Clone

2005 Season: DAMIEN TAKES 4th PLACE (Right where they belonged that season)
2006 Season: DAMIEN TAKES 1st PLACE (Should have lost to Chino Hills)
2007 Season: DAMIEN WILL TAKE 3rd PLACE (No Experience)

ENOUGH SAID

Mike the Clone

Ok. here is your new line up:

1. Same coaching that you love
2. Klauzy.. green behind the ears
3. Slow vega with no break away speed
4. Horn/Young trying to pop holes for Vega
5. AND who to replace 1500+ yards?

Wow, I'll take our athletic group!

I'm Out

Damien clone

Clouded mind..
How much pot do you smoke a day? You say that Glendora's team 2 years ago would beat Damien 10 out of 10 times?? Damien was up by 20 or something at half time and broke down in the second half. Dont give credit to glendora that game, Damien beat Damien

TO ALL GLENDORA FANS/ALUMNI/SKIRT WEARERS: yes, you Glendorans may get an occasional win here and there every decade and hey, maybe even 2 years in a row! but you all need to realize DAMIEN WILL ALWAYS OWN YOUR SCHOOL SO STOP TRYING TO ARGUE OTHERWISE!

Glendora didn't have any passing TDs against Damien last season. Both of their scores came on the ground.

WOW! I didn't realize the football world is still turning so fast in here. A couple of comments come to mind as I read the Glendora/Damien stuff:

To Damien Rolls again, regarding the "experience" of your QB vs. our new guy, it seems our guy played a heck of a lot more there last year than yours did...check the stats though. Oh, wasn't it Kaluz. in fact who threw for a TD against...who was that...OH...DAMIEN. He's still a bit green but more time at QB than your guy.

As for the O-line, I forget who (MIKE? maybe) said we lose so much there, but don't we have our starting center (& backup) and a guard or tackle back? I know that both TE's are back as well. We may go more power running game, 2X Tights, rather than speed, which fits the style of our experienced runners (Vega, Horn & Young) and yes, I think our passing game will emerge as good, if not better than last year.

But the backbone of this team will be that deep and experienced D-fence. They should be fun to watch.

(Also, let's hope our kicking game is better too...at least both guys are back there too)

Perry, its all relative!

GLENDORA WOULD HAVE BEAT DAMIEN 10 OUT OF 10 TIMES THE SEASON BEFORE LAST. LIKE I SAID BEFORE, IT WAS DAMIENS YEAR LAST SEASON WHILE GLENDORA HAD A REBUIDING YEAR. THIS SEASON, THE ROLLS HAVE REVERSED, WHILE DAMIEN REBUILDS, GLENDORA IS AT FULL FORCE AND EXPERIENCE.YOU WOULD BE A BIG FOOL TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE!! AGAIN, I ASK YOU TO LOOK AT BOTH TEAMS STUDS AND EXPERIENCE THAT IS RETURNING. DON'T LET YOUR HOME TEAM ALLEGIANCE CLOUD YOUR MIND. LOOK AT THE PLAYER MATCHUP, THEN COME BACK TO THE BLOG WITH YOUR THOUGHTS.

Uh hello, they were "stacked" but got "whacked" in the 2nd round! All this shallow shit talking and it's only April, that's good. Leave a mark in CIF come nov/dec, until then S-T-F-U!

OK Perry maybe that was a little over the top You guys were pretty stacked last year. But Dude at least give me two games out of that ten....LOL

Late Man!

Mike the Clone

Mike..
Common now kid. You know Damien would beat Glendora 10 out of 10 times with the squads they both had last year. I dont care if Damien had street clothes and Glendora was suited up.. it just wasn't gonna happen pal. Damien simply had more talent and just dominated. Glendora looked like a pop warner team compared to the Spartans

Mendrum, Crook , Edmonds or your stud defense?

I'll take Edmonds, Crook and our stud defense with any other coaching STAFF other than the one we had when we played Damien this past season.

Anytime, Anywhere, Anyplace.

Out!

Mike the Clone

Urban Cowboy...

Who carried Who to victory last year?

Mendrum, Crook , Edmonds or your stud defense?

Simply answer!

Do you put your money on an athletic stud like Danny or Kluzany who hasn't proven himself in any athletic environment...?

Again… our team speed and Danny’ leadership will roll on again next year! Don't forget our hugh offense line that is coming back.

Retired,

"...my boy's on cloud 9 and all is right with the world."

Man, that's awesome! You should be very proud. Hard work really does pay off no matter what anyone's kid choses to do in life.

Yeah people were keying off on Jordan. But it is my opinion that the passing game wasn't in sync due to the fact they were screwing around with the QB's. Use one or the other I was saying at the time.

Much success to your son!

I am Out!

Mike the Clone

Mike what number is after 1? Two as in the time has come. Okay this is in fun...no more pissing contest...my son got great news and the gloves are off...I promise... How about blocking for two styles of running backs?

Necessity is the mother of invention and Charter Oak could have platooned but Carreon lost "it" against Damien.

Problem with Glendora last year might have been that the whole world new Edmonds was getting the ball and yet he delivered. Credit him and the line...your son included.

Pascy is a very good coach but I noticed last year 05-06 that most of his assistants are Glendora holdovers and that's always deadly. I've never heard of high school coaching "tenure" except at Damien and Glendora but maybe you could help out by being up front with Pascy. God knows he knows you! Lol

Good luck with your boy Mike and as far as me I'm done pissing and moaning...my boy's on cloud 9 and all is right with the world.

Fight on!

Ok Urban,

So you named me ONE! and a good one at that, as flukish as it may have been. But how often does that come along?

Here's a question Urban please enlighten and educate us on how many more times that's happened in the last ten years as long as we're talking college ball and NCAA champions.

How many of those Div 1 champions platooned....Texas didn't, USC didn't. So now your down to 8 within the last ten years to enlighten us to whom had a platooning QB situation.

But seriously Urban I'd really liked to know how many there were in the last ten years. I like my percentages.

What do I know I never played too much on the offensive line......LOL. Right Urban?

The only reason I remember that "Crookie" run was because I was down on that west endzone and saw him break that off.

Late!

Mike the Clone

MIKE, THAT WAS AN AWSOME PLAY OF CROOK AGAINST CO IN THE LAST TWO MINUTES. I LOST MY VOICE AND WET MY PANTS AFTER THAT SPECTACULAR WORK! I DON"T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I AM LOOKING MORE FORWARD TO THE EL DO GAME THAN DAMIEN THIS YEAR. WE NEED TO SHOW EL DO HOW THE BIG BOYS PLAY. I STILL THINK OUR DEFENSE WILL KEEP DAMIEN TO SHORT GAINS IF ANY AT ALL. BUT WE WILL NEED TO PUT POINTS ON THE BOARD. YOUNG KALUZNY WILL DO JUST FINE. I LIKE HIS ARM AND ABILITY TO SCRAMBLE. JUST HOPE OUR RECEIVERS WILL BE THERE.

Mike as always you're a freakin genius when it comes to football and offensive linemen....there is no way a QB platooning team could expect it's linemen to block consistently for 2 very different QBs.....

University of Florida 2006-2007 National Champions...opps!

DAMIEN WINS...as far as being "fast" to be able to run...check back on the Temescal Canyon game...that truck that hit you ran a 5.2. And as far as Vegas' 600+ yards not being "big" check your running backs stats...less that that and he was the starter...and Vega wasn't...opps again!

My boy will be back this year! Wasn't pissed off just bewildered. As were a lot of people who were just left shaking their heads. When your a grunt working with two QB's it is very difficult.

"Kaluz" should be fine if they don't screw with him. "Crookie" was a first teamer remember in the Sierra league. Right behind the Damien QB who was the league MVP I do beleive. Correct me if i'm incorrect. The coaches in the league obviously saw what "Crookie" had going on. Just ask "Coach Lou" I think it was Garrett who pulled off a big gainer by himself under two minutes against CO to set us up for a win against them.

I hope your right though, I suspect it will be interesting.

Late!

Mike the Clone

Late

Mike the Clone

"DAMIEN WILL WIN"

SO FAR THE ONLY NAME YOU HAVE MENTIONED IS DANNY P. WILL HE ALONE CARRY DAMIEN TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP?
COME ON! WHERE WILL ALL THE EXPERIENCE AND REPLACEMENT PLAYERS COME FROM? MAY NEED TO STEPUP YOUR RECRUITMENT!!!

MIKE, I KNOW YOUR ALLEGIANCE WAS WITH LAST YEARS TARTANS (YOUR SON'S LAST YEAR)AND ARE EXTREMELY PISSED OFF WITH THE PLATOONING (ME TOO), HOWEVER THE PLATOONING GAVE SOME REAL PLAYING TIME FOR OUR QB THIS YEAR. LAST YEARS TEAM DID NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE THIS YEAR WILL BRING TO THE GRID. MANY JRS STARTED LAST YEAR, UNLIKE YEARS BEFORE. I'M AFRAID THIS YEAR WILL BE THE YEAR THE TARTANS HAVE THE BIG CHANCE. I AGREE WITH YOU THOUGH, IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO PUT THE RUSHING YARDS TOGETHER WITHOUT JORDAN. MAYBE THIS WILL BE THE YEAR OF PASSING YARDS, KALUZNY HAS A GREAT ARM AND HE COULD SCRAMBLE. DEFENSE WILL KEEP THE SCORE DOWN.

UNLESS YOU CAN DEMOSTRATE BY A PLAYER TO PLAYER MATCHUP, DAMIENS YOUNG OFFENSE WILL NOT HAVE ANY OPPORTUNITY AGAINST GLENDORA'S EXPERIENCED DEFENSE THIS YEAR. HEY, LAST YEARS D, WITH LESS EXPERIENCE, DOMINATED MANY GAMES AGAINST TEAMS WHICH WERE TOP DOG IN THEIR DIVISION. ADDING ANOTHER YEAR OF EXPERIENCE WILL MAKE THEM EVEN MORE DOMINATING. REMEMBER, MOST OFFENSES GLENDORA WILL BE FACING THIS YEAR, WILL HAVE LESS EXPERIENCE AND TALENT THAN LAST YEAR. THE MATH IS EASY. GOOD LUCK DAMIEN (OR SHOULD I SAY DANNY P. ET AL)

Kluzany is on a learning curve this year! Not as athletic as Danny and never will be!

Vega... better get alot faster to compete at this level. 600+ yards isn't what I call a strong runner! LOL

Your Defense will be tested with some returners gettting more playing time! But the big question is what speed guy can replace Edmonds with 1500 yards. He was over half your running yards and passing game sucks! Good luck because dont see any speed in your back field. Chino Hills will run by you and we'll pass all over your so called stud defense. We have the legs, Glendora doesn't. Our atheltic QB and team speed will win out!

I'll reserve judgment on “Kaluz” at this time, only because of the non-sense platooning that went on this past season between “Crookie” and himself. If that happens again then all bets are off. Your offense sputters and has no rhythm and you will end up with what you saw this year with total inconsistency within your offense. The offense finally looked good late into the season.

You don’t go into week six against Damien expecting a win when you have been screwing with platooning your QB’s every other series up until then. By that time “Coach P Shottenheimer” had sealed his fate and finished third. It didn’t matter who was at QB at that late in the season.

Maybe I’m just being skeptical. We lost an explosive O-line that opened things up for “Jordie” to have those high rushing numbers. This past season was “The year” if anything in my opinion.

The defense I’m not worried about, but throw in the mix of a cast of new offensive guys and a learning curve…and see what I mean who knows?”

Come on “button wearers” start thinking with your heads and not with your hearts. Good yes, but how good remains to be seen.

I am Out!

Mike the Clone

REMEMBER DAMIEN FANS, 2005 SEASON IN 4th PLACE and 2006 SEASON IN 1st PLACE AND YOU WOULD BE A LIAR IF YOU DIDN'T THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE A RE-BUILDING SEASON FOR THEM. TO MANY STUDS MISSING THIS YEAR TO REPLACE.

SGV FAN,DON'T UNDER ESTIMATE GLENDORA'S QB KALUZNY AND ALL THE STUDS RETURNING ON GLENDORA'S DEFENSE. THE D WILL HAVE BY FAR THE STRONGEST, MOST EXPERIENCED AND HARDEST HITTERS IN THE SIERRA LEAGUE. I'll BET NOW THE FEWEST POINTS WILL BE SCORED AGAINST THEM IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. DON"T JUST TALK - LOOK AT WHO IS RETURNING ON GLENDORA'S D, THEN MAKE YOUR DECISION. THIS WILL BE A MAJOR FACTOR IN COMMING SEASON. TOP LEAGUE RUSHER EDMUNDS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE. MUST UNDERSTAND THOUGH VEGA IS RETURNING WITH STRONG RUSHING YARDS AND SEVERAL HUNGRY SPEED DEMONS ARE COMING UP THIS SEASON.

THE REAL BATTLE WILL BE BETWEEN CHINO HILLS AND GLENDORA. CHINO HILLS IS ALWAYS TOUGH, BUT WITH HARRIS, HARCKEY AND OTHERS RETURNING, THEY HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED A MAJOR THREAT.

Define "a little bit"

Mendrun 2005 stats

14 td 10 ints QB rating 79% 106.7 yards per game
56 rushes ---203 yards 3.63 average

Mendrun 2006 stats

22 tds 4 ints 2300 yards 104% QB rating 221.1 yards per game
78 rushes---353 yards 4.53 average

Let's hope Danny's a quick study. He's a very good baseball player I'll give him that.

Ya that year of experience seemed to help Mendrun just a little bit, this year he had 2,300 yds 30 total td's(22 passing) and only 4 ints. Mendrun has been helping pertusatti since the season ended so lets hope he can have a similar season as Mark

NO, Mendrun's junior stats were 14 TD's 11 Int's..not good but at least he had more Td's than pics

One more thing Mendrun was 10 TDs and 10 INTs his Junior year....where is Danny P's learning curve year? Can't remember the last one year wonder at QB can you?

SGV fan great analysis. You're right it will be very interesting. As far as Glendora . What is Morrison's record against Pasquerella? Against Roche? Don't know who the junior is who will replace Danny P. but I wish him well ..he'll have some big shoes to fill.

But the Sierra league is down next year especially without Monger at Chino, the dysfunction at Diamond Bar and the losing mentality at Ayala. Really it's a 3 man league and not in the Loyola, Bishop Amat, St. John Bosco way.

There's alot of bad blood after the drama at midfield with Morrison and Pasquerella last year so let the games begin!

Roche is pissed because he felt cheated, and maybe he was justified but that was last year and it took a miracle to beat Roche. You know lightming doesn't strike twice. My money is on a great game at Damien. Best of luck to everyone in the Sierra League.

One thing you guys need to remember. Damien always has at least 3 studs like Mendrun, Eschardies, and Lucero. Pertusatti will not be playing defense becuase there is a stud junior coming up who is just as good and weighs about 15 lbs more. Pertusatti will be able to run the offense like Mendrun did becuase they are both smart kids and Morrison gives them permission to audible however they want becuase they have good instict. Thats all Damien's offense is, QB reads the D presnap because they are all predictable and calls out a play at the line. Now we will just see if Pertusatti can pick apart Defenses like Mendrum did.

And I'm sorry, but what's all this talk about Glendora being a threat in league? Their fans do this every year proclaiming "Oh watch out valley! It's the YEAR OF THE TARTAN!" but always end up around .500 They dont even have a QB with any experience/leadership to lead an offense. And who is going to replace Edmonds? Yeah they are returning a good amount of their defense, but that't only good if you are returning a bunch of studs. Glendora will be a little above average defense next year becuase Pasquerella knows his stuff, at least to get a perrenial 3rd spot in league.

Everyone says Ayala is going to be a threat becuase they will have a senior QB (Baca) who threw for almost 2,000 yards last season. But guess what, they didn't WIN A GAME. He also had more Interceptions than TD's. I saw them play last season and he accounted for the majority of his yards in the 4th quarter becuase Ayala was losing so badly that defenses gave up a lot of passing yards becuase time was winding down.

Chino Hills will probably be better next season becuase they have a returning back (Harris) and tight end (Harkey) who will both be signing next February. Not to mention Wade Oneill as the anchor of the defense.

And Diamond Bar and Chino well, they will be fighting for the 5th and 6th spot becuase they have no bright spots in the near future..

CAN'T WAIT FOR WEEK 1!

Hard to agure with that. Mendrun in his junior year was average at best. A great competitor but really he improved dramatically after going to QB camp. Heard Danny P. went as well. But there's the line backers who have to be replaced as well as a defensive line that tormented offenses all year.

And who will take up Travis' slack? That's almost 80 catches and 1000 yards. Who's the next Marine? And how do you account for Lucero and his magic?

I still believe Damien will come to play ever game but the real test will be the offensive line because if Danny P. goes down, and I hear he's a hell of a baseball player, then who is Damien's backup QB? That's Damien's undoing...no credible back up QBs in the system.

And ultimately Danny P. will have to make a decision....baseball or football? He's got a full ride in one but the other sport comes first. And if you look at Mendrun, at 30 pounds of mucsle heavier, he took a beating the past two years with a seasoned O line and if not for two "miracle" recoveries Damien is sunk.

Should be an interesting Sierra League Football season. No Edmonds, Barbosa, Travis or Mendrun...time for some new stars to step up. And that's the truth about high school sports...there is always someone "new"! Randy it might be Diamond Bar...but my quess is Ayala with that young gun slinger is going to make some noise.

Agree with "What about"

SGV Fan seems to forget that Damien's time was last year while other teams like Glendora was rebuilding. This will be the year of the Tartan while Damien goes through a rebuilding of their own this season. Too many stars to replace all at once on the Damien squad with to little experience. Pertusatti certainly is an outstanding QB, but its going to take much more to compete with this seasons Tartans and Chino Hills. Both teams will be fielding strong and experienced starters. Other than Chino Hills, it seems most other Sierra League teams go through rebuilding periods. The season before last Damien took 4th place in Sierra, then jumped to 1st last season. This season I predict Damien will take 3rd place behind Glendora and Chino Hills (hard to pick 1st and second).

Who will replace Hile? Gomez? Stokes? Harper? Lucero? Marine? De La Torre? Murillo? Travis?

As far as the new QB being better than Mendrun? Really? That means Danny P. will still play defense right? Because he studded up on "D" so who replaces him there?

Hope Morrison has the fire power to replace all those studs?

What about Walsh? Uche? Luiten?...wait that's enough homework for one day. By the way, if Chino Hills is the only threat to you in league...well that doesn't say much about your league does it?

By the way where did all those "studs" sign anyway?

ARAM:

ISN'T THIS GREAT! A FOOTBALL HEADING MAKING IT BIG WITH HITS.... AND ITS AT THE END OF MARCH!

GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

Sorry Sierra league..
Damien's next qb, Danny Pertusatti, is the next Mark Mendrun of the valley. His arm isn't as cannon-like as Mendrun's was, but he can still make all the throws and is very accurate. He is also more of a threat on his feet, this kid can fly.
Damien's offense will still put up 20+ points per game, and with a solid D on the other side of the ball, the only real threat to them once again in league is Chino Hills.

**Note to valley- Chino Hills vs. Damien. Last game of league, for the league title once again. date will soon be posted when confirmed

If you want to compare starting Qb' last year or this year coming up, it's the Damien talent by far.

Your young QB is NOT great and we'll see if he can step up everyday.

hey "Damien Rocks"

All other teams in the SGV did without the services of Jordan Edmunds, some ending up doing quite nicely. While the Tartans will surely miss the very talented Edmunds, they will make up for it in a very experienced and "Brutal" Defense and a great young QB who got quite a bit of varsity experience last season. I'd be more concerned over the talented individuals Damien will have lost. I know your backup QB is extremley talented, but it will take much more in experienced players to take 1st in Sierra this year. Best of luck though, Damien is always an exciting team to play. Don't under estimate the the Tartans young QB. He is an exciting player and enough talent to be the talk of this Blog in the comming months.

You don't get it. All religions are based on fiction, concocted by someone just a bit brighter than the rest of you, feeding off your insecurities, and fears to gain your trust, and money...Your basic con-man.

Do you still believe the world is flat?

Do you still believe the sun revolves around the Earth?

So, why would you still believe the fairy tales spoken thousands of years ago about an all powerful, caring, loving god (buddah, allah, etc...)

How easy it must have been 3000 years ago to bend the ear of a simple, ignorant, sheepherder to your religious cause.

Wake up, and be ignorant no more...

...Or, just keep on watching the catholic church (or any other denomination) as they laugh all the way to the bank for the next millennia.

LA CONQ,
have you even seen the LA football team, let alone the campus?
You are NOT a Conqueror!

Hey Tartans

You better find a back to replace Edmond if you think you'll have any bragging rights! You guys crack me up, already talking you usually crap before season has even started.

I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.

Hate, I wouldn't know about Hitler, I wasn't around back then but I'll take your word for it, you two think alike.

My God IS God.

Sound to me like yours is Allah.

Here's to hoping Mike mcdonough and Aaron Harris
will be playing in this game. These are just 2 amongst many other valley stars hoping to see play.

GO BRAVES !!!!!!!

Hey all you BA bloggers, you are in division 5! If and when you win a cif title at the division five level it should have an * saying we used to be a studly d1 school, but now we can only play in division five. You guys really proud of that?

Hey year of,

Thanks man, Heck I would have dreaded that drive up the hill. That's got to be a last minute schedule fill otherwise why on earth would you do that. Etiwanda I can see but the other..come on.

I still say let's line up with Los Altos and Amat and the South Hills of the world. A brutal pre-season heck yes, but man this isn't badminton baby. Pull wins out over all of them and can you imagine that? That would be very cool.Talk about bragging rights.

Ok time to wake me up now!

Thanks again!

Late!

New York!

It doesn't appear that the Glendora Tartans will be driving to Valencia (SEE TARTAN SCHEDULE IN POST BELOW). West Ranch and, El DO (OC) are HOME games at Citrus College.

Very tough schedule, but the 07 Tartans will rise to the top! Another poster said it best "This will be the year of the Tartan"

The game will be great for the valley, that field is sweet.

hey john,

lets see now that Mr. Wiards wife is no longer the Asst. Principal and his mother will probably be leaving some tme soon. As for Mr. Wiard is an Alumni also from when pride and tradition meant something. All those coaches are gone, the new crop of coaches just speak of pride and tradition they don't know it.

Heck don't be surprised to see Wiard back coaching at Charter Oak where his wife is now the principle and he teaches.

Driving to Valencia will be against traffic, but driving out to Chaffey College for Etiwanda won't be pretty. At least the extension of the 210 has provided some traffic relief.

Re: Glendora Tartans Schedule

Unless things have changed the last several days, here is the schedule:

Covina 9/8 Home

Etiwanda 9/4 Away

Charter Oak 9/22 Away

West Ranch 9/28 Home

El Dorado 10/6 Home

LEAGUE BEGINS

Damien 10/13 Home

Chino Hills 10/20 Away

Chino 10/27 Away

Ayala 11/3 Home (Home Coming)

Diamond Bar 11/10 Away

I believe this schedule is even tougher then last season. Looking forward to playing El Dorado (CIF champ) at our home in Citrus Stadium where they beat CO for the CIF championship. The Tartans will be fielding one of the most experienced, talented teams in quite awhile. Defense will be returning a hell of alot of starters who brutalized many of last seasons number 1 teams. This may be the year of the Tartan! I really hope so as it will be a major rebuilding year the following season.

Hey Mike, where did you see that schedule? I hope your kidding me about that game out in Valenica and why on earth would you agree with that unless it was a last minute deal and or you don't want anybody going to the game. That drive sucks and on a Friday night. And the Etiwanda drive is just as bad I agree with you let's start playing the local schools and pack the stadiums.

I hear Amat scheduled a very talented and Tough Los Oso's team this year for football......

I see both of your points about the "bagpiper" schedule. I tend to me more of a local guy. I'd like to see us hook up with Amat again and play Los Al. I'd love to mix it up with Blu, Joe Amat, Bleeds Blue and Gold (the original of course) MATMTWTBAG and the rest of my buddies at Amat. Just something about local match-ups I like and the rivalries they start.

I know it would be a tough preseason but at least it would give us a chance to see how we match up with the others.

I can't beleive Rowland bailed, anybody know why that happened? We needed to make a statement with them, after we almost embarrassed ourselves with a loss down there.

I know scheduling and contract wise it would probably be tough to do some of those things I mentioned, but I think it would be fun playing some of the other locals instead of traveling to hell and back for a pre-season game. I never did understand the Capo thing...somebody must have known somebody down there or something.

Oh well nothing like a Friday night in beautiful downtown Etiwanda and up in the hills of Valencia....NOT! Oh well sometimes you gotta do things you just gotta do.

I am Out!

Bleeds Blue and Gold

I believe Adolf Hitler was the topic of most discussions back in the 1930's/40's...

...Doesn't necessarily make it a good thing.

In the end, you're all worm food, no matter what false god you pray to.

I am the original Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no substitutions.

I find it amazing that no matter WHAT the subject is, Amat will always be brought up in the conversation. Why IS that? I'll tell you, we have been, are, and always will be the center of attention in the SGV.

So all you crap talkers out there, go ahead, make my day. All you do is give us more credit for our existence. No matter what you say, we will always be #1 and don't you ever forget it.

Amat leads, all others follow.

To just plain stupid,

What's up with your criticism? Local games would be nice, but they have to fit into the schedule too. Covina & Charter Oak games are carryovers (and local, BTW), I understand that we dropped the home game with Duarte because they didn't have a Fr. team to match us last year (and it wasn't such a great game anyway) so we slotted Etiwanda there...good cross valley contest within our division. A nice upgrade. The West Ranch game in Valencia simply replaces our spot with Capo Valley the last couple of years. How's that so different then traveling to So. Orange Co.? The only other spot that was open was game 5. I'm not sure why Rowland isn't coming to play us at home after we played there last year, but I can guess... So we've got a good El Dorodo team coming back to Citrus Stadium (where they beat CO in a lower CIF Championship game). I don't know if an Amat or whoever else was even available that week, but sometimes things just don't fit. Needless to say, this should be a more challenging schedule than even last year's, but watch out for this team. There are some great athletes coming back on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense. There are some real studs at LB and DB and the D-line has some talent returning as well. The offense may look different, but should be very effective. One excited fan here.

to LA CONQ & HATE'S SON ,
For your information we have one the most diverse campus' in the SGV. If you want to make your racist statements I do not believe this is the proper place for them. The both of you are a prime example of the problems with a public school education where no emphasis is put on morals and social values. I will say it again WE ARE THE AMAT FAMILY so if you bash us please include all of us and change your statement from Mexicans to Mankind, because as it says ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL contrary to what you idiots believe.

Bluorca..seriously a Masters? In what? Arrogance !

I thought from reading all your comments you'd at least have a PhD..as in Piled High and Deep!

You are a sad example of a Catholic education. Blog or no blog...class is class and you're an ASS!

Academian: Well said. A+. How anyone could find an angle to belittle Verbum Dei and their clever efforts to serve their community is beyond belief! But somehow Bluorca never disappoints...and that's what's so pathetic about him...Masters and all.

Hey Blu,

If it makes you feel better, I did attend and graduated from Loyola. I like many of my classmates grew up in the city, no silver spoons. I now live in the SGV and have sent my kid to Amat (Class 2010 with a 3.6GPA) to support the local area private school. My comments are strictly meant to benefit the current and future students at Amat. They can do better. Thats all I have ever said. Why is academic mediocrity ok? College enrollment is poor. By the way, the UC system is a public school system, ALL Amat kids should be able to get in.

I have freinds in LA, who have kids at Verbum Dei. The corporate work program is a success and companies are eager to bring in young people and provide that experience. Why belittle such success. Enrollment is not an issue. Think about how many more students Amat could serve (in La Puente, RESPECT and elsewhere) if it did such a thing. This would also generate the needed funds to expand the campus and improve the athletic fields. No loans needed. A corporation may even sponser a field at Amat. VD works with Nike.

"Or how about a nice cottage in the middle of Watts??? I mean...."YA GET WHAT U PAY FOR!" right?" That's a pretty elitest statement coming from La Puente. But you want respect, please.

In regards to Loyola, they didn't have a football field because sports was and is not the priority, academics has always been. Athletic career long or short, at some point you have to fall back on your academics. They also didn't have proper space to accomodate a gameday field. They could have moved the school, but chose to stay in the area to continue to serve the surrounding community. So much for your elitist statements. But go online and look at the new facilities and new on campus field, its coming.

These schools were used as economic examples to prove that success can be achieved, in any environment with the correct approach. I am simply suggesting that maybe Amat's approach should change.

Any moron without a GED can slam another person or another school. That takes no skill.

Finally, I don't know where you got your Masters but the Blog is titled:

Aram Tolegian On Prep Sports ...and Life!!!!

Nuff Said!!!!

BLUCORA

GO GET THAT LOBATOMY! YOU ARE SO FULL OF SHIT AND FULL OF YOURSELF

YOUR BASEBALL TEAM IS IN A VERY WEAK LEAGUE

just saw the new glendora football schedule for the upcomoing season. whoever scheduled that has to have their head examined. Etiwanda one week and then turn around the next and travel up to the Valencia area to play west ridge high school. what ever happened to local non league rivalaries. It would have been nice to see arcadia and temple city back on the sched but i understand they couldn't handle the ass whoppings. didn't glendora playy bishop Amat a while back. that would have been a nice cross towner. but come on westridge high in of all places Valencia.
what morons why would anyone do that?

Once again the haters have to resort to name calling, lies, and yep...even straight up RACISM. I guess that is cost of dominating the Preps Sports Section of the Tribune. With our baseball team kicking butt, I can only see things getting worse. The absolute best thing is that the more these numbnuts bash our school, the more fire is burned into the hearts of our students and our athletes. Your harsh words and unfounded criticisms will only make them study, work, and compete harder. Keep up the good work B.A. BASHERS! IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU THAT AMAT CONTINUES TO DOMINATE EVERY SINGLE THREAD ON THIS BLOG! TY! AND GOD BLESS!

You know whats funny though? None of these morons or their kids attend schools like VD, Loyola, Mater Dei, Servite, etc. If these schools are so great and "SUCH A BARGAIN!" , why are they blogging on here? Why are they not dishing out $10,000/ year or moving out to Orange County? Or how about a nice cottage in the middle of Watts??? I mean...."YA GET WHAT U PAY FOR!" right?

I never knew the SGV was home to so many Trinity League fans. Hell, I should start talking smack about MATER DEI just to see how many Amat haters line up to sniff Bruce Rollingson's anus! HAHAHA!

Why don't you guys show some cajones and instead of comparing and contrasting other Catholic schools to Amat, tell us what school you hail from!!! But you won't...because deep down inside you know what's up. Deep down you know that Bishop Amat is a great institution and will continue to be one as they have been since the school opened.

I never bashed Verbum Dei. I was simply responding to a comment made by a person that bashed Amat and then unfairly compared Amat to Verbum Dei. And then I pointed out and proved, that Verbum Dei really is not a bargain at all because of of the tuition/school size ratio and mandatory work program. That's all! YOU ALL MUST READ EVERY ENTRY BEFORE MINE....DO NOT JUST SCROLL UP TO FIND MINE! I NEVER ATTACK...I ONLY DEFEND WITH STATS! (ok...i can be cruel sometimes too...Forgive me Lord!)

And as far Loyola is concerned....Lancers and Cubs don't like each other. We've been playing each other for years upon years....LOYOLA CUBS ARE FAIR GAME JUST LIKE THE SLIME FROM ST. PAUL!!! Loyola, Mater Dei, Servite, St. John Bosco, Santa Margarita fans talk just as much smack about Amat as we do they...There's nothing wrong with this cuz deep down we all respect each other. This respect comes from the fact that ALL OF US have the balls to schedule not only each other, but some of the best football programs in California. All of these schools have great histories and traditions and we are all ARCHRIVALS!!!

Ok one more thing...Here is an example of a classic Bluorca defense...

LA CONQ ...

First of all, oh highest of savants...The LAST person to be making any Mexican racists comments would be someone from Los Altos! I ran this comment by some friends at the Salk Institute in San Diego as well as some associates from the Pentagon, and we all agreed...it is imperative that you be sterilized immediately for your stupidity.

Second....McBride is indeed fast and talented. I'm sure he'll run circles, ellipses, and rhombuses around CIF Southern Section Powerhouses like Rosemead, Western, and Wilson. Here's to another year of Los Altos having problems filling their home stands to HALF capacity on friday nights AND gaining absolutely no respect from the true powerhouses in Southern California! Cheers!

Ok..I lied...One more...

For the Valedictorian named ACADEMIAN who started this whole V.D./Amat mess and stated that,

"Who beat who and when doesn't matter. Your focuse is all wrong and you are being bamboozled."

UMMMMM...SIR?...I ONLY HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE BUT THE LAST TIME I CHECKED...

THIS IS A SPOOOOOORTS BLOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!

"ON BLUE!!!! ON BLUE!!!! ON BLUE!!!!"

too bad that amat isn't all mexicans, just because they're located in a mexican area doesn't mean that they're mostly mexicans, most students come from other areas out of la puente.

HEY AMAT FANs,

MAN!! Mcbride is fast!!!

With all this bitching now I know why he left Amat.

Keep them coming.

Hates son, got it right.

MATMTWTBAG = Mislead Are The Mexicans That Wear The Blue And Gold

I think Covina Unified has it right: Have a natural field and pay to keep it well maintained. Sure, multiple teams have to share the field, but the expense of great maintenance gets spread over those schools and it is more economic. With state budget cuts, shared fields may be the best solution.

Tuition at AMAT for the 2007-2008 school year is $6840.00 for one student not including books.

MATMTWTBAG = Mislead Are The Mexicans That Wear The Blue And Gold

every student at every school i have ever heard talk about field turf has praised it. it acts like a placebo to them. they think they are faster, more athletic, and overall better when plaing on it, which boosts confidence and raises gameplay. students at schools with natural, poorly kept grass just see it as a dustbowl during football games and too hard for comfort during soccer games. the kids like the turf and hold it highly. end of story...now lets get to the juicy part of this blog and see who everyone wants to see represent east SGV!

Let's see...Charter Oak, Los Altos, South Hills, Covina all play on natural grass....let's put the field turf issue to rest. Just because your have field turf doesn't mean you will get the athletes...I think there is no better place to watch and play a football game more than Covina District Field. The natural turf is well taken care of and the fans are right on top of the action.

BTW, to all the SGV coaches that are going to be coaching on the field turf this summer..enjoy!!!! The turf does get a little hot for the feet...just ask anyone that goes to Claremont HS....

I don't understand all the Bishop Amat bashing. I mean we are in a depressed neighborhood. We are in a depressed state of football. We are in a depressed state of mediocrity. We are in a depressed financial situation. Our administration is depressing. Out students four year college accptance rates are in a depressing decline. If it weren't for the fact that we own the San Gabriel Valley for four depressing high school years what would we be.....depressed!

Jeremy, Great and Blu do not belong in the same sentence

Blu,
great post. I too have always been proud that BA resides in La Puente, and not Diamond Bar or Glendora, etc. Such a great tradition in all facets resides in a primarily latino community, which serves as the anchor to the great prestige that is Bishop Amat.

MATWMTWABAG,
your post however falls in the category of IGNORANCE.
Are you implying that ALL that is public school academia is garbage? EVERYTHING negative comes from the "bowels" that is PUBLIC school
Do you forget that we live in an age where our children aren't safe from sexual perverts IN CHURCH!!

p.s. I've known many Damien, St.Lucy's, Boscho Tech, St.Paul, and BISHOP AMAT kids in my day, and they were some of wildest that I knew.

Bluorca, what's the correlation between 1/5 students and 1/2 tuition? That kind of math escapes me? How does that affect your 4 year college rates? By the way college recruiters admire and respect the work placement program and that's a factor that gets so many Verbum Dei students into four year schools. Imagine the letters of recommendation.

Here's a better number for you to chew on...30 percent, .30...30% that's how many Bishop Amat students go to junior college...they all must be juco tansfers into Division I schools on football or baseball scholarships. Stop your Bishop Amat bragging that train left town and you were not on it....so get with the program and eat some humble pie! I'll buy you the first slice!

Your stupidity has no limits/ Keep talking and maybe a nugget of intelligence will stumble out of your over inflated ego. Loyola owns you. Always will and always has. Verbum Dei has accomplished what you can no longer obtained....the respect of many.

Actually...allow me to correct myself...

Verbum Dei has almost 1/5 the population of Bishop Amat and still charges 1/2 Amat's tuition PLUS mandatory work program.

10 grand is 10 grand at Loyola...

savvy savvy savvy

Again and everyone take notice...

Not one hater here claimed a school...I'm sure all of them attended Loyola or Verbum Dei! hahaha! yeah right!

Verbum Dei has 1/4th the student population of Bishop Amat and yet, their tuition is still HALF that of Bishop Amat. And VD MAKES their students work 5 days out of the month...for what?

To make more money for the school of course...

Again...1/4th population but 1/2 tuition PLUS mandatory work program?

Loyola charging 10 grand/year?

How are you people not getting this?

Mighty Are The Men Who Do Worse Than Their Parents

you proved everyone's point. Rich/Affluent/Spoiled? Maybe the doctors, lawyers and engineers were given their degrees the moment they were born. Any idea the amount of work it takes to achieve that level of success?

As far as the momentary advantage you speak of with public schools in terms of athletics. Look in the mirror. There are 75 Bishop Amat varsitry football players. How many have the grades and talent to go Division I? Of those 75 Bishop Amat football players how many have the grades to go Division I on academic merit?

At parochial schools like Verbum Dei, with they're 340 students, in Watts, they get why their parents sacrifice...and it's NOT to shine on the football field for four + years. As far as the work experience and business relationships Verbum Dei has deveolped be assured that if Verbum Dei had 1600 students businesses would continue to support those numbers. See you can never have enough good people working for you. Maybe that Bishop Amat education never taught you that economic component. You need to check yourself. They are all winners in my book. To disrespect Verbum Dei is to show YOUR ignorance and arrogance.

There are many successful hardworking students at Bishop Amat. Parents who sacrifice and expect the best education money can buy because the local public schools aren't getting it done. But to hear the Bishop Amat bloggers put down every school in the valley because they feel the need to feel superior has to stop.

New Bishop Amat slogan:
Act like Champions and not chumps today !

Lets see Walnut where a student once blew a hole thru his chest with a gun during lunch time and dies in front of everyone.......South Hills Andrew Barnes teacher groping and having sex with Female students.......You public people amaze me with your takes......Amat is private and people cannot come to grips that we sent our children there for their education and their safety........Student athletes..........yes student first Athlete second......Not like you parents who take their kids from HS to HS hoping for a shot of sports glory.......Pathetic Losers all of you who mess with your kids education and transfer them for that gimpse of hope that they get recognized for the next level where those chances are slim and none..........

What is "rich" anyway? That is such a relative term. And why some people always make comments that rich people don't work hard? How do you think they got there? You don't think lawyers, doctors, and accountants work hard?

Bluorca where do I go to replace the Gloden "A" on my forklift!

You are not only arrogance but stupid and ignorant as well. You know nothing about Verbum Dei. That arrogance is what chokes Bishop Amat. Every Catholic school in LA and OC is laughing at you. You got to admit it. You're Division 5 and your girls team is running with the Golden "A" now that you can not hold up your end with the football team. I got an idea why don't you drop to Div 6 and playing Los Altos will be mandatory. As far as influence
