Big game tomorrow for San Dimas/Covina...what do you think?
Posted by: Wily | March 29, 2007 10:03 PM
Aram, very accurate assesment covina does have many, very good players. And they all love and welcome Tyler's Success,it makes us a much better team. No petty jealousies or anything except picking eachother up and ALWAYS putting the team first. As cbfan said they all get along on and off of the field.I dont think cody or any of his family put that blog on,I think it was someone trying to stir up trouble, good luck it wont happen with this bunch.
P.S Cody is a very good baseball player and a great kid.

Those Covina fans have to be the biggest cry babies out of all the schools! So sensitive.
Hey Aram its ok to hype a star but give some prop to the rest of the player who contributed, then you wouldn't have this argument.
Posted by: Robert | March 25, 2007 6:34 PM
Pill getting too much credit, that's funny. Ask yourselves how good Covina would be without Pill? It's OK to have a stud on your team to go with some very good players. It's the kind of thing that puts a team over the top. I'm sure it's not a one-man show, but he is one of the Valley's top individual players. There's nothing wrong with saying it.
Posted by: Aram | March 25, 2007 6:12 PM
There is only one person from Covina that complained about not getting enough credit in the paper, and I doubt if it was the player who put that on here. The Covina players all get along on and off the field and root for each other to do well. As far as this whole subject goes, like "colts are no fluke" said, it's a long season. Whether people think Covina was lucky to beat Northview doesn't really matter. They won 3-2 -- the fat lady left the field on Friday - after she sang. OVER IT!!
Posted by: Coltsbaseballfan | March 25, 2007 4:43 PM
Here and Now,
You care because you keep responding. Once again, no one has insulted your team. Relax, act like you been on top before...seems you might be always on bottom taking it.

Nobody give a rat's ass about last year!
Posted by: here and now | March 25, 2007 11:33 AM
Covina
I wouldn't worry so much about people dissing you, if you look on here, not much bad being said...but I can see the trouble brewing already in the bleachers or among the players when people are crying about who is getting too much credit etc....read back on here...I think it's COvina people saying that Pill gets too much credit etc...and someone feeling the need to talk about a kid who laid down a sac bunt in the first inning etc...sounds like your trouble lies within, not outside. Only a matter of time that the "other" pitcher feels like he's not getting enough attention.
Posted by: Wake | March 25, 2007 11:28 AM
I don't think much is being said bad about Pill at all...He's a good pitcher. If you go back and read my comment, it didn't say he was bad or that Covina was bad. Covina won the game, but not much was said last year when NV beat him twice...true?
Posted by: Wake | March 25, 2007 11:23 AM
Wake
I dont want to hear anything about NV being a young team. They are a very good team, played well against Covina and did have a chance to win. However this is not last year and it does not matter what happened last year. Several great plays were made that did not even get in the paper. The left fielder for covina Marcus Hansen made a FANTASTIC play in left, crashing into the chain link fence and catching a ball that he had no business catching.Brad Gomez hitting the first pitch of the game up the middle to set the tone.David Severin playing great catcher and laying down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over in the first. The aforementioned Mr Pill then getting the first of his two singles. And then Cody lining the ball over the left field wall. There are four teams in the VVL that are in contention and in my opinion not much separates them. It is only one game and it is a long season,so lets not try to make so much of one game.
Posted by: Colts are no fluke | March 25, 2007 8:44 AM
Some of you seem to have a problem with the Pill kid, even though I've read very positive messages about him on here. I guess when you're good, everyone wants to bring you down. What's that old saying about the cream rising to the top? Only time will tell for both the players and teams.
Posted by: oldtimer | March 25, 2007 8:17 AM
NorthviewFan,
Last year's NV team beat Pill twice I believe handidly and they were right there again this year with winning runs on base in last 2 innings. As the team gets a bit more experienced, it will be interesting to see the next game he pitches at them.

If he were my son, you would be hearing a lot more from me than you have.
Posted by: Covinabaseballfan | March 24, 2007 11:42 PM
dont take it personal your son is a good player
Posted by: Robert | March 24, 2007 11:13 PM
In trying to make your point it did sound like a put down to "Mr. Pill". Take it up with the reporter who wrote the article.
Posted by: Covinabaseballfan | March 24, 2007 10:45 PM
About 6 of the starting player for Northview are sophmores, these are not the NY Yankees! A strong junior pitcher like Pill should be able to beat a young team like this.
Last Year a more seasoned Nothview team beat Pill easily, where was the Headline?
Posted by: Northviewfan | March 24, 2007 9:05 PM
The point was not to put down Pill. If you read the article it was one sided, one sentence about Cody and not much about the game. You would have thought he threw a masterpiece. It was just a good game by a pitcher just like many others have thrown in the area and yet you dont read much about them.
Sometimes newspapers like to elevate certain individuals and this was just an example. Cody hit a big homerun and not much about him was said.
Posted by: Robert | March 24, 2007 8:38 PM
I am tired of seeing Lance Boberson get so much playing time. He doesn't even belong in the rotation. I think his Dad donated like $20,000 to the Baseball boosters program last year. It's not fair to Hector Salmatenco who owned him in Pony. That's the problem with parent's who have money and get their way. The adminstration has recieve several complaints but the Principal has ignored the petition. How is it that parent's ruin everything for kids when there is suppose to be fair play?
Yesterday was a good example of bonehead coahing. How Coah Goldadilo has kept his job after what happen at his former job is ridiculous. Is there anyone else who sees what's goning on?
Get a clue and step down! $$$$ won't help your son at the next level.
Posted by: YHS 02 | March 24, 2007 3:34 PM
just a question. If that Cody kid hit a 3 run home run, 2 kids were on base. Do they get any credit cuz if they weren't on base it would only have been 1 run. I think thats why you can't single out players.
Posted by: no rocketscientist | March 24, 2007 3:05 PM
Aram - Forget my question about all of the other posts, they are on the Top Pitchers in the area topic. That is actually the worst as far as the comparisons and stupid comments go. Derek Nichols' comment had class and a "few" others.

Covina baseball fan
Well put, they are friends. Everyone on that team gets along. They pick eachother up and do play well as a team. They are a reflection of their fine head coaches Scott Root and Ryan Merril.Yes Tyler Pill is a leader but he is low key and leads by example, not with empty words but hustle, determination and not a hint of bragging or barely even a word out of him. He goes about his business with workmanlike precision. Cody is also a big part of our team and we have many, many more like him, every body doing their part as a TEAM. Like the old adage goes, their is no I in team.
Posted by: Good call | March 24, 2007 1:41 PM
Aram - what happened to all of the other posts that were on here last night? I also didn't didn't get your "stupid" comment.
Posted by: covinabaseballfan | March 24, 2007 12:49 PM
I didn't even know about this "blog" until I heard about it last night. All this comparing of players is ridiculous. Covina is trying to win as a "team" - remember that word? The comment by a Waterbury friend (or family member) was really low-class and rude. The two boys are team members and probably friends. Unfortunately, like someone posted on here, it's the parents that have the problem. This whole thing is crazy!

Can someone let Walnut Varsity Baseball win a game......What a all time low.....I am getting ready to call the Atletic Dept over there and give them friendly advice on how to run a sports program...
Posted by: alumni | March 24, 2007 7:57 AM
Sorry to tell you this OJ but Wallace was not a boy scout when he was at NV...just ask Gano or Podely...let me ask you another question if MCD is such a aweful kid why did NV try to activly get him to goto school there?..So dont try to tell me how NV is such a character school...and dont be mad at MCD for thumping your program the last two years...if you wanted to beat Covina and MCD so bad, well then you guys should have gotten better! Truth hurts, i know.
The Legend
Posted by: Livng Legend | March 23, 2007 4:30 PM
NV/Covina game was good game. Pill got some big outs when he needed to, but what a poorly called game by home plate guy. He rung up two NV guys early in the game that weren't even close. I think the hype got him a few calls. Make no mistake about it, Pill was on the verge of getting beat, but we'll give credit to him and rest of Covina and move on...We'll be back. Championships are not won in March.
Posted by: Ted | March 23, 2007 12:28 PM
Living Legend,
There is a difference between "Wallace" doing criminal things many years after he attended high school and your "Star" player committing crimes in high school and not punished for them. But don't worry, he's on the right path.
Posted by: OJ | March 23, 2007 10:02 AM
Hey VVL COACHES
Get your stats up on MaxPreps, then we can see all the kids that really perform like Cody did!
Posted by: Colts Rule | March 23, 2007 10:01 AM
The game was won by a player from Covina named Cody Waterbury, he hit a 3-run homer, without him Mr. Pill would have lost.
So Cody is the real hero and yet forgotten. I guess the Pill name carries more weight.
Posted by: Robert | March 22, 2007 9:29 PM
I find it so funny that you make the new football staff look like they have such high stanards. Didn't your head coach get black balled at el rancho(scandel)? Oh ya, and Zavala was also suspended at el rancho for being supid enough getting caught recruiting.
Posted by: covinaboys | March 22, 2007 7:21 PM
Hey raul, NV was ready and awake for this game. They were facing their longtime rival, and tyler pill,we didnt sneak up on them. They were not asleep and they did play good. Two great teams slugging it out.
Posted by: yeah right | March 22, 2007 5:11 PM
Living Legend, the thing about glass houses doesn't ride anymore. Kids like "Mr. Wallace" are no longer a part of the Northview football program with the new staff in place. Best of luck to the rest of the Valle Vista League because I'm sure this loss woke up the Viking Baseball taem.
Posted by: Raul | March 22, 2007 5:08 PM
NHS fan your comment was almost worthy, untill you open up you mouth about the "star football player"...let me say this those that live in glass houses, shall not throw stones!
Fact northview is not exactly abunch of choir boys...a one MR. Wallace who played there a couple of years ago...where is he now you ask? prision! why? murder!
things that make you go hmmm!
So lets keep this thread to what it is about...a good VVL baseball season
Posted by: Living Legend | March 22, 2007 4:56 PM
That was a good game,NHS fan. Tyler Pill is poised and has icewater running through his veins. When the game got tight and the northview fans and players were going wild he remained composed and got the outs needed for the win. You are right about him on and off the field. It is a long season and BP and san dimas will have alot to say about the final standings, however your young crew over there are extremely good and we feel fortunate to escape with a victory.

Too bad it isn't a wrestling blog.......we would have more of you whinig.
Posted by: wrestling fan | March 22, 2007 2:19 PM
I have seen other sports mentioned here Wrestling and swimming...It is a football blog first......basketball and baseball are ok to past the time until we can really get back into football.........popularity rules, dont blame the host...
Posted by: MATMTWTBAG | March 22, 2007 2:05 PM
I dont understand why this blog is so freaking incomplete. Ive been a subscriber for the past 10 years and have been following local high school athletics, but this blog ONLY talks about football, basketball and baseman. That is pathetic. There are so many other sports that deserve being mentioned and debated. Maybe you ought to add bits and pieces of other sports so everyone can enjoy or want to come back to the blog and participate.
Posted by: Tribunesportsfan | March 22, 2007 2:00 PM
It was a good game and The Covina Kid was awesome, I hear he is, on and off the field.
Far cry from their Star Football player.
I don't get your "Stupid" comment Aram.
