hehe.
Lets cut the CRA- here.....things will never change and this is what America is all about....Racism will always bee here...Blacks vs latinos.....KKK white supremist hating on everyone....Asians / Middle easteners....then we make national holidays for MLK and Ceasar Chavez..then we will make a holiday for a Asian leader someday and then a Muslum etc etc etc...then as Americans of whatever race you are the complaining starts of immigration of even your own race and we build walls and fences and then we ask all the different colors to go lose their lives in Iraq and the change of racism never stops..deal with it we are who we are and as long as we are not education our kids against it ..the struggle will continue....
Can this issue just die already....let it go....CBS did.
Aram,
I believe your comments back on 4/12/2007 are accurate. Although Imus comments were insensitive, I believe that American Society should focus on the issue of using politically incorrect words ALL across the board. It is an injustice to our society that a person of color can sing those exact words and it is acceptable. Point is it should be unacceptable FOR all to use. I have read the rev. AL and JJ speak out against persons such as Imus and Michael Richards, but what of any of the rappers out now? Perhaps society is becoming insensitive on the issue because they see it on music videos and hear it the majority of the music. Just listen to any teenager, he/she is signing about b*&%, H*&, N*%^, etc. If it is to be an issue that is taken serious. I challenge all of corporate america to withdrawal thier support of not only personalities such as Imus, but of ALL rappers which promote the use of such words. However, they are just out to make a $. That is capitalism at its very best!
Another question: Who gave AL and JJ a soapbox? really? and why? What makes them so special? What is thier great contribution to humanity that all of American Society stops to listen. They are not MLK nor Ghandi. Just a couple of guys that the media loves to quote?
frank, right on!---hoops and baseball hasn't been to bad this year....we arent gonna win the sierra league in FB next year, but Chino and Ayala will be sorry they showed up come october...baby steps....maybe a wild card---it could happen, the whole team is coming back year!
i'm hoping we make a run in CIF this spring....may 19th warren high school, 7 pm.....up by the coaches box, c u there bro..
Yeah Randy I will...it will be good to see you again. Love the way you always back Diamond Bar come hell or high water.
Can't wait to see that game,
Frank, May 19th, the keystone cops vs. the drunk firemen---you gonna be there?
Mikey I'll swing on by sometime to see the kid in action seeing as my kid is out this year. It will be a blast to see what the Clone ...cloned...lol
By the way any luck helping out Caoch P? Maybe they can let him hire his own staff and we'll see what happens. The Sierra League will be wide open next year. Chino Hills is the definite favorite but everyone has a chance next year ...even Randy's DB group. Ayala might surprise people. Chino will be back...tooo many pop warner kids to fall off like that...and well then there's Coach P's boys. Maybe playing last year's season did something for the Glendora backers....play outside the Valley to get better and see waht's out there. I wish Damien played an Orange County team. They'll be a mystery until Danny P. hits his stride and they find a running game.
Best of luck.
Can't believe I'm reading some of this. If you go back a couple of years you will recall that DLH has done some pretty scandolous things, but who hasn't? BTW my pick is Mayweather-sorry Jessica
Mike Fan ...Sometimes,
This upcoming season will be his last. hey I'm a realist. He has his Mom's height and he is not as intense as this ”old has been”. I know walking out of Citrus next season on our last home game and the Tartan band playing "Scotland the Brave" will be hard for me. That’s just me. But that's ok he is enjoying his high school experience and that's all I can ask of him and have told him to do. I'm not one of those "travel ball" parents pushing him year round or going to this camp and that camp. Not my style and I have seen what "burn out" does not only physically but mentally. (That’s my opinion folks so don’t come in here going Chernobyl on me.)
It's not about me and whatever decision he makes I will always expect him to be the best or at least strive to be the best at what he does. He knows to learn from failure and to take the lessons of failure and make it a positive.
When his playing days are done I have told him to keep playing golf because you can still get that smell of fresh cut grass and if you play early enough that fresh dew that you once used to roll around on during those early A.M. pactices.
Bottom line…he going be just fine, thanks for asking
The following letter posted by Nike on their website sums it up pretty nicely. It is all ignorance, we are all guilty of it and victims of it.
Thank you, ignorance.
Thank you for starting the conversation.
Thank you for making an entire nation listen to the Rutgers team's story. And for making us wonder what other great stories we've missed.
Thank you for reminding us to think before we speak.
Thank you for showing us how strong and poised 18- and 20-year-old women can be.
Thank you for reminding a sports nation that another basketball tournament goes on in March.
Thank you for showing us that sport includes more than the time spent on the court.
Thank you for unintentionally moving women's sport forward.
And thank you for making all of us realize that we still have a long way to go.
Next season starts 11.16.07
Mike guity...even though Rome is fading fast his influence is still felt.
How'as your boy doing. Is there interest in him for the next level?
Hope he does as well as you.
Ok fair enough i dont wont to argue, dont put money his pocket. Just watch sportcenter that night. AND responed May 6, 2007
EX- Falcon,
I do not gamble. It just makes me sick how a person who is making that much money should treat the media and a Stand up Professional like Oscar with that type of foul mouth...for the people who glorify this behavior are complete idiots with no sense of self respect......again I hope FM gets his ass kicked....I am not going to shell out $54.99 to watch this and put money in that thugs pocket.....Kick his Ass De La Hoya...I will read it in the paper the next day...didn't we have enough with Mike Tyson....let me guess when it is all said and done Pretty Boy will be a loser without money like Mike Tyson Aaron Pryor and Pernell Whitaker...My dad taught me about boxing and this guy floyd is a disgrace to the sport.
jessica,
Go to las vages, the indian casino a internet gambling site are call your bookie. Put your money on DLH. AND responed on may 6,2007
And who was the one that said the Clone was the only one too use the word "Myopic"?
Late!
Mike the Clone
Floyd Mayweather is a punk!...I loved both punches Zab Judah Landed......uncle Roger will end up back in prison.....daddy Predator looks like he is still on drugs......that whole family looks like a mess....then 50 cent...Very Nice image for the African Americans....Oscar always articulate and in control..........I hope he not only beats FM but gives him a beating in the process...Roger will be banned by boxing....Then to steal Oscars equipment bag and say you did it too bad come and get it....that is pure thuggery to the ledgend that is giving you this great opportunity to make some big money....I call this lack of respect and this is ok for a black man to act this way>?....I hope he gets his ass kicked!
Aram you are so right...it was up to the black man and the black man alone for his overcoming slavery, over coming Jim Crow laws and over coming institutuional racism...my question to you , and anyone else, is why?
Why must a people become great by over coming racism?
The bigger question, and the one no one will ask, is why? Why is it so? Why is America so insecure as to face the consequences of their institutional racism? Why must blacks and minorities "grow up, "get on with it", "unburden themselves", "look the other way", "stop crying", "stop making white people feel guilty", "why must any 'white' individual have anything but a guily-less life and history"? "Why must hiring practices disturb the status quo?"
One hundred "whys" One hundred "why" I don't know why. I never knew why and will never know why? Just like I don't know why when anyone of color ask for answers they are told to shut up.
Why is that? HWhy is it that white audiences laugh when Richard Pryor made fun of their racism? Why is Chris Rock so shocking in his analysis of white and black relations..he went to an all white school and was called nigger more times than he cares to mention but now makes white audiences laugh at their kids insensitivity? Why? Because Chris Rock like Richard Pryor before hima and Carlos Mancia and George Lopez do now they "heal" us and "heal" white America....that's it fall in love with us, have our children and then when we are part of you...so apart of you you can not hate "yourself" you'll stop the hate and learn from the book you used to justify your opposition..."What you do to the least of my brothers ...you do unto Me"
Colt sorry if I offended you but hey that's what happens when you drop your guard. My question to you is if no one is racist, because everyone's offended by the "past" and not "present" problem...then why is a black man shot 41 times for reaching for his wallet, a man have a broom stick shoved up his ass becasue he IS black. Were they crybabies? Some one has to be a racists for that to happen don't they...you never had a friend use the nigger word in front of you...is he still your friend?
Colt it ain't about "you" ...you're not a racists on any level....but someone is ...or is it just me?
Like I told Aram before talking about RACE is dangerous. I liked everyone better when we were just myopic bloggers without racial stands ...or soap boxes.
FIN.
God bless all of you. Sermon's over.
"Tony Trujillo" who wrestled at Covina in the 80's is fighting a tough battle and ALL SGV residents and beyond should keep him in your thoughts/prayers as he is an inspiration to any of us.
Great wrestler, but and even greater person....
I know who Jason Whitlock is, I agree with what he says. I'm not a racist, Maywheater might talk to much but oh well, he will win the fight i work around all white and latino in the OC. Not a single black person. I'm good thought. My co-worker a super cool. But I am who i am. As far a the "Ghetto ass" who care, its about the fight. I want to no my history. I wont to know better thing about my culture if that make me a racist. so be it!
I think it was Whitlock who also said that he hopes all this fellow African Americans realize their fate is in their own hands, and not some white guy's hands somewhere else. I think that can be used for all races. Your destiny is only up to you!
Ex- Fal,
Well I did see the countdown last nite and to be honest Floyd is trash talking out of fear...you can almost sense right away that he is in over his head and the only way out is to trash talk...I see him getting KO'd...plus there is already controversy Surrounding PB camp with Roger and Floyd senior....too many distractions and too many cooks in the kitchen....PB camp did not look serious at all and I think they have conceeded the fight before it goes down due to the large paycheck they will make..they dont care of they win or lose they are in it for the money.....I am a African American and he is acting like a fool.....that 2 champange glass salute was totally foolish...sad day when I have to face my Mex. Co-workers if he does not back up all the smack he is running.........very unprofessional.
j-rob,
YOU WHERE A FAN BEFORE THIS FIGHT, DONT WORRY TIME WILL TELL.
Now, now , now Ex-Falcon ease up. That's what started this whole thread at the very beginning.
If j-rob used "ghetto ass" all racial hell would break loose.
Jason Whitlock, an African American columnist for the Kansas City Star made a couple of great great statement today. He said, "you only get exploited when you open yourself up for exploitation" and "you will never get any more respect than you give yourself"
Think about it.
NO BASEBALL RECORDS SHOULD COUNT BEFORE 1947! WHY? BECAUSE SOME OF THE BEST PLAYER WHERE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY.
Everytime a topic is focused on racial divide or opinion is when I start to see my friends and neighbors as people of a different color instead of the individual person they really are, I cant help it since I have our obvious differences pointed out to me through the media. Of course the media is just doing their job, some bonehead shock jock makes a comment similar to other derogatory comments that he has made daily for 30 years but since its a slow week for news it becomes big press and I cant avoid it.
I now know who Don Imus is thanks to his publicity staff of Jessie and Al (Good job guys you deserve a bonus) and also remember that we all have differnet colors of skin again. I really want to thank Jesse, Al and company for reminding me that I am white and my good friend over here is black, brown or whatever other skin color he or she is, how I was overlooking this before escapes me. We were getting along so well, what was I thinking?
To my friends and neighbors of different skin colors I want apologize for being brain washed by all of this, I need to let you know it will go away as soon as the story does. It wont pop up again until the next racially divided topic comes along and during the time in between I can again look at you for what you really are, my friend, neighbor and a really decent individual.
AnyMouse...
Put your money where your mouth is! His ghetto ass is going to beat dlh.
EX-falcon,
Nice representation of Your Pretty boy Floyd Mayweather last nite on the HBO countdown to the fight....see this is what make african americans look bad...That trash talking was very ghetto and low life then you have uncle Roger looking and acting like he is still on drugs...then you take Oscar..cool as can be and all business....for those of you who missed it see the replay of this countdown and see how PB floyd makes a ass out of himself and then throws in Fidy cents and it get even more pathetic....I hope Oscar takes him out and shuts him up so then Jessie and Al can come in and say how mistreated Floyd was etc. etc. etc.
Mike the Clone,
I actually had a good discussion with Nogales AD Bruce Alley and baseball coach John Romano about Scully. It was awesome. I feel like you do, when Vin is done, it's going to be very hard. I just love his stories. He told the one about Khalil Greene's name twice over the weekend. Awesome!
And I know I'm getting old because I was listening the other night and started to nod off during one of his stories. My stepdad and dudes his age, they last about two innings before they're fast asleep.
Colt Alum
You got it going! You have the right to your thoughts regardless if there are some who keep taking about the passed.
Just goes to show you have some blacks still can't move on!
As one blogger just wrote, go see The Last King of Scotland" and it might change the content on this blog!
Speaking of baseball and to change the subject a bit....did any of you guys notice the standing ovation Vin Scully got yesterday during the Robinson pre-game.
That was awesome and he looked taken-back by it all. What a sad day it will be when we lose Vin.
Out!
Mike the Clone
Isn't it divise in itself for MLB and the media to breakdown the racial quota of the game? Isn't it just as bad of a thing that the number of "whites" playing basketball is dropping/has dropped a lot further than the number of African-Americans playing baseball? Why does it matter? The sports world doesn't need racial quotas!!! I don't sit there and watch an NBA game saying "It sure would be better if the Lakers had more white dudes on the team." And I don't watch the Padres and say "Why aren't there more black guys on this team?" OK, maybe the Pads were a bad example, because I actually do wonder that ... but anyway, you get the point.
Anonymous,
Football is easier to play 2 on 2 in the yard than it is to get together a slew of kids and go to the sandlot. It just is. Football has blown up in the USA, as has basketball. It just has. My take on football is this...Anyone can watch football. It's stimulating to the average person. It's easy to follow and there's instant action on every play, whether it be a great catch, punishing contact etc...Basketball has become a icon type thing with Jordan...One of or the greatest athlete of all time can do that to a generation...don't limit the affect that MJ has had on society...It's alarming how BIG he is. I admit, I had the original Jordans and basketball is my 3rd favorite sport. Baseball is interesting. I listen to people all the time that say, "It's boring". It's a game in most cases, you'd have to have played to understand all the little games going on within the big game. It's just too hard to explain...Every great while you see someone that just loves it and goes the extra to learn all the little games that are being played in the big game. I'm a baseball guy all the way, but that's what I think is the reason for the decline.
Riles,
I agree with some of your points, but why is it easier to organize a pickup tackle football game than it is to play sandlot baseball?
My point is that young African-Americans in the 50s and 60s looked up to Jackie Robinson and 25 years after he broke in, the numbers were high. What happened in the 80s and 90s to cut that to nearly 1/4 of the numbers today?
Is it just the growth of basketball? Or is it something else? Who did they look up to then? Just wondering?
Is there racism, yes. Do we live in a racist society? No. Are there murderers? Yes. Do we live in a murderers society? NO. Are there rapists? Yes. Is this a rapist society? NO. Are there child molestors? YES. Is this a molesters' society? NO. As people, we make general blanket irresponsible statements that are not true. 95% of people don't do the nasty above mentioned things or support them, it's always the 5% that do these things that generate all the buzz. If you're offended or been treated indifferent, you have the right to be upset, but to accuse a race as a whole is baseless and I have no respect for you. History is real, learn from it, agree or disagree with it, love or despise parts of it, but above all, do something positive with it for the sake of future generations.
Baseball is a business. Baseball is not the reason that only 8% of its athletes are black. If black baseball players were out there, teams would snatch them up in a second. Heard a great stat on the radio today...70-80% of NBA and NFL is black athletes. Those organizations are doing well, the black athlete sells very well...That's where a lot of potential baseball players are...We can reverse the question and ask "Why aren't there more white or latino basketball or football players?" I'm white, but have no problem watching the Lakers or any other teams that have low representation of white players. I like the team. It doesn't matter to me if there is a white guy out there. Another perspective, baseball can be a very athletic sport depending on the position you play or what kind of player you want to pattern yourself after, but basketball and football as a whole, requires more atleticism to compete on a professional level. That's not a slight, just truth. Baseball on the other hand, is a slower paced game that requires a ton of mental strength because of the amount of failure that even the best players endure...In a nutshell, it's not for everyone. Also, easier to organize a pickup basketball game or tackle football game in the yard than put together a baseball game...Kids grow up playing bball and football in the yard.
Just to offer some perspective from the "other side" as well - I've sat across the desk from a pretty good friend whom I interviewed with and he said, " You clearly are the best candidate for the job...but I need to have a black guy on my staff"
He was probably right. Given the climate at the time and the makeup of his staff, it was necessary to make that hire. And I went on to a better job, the guy he hired lasted one year and flopped....and we remained pretty good friends. What good would it have done me to feel sorry for myself?
So it does happen both ways, and sometimes I suspect, more often than you might expect.
Humphry. I've never heard anyone here lie and say that racism doesn't exist. Sadly it does. And far too much. Racism in any form is wrong. Period.
I truly believe that it is a two way street. Maybe someone has been wronged in the past but to hold the shield up and automatically think that everyone else is going to treat you the same way is just as wrong. And holding my neighbor accountable for what someone on the next street over did is wrong too.
Racism won't go away by sweeping it under the rug. It can only start with dialog and understanding. Will I ever truly understand what it feels like to be discriminated against because of the color of my skin? No,and how could I possibly? I can only imagine the tip of the iceburg as to how it must feel. Does that mean I don't care? Not in the least.
I've offered my views on how to help stop it. I'd love to hear an African Americans ideas. So far I've only heard that my ideas are wrong. Lets hear the right ones. Please...by all means.
Speedy..."Those" feelings? What are those feelings?
You mean the feelings I get of watching someone walk around with a chain hanging off their neck that says "Feel sorry for me? You are the root of all my problems? It's all your fault!" or watching you carry that 300 pound cross that you feel someone else placed on your shoulder? Carry the cross all you want but that's your choice. You put it there yourself. Don't for one second ask me to feel sorry for you. And don't for one second even suggest that I put it there.
I love it! Your fathers just a kidder right like you said? If a white person cracks a joke about a black man or red man or brown man or yellow man he's a racist. Truly hilarious! You showed where your self perceived persecutions were originated from. Sad. But I guess that's how it's taught.
You are seriously pathetic in every sense of the word. Oh wait..is pathetic a racist remark now too? I've lost count on what I can say or think that someone wouldn't consider a racist remark. I mean there are probably according to you so very little that isn't. Please publish a book as to what us whiteys can and can not say. Make one on what we can think too while you are at it. And publish one on apologies that you feel we should all spew in your presence.
I won't apologize for anything I have posted here. I don't need to.
Get it? Get what? That you are more biased against any race other than your own than anyone I know that could possibly be biased against a non white race? Yes...that I get. Loud and clear.
Catch up? Catch up to what? Being a narrow minded blame everyone racist as much as you are? Never going to happen! You can thank my parents for that. They never taught me racism like your did.
I could actually give a rats ass if you like me less because my views are not the same as yours. They are my views and views that I developed over 51 years of observations, conversations, and reading comments by self perceived persecuted people like you, that think I should think the same way as you do. And if I don't then thinking I'm a racist. Or that I don't get it.
I won't begin to tell you what to think. I have only offered suggestions in my previous posts. I will suggest that you pull your head out of your ass and stop trying to tell me what I get and don't. Or what I should.
I don't get people like you that feel racism received in every pore of their body and want to put the blame on every one else when to help stop it all they need to do is look in the mirror. Yup..that I sure don't get.
I hear home depot is having a lumber sale this week if you need to build a bigger cross.
Joe this may be the start of a wonderful relationship. Well said.
Maybe everyone will stop pretending that racism doesn't exist...at least stop telling people the level of "acceptable" racism is all I'm saying.
Imagine Germans complaining that Jews can't move on and mention how many of them drive Mercedes Benz as proof of improving race relations.
Let's talk about the greatness of Kobe instead of the weakness of skin color relations....50 points on 25 shots and 1 turnover....move over Jordan...Kobe's just getting started!
Classic comment..."after 142 years of being blamed by 99.9% of an entire race"...
Wow.
Had to come back to that sentence..142 years? Now you've been the "burdened" one...oh yeah that's right...The 'famous"...White Man's Burden....of course...poor baby.
You eat their food, mimic their culture, love their athletes, covet their women but "hate" them for being "crybabies" ...That's why they RAP...Fight the Power!! Fight the Power's that be!!!! Come on move those hips and bop that head....white boy style!!!! And a 1 and a 2...lol
On second thought this ain't so depressing after all!
"Speedy",
We all have the "right" to complain or "fight back" and everybody has "freedom of speech". However, neither of those are protected from consequences and if I bitch and moan on the job I am just as apt to get the boot as the next guy. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. That's all I'm saying. that's what earned Jackie Robinson the respect of many. Does anyone dare call him a coward?
Now nobody in their right mind can condone Imus' comments and they certainly are punishable. We cannot determine if they are fireable - only his employer. We are not privy to any behind doors conversations that, I'm certain, that he has had during the years of outlandish radio commentary. But nobody was outraged a couple of years ago when he called Jillian Barbarie a "whore" for the way she dressed on the FOX NFL pre game show. He is paid to be shocking. I'm sure that his employers encourage that - to a point. He finally stepped over a line with advertisers, because of the public outrage, and they pulled their dollars. We all have the "right" to turn the station , not listen to him, and give hime NO credibility (or ratings) THAT"S fighting back too. Money talks, hence the firing.
Unfortunately, as you state, many son's of "nappy headed ho's" (figuratively) have fought for the right for Imus to say what he did - and for our right to have other options and turn the station to listen to someone else.
Colt Alumni...sorry to see you have those feelings. Jackie Robinson's wife is still alive...see her at Dodger Stadium?
Maybe it wasn't "you" of your great, great great great great great grandfather after all...seeing as she's still alive and Jackie Robinson died in 1972.
No one needs to have this conversation because it ends the same way it began. "You'll" tell "me" what to think, when to forgive and when to forget. I on the other hand just want you to stop. Maybe you won't get that but that's all it is. I liked you better when I didn't know "this" about you. Too bad.
I wonder why all "my" heroes are great because they overcame "your" nonsense. Medgar and Martin are just the face and voices that were silenced by those that wanted to maintain what...the right to treat "humans" like ...like what. Less than human.
That's what offended people about Imus..."nappy headed " brought back the slave references of slavery and degredation of the South. Is that really such a reach? Like I said before would you allow anyone in your presense to call the Bishop Amat girls "nappy headed holes"? Really...they deserve that? That's the issue...it was offensive and should have been to ALL Americans..not just those of minority status.
But what were they really saying that offends you today...."just stop". That's all. Just stop making Blacks and minorities deal with "it". There "it" doesn't have a name, has never been committed by anyone and doesn't exist today. No one's telling "you" what to think, when to apologize or who's to blame...they are just trying to get by with out the crap.
Maybe you don't get "it". My son's admission status is always "undeserved" and "cheaped" ...why because he doesn't have blue eyes? It's so much non sense Colt but hey that's life in America...just like it was when I was accepted to Cal. Luckily for me all my friends had brown eyes and were just happy for me. Too bad after 4 hard years of work my son didn't get the same response...and still doesn't.
I like what my father used to tell us at the dinner table..."We've been here 15 years and in that time we own our home, you are all in private school and you all drive your won cars...why wouldn't they hate you...they've been here 200 and still live in trailers." He meant it as a joke ...but really he was just preparing us for crap like yours.
Have a nice time trying to catch up.
Joe Amat...having the "courage NOT to fight back"...it was never about courage ..it was about the "right" to fight back. You take that right away...no matter how you "cloak it" and it's NOT Freedom....let's talk sports....THIS IS DEPRESSING.
On a lighter note...hear the one about a couple of "crazy" religious guys who flew a couple of planes into a couple of buildings? Well we got so pissed we killed 100,000 thousand people that looked just like them...hahahahaha. It gets better...you ready for this....we lied to the American peopel to make it happened.....and the puch line is .....we're making billions doing it!!!! I know ...I know..."it" could never happen...but it's funny as ..."How do you reduce a human being in half? .....LOOK THE OTHER WAY.
Someone better stop me ...I'm "cracking" myself up.
A couple of random thoughts:
To paraphrase the famous Branch Rickey/Jackie Robinson conversation that led to his signing with the Dodgers,
"Are you saying that African-Americans should not have the courage to fight back?"
"No-the courage NOT to."
Jackie's courage to let his play on the field do the talking caused the first generation of young black ballplayers to grow up with him to pursue baseball as their sport of choice. To the tune of nearly 30% of all Major League players in the early 70's.
Since then we have the mentality of the entitled "40 Million Dollar Slaves" (not my term - a best selling book) and we find a low 8% on MLB rosters, add to that the influx of foreign players in the NBA and the discipline for the arrests in the NFL and you can see that the attitudes clearly must change.
And it is not necessarily a racial thing. Think of the bitter, middle-aged white guy at your place of business that is always complaining. He doesn't endear himself to management either. It's the attitude - not the race.
and a little unrelated, but a thought anyway:
"White Man Can't Jump" - funny title for a funny movie
"...black men can't swim..." fireable offense
Medgar and Patrick
Correction: The Last King of Scotland" I was so disgusted, I forgot the title! LOL
Medgar & Patrick
See the movie " The Last Lord of Scotland " then come back on this blog and bitch about 142 years ago.
Those stats are only 24 years old and killed over 300,000.
Another thing Medgar... Since you watch the History Channel so much did you happen to catch any of the shows about the whites that were also kidnapped from England and Europe and sold into slavery on the Gold Coast? Tens of thousands of them. Or the shows on Slavery where it discovered that the Chiefs of MANY tribes sold their own people into slavery? Or did you just happen to miss those?
Every race has things in there PAST that I am sure they are not proud of. What makes any person great is their ability to not dwell on the past and to help build the Future. By remembering the PAST we can help assure that it never happens again. By living in the PAST we can never take that next step forward.
I don't care what your or my great great great great grandfathers did. I care what our children do.
Medgar....
Instead of thinking that white people are so insensitive how about thinking of them as possibly desensitized? I mean after 142 years of being blamed by 99.9% of an entire race for every possible thing that has OR IS going to go wrong with their lives...day in and day out.
Maybe some people are still waiting for that 142 year old chip on their shoulder to fall off? Possibly.
If anyone has a problem with someone or something that they may have done...take it up with them. Don't blame an entire race. Or expect an entire race to apologize.
It seems more and more that if a "black" ( your quote )stubs his toe in the middle of the night it is because of a "white" man....because he made the furniture and the light bulb? How about taking responsibility for your own life and stop blaming my great, great, great, great, grandfather and all his descendants...and his neighbors, and the mailman, and the water delivery guy, and the auto mechanic.....because they are white.
I never owned slaves and or wore a sheet so if you are waiting from an apology from me it will NEVER happen. Ever.
Good thing Imus and this topic brought out the "best" in all of us.
I'm embarassed for most of what's been said. Jackie Robinson should be proud.
When I hear a "white" man tell "blacks" and "minorities" to stop crying I wonder why they would be so insensitive...then I think if I had a history as jaded as "white" America does and has in reference to inter racial relations I would continue to call it "crying" instead of admitting to "hurting" anyone.
Simply disgusting.....let's just continue to talk sports instead of showing why "NOTHING'S CHANGED"...at least it's more covert....
Hey ....where are all the "niggers" at? ...appropriately....in the minds, mouths and actions of "white" men and women...your grandfathers and grandmothers.
Shame has no where to hide...except when it exposed.....shame on all you bloggers for coming in here and "twisting" this to show your racist bent. Just a question ..."How did you stop being racists...as a nation, a people and an individual....all over night?"
Didn't seem like you'd be able to change your ways so quickly...at least after what I saw on the History Cahnnel...must have been some sort of secret "White Man Unburdening" party...you know where they burned all them white sheets and white crosses...since no one needed them anymore....wow now if they could just get some film over to FOX TV it would really help...seeing as I missed the "meeting" when I stopped being "white" after 1972...God I miss being "white" ...well there's always a "European Vacation" to solve THAT!!!
Bang....racism's dead.
how bout we talk about some sports
well said colt alumni.
Something else I thought of and forgot to throw out there....
If a person of black skin color had a great, great, great, great, great grandmother or grandfather from Africa they want to call themselves African American. No problem with that.
If as they are claiming, the first humans came from Africa..then would that not make us all here right now technically African-Americans? And if that is so can we not just drop the African part and just call ourselves Americans?
just a though to ponder.
First...Imus is/was/will always be an ass. Should he have been punished for his stupid remark. Yes. Fired No.
I was a Human Resources manager for a major Aerospace company out in SoCal and when ever I hear about a "racist" remark I always flash back to the times I had to "council" a African American employee ( male and female ) for calling a white co worker "Cracker " or "Saltine " or using that to describe their "attitude ". And it never failed ( 100% of the time ) that the first words back were "I didn't mean anything by it...I was just kidding!" I always came out of those counseling sessions with the same first thought. Whites are racists and blacks are kidders. How silly of me to not have known this before. And to keep the stats updated I never ONCE had to council a white co-worker for using any sort of defamatory remarks against an African American co-worker. Not in 12 years.
I was born and raised in Florida. It don't get any more southern than that. I've seen racism myself from B-O-T-H sides. Grew up and lived smack dab in the middle of it.
As long as people think of themselves and keep referring to themselves as different there will be racism. If you call yourselves white, or you call yourselves black, or you call yourself anything other than a person there will be racism. As long as we continue to to place some obscene weight on where we were born or where are parents were born and wear that as some bright shiny badge for others to see their will be racism. I find it highly asinine that we want to let everyone know how different and special we are because of our "Heritage" and then take offense because another person feels the same way about their "Heritage". IMHO Heritage and Ansestry are too overrated and causing more problems than good. My family is from England and came over on the Mayflower. We are related to William Bradford. Other parts of my family were here to meet them with arrows in their butts. That and $2.95 will get me a cup of Starbucks coffee. Big yip! Personally it doesn't mean squat in my life...and why should it? Seriously?
We refer to people with red hair as redheads...we refer to people with yellow hair as blondes. Black people call people with white skin whites and people with white skin call people with black skin blacks.
When we start calling each other people, and neighbor, and friend and stop trying to fit each other in a category or demand our own little niche, racism will have a chance to disappear. Unless we learn to do that we will be having this same conversation 142 years from now. And then 142 years after that....
This is what it has come to! OJ, personaly i think race was apart of him getting off. But oj had money to get the best lawyers. But how soon we forget, Robert blake killed his wife at a resturant in broad daylight but he had a great legal team. It just a little differnt when a black kills a white women then a white man kills a white women
How do you figure race had anything to do with it? In actuality race had very little to do with the actual trial. Nonetheless, if OJ did it ,then he should go to jail.

Just go to show how far America has not come with the race issues..........african american believe they have the right to play the race card every opportunity they get based on the fact that they suffered during the slavery days so we as non black americans are held hostage to that when it becomes a white black issue. OJ was proof of that. He played the race card and he won his trial.....the Browns and the Goldmans to this day cannot touch OJ or his money...reguarding Jessie Jackass and Al not too Sharpton these guys will jump on anything anywhere anytime right or wrong to promote unfairness to black people but as one other blogger stated you never see them come out when the shoe is on the other foot...
Another thing, not that i havent already stated it. I dont just simply believe EVERY damn thing i hear from tv, whether it be Congress, White House, or wherever! If you want to post ignorant post by believing everything you hear and see.......More power to you!
Patrick
That’s great you own a home and have a full time job. Who cares! Doesn't fit, not the point.
But.. If you're going to make statements about "Whites Females" with absolutely no facts on the current situation in America today, you better do your homework FIRST or take the time to research some facts. You certainly have time to write on this blog, so your job and owning a home shouldn't get in the way!LOL
You continue to amaze me with your intelligent dialog
Interesting, cause i dont even know any blacks personally that are on welfare , for that matter ive never met any other blacks on welfare, so i basically didnt agree with how Commensense got off stating such a ignorant post about blacks being the lowest graduation or having the highest rate of crime.
What about that did you not understand ?
exfalcon, wanting to help your nephew become a better person is commendable. Fighting adversity is noble. I just hope there will be or is a time that you won't see white people or any other people as your enemy...because truth be told, I've met more black racists than white. I have friends of all cultures and it seems its OK to be racist IF YOU ARE BLACK. That's wrong. If racism is wrong, its wrong for EVERYBODY, not just white's or asians or hispanics. I wish everyone happiness, peace and love. I wish more people of color would realize that white america isn't your enemy.
if you're wrong, you're wrong. hey, i've always had a problem with spelling and grammar. But the truth is we don't have a sense of community as black people. check the stats: black people are not the only people on welfare. I don't know anyone on welfare. Go to a welfare line see who is in the lines. the issue isn't my spelling. it's the comments that I read, and will continue to respond to. Oh well, i spell crappy. i would much rather help my nephew be a better person. I will continue to use the same NAME EX-FALCON even when football season comes back. everybody else is using fake names. But whatever. Black people have a self-hate complex to the point where we think the lighter you are the better. I know alot of africans. 95% are in school or have finished school. it has nothing to do with being black. it's an old mentality that we have.
P.S. i think we need to come together as a black community and assess the problems, not just a bunch of people telling us that slavery is over and to get over it!
No excuses here just bad grammer but you get the point.

Nice sentence structure! I guess the whites are to blame for your English and grammer skills.
LOL..........

Still crying about the past! Excuses are for babies! Go to school and learn how to spell!
the staement below is ex-falcon
History lesson,
Wow i cant even beleive you made a stupid staement like that, the country abolished slavery in 1865 that 142years far from two hundred. Plus there were some many policy in place that held alot of black down. JIM CROW segergation, YOU idiot My parent grow in up the south remeber balck bathroom white bathroom. that less the 50years ago. the kkk running whole police dapartment, I watch the history channel and read.
If the black community is racist what is the white community. We dont have organztion That preach stright up racism (kkk and the neo-nazi).
The same people that my parents grow up with run those companys you we all work for.
Some black might be racist but, "Were there a tree there is a root". Remember that!
We study history so we dont make the same mistake.
Maybe you should have not droped out of school in the 8th grade.
They call it HISTORY for a reason...
Just that! Its history, get over it, quit crying about it, quit blaming others for the past, 200 years ago doesn't change things today.
Same old poor crap from the racist black community.
Big Al and Jesse are the biggest racist hypocrites I have ever witness. Take care of the skeletons in your own closets before casting blame on others!
Patrick

Your turning the focus on the wrong this. I dont hate white people nor blame them for all my problem. But you have to say that are past in this great country is not that great, I use to go tho class in elementry and high school and wonder why we talked about one black person every single year, DR Martin luther king. I didnt understand then but i understand now. It simple because he spoke on non-violence witch is cool. But didnt this great country stand up to england in the revalutionary war? I can see you did some research last night on the internet. 1984 rigth? we didnt have the technoloy we have today, i not say it was right what he said, but it been more then 20years ago,And as far as his personal life i could care less. The president had a affair. I admit the duke rape case was handle wrong from the start. Only the district attorney has the POWER to file a case. Jesse jackson and al sharpton dont have that power. I'm not saying what they did was right either i would hate one of those duke lacroste player.
Last but no least,
Your buddy imus has been doing this for year with the racial quotes. I dont have time unlike to make a research paper at 3:32am. But the diffence is ths era. The Internet era instinct Gratification. like that frozen burrtio you ate last night while wrighting your term paper for a blog. Plaese understand if MSNBC ar CBS thought that they could make the same amount are more money they would not have fired him.
That is comical those who think Jackson and Sharpton are anything less than opportunists that HATE the white man. I love how black people make my argument for me that there is so reason for dialogue, because NO MATTER WHAT, they are always going to think the white man is out to get them and that we are the enemy. For those who think Jesse (I had a kid with someone who wasn't my wife) and Al (I am going to jump on any issue someone black is involves and NOT any other race) is this tid bit I saw.
Wrong Vs Right
Today Don Imus was fired for calling the Rutgers University basketball team "nappy headed hos". Sure, that was inappropriate, but did the punishment fit the crime? Maybe we should look at the two guys who pushed this issue until Imus was fired.
Jesse Jackson says it's a question of morality, and what's right and what's wrong.
Just so we're clear:
Imus Calling Black Women "nappy headed hos": Wrong.
Jesse Jackson calling Jews "Hymies" and referring to New York as "Hymietown" : Right. (Washington Post, 1984)
Imus Calling Black Women "nappy headed hos": Wrong.
Jesse Jackson having an affair and Impregnating Karin Stanford, then using rainbow coalition funds to pay her $40,000 and purchasing a $365,000 house to keep her quiet: Right
Jesse Jackson not paying child support for this child, and not visiting her: Right
Jesse Jackson Saying Duke La Crosse Rape Suspects who have been aquitted "deserved the negative attention" because they weren't acting morally by hiring a stripper: Right
I'm glad we have someone with strong moral values like Jesse Jackson to make sure nobody makes racist jokes on radio stations!
Thanks for showing us what's right and what's wrong Jesse.
And who can forget Al Sharpton, another strong moral figure who knows the power of words:
After District Attorney Steven Pagones failed to prosecute white suspects for raping a black girl (because evidence showed the story was fabricated) Al Sharpton accused Pagones Himself of raping the girl. Pagones successfully sued him for Defamation. Right
But it gets better:
Imus Calling Black Women "nappy headed hos": Wrong.
In 1995, Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the plans of Freddy's Fashion Mart, a Jewish-owned clothing store, to expand into a black neighborhood. Sharpton told the protesters, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Three months later, an armed protester forcibly entered the store and burned it down, killing himself and seven others. Right
Thanks Jesse and Al for showing us what's right and wrong. I'm glad we can finally see the light now. I'm glad you guys stopped this guy, and all his charities for sick and homeless children, that will now dry up. Thanks guys!
al sharpton and jesse jackson that all i hear, Has anybody in this website ever heard a speech from one of those two gentelmen? i doubt it, Everything you have heard is stuff you hear from FOX NEWS CHANNEL ARE KFI 570. You dont know there agenda, what there fighting for, nothing, to blame al sharpton and jasse jackson for what happened this past week is just stupid, your focus has been altered from the real problem.
rapnation,
You wont me to make larry elder and armstrong william and larry elder my hero? Why because they agree with what you agenda , I listen to larry elder he is a shock jock, he lost 100%. Credibility when he said that if your black in one of donald sterling building you should just move. (donald sterling said " i dont rent to black are mexican people" in case you dont know he owns the clippers) he is a joke. I guess you cant be bright articulate if you don think like that? make sense to me!
MY last word,
i was talking to my mother last night, she is in her late 50's and grow up in eastern texas jim crow segergated south, she told he a story we she was 10 are somewhere in that are group a white called he a "little nig** who**" and she rembemer this to that day, you dont think in the technogoly age that those 8 young women will rembemer that?
stixs and stone my ass!
Greetings I’m Mike the Clone and you are NOT!
With That Said…
For the last week I have been seeing all the B.S. flying around here. And you know it makes me sick.
You “button wearing” Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson honks are nothing but “racial arsonist” you fan the flames of nothing other than some old fart saying something stupid. And you idiots run with it…………..congrats flame throwers you got an old fart fired. Whoopie! big frecking deal.
How many of you had heard of Don Imus before last week? He is an East Coaster basically and the f-ing opportunists “racial arsonist” Sharpton & Jackson jumped on a band wagon and made this guy an issue.
Hey you dopes…this guy is coming back and is going to make more money on satellite radio or somewhere else just like Howard Stern.
Don Imus is a jackass, but you whom buy into Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson’s extortion should be ashamed of yourselves.
Mr. Sharpton, congratulations…instead of Rutgers the team that lost in the finals of the Woman’s NCAA Tournament 2007 you have branded them for the rest of their lives by some old man’s stupid comment as the “nappy headed hoes” that lost to the Vol’s that year.
Moral of the story… be careful for which you wish for Mr. Sharpton you created a mountain out of a mole hill.
Way to go Al!
Blast Away.
I am Out!
Mike the Clone
Don't remember where I got this, but it seems appropriate here. I guess that it probably could go under any blog entry.
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.
The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.
Moral:
Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.
Don’t judge life by one difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time

David Duke,
Shut up. Sorry, but you can't blame me for "the racial divide." And by the way, this was/is a sports story. Kick rocks, or go back to changing your name every other post.
geez Aram thanks for opening up the "racial divide" even more....sports remember?
Back at ya . I dont need to do any homework because i have a full time job and own my own home. The bigger point is, we could all point out statistics and say this group is that and that group is this.....but how is it helping the situation for anybody black, white or what have you?? I honestly dont think this thread should have been started in the first place myself, but on the other hand this thread was about Imus and his mouth, NOT about blacks being the highest group on welfare or the lowest graduation rate.
.......All that was pointing back to Commonsense and his ignorant post!
I find it funny that this conversation is happening on a blog that covers "prep sports & life" in SoCal....let's face it...if you are white and speak English and live in SoCal - then you ARE THE MINORITY! Should affirmative action be tweaked to fit the State/City you life in?? I SAY YES. If you speak English in SoCal it's hard to get a freaking job....shoot...most jobs in SoCal require one to be bilingual. Total joke!
Patrick
The point is centered around you opening your mouth with little or no facts!
"Another things, NO, blacks are not the highest users of welfare....its actually white women...study your facts my friend! ; and if they need it to get back on their feet then so be it."
If you actually new anything about the study, or who conducts the study, you would realize it’s not about black, white, Hispanic ECT. You are the "type A" person like JJ and Big AL trying to make this the race card.
Quit crying and do your homework
Patrick
You just don't know the facts. The study is developed in detail to Congress based on case load facts, not percent of population or census stats
My question to you then is...now that Congress has such delightful facts, how is that helping black people in general?? Besides letting them know how shameful and invaluble they are....Its one thing to tell a group of people they are at the bottom of the barrel , BUT its another thing to not offer a feasible solution in the same token.
Every non-african american should realize the masses will ALWAYS blame everybody but themselves for anything bad in their lives, so stop trying to convince them otherwise. Good Ole' Rev Jesse and Al hate anything that isn't black, but its ok to the majority of their people. By far, blacks play the role of victim more than any other race, and yet have the lowest graduation rates and highest incarceration rates and highest percentage of people on welfare of ANY U.S. citizen. If you disagree with their rants, you are a racist. If they disagree with your's, its because you can't put yourself in their shoes. I've given up trying to reason, sympathise, empathise or interact with the greater masses of african americans because they unfortunately want you to feel sorry for them and at the same time condone their undisciplined and often times uncivil behavior. For the educated, hard-woking, african americans, I say god bless you
Unfortunatly, it was once meant to be that way by design. Blacks were never meant to be equal and have a way out of such catastrophes. Most white upper authorities know you take the black man out of the home, their is no more black families to worry about. So i guess thats why black men are the only's actually caught for their crimes at a higher rate right? There is a reason everything happens, and its NOT necessarily a good reason. There is always going to be a priced to be paid for blacks fighting for their freedom and voicing their opinion!
Patrick
You just don't know the facts. The study is developed in detail to Congress based on case load facts, not percent of population or census stats.
Lmfao! I have never beleived anything thats based off inflated statistics. If your talking urban-inner city ,then maybe YES. But to say 38% of all AA families are on welfare, thats not far off from half of the total population of AA total. I know AA make up only barely over 10% of the total US pop. So you gonna be believe that roughly over a third of the total AA pop is on welfare??
I do know when it comes to voting, and general census as if pertains to people of color, the sample demographics are almost always skewed and diced and sliced.
commonsense -- Boy, did you hit the nail on the head. Great post. To Patrick - I believe he used the word "majority". Not once did he say "every". And to say that the highest users of welfare are the white women is the funniest one I've heard today. Loved the statement, "For the educated, hard working, african american, I say god bless you." I think Bill Cosby even criticized his own race for these same issues, as well as other well-known african americans. As the "Rev" would say - Amen!!
Patrick let me help you with the seventh annual report to Congress...
There has been little change in the racial composition of TANF families since FY 2002. African-American families comprised 38 percent of TANF families, white families comprised 32 percent, 25 percent were Hispanic, 2.0 percent were Asian, and 1.5 percent were Native American. Of all closed-case families, 33 percent were African-American, 37 percent were white, and 24 percent were Hispanic.
The racial distribution of TANF recipient children has not significantly changed when compared to FY 2002. African-American children continued to be the largest group of welfare children, comprising about 39 percent of recipient children. About 27 percent of TANF recipient children were white, and 28 percent were Hispanic.
commonsense
i agree with 100%
Commensense, so by your statement or choice of words, you are saying "EVERY" black plays the role of victim??........Wow!
So i guess its fair to say that "EVERY" white has played the role of oppressor then right?? You should really watch how you choose to word your opinions, unless thats really how you feel.
Another things, NO, blacks are not the highest users of welfare....its actually white women...study your facts my friend! ; and if they need it to get back on their feet then so be it.

Truth is Imus got what he deserved. Just like Michael Richards. What was it he said..."If this were 1942 you would have a pitch fork up your ass" Wonder what he meant by that....sounds like a comedic lynching to me!!!! hahahahaha...oops THAT ain't funny.....no sir it ain't.
get it , got it ...good!
Thank God the majority of Americans can look past the smoke and mirrors and can stop blaming people who have nothing to apologize for. I am sick of my own culture labeling Larry Elder or Armstrong Williams or JC Watts or Condoleezza Rice as sell-outs because they're bright, articulate and don't have a far left-leaning stance on issues. God forbid not everyone thinks alike on every issue or wants to reach for higher ground and join the masses of educated America. Until others realize there is hope, they'll continue to sell drugs or put all their eggs in one basket (athletics).
Michael Meyers, executive director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition and a former assistant national director of the NAACP, says it all:"Ours is supposed to be a nation that prides itself on free speech -- let a thousand tongues wag, we say, and the truth will be uncovered."
Bleeds Blue and Gold,
I pretty sure you went to college and made it! moved to the burbs. Probaly think if i can do it every latino can do it so can you Right,Well i have learned that take every person situation different. You have the opportunity to start good at a private school. Some of the smartest people i know are currently in jail. There parent on drugs live with there grandparent, and seeing negtive stuff, and there also the exception to the rule, you know that person that over come all obstacles. I just read a book about that same subject about 1 month ago people go to school do the right thing that good, But instead of making a assumption about that person after you have madeit( are what ever that means) why dont you go help that person. ask that person there current situation instead of assuming. If you look back at history the latino culture help there family. it is important part of what makes them who they are. We live in current america where it is all about helping yourself, Fu** everybody else. We need to help more people .
PS Im not latino
I am.......
PCmg,
You say "putting $$$$ infront of human lives", well isn't that what JJ does evrytime he blackmails an American corporation if they do not support his Rainbow Coalition? Or both JJ and AS threatening boycotts if companies do not bend to their whim? Who's in it for the money then?
I once played golf with an alumnus of my school, one of these "activist lawyers". He told me that he was going to start a boycott of Disney because they were not using a "sufficient" number of Latino actors in their TV shows and I should join in. You know what? I told him to go to hell and that I could care less about who they use and what for! At the time my kids were small and I sure as hell was NOT going to deny them a trip to
Disneyland just to join HIS cause! As long as Disney treats me and my family right is ALL that matters. The day they don't, is the day I will stop to patronize them and that goes for every other company that I give MY money to.
So get off the "history" bandwagon and start living in the present. Start maiking a difference NOW by refusing to support the ideologies of these egotistical madmen and think on your own.
When you said that you majored in "Black Studies", did you mean African American Studies?
Crying about the past won't change the future!
Get over your history classes... Doesn't fit and who gives a shit. Run for office if you think you have the answers.
It time to STOP worrying about what goes on around the world. We can't save every nation or every country, and our policies can't be forced on others!
It time to take care of our own and the many uneducated kids and families living on the street!
PC means Power Correction and not Political Correctness. Give me a break. How old would Martin Luther King be today...did anyone alive spit in his face, call him a niggger, put dogs on him, or burn a cross on his lawn. You talk about slavery as if Lincoln freed the slaves...he did nothing of the sort...he limited the white man an inch or two then came the Civil Rights Movement and wait I thought Lincoln did all that already??
Keep making this bigger or smaller than it is...it is what it is. Million man march jokes anyone?
To the non college educated..no slight just perspective. Understand that Africa is the result of the influence of the white man in every facet of their present existence. Know what you're talking about before you speak from ignorance and disinformation. Just like what's happening in the Middle East is a result of people putting their $$$$$ in front of human lives. The natural resources of a continent is what drives the train that runs over these beautiful cultures and people. Time and again...history has shown what has happneded in the last 200 years across the globe. Maybe sticks and stones don't hurt you but guns and mortars do.
Get educated outside of this wonderful country of ours and see what people around the world have to tolerate when America comes calling. El Salvador, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Honduras, South Africa, Iran, Iraq, ect. Yes this is the greatest country in the world no doubt but could this country sustain and tolerate 100's dying daily in the name of oil? This country's civil rights policy and foriegn policy is mired in horror and domination. But still it is the greatest country in the world because we are a giving and courageous people in spite of our leaders and sometimes in spite of ourselves.
Maybe it would be best to white wash America's recent history but when the front cover of TIME magazine asks..."Is America ready for a BLACK President?" What are they alluding to if not the remnants of bigotry and racism of who ...blacks and hispanics? Give me a break.
Open a book. Read your history. Know your history. And when you're done with that.....do the same for other cultures and "learn" about theirs. No fight here just a Black Studies/Business double major that my Academic Advisor told me to never mention...wonder why?
As far as the wet back comments...I like Richard Rodriguez's perspective....we'll conquer them with our food and love of family. Somos 35 de 2...twenty college degrees and counting. Success is the best weapon against racism and bigotry.
PC my Ass
What a crock of shit! This is why our country is STILL in the poor me stage!
Get over it!
I am the ORIGINAL Bleeds Blue and Gold, accept no subsitutions.
PC, some of what you say is true but when you talk about what is happening in Africa today, what is the difference there and what happens here in the U.S.? Black killing black, no matter whether it's here or there, it's still the same. Are you going to blame the white man for that?
I am an American of Mexican decent (not the other way around) and I would be embarassed to have Jesse and Al represent me if I were Black, the same way I am embarassed to have these "Latino" leaders that you see. They will take every opportunity to put their face on TV to take up "their cause" which they try to say is supposed to be my cause also. Since when were they appointed to represent ME? Who put them in charge? I'll tell you who really gets under my skin are Mayor Antonio "the Cheshire Cat" Villaraigosa and this damn lawyer who happens to represent every so called crime victim, Luis Carrillo. When they open their mouths, I cringe. And that's just two off the top of my head, there are more that I won't go into now.
Let's see, "nappy-headed"...hmmm, here's more, "wetback", "spic". Ouch, ouch , ouch, those hurt. NOT! I too have been called many "names" but I know WHO I AM and WHAT I AM. Racism will be alive as long as one keeps it alive. I CHOSE to NOT let it rule my life and it never will.
Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me.
PC my ass...
you miss quoted Imus. If u r going to come on here and give us your thoughts, get the facts straight first.
all people talk about is AL Sharton and Jesse Jackson. Al Sharton and Jesse Jackson did not make him say that. what if your dauther was on that team? your focusing on the wrong thing. IT not rap not those two Gentlemen, but the comments from A man and his staff. Make him a hero until he says something about you!
PLese beleave it was about money and nothing else.
Here we go again! The World is against us, right pc my ass? You think the majority of black people are proud or want those two bigots as "black leaders." Let me guess......and if you don't have a chip on your shoulder, then you're an "uncle tom" or a "sellout," right? Of course there will be and are bad events throughout time like the Byrd incident. So, should white people name every time there is black on white crime? Get that huge dorito chip off your shoulder and realize NO ONE ALIVE had anything to do with slavery. That was my point. We don't have to twist everybody's word. Yes, there is racism, but MY POINT was there is racism amongst ALL races, not just white. Please try and be objective about a very serious issue. I am sure we won't be able to do this, because it seems people are unable to put aside their OWN HATRED, no matter their race and think from everyone's point of view and not just the "victim."
Aram. I stunned that you would look at this for anything other than what it is...backhanded racism. Just like your comment about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
"Nappy headed holes" write that about the girls at Bishop Amat. By the way try it and see if the Tribune fires you because of BIG BUCKS. They'll fire you for the same reason that you'd keep anyone from writting those words on your blog....let's try it again....."Nappy headed holes"
Do you know what "nappy headed" means in the lexicon of American history...let's see ...they came on ships! That's a term from the South...'nuff said! I find it hard to believe that people can not see the error of his comments. It isn't African Americans that are the "untouchable" race...and if they are now, which we all know they are not, then maybe 400 years of "hands on" treatment buys them that out. Besides think about who "touched" them.
Lately the use of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as battering rams is becoming comical but I'm not laughing. Both men have their place in history for better or worst. If they are a thorn in anyone's side it's white America that wishes they'd just go away. And by white America I mean the America that used race as a gateway issue for humanity. Don't get offended. Don't ridicule. Don't snicker. When you've been dragged by a pick up truck for the color of your skin, within the last 10 years,or shot 42 times for reaching for your wallet in NYC, again within the last 10 YEARS,than snicker, laugh and dismiss the Jesse's and Al's of the world. You want to know why you have Jesse and Al to laugh at..because someone with hate for a heart shot Martin and Medgar. They would have loved to have seen the fruits of their labor but a bullet thought otherwise.
Who lynched the original NWA "niggers with attitude"? You know the kind that looked at a white girl. Before the song "Where all the white women at?!" that thought would have bought you and your family a KKK visit.
As far as the sand nigger commet Aram....please you fake the funk with Rap and then come in and follow lock step with the staus quo. Maybe spending a couple of years on a college campus would have opened your eyes to other perspectives. It was the Turks that killed your people right? Imagine the holocaust that is Africa today! 450 years and counting. What happened to a once proud and beautiful people and continent? Will Africa ever recover from it's on going holocaust?
So enough with the Big Bucks theory...it was racism at it's best...except Imus made everyone in the country say..."Opps...there it is!"
My children know what racism is..and they don't have to look it up in a history book to find it.
Rap Nation...brother stop with the BS. No one alive? "checkered past" ? Is that what happened to Mr. Byrd in Texas...backroad hillbilly "checkers"? You need to "check" yourself.
As a proud man of color, I am disgusted that someone that AMERICA respects like Senator Obama or Harold Ford or Oprah Winfrey couldn't have taken the lead on this issue, rather than two of the worst divisive and hypocritical so-called leaders in our community. Any person who can look in the mirror and say Rev. Jackson or Sharpton is anything less than a sham is lying to themself. Yes, I am sickened that Mr. Imus insulted some bright and classy young women, but until we're ready to step up and say rappers and athletes have to live to the same standard as Mr. Imus, it can't bother me as much as it should. STOP using race as a crutch and make excuses for a double standard. Its 2007. No one alive was responsible for anything that happened in a checkered past, so get over it and move on TOGETHER.
Oh my God!! Someone with the stones to stand up against the double standard and take the politically incorrect and yet, CORRECT and fair stance on a double standard. What Imus said was wrong. Racist, sexist, homophobic or any hate speech should be condemned, however, it will never be wrong until EVERY race accepts responsibility that every single person is held to the same account. Jesse Jackson called NY "jaime-town," Al Sharpton is blatantly biased towards African-American causes WITHOUT any concern for any other group and is imfamous for jumping to a conclusion before all the facts are read. What a joke. How about the Duke Lacrosse kids who were CHARGED with a crime before a prosecutor even spoke with the accuser, someone who had 10 years prior made the same FALSE claim and yet the "New Black Panthers" went on the campus of Duke University to "demand justice." Where was Jesse or Al to wait till all the facts came out? Where are they now that the DA himself said they were "INNOCENT?" Thank you for raising the issue Mr. Tolegian, because unless non-African Americans are willing to stand up and say "ENOUGH with the double standard," the rift will continue to grow wider. One standard for all people. Fair? I think so.
Race this!,
Please read what I wrote ... here it is below. Believe me, I know why he got fired.
"Any African American thinking that CBS or NBC canned this guy because he hurt your feelings had better think again. They did it because they didn't want Burger King or some drug company to pull their ads. And they also did it because Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the two greatest extortionists ever, got involved."
i think that what he said was pretty dumb. but the way i see it "african americans" always get bugged out on this matter. there like the race u cant touch, i just think that "african americans" just get to hurt easily. im not racist or anything but i see this as just dumb. he shouldnt of got fired cuz thats just not right. idk, i just see that making fun of black people will get you fired.
Aram
Imus didn't get fired because of what he said. He got fired for fear of losing big revenues. It is and will always be about the BIG BUCK.
Personally I am so sick of hearing the race card when it comes to this kind of crap. I wonder if Jeese and Big Al would be crying wolf if the tide was turned. Don't see them on TV talking about the Duke situation.
Just look at what the Duke boys went through because of a lying no good woman! It's total BS!!!!
AT,
You took the words right of the Clones mouth!
Late!
Mike the Clone
Oh what I wouldn't give to hear what is being said behind closed doors by you boys on Hershey.
Very well put. I think you are speaking for a lot of people who feel the same way, especially regarding Jesse Jackson jumping in on everything he can possibly make a racial issue.
I think Imus is an ass and a veteran media personality like him should no way better than to say stuff like he said. Imus has always been very mean-spirited and he's said other stupid things before.
Conversely, I think CBS and NBC shouldn't have canned him. Any African American thinking that CBS or NBC canned this guy because he hurt your feelings had better think again. They did it because they didn't want Burger King or some drug company to pull their ads. And they also did it because Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the two greatest extortionists ever, got involved.
Personally, and this is coming from somebody who has been called a "sand nigger" on his own Web site, I think Amercica's hyper-sensitivity to race issues needs to stop.
The bottom line of this whole Imus situation is that Imus is/was stupid and cruel, the corporations got worried about the backlash, and the hypocrisy of America's race issues once again reared their ugly head. If you want to give NBC grief for anything, give it hell for owning Interscope Records which has rappers who say far worse about women than Imus ever did. But that's OK, because they're of the same race. Right? Wrong. You'll never hear Sharpton or Jackson ever say a thing about that, though. It's so stupid.
Hey Aram, what's your take on this? Don't tip toe around it...I want brutal honesty. Do you agree CBS and their decision to fire Imus? Should all members of the media be held to such high standards? Let's hear it.
