I see the Pizza Party idea causes some people "heart burn"...me I'll keep doing what I'm doing right with my kids and leave football alone. Besides most people really don't have a clue what it takes to build a program or to motivate kids..it takes honesty, commitment and sacrifice. By the way my youngest boy was voted "Viking of the Year" on his school's 7Th Grade basketball team this past season. That's alot of "Hardware" in one year! lol

Damien bloggers might not have liked what I said about their program but the truth is I've talked to several parents and coaches and they find it "incredible" that after all the success they accomplished this year NO ONE SIGNED ANY LETTERS OF INTENT. (i.e. FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION) Well too late to cry over spilled milk. All those senior parents aren't blaming me for that as well are they? Maybe now when they ask for advice I'll just say what I should have said all along..."Boy he's good! Never seen a finer athlete!" Next season should be very very interesting.

A performance like MC's starts long ago when his academic habits were formed. We need to start when they enter school and stress the importance of that performance. By the time high school comes around it's pretty late to start thinking about that.

So many chase the "golden ring" when academic aid is the only sure thing. And as you found out, the better the grades the more $$$ you get. Many of the local smaller private schools *guarantee* full tuition for students with high GPAs. We sit here and talk about sports and kids want scholarships, but those numbers are so small.

In Football about 5.7 percent, or approximately one in 17, of all high school senior boys playing interscholastic football will go on to play football at a NCAA member institution.
About 1.8 percent, or approximately one in 50, of NCAA senior football players will get drafted by a National Football League (NFL) team.
Approximately eight in 10,000, or approximately 0.08 percent of high school senior boys playing interscholastic football will eventually be drafted by an NFL team.

In Men's Basketball it's worse:
Less than one in 35, or approximately 3.0 percent, of high school senior boys playing interscholastic basketball will go on to play men's basketball at a NCAA member institution.

As far as my "other" non football playing son Zachary. He's doing just as well and was voted Outstanding Frosh/Soph Wrestler of the Year. He just came back from a wrestling tournament @ Santa Ana High School where he took 1st Place at 189 lbs Freestyle. But never really had the power, speed, strenght or toughness to play football for two years...yeah right!

Either way I'm proud of all my boys and know that people can say what they want but in the end "the cream rises to the top" inspite of the nonsense. My father used to say, "Only an idiot expects to grow oranges with an apple seed." And somewhere in there is the truth about the nonsense I went thru.

You know a "Bloggers Pizza Blast" would have gone a long way towards creating harmony and goodwill within this blog but you know it's never too late and it proibably would help for next season. Maybe Aram would consider writing a piece on the "peace".

i can't believe there was so much hype about LA this early. come on, get at least half way into the season. all high school softball coaches have to play some time or other without their best players. good coaches can over come this. people were talking about sarah farnworth being on her way to d1. you have to be kidding. injuries, grades, family vacations, SAT's, parents, these are all reasons hs coaches don't get their full teams all the time. as for walt martin. i have coached against him for 7-8 years now at the hs level. he would not throw at a hitter period. his pitcher, whom i have known for several years, wouldn't do it either. i guess, if you don't have something to complain about, you're not doing it right...

What an absolute embarrassment for Los Altos to have someone like Tio Gallo publicly throwing a tantrum over this loss. I knew this was going to happen. I knew that if Amat found a way to upset Los Altos, cockroaches like Tio Gallo would be so pissed that they would rip their hairy limbs to escape their hotels, come on here and bitch and complain about this or that.

There was so much hype surrounding this Los Altos team the one would think that they would have been able to beat our lowly Lancers even without the services of Patterson. One of my kids just graduated recently and most of her friends were from middle class families as they were when I attended. Their parents know the value of a good education and sacrifice to give their children that opportunity as my parents did for me. Enough people! Those of you who are acusing Bishop Amat of intentionally throwing at the Los Altos pitcher obviously don't know Amat's coach -- Walt Martin. The former Wilson coach would never order one of his pitchers to throw at another team's player. In fact, I would so far as to say if Walt found out one of his pithers purposely threw at other player, he might suspend or kick that player off the team. There are some coaches in the area, both baseball and softball who might give that order, but not Martin. He doesn't get into the little jealouslies like other coaches. He wants to win, but he's also a huge softball fan and a big fan of the area's athleltics.

It should be noted, however, that amat's only 2 runs were in the top of the first - prior to D-LP getting hit in the bottom of the first. So all the runs were scored prior to the "controversial" HBP.

So definitely a gutsy performance by D-LP, but no matter how healthy she was, she could not have done any better than shutting amat out over the final 6 innings as she already did.

Then rest of the game she's pitching outside. All I know there this girl who works harder than anybody else. Every practice she stays after for an hour or two and works on her game. Injuries are part of playing sports....nothing intentional...You didn't honestly think you were going to go undefeated did you...What better team to do this than our Amat girls...Huge upset LA your team was the team to beat...we were the underdog...upsets happen.. I am sure your girls will bounce back. Remember our girls have lost to some teams they should have beaten but those other teams get up for big games...no differance Bishop Amat got up for this game...you will be back LA.....are you sure you want to play us in football?
