Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
Hey lol,
Whittier College is one of the best Liberal Arss colleges in the country on an annual basis. US NEWS, Princeton Review TOP 100 schools, ect.
That's $35,000 a year with Room and Board. Castaneda is and was a STUD. All the Mendrun and other QB comparisons are just silly. Both are great players but Castaneda and his Dad are making the best choice for their son and I applaud them. Congrats to Matt and Pops. At least I get to visit family in Whittier on the way to the Game. I'm bringing Polliseeds and hope to see Pops ( a former East Los Angeles College baller)and his rail buddies.
Best of luck to ALL QBs. Buena suerte!
dude shut the hell up diamond ranch blows, hey k is that whittier college if so its a great school but not so good in football.
diamond ranch did not kill los altos
DIAMOND RANCH KILLED LOS ALTOS IN A GOOD GAME AN DENNIS HAD 23 TAKLES BENSON HAD 3 SACKS WHERES THERE LOVE AT DIAMOND RANCH HAD THE BEST TALENT IN THE IE...THEY KILLED DENNIS PLAYED WITH A TORN MUSCLE OFF THE BONE AN THEY PLAYED AGAINST ELDORADO 2ND ROUND AN HE STILL HAD 10 TKLS AN A SACK W 2 TKLS FOR LOST YOU GUYS ARE LOOSING IT TALKING ABOUT LITTLE PLAYERS WHO ARENT GOING ANYWHERE WHEN THERES PEOPLE WHO PLAYED THESE PPL UR TALKING ABOUT AN KILLED THEM LETS NOT FORGET ABOUT AN OAKS CHRISTIAN GAME WHERE DENNIS HAD 20 TKLS AN PUT MARCTYLER OUT FOR GOOD CHK THE TAPES
he's going to whittier private...may be a small school but its one of the best private school's in this nation and also for his height to be playing football in college
what school
damn your crazy man try catching a ball from the guy he's small but he's got pride its not my fault los altos put up a better game than charter oak to el dorado...matt is going to a private university to play football
get off that kid from los altos hes going no where plus hes graduating,he really was not that good to small, weak arm and he got beat by el dorado end of story.
matt castenada deserved to be first team all sgv because he out played mendrum in a game, height dont matter he has a cannon for a arm just try catching a ball from him he'll leave the stitches from the football on you, and he took los altos all the way to the semi's and kept up with el dorado who smashed on charter oak...the semi-final game between los altos and el dorado should have been the championship game enough said....
ARAM YOU SHOULD POST WERE KIDS ARE GOING TO COLLEGE SO WE CAN SEE WHOS WHO.
well there is a bit of a controversy here in this little blog, both bernal and castanada are playing in the 605 game on sat at la mirada high @ 6pm and lets say one thing for sure the talent level is pretty tough and if anyone in the valley thinks that either mc donald or mendrum can beat castanada your full of s$%@, cast played mendrun and the damien star threw for a whopping 74 yards while castanada hit over 250 and 2 tds, go to highlight and see foryourself, as for mcdonald he will be playing a bit better talent and just as fast with little hype and he will probably get dragged down a lot trying to run. From what ive seen the top 8 recievers in the 605 are all over 6' two at 6'4" with under 4.5 sec 40's and i believe they are going to wash st, arizona st and minn st, places like that and really I dont think the hall of fame recievers would crack the top 8 in the 605 lineup, and not to mention the wide variety of talent and the draws for these teams pretty tough.
My respect goes to the kid bernal and the little Q,B for the marbles to play with these kids, hey the rumor is that the Qber has a great sat score and is going to a university and guess what to play Qber someplace Go figure.
Ive been to 2 practices and from the beginning the recievers had to adjust to the speed of cast ball.
Maybe next year we can have a 605 vs tribune game.
Go to highlight tapes.
It"s CRAZY to pick 3 players from EACH school. Look at Covina, Charter Oak and Damien who had awsome years with SENIOR loaded teams. And they get 3 picks just like Gladstone, La Puente and Bassett and Bishop Amat? Is that fair?
Damien should have sent 6 players. Covina at least 5.
ALL STAR games are suppose to be based on MERIT not QUOTAS!!!!
Oh well anyone going to the Grid Iron Classic in LONG BEACH?
No Chavez from Bonita?
DB Terrance Dennis and LB Greg Benson from Diamond Ranch he's phenominal said to e one of the hardest hitting safeties in the nation had offers and going to a hardnosed hitting school like Fresno st an also Pac10 offered him and Greg Benson is blazing speed probably be one of the fastest LB on the Team and with his strength he'll throw linemen out of the way watch their Oaks Christian los altos and Charter Oak tapes
What do you guys think about DB Terrance Dennis and LB Greg Benson from Diamond Ranch he's phenominal said to e one of the hardest hitting safeties in the nation had offers and going to a hardnosed hitting school like Fresno st an also Pac10 offered him and Greg Benson is blazing speed probably be one of the fastest LB on the Team and with his strength he'll throw linemen out of the way watch their Oaks Christian los altos and Charter Oak tapes

what do you guys think about Terrance Dennis and Greg Benson from Diamond Ranch Dennis Really Brings the wood some said hardest hitting safety in nation and Benson is one of strongest an ffastest LB or DB on the team
Aram I don't know if there is another Dan on this board or if someone just used my name, but that wasn't me that asked about Nick Field not making the all star line up, don't get me wrong
cause I think he and Rosenthal were the best linebacking duo in the sgv and he is certainly as good as any LB on that list, but I understand that each team is limited to three players.
DANIEL BERNAL NEEDS SUM LOVING MAN!
IRAN BLANDON ALSO!
Aram back me up. these two guys could flat out play!. and play anywhere
Please note that Jesse Cervantes from Amat and Frankie Ruiz from Bassett have been added to the list. They were not on the original roster given to me, but they are in the game. As Coach Heggins reminded me, this is a fluid situation. Meaning the roster can and will change.
Jon Joe is a class act.
Reminding us that he is the rare 3 sports star makes me wonder if it would be valuable to add a "Tribune Athlete of the Year" at the end of every school year or as part of Prep Sports Year in Review in December.
Aram..is Jon Joe unreal or what. Nicest kid you ever want to meet and he's a true 3 sport STAR. Football, Basketball and Track.
Any last thoughts about Jon Joe?
I've talked to him on several occassions since his SO. year and success has not changed him. How did DIV I schools pass on this kid?
Aram the floor is yours.
Dan,
As you and everyone should know, I have no input on these rosters. Nomination forms are sent out to coaches across the Valley and they're supposed to return them. The game organizers and coaches then select a team from the nominees. I believe each school is allowed up to only three participants. West Covina's three participants are Natvidad, Wallace and Rosenthal. That's a lineman, RB/DB, and a LB. Field would only be selected to play as a LB. Wallace is probably the first guy from WestCo they wanted in the game. Natividad is a lineman ... so do you take Field ahead of Rosenthal at LB? They gave you their answer.
Hey Aram, give me your take on why Field from West Covina didn't get on this roster??
if amat players are so good why dont they participate so they show what there made of.
Sorry....meant www.605allstars.com.
Go to www.605allstarts for more information about the 605 game. It is on June 2nd at La Mirada HS. Starts at 6:05 PM.
the 605 game is june 2 at La Mirada high school,..click on the whittier daily news link to catch the time...
Where is the 605 Game being held and what's the skinny on Joe Morales? Where is he going and did the transfer from SEM help him out?
Best of luck to all the players.
But really were is the game being held?
Condor Mom:
Morales, Vega, Gracieux and Perez from St. Paul are playing in the 605 game. Gracieux and Perez are playing in the Hall of Fame game. It isn't that unusual for players to play in multiple all-star games. However, just because a player gets nominated it doesn't mean he will actually accept the nomination and play.
The 605 is this weekend. The H of F game is July. Some of these kids probably have summer jobs or school or just want some time off.
Mean Machine & Mike the Clone,
Those are some encouraging words you speak of our military, I could not agree more, hero's they all are. have a good Memorial weekend.
St. Paul player, Joe Morales, is playing in the 605 All-Star game under his Head Coach Pete Gonzalez.
How come some St. Paul players are in this game and others are in the 605 game?
Mean Machine,
I've never met your Uncle but I'll tell you this,Pedro Verduzco is not only your hero he is also my hero.Just as anyone else who has served this country.
He is a better man than I'll ever be!
Remember those guys make this all possible for us all.
Late!
Mike the Clone
Happy Memeorial Day Big Mike,
Saw your boys. It'll be interesting to see them come Hell Week.
As far as the whole Citrus thing, well it's stigmatized on several levels. Most kids just want to extend their stay in those beautiful homes their parents own. Others just can not afford 4 years at a university. CS Fullerton vs. Citrus for General Education classes is a no brainer for most parents as well as students. Another thing is some students just did not push themselves hard enough or really valued their HS years in the classroom. Outside the classroom yes! but insde well..probably not.
As far as athletics goes. a small % will use the JC as a springboard to another school. Others it's just a way to prolong their playing days. Either way it's only a game...but it's alot of fun and eventually they still have to hit the workforce ..prepared or unprepared.
I hope every student appreciates their high shcool years. Especially those fortunate enough to live a lifestyle most parents could only wish for. Remember most parents couldn't afford to "REBUY" the home they presently live in. $740,000 homes come with $3,800+ mortgages!
Do the math..stay in school .
Good luck to all the JC students. Rememeber it's not where you start it's how you finish that counts. My boy never made it to Varsity or got his "coveted" jacket but he did get his "prize". He traded in Green envy for Cardinal and Gold.
My uncle did 2 tours in Vietnam and on Memorial Day Weekend I bring out the Marine hat he gave me in 1968. I cried when they told us he was wounded in combat but it was nothing like my mother cried when he told her he was re enlisting for another tour of duty. He was wounded again and suffered some Jungle virus that almost killed him but tomorrow I'll be gald he's here and alive to make me laugh. Why did he re enlist? The first time was to become a citizen and the second time was to do his part for his "new" country. That's a hero. His name is Pedro Verduzco. And he is my hero!
That's what Memorial Day is to me maybe others have similar stories. God Bless the greatest country on earth. USMC the few the proud the Marines. First in ! Last out!
I don't get this whole bash Citrus College talk. I hear this coming from everywhere. Citrus College is probably one of the best JC's around for both academics and athletics. Why is there such a stigma attached to it? Can someone explain this to me.
A lot of the Glendora kids put that stigma on going there.
The way I look at it some kids are meant to go to college and some are not.
Also I have to say I have enjoyed reading some of the spring football stuff some of you guys and gals have posted. Work schedule didn't allow me to get a chance to get over to "Bagpiper U" to see any of their practices but heard they were productive.
Have a great rest of the Memorial Day weekend you guys and let us not forget to remember what this weekend is meant for. Thank a Vet or a current service man or woman for the sacrafices they make for all of us.
Late!
Mike the Clone
Anymouse
Don't think the parenting was to good at home!
Starts there and end there!
Aram,
No way any of those db's can lock down Zion Babb. Those guy's might be D1 one day but Zion's gonna be playing in the Big House come September. The question remains can the West get him the ball? Will Michigan let him play?
Haha,
Is that what you hope happens to Mike or are you a prophet?
Either way your a sad individual, no teenager is beyond moments of bad judgement and that includes Mcd, my kids and believe it or not even your kids if you are a parent...
If you do have kids and think they are beyond mischief then either you are blind to it or they are good liars and have the wool pulled over your eyes...
You should try some words of encouragement to all Teens no matter what they have done, you may be suprised and find out that these words of encouragement (Even in a Blog format) could make a difference...
I personally hope both McD and MM become successful and productive young men and prove you wrong...
Why???
Why would I want to see it any other way?
AnyMouse...
Aram can you post the practice times of the ALL STAR FOOTBALL PRACTICES!
Aram what ahppened to the #1 rated Linebacker in your preseason Top Ten; What happened to Rowlands Norys?
Was that punishing the son for the sins of the father?
From #1 to NONE?
Still no answer why Damien's DE LA TORRE did not make the team.
If mendrun is so good why didnt he get a full ride or better yet why isnt he going to one of local university, its way better than citrus and a way better education, and its affordable if you do it right they do alot to help you trust me.Did any talk to him.
fransico ruiz from workman didnt get in here?...he is playing up at citrus rite now the guy is a beast. I thought he shoulda been up there with silva
Mendrun doesn't have bad grades. He wants to keep on playing football.
Lenord Just look at McD's numbers. Those numbers are impressive in any leauge. If you were looking for a leader than maybe MM. He had a great year leading Damien and is a very good QB. He is also a great person but, the numbers here when it comes to balance both pass and run. McD's numbers hands down are better. This is coming from a Damien fan.
The old saying scoreboard applies here!
All the MCd and MenDrum talk
Both players were at the Citrus College Football meeting!
Who knows for sure if they complete registration and attend school in the fall. If its that important, go watch the sping practice. Starts early June!
Interesting dispute. But McDonough and Mendrun are now teammates and I suggest you all come out to practice and see who can do what. They both have a ton of things to like. They both can pass and run ... Mendrun may look better doing both, but the bottom line is close. Plus, McD likes to run over people and Mendrun was more elusive. Two awesome QBs.
Leonard thats funny, cause every coach i have talked to and that list includes gano, farrar and a few others have stated that McD is the player that they would have wanted over any. Its cool you like your guy but that fact is McD would have ran through your guy. Ask Aram, i mean a guy who scores 107 td's in two seasons is probably hands down better then anyone else in the valley. sorry but the truth hurts. Dont even talk about two minute drills. Once again i am going to quote our good friend Aram "When McD lead a drive with 1:50 on the clock in the 4th quarter to tie the game up in the semis that is the exact moment he sowed up back-to-back poy". Oh and he is only one of two people to ever win poy twice. Give the guy his due. Heck if McD at Damien your guy would have been holding a clipboard charting his td's.
The Legend Speaks
They broke the mold when they made McD...
Toughest player in the area by far...
A true throwback from another era...
I doubt thats disputable...
AnyMouse...
Living Legend, Living Legend, Living Legend..
Do we really need to start up a debate again why Mcd won player of the year 2 years in a row? It's quite simple really, the best team they play in their league is San Dimas for crying out loud!! If i were a betting man i would say that ANY coach in the valley would take Mendrun over Mcd becuase he is clutch. If the ball was in his hands with his team down and under 2 minutes to go, you know things would come out on the right side.
Since you know Mcd so well where is he going to college? The last i heard he was going to Citrus so keep me updated. Thanks pal
It's possible I may have missed some people inputting the rosters. I will check when I get to the office.
ya u missed 1 with daniel bernal...4 year varsity guy good kid...dont fault him for playin on a horrible team the last2 years...im not even a wilson fan!
Leonard, Leonard, Leonard how cute you post was. Higgins picked McD to play Qb and you might also see him at some LB...How funny you say Mendrun already beat out McD for the QB job at Citrus...very funny McD is not even going to Citrus...And to end my post if they are running the spread Offense look for McD to be the starting QB for the east team. I mean he is the back-to-back player of the year....how many player of the years did Mendrun win..oh yeah about as many as you won there buddy (zero)
The Legend Speaks
just a heads up on the selection process. a friend coached this game a couple of years ago and as he explained it: the head coach is only allowed to take 3 players from each school, and then the coach has to contact the player and make sure they want to play in the game. it isnt as easy as it seems. plus from what i heard there were school that sent in like seven nominations and there were school that sent in none. instead of blaming the head coaches maybe the structure of the game should be considered. also why not play this game in the brand new stadium at bp if the bp head coach is coaching the east.
Mcdonough isn't even playin qb Mendrun already beat him out for that job at citrus
Whoever picked this team is a moron.
What where's Damien's De La Torre. That's a flat ass JOKE! ALL CIF in this DIV and then no spot for him? That's a crime. Best guard in the Valley.
What No Chris Lucero.
No Justin Luiten? No Brad Walsh? No Uche?
That criminal.
Hile , Travis and Mendrun...some thing never change at Damien.
And where is Bishop Amat? Damien was the #1 team in SGV and then this..just 3 players? What about Chavez from Bonita? Castaneda from Los Altos?
Whatever.
I gotta say this roster is loaded. So much talent at the skill positions its ridiculous. I've seen the west roster and just feel the east will take this one easily. What do you think the outcome will be Aram?
http://www.bpbraves.net/files/FIELD_OF_DREAMS_Part_2.html
what no daniel bernal?
What do you mean by "insider?" Are you talking about feature stories?
Aram will you do the insider in the paper like you did last year on some of these players?
This is a good jr college lineup, for some of these guys its there last football game ever.Hopefully mt sac and citrus will be there scouting.
I count seven offensive linemen and five defensive linemen. I think this is a savvy move by Heggins if all the guys actually show up, practice and play. You don't want to be shuffling the O-Line during the game for fear of getting QBs killed and fumbled snaps and so on. Less is better. The D-Line could be a different story, though. Unless Heggins is planning on having some combo of four of Pasalo, Hooper, Rosenthal, McDonough, Montoya, Benson and Bruno on the field at the same time. That's a scary collection of LBs. Maybe McDonough won't play LB, but I think he'll convince the coaches to give him a look there.
The West has some awesome RBs in Dwight Broadnax and Lavelle Peterson. And a potentially great O-Line. I just cann't wait to see Pasalo or Hooper or Bruno fly in and go after these guys. And the West had better be able to run because there will be no passing when Jamal James and William Wallace are locking down on the receivers and Michael Johnson and Terrence Dennis are patrolling behind them at safety. Mark my words, at some point in their careers, the entire East secondary will be playing D-I college football.
The vibe I got from Heggins today is that he's taking the game serious and will be looking to care of business in a little over a month. Should be awesome to see all these guys together.
what happened to matt casteneda the small QB from Los Altos?
West roster is up on Fred Robledo's blog. There seem to be a lot of people on that side who think they'll run the ball easily on the East.
Here's the address
http://www.insidesocal.com/robledo/2007/05/hall_of_fame_game_roster.html#comments
Go Tartans!!
any info on the west team?
Matt Casteneda is supposed be at the 605 game June, 2.
http://605allstars.com/605%20Pages/07_605_rosters/07_east_roster.html
What happened to Los Altos QB Matt Castaneda. Not Big as other QB's but he has the better arm. Imagine what HE could with all those recievers!
forget about mendrum, put MIKE in there!!!
he'll score you 7 TD's, 4 passing 3 rushing
What happened to Big Joe Morales of St. Paul.?
Wow imagine Mendrun with more than 1 receiver. If they go 5 wide with Eschardies, Joe, Johnson, Foss, and James the game will be over at half time
Good luck West
remember Amat is in a leage of there own. not wanted in the SGV because of all there pride and there hard scheduel. they dont want to be included with us...
No representation from Amat?
Dont they participate in this?
AnyMouse...
GO WEST COVINA
