It finally happened ...

I had a feeling this day in high school sports would come sooner than later. Let me first explain what's going on and offer you some links to help figure it out. There is controversy swirling around Newport Harbor pole vaulter Allison Stokke. She's an 18-year-old senior and one of the state's top vaulters. But that's not why she's getting attention. It seems that pictures of Ms. Stokke have been circulating around the Internet and they're not attracting eyes because of her good vaulting form. You can see what I mean by doing a simple google search with her name. I've decided against posting any of them here because I don't want copyright hassles. There's also a myspace fan page for her, which you can also find by searching either that site or google. Stokke has turned into an Internet superstar for obvious reasons - she's a female high school athlete with movie star looks and has people toeing a very strange line. And Allison's father, Allan Stokke, who is a prominent defense attorney, is evidently not happy about his daughter's new found fame. He voiced his displeasure in a FRONT PAGE story in the Washington Post and more recently the OC Register. Remember, the girl goes to Newport Harbor, and the story is in the Washington Post!!! Think it's gotten big? The Washington Post article prompted the popular Web site Deadspin.com to say: "Giving an huge interview to The Washington Post about how you can't stand everyone talking about your daughter -- and including two more attractive pictures -- is really the perfect way to get everyone to stop talking about your daughter." And then there's this from CBS.
The situation has become so gigantic that it's making its way through several major blogs and the debate has begun. I would suggest checking Sportsbybrooks (scroll down) for another viewpoint. It's currently the lead item on that blog and there's more further down the page.

Let me get this straight...an 18 year old is photographed at a public event and because she's very attractive she's upset?

Sounds like bull to me. I won't use the word "leering" this time so you won't delete my comment.

There is no issue. It's artificial. If she were a minor you might have a problem. Do you get releases when taking pictures of football players in a high school football game. She's ridiculous and so is her Dad. POOR ME...people think I'm pretty. Here's a hint lose the makeup and the Victoria Secret shorts and Brittany "pout" and then we'll talk.

Remember she's rich, her Dad's powerful and she's very talented. In four weeks when she forgoes her colleg career or NIKE signs her she'll be the next Anna K. and all this attention will be FREEEEEE Advertizing. And chances are she'll wear even less.

Don't believe me...remember the Serena Williams photos at the US Open? Why are all the women photos with the women in compromising positions?

Stokke keep up the good work, get your scholarship, and have fun. Don't let the "leering" men ruin your joyous youth. One question ...who's the lucky guy who took you to the prom? Talk about BMOC!

Aram last point..you're either part of the problem or part o the solution. You decide.

Wow, so many of you are missing the point. It's not about "Look how hot she is," it's about the good chance that this is going to become a real issue for high school sports. I guess people don't read before they start flying off the handle. THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN DOWN BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT CONCERNS. NOTHING ELSE.

Curious that you delete a post that someone made on here in regards to the pole vaulting girl rather quickly (I saw a post that has since been deleted) but posts from a certain individual who claims a certain school gets his posts to stay on all the time even if they're raunchy and off color. You pick which posts you want on. I know now.

Aram,
I'm a Pole Vaulting Teacher and I disagree with you. She has great pole vaulting form. For god's sakes, she won cif as a freshman. It's a black and white sport, you either clear the distance or you don't...no judges gave her the benefit of the doubt because she wears a pair of tight shorts better than any other pole vaulter I've ever seen and she makes sexy faces as she clears the bar...Ms. S is a fireplug and she knows it...God bless her perfect figure.

What is the point here? She is hot, sexy and 18. Saw her my.space ad....pleeeze. If she didn't want to grab this kind of unwanted national attention to herself...she would've shut down her my.space account...that simple. This is just a sick attempt to grab her 10 minutes of fame. Besides if I want to get my rocks off, go to the Spearmint Rhino in Industry.

Well the more you write and advertise it to others the more it spreads....she is 18 so I guess it is legal...under 18 and yes that is a problem...as it stands right now the magazines are in their legal right.

Hey Aram:

You did have a picture up earlier !!!!

This isn't about sex selling or my wanting for hits. If it were, I'd put a picture up. What it's about is something that, mark my words, will become a major issue in girls high school athletic. Do you really want to see high school sports have its own Anna Kournikova? That's what is starting to happen. I've always said that high school sports is a microcosm of the overall sports world and here's more proof. The sports world likes to turn some of its female athletes into sex pots and here is the start of it at the high school level. But beyond all this, some people think the girl and her father are bringing some of this on while saying they don't like it. THE GIRL WAS APPROACHED BY MAXIM FOR A PHOTO SHOOT!!!!

Aram,

go out and get a little you are starting to think with your other pencil.

Big Blue said:

She is ok looking...I expected more than that...dump this topic line and throw out a Kobe Bryant topic if you want hits...I know Sex sells but not here please...and we talk about protecting the HS student Athlete....bad choice for a topic of conversation...save that for the student athletes locker room.

JJimenez,

I liked your comment about my stomach on Fred's blog. I want you to take a look at the header on my blog's home page and let the "... and life" part marinate all night long in your head. There's your answer, hip-hop. We talk about everything here, not just SGV prep sports. So kick rocks if you no likey.

JJimenez said:

...and this deals with prep sports in the San Gabriel Valley how...???? Aren't you just adding fuel to the fire by trying to make this into a blog topic??
